You try and post certain words and it won't let you , yet it allows dick and fanny in the same sentence . Bizarre16 points

Apparently everything was ok this morning until one of the track staff knocked over his Sports Direct mug completely flooding the track. Did they consider burning some hay on the track to dry it out?8 points

Sounds like Rathbone should have been the one to negotiate with Poland over using their Extraleague riders. He was smart enough to get paid to release a rider, while years later the league has given up priority on Thursdays for re-arranged fixtures! He deserves a medal for his brilliance lol!7 points

They not on about that incident. There were many others. Not every thing is about poole riders you know. Go back to your champ section6 points

Miserable? I’ll say, makes Pete Adams look like a Court Jester. Don’t expect to see either of them down the pub if it’s Happy Hour.6 points

FWIW, my thoughts... Race on fixed nights so many of the riders can race for every team in both leagues as and when needed.. Let Poland dictate at short notice whether riders can race over here, and plan in meetings on Thursdays in the top league so Poland can use those riders when they rearrange fixtures, meaning plenty of guest opportunities.. Use the TV money to pay for superstars rather than use it to market the sport, or reduce admission prices, in fact, increase the cost of admission by at least a quid to help pay these riders.. Set a team strength level that will ensure all teams are equal and see those teams who the speedway fanbase suggest "have no bloody chance", pre season, struggle throughout the season, and possibly close down before the season ends, or, at least, need a sabbatical to regroup.. Build all rules and regs with enough ambiguity and subjectivity to ensure that they are open to manipulation, which will hopefully then deliver the required level of astonishment and disillusionment in even its most loyal fanbase.. Possibly, most importantly, each promotion work in splendid isolation, rather than as a collective for the generic betterment of the sport which supersedes any individual ambition, as it really is important that your team wins the league because the operating model means it delivers such high reward and publicity... I think this could work, a bit radical, but worth a go surely?5 points

I don't think the main presenter is very good at all - I am sure she is a lovely person but most of her presentation is just fluff. Her questions are schoolgirlish at best. Like you say Tatum is no journalist and his research is lacking big-time ... it all smacks of being done on the cheap. Which sums up British Speedway very nicely.5 points

Yep, he needs to do the hard yards. What bothers me about Tatum is that he just personifies what’s wrong with British speedway: stale, unimaginative, cliched and simply doing what’s always been done, regardless of outcome. And I have nothing against him as a person. It’s not his fault as he’s not a journalist or a lead commentator, but someone lets him do it. Nigel Pearson was an excellent journalist, broadcaster and commentator and Kelvin was his sideman. It was a good combination and worked well. Kelvin is not a lead commentator and I don’t see development since he was thrust into the role. Good journalists do their research and a lot of work behind the scenes, but there doesn’t seem to do much of that. He’s a former world class rider and even the cringe screwdriver in the track stuff brings no insight. It’s his job. It’s what he’s paid to do. We’d criticise the track curator or a rider if they weren’t doing a job and I am sorry to say I just don’t think the guy is a lead commentator. At a time when we are all craving British speedway to find its mojo and put on a great show, the TV production is probably the single biggest asset we have in promoting the sport to a new and particularly dormant audience. I don’t expect F1 levels of production. I think the main presenter is very good but I cannot believe this is the best we can do in terms of bringing the sport to life.4 points

Emil's backwheel goes into Adam's clutch hand so he has to let go of the handlebar, which flips up the number 1 on Emils bike cover, you can see it clearly on the head on replay just as Kelvin says the door was wide open.4 points

Just in case you were worried about your number one fan, as he has gone very quite. I’m pleased to let you know basso racing fan has appeared safe & well talking his brand of bollocks on the Sheffield Ipswich thread.4 points

Perhaps more accurate to say that all clubs have a minority of fans who do it?3 points

I don't know if you guys are deliberately trying to wind me up... this is perfectly simple. Scrap the rules as they are and implement a new rule to make it mandatory for a clock to be on the centre that we can all see and if a rider is not at the tapes and ready to start when the clock counts down to zero they are disqualified. It doesn't matter if the rider is off his bike break dancing while the 2 minutes are counting down, he can do whatever the hell he wants, but if he's not at the tapes ready to start when the clock hits zero... he's gone And it doesn't matter who physically starts the clock, the ref, the start marshal or even the bloody club mascot as long as it's the under direction of the ref3 points

Dick’s just desperate to join the “ forum fanny” Club.He can’t help it,it’s an age thing.3 points

Hence my question, don't need to be a "forum fanny" about it. Not being from the area I've no idea the Devonian climate!!!3 points

Yeah, it's called the weather. Mark Phillips most certainly tried really hard to get last Tuesday on, was battling the elements right up to about 6.45, when one final burst of rain during referee and skippers track inspection ended the hopes. Very unlucky.3 points

With this being a league match, Berwick will do OK, high 30s or even low 40s. Poole riders will be keeping an eye on their averages.3 points

Instead of people critising of buster why don't we as supporters get behind the club to save it.someone earlier told me it's 50/50 of the club surviving2 points

Well I have just watched the full replay - decent meeting I felt - presentation and commentary were better than in previous weeks - I feel Scott was paired well with Kelvin and it improved things - I think some of you just like complaining for complainings sake! one feature I really do like is the highlights from the other meeting segments. as for Hawkins - his arms folded is a defensive posture as he clearly isn’t comfortable being on camera. Not being a natural in front of the camera is hardly the worst crime for I suspect a voluntary position - and with some of the wallopers on here and their comments I can well understand it! If there was nothing to complain about some would complain! great meeting for Josh Pickering he has been good since joining. But - take a bow Emil - great riding the true master of Owlerton - nice to see warm congratulations between him and Musielak after their races!2 points

Not in the top 10: The top ten wettest counties in England are (in descending order): Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Northumberland, Durham, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, East Sussex, and Kent. Inclined to agree here - he was really off the pace against leicester the other week but last night he scored 2 important wins - heat 12 very critcal (home 5-1) as it basically negated any 1-5 they might have conceded in heat 13 with Dolye and Emil - as it was it didn't matter but I'd say that was the moment the match was won!2 points

As far as I am concerned I don't necessarily disgaree with you but all of this is somewhat subjective - some 'professional commentators' irritate me and some don't - I was always a big fan of people like Barry Davies who said a little as possible and let the action do the talking for them. I still feel tho that Tatum is floundering somewhat as he needs a lead commentator a professional like Nige and they havent either found him one or don't intend to, altho clearly he doesn't irritate me as much as some! The presenter Abi - is ok for me, we have had better in that role but we have also had worse. Nicholls does a decent job summarising and as the 'expert' analysis.2 points

But why are they not trained? Training and mentoring is available, and it's not as if this is their first year - that's why I am so unforgiving. It's a tough job, but it's a tough world. If someone's not good enough at something then they need to get better or get out. A lot like professional sport, it's a competitive world in media. I know, because I work in it, but the apathy and the lack of improvement from some of the talent is what really winds me up. It doesn't need to be that way. I understand ex-riders are not natural media professionals, but they've made that career change and need to get good at it. As riders they always aimed to get better but I really don't feel that they approach media work in the way they would have approached their racing careers and that offends me, as someone who works damned hard to be good at my job and to continuously develop at what I do.2 points

The side that was built would be in the play offs if all went to plan. The problem has clearly been not being proactive enough to correct two glaring problems, Riss and the rising star. Riss is a 6+ pointer let’s not forget, and can be a match winner on his day. Nobody could foresee the issues he has had this year. Again the problem has been not replacing him quick enough and it’s cost us as well as not going for better available options when Thomas was injured before the season even started.2 points

Given our last showing at the EWR, where we made Simon Lambert look like Bartosz Zmarzlik, I think Scunthorpe are the favourites. Especially as we will be weaker without Mulford.2 points

Glasgow haven't had a single league match on it so far. We had BSN semi's and final and that's been it far as I know. Only home match been Scunthorpe so think you're a little misguided there2 points

Is that not the man that too10k to let his rider miss a home meeting, and got banned? Genuine question.1 point

What worries me about Tatum is he seems to barely do any research before the meeting. When the riders come on he either says they're experienced or young and says their year has been going well. A main commentator is needed to be added and Tatum can be the analyst1 point

Obviously I was being facetious but I don't want that particular fact to be forgotten. With regard to modern 4-valvers, I don't think the number of valves per se is the issue. Weslakes and first generation Jawa 4-valves really didn't seem markedly different to the 2-valves (they sounded similar and track records were not being obliterated for instance) and still suited the tracks of the time. It's the evolution of them into the high revving laydowns that aren't suited to current tracks that sees us where we are now.1 point
