We have brought the situation on ourselves, year after year Promotions being allowed to do what they like regarding fixtures and rain off’s.Even at the stage now where our 2nd strings in Championships have fixure clashes here and abroad.Teams have an alternative race day they have to be told to re-arrange the fixture within a scheduled time frame or concede the match ,that would solve the fixture backlog. This seasons fixture list is just a total shambles.IMO.6 points

No different to when he rode for Sheffield etc. Busters vendetta is pathetic - time he grew up!4 points

It's always bad luck though to be honest, maybe the team just isn't very good to be honest.4 points

Hang on a minute, let’s not start taking the moral high ground about loyalty when UK sides are happy to slash riders from their line ups whenever they wish, move then on during the winter and frankly change riders at the drop of a hat when something better comes along. That’s no different to Woffinden, when he went off fully committed to Poland. Let’s not start pretending the UK teams are fully of loyalists.3 points

Absolutely. But if you have an extra meeting per week here, you might drop one other country where you ride. And if overall you ride in fewer places, it would help with scheduling a little.2 points
-
That might encourage them to make more effort to get the fixture on at times .There has alway been a few dodgy call offs because the riders know they will still get a pay night when it is rescheduled. No rescheduled match means no money.2 points

Looking back over the predictions thread and the vast majority had Berwick in the bottom two. Have to admit that i didn't see as many poor home defeats coming but it was an uninspiring team when built and not sure if the changes have added any strength at all.2 points

Depends on the 1st leg score, maybe??? If Poole win big, then the second leg might take months to arrange, if it's close then it might be arranged quicker LOL.....2 points

There has never been a rivalry with Poole in all my years following Glasgow. Don't know we’re you get this idea from ?.2 points

Just a bit of bad luck tonight to be honest, can’t fault any of the lads efforts to be honest. Really enjoyed the meeting after as-well, surely Owen Booth is knocking on the door of the bullets? He seems a great young rider!2 points

Just recieved my copy of the book...looks to be a fascinating read with not only speedway but the football team and memories of Roker Park and life generally in Sunderand.1 point

As fans of speedway we were all wanting and screaming for 2 home/2 away this season which would've been 32 league matches. But how in the world would we've have dealt with a single rain off???? Glasgow Vs Oxford was scheduled for the 6th May. Almost 2 months later and we still don't have a date........ The reason I have heard on the terraces is that riders riding in multiple foreign leagues for both teams can't fit in the proposed dates. Granted their would've been no BSN league but including the finals that's only 8 matches. Minus the league matches we have this year that leaves an extra 8 meetings to fit in. Surely the BSPL or whoever is in charge has to come out with a clear "must be rescheduled before dates" ruling or otherwise we'll end up with the same as last year where we have league meetings taking place after the playoffs1 point

King's Lynn can't maintain their position at the top table with their current support either. There's going to be a huge shift in British Speedway during the winter if Peterborough & Wolverhampton disappear anyway so none of us can call it right now, even the owners.1 point

Our Redcar rematch was a Tuesday, so it might make sense to do it again. Not sure which nights are better for the gate.1 point

Maybe if there were more fixtures in the league, riders wouldn't feel the need to ride in quite so many different places? That's part of the issue. You can't make a living on one meeting a week, and let's be honest, it's barely that over a season right now.1 point

Looking forward to this big clash in the BSN Final, don't come much bigger than this with our old rivals Glasgow. No matter who has done what in recent results when it comes to a final anything can happen although being on board the Pirate Ship I think we can edge out a 12 point lead to take up to Scotland for the 2nd leg whenever that may be. Yes, any news on a 2nd leg date would be most welcome. Got about 16 weeks to fit it in!1 point

While I appreciate your acknowledgment of Poole's strength, Shaleshifter is simply paying respect to the opposition!1 point
-
From being there a couple of times and watching a fair few on tv, passes all night will likely be absent after the second bend. If we dont trap we dont stand a chance.1 point
-
Wow , you are really trying to make this a “tough match “ the reality is POOLE are too strong , it will be a high scoring home match again with only harris trying to make a couple of passes all night .1 point

It's always bad luck for the Bullets and Bandits actually thought the meeting was very boring.1 point

It's refering to foreign riders on assessed averages not being able to drop below 4.00. The second part confuses me though, what does that mean? Surely nearly every new commonwealth rider hasn't achieved an MA in a professional league?1 point

Tai is doing a DJ set at a festival in Poland this weekend, and good luck to him. He may never be World Champion again, but he'd still be a quality 8 pointer in British Speedway at the moment. Having said that, with the possible merging of leagues he might have to come in as a 12 pointer instead!1 point

Meeting of the British Speedway season - will be hard to top. Close meeting, superb racing and it came down to a Superheat. British Speedway bosses are often criticised, but this is a great innovation - and gives fans an extra exciting race for their money. Who would complain about that?1 point
-
A fantastic meeting - well done to Scunthorpe for producing such a brilliant race track. However...as an Oxford fan, I should be pleased with the outcome after the 'superheat'. But I just can't get used to the stupidity of the idea. For one thing, what's wrong with a draw? It would have been a fair result. But to have another heat - where the object of the 'race' is not to win, but to avoid coming last - is just absurd.1 point

Thank you both for your kind comments. '50 Days of Speedway, Sunderland in 1964' by Keith Corns and Georgia Smithson is available from various outlets in Sunderland, or via Speedway PMB (https://speedway-pmb.webador.co.uk/)1 point

Totally agree old bob. More tracks need to invest the time and expertise in preparing a good track from the orf. Plenty of dirt, soaked in moisture and well packed. Far too often the meeting is nearly over before any worthwhile racing is seen.1 point

Because most of the tractor drivers are arrogant people who dont give a flying fig about the paying public and jsut enjoy their own little bit of glory driving thier tractors round and round and round. In the days when there was dirt on the tracks , one lap after each was deemed sufficient. Nowadays lap after lap polishing the turd every 4 heats (sometimes less) ifs somehow required. Fits in withe DELAY culture now prevalent in 21st century speedway.1 point

You're very welcome. I am a nerd. I'm happy to own up to that well known fact. But my interest is during the meeting itself rather than preserving some sort of historic record. I like to get some view of a winning race time to assess later clashes in the meeting. It adds to my enjoyment but I don't expect everyone (anyone?) to share my view. This extends to other features such as gate stats. Last night's meeting was a particular case in point. The race wins and points scored from each gate is of interest to me and last night this played a significant part in the latter heats. Given that teams were permitted to swap gates between their allotted gates, and two gates were statistically were advantageous (3&4) both the pair of gate chosen and who started in which was of some importance. If you're really interested I can tell you who started in which gate in all races. And there speaks a proud nerd! P.S. it's "dawn", the time of day, not "Dawn", the girl's name. Sorry, I'm a pedant as well1 point
