  1. Begs the question why should fans bother to turn up if their team’s riders cannot be arsed?

  3. What a load of crap people write on here Zmarzlik is the best around and maybe the competition isn’t the best but he is still a class act and would have won titles in any era Got to laugh at people saying Doyle and Lindgren are past it lol … 2nd and 3rd in the world but last it lol… And those saying Tai shouldn’t get a wildcard lol…. The guy is 9th in the world so please go ahead and find 7 riders who should be in above him …. Only Emil and Laguta but nobody else….do people expect all 15 riders to be capable of winning a world title lol…… back in the days of the one off there was always only ever 6 or 7 riders you thought could win it … the night of a GP is no different…… I wouldn’t expect the likes of Michelsen Thomson and Nilsson to win a GP but they could and in Thomsens case already have ….. in the one off none of the eastern block could win it and in my first one in 1990 you also had riders like Miller Dugard Correy who you wouldn’t have given a chance to. So yes Tai isn’t a rostrum challenger but find 15 riders better than him you won’t …..

  4. Was looking at a post on the "general chat" but I only float around the championship and premier pages and feel a lot of knowledgeable people do too. So if after reading the rulebook and seeing what elegible meetings affect the riders averages and what meetings don't it seems madness to me that this season a rider could compete in up to 20 meetings that don't count and only 16 meetings that do. BSN league. 4 league matches 2 semis and 2 finals KOC 2 Quarter, 2 semis 2 finals Playoffs 4 matches and 2 for finals And the ones that count. 8 home and away league matches?? Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this is crazy.

  5. Zmarzlik is no doubt the best rider by far and can only beat whats put in front of him but i feel hes come along at the right time. The likes of Woffinden, Doyle, Lindgren, are on the slide and are not the riders they were, the upcoming younger riders are nowhere near yet the likes of Bewley, Lambert, Holder, Magic and Dudek arent good enough to challenge so Bartoz is having a bit of a free run at the moment the two that could challenge are suspended in Emil and Artem, Far cry from the days of Crump, Rickardson, Adams, Gollob, Pedersen etc banging elbows. A poor meeting and we seem to be saying that more often than not when it comes to the GP,s.

  6. I don’t think that’s the case. A winning team is great, but Workington’s return certainly won’t count for nothing if they don’t make the playoffs. What they’ve done has been amazing. Just look at Oxford last year, it wasn’t a winning team and it was a huge success….and they built on that for this season.

  7. Yeah. I was a die-hard Dons fan, but I would drive all over the country to watch speedway at different tracks. Results didn't matter to me; I just went to watch the racing...

  8. good meeting against Oxford on Saturday .the crowd was really good , since the two stands had been put in , it takes the pressure off fans having to huddle up to the fence to get a good view .its a great wee track and i think a lot of locals are just happy to see speedway back in Cumberland ! Oxrord werethe better team on the day and deserved the points . thanks to ALL that put the effort/time in to bring back the sport @northsidespeedway

  9. Hugely impressed with the set up at Northside! Good racetrack, spacious pits and excellent viewing for spectators. Very impressive performance from the Chargers - for me, the man of the match was Jody Scott who combined for two 5-1s in the opening three races - including beating Connor Bailey in Heat 1 - to put Chargers in firm control. Had a chat with former Oxford skipper Craig Branney after the meeting. He led Oxford Academy to the Conference League in 2005. Craig was impressed by the last to first by Henry Atkins around the outside on the opening two laps in Heat 13. He said that he knew such a move was possible, but it was the first time a rider had stuck to the outside to roar around all three other riders in that manner. Top performances from Ryan Kinsley and Jacob Clouting too - even when put 15 metres behind for tape touching, Jacob battled to a point. He looks like a trump card now that he's at reserve for Chargers. Sam Woods did what he always does - put in 100% effort each race and he fully deserved his 3+1 tally. Alfie Bowtell's exclusion post-race in Heat 11 (which cost him a paid maximum) didn't seem quite right. While the rulebook does state that riders must wear a race-jacket, shirt or suit displaying their racing number, it doesn’t clarify whether this is an excludable offence. There have been other incidents of riders competing without an appropriate race-jacket – some very recently (e.g. Ryan Douglas guesting for King's Lynn) – but they haven’t resulted in an exclusion. Ultimately it didn't make any difference, but it's one of this cases where there needs to be both consistency and common sense applied.

  10. Looks like Harris being on standby means he can ride for both teams

  11. There comes a point where you either run it at a profit, or at least breakeven or not at all, no one unless they are a multi millionaire etc is going to continually write off losses year after year - I remember many a promoter rolling up in a blaze of glory saying how they were/ are going to turn their club into a powerhouse and win the league - they all fade away into obscurity before too long. I can also imagine you have a 'life expectancy' in running something like speedway - to be fair to Buster he has been in the game quite a while now. This is a key line - yes we do but also we have to sometimes accept that maybe we can't - my football team is a small town one (well city now) and they are never going to get into the premier league so I have to make do with lower league and right now Conference league stuff. I don't particularly like it but as a realist i understand thats where we are at the moment. We had some good times in the Championship but it has pretty much bankrupted us - look at Portsmouth - their 'winning' team almost saw them go out of business and the football league. I think part of the issue is us fans sometimes have no sense of realism in their expectations sometimes and then the moment the side loses a game / match or two people are demanding changes often for changes sake! If a manager in football loses the first 3-4 games in a season they are often out the door before the end of October. And of course as fans we have a lot of "I Told you so" experts out there!

  12. The Chargers fully justified why I believe they are arguably the strongest team in the NDL. The solid team performance required from the Comets sadly didn't materialise, this was compounded by falls and mechanical failures which effectively contributed to 11 last places. Comets 12 points down after 5 heats and 14 down after 9 were never able to generate enough momentum to seriously look like overturning the deficit though we did manage to reduce it to 8 points after heat 11 following the bizarre disqualification of Alfie Bowtell for not wearing his race jacket, first time I've ever witnessed this one. Top performer for the Comets was Ace Piper with 12 from 5 and the young man is coming along nicely. Sam had a big off on turn 3 so it was good to see him walk back to the pits after being released from under the air fence. The Chargers were generally solid throughout, conversely none of their riders had a fall or a mechanical failure . The 3 heat leaders scored good points and were ably supported by Jacob Clouting and Jody Scott . The racing was generally entertaining with the Comets beaten by the better team on the day. Hope the supporters who made the journey from Oxford enjoyed their visit and had a safe journey home.

  13. Buster has turned into Brian havelock when he was at Redcar. Producing teams which once announced you kinda knew the season was over before it began. However he ran at a profit albeit a small one. majority of fans dissatisfied and crowds dropped. in came new promotions who spent a bit more and sensibly and grew their business slowly and successfully. I guess whoever you support you just want your team to be competitive. Someone has to come last but you don’t want to go into the season in march knowing you have no hope. Buster has had enough and it shows. And he has more than done his bit.

  23. It is still £10k to find from your home crowd income though... If he rides away you pay him £5k from no income... If he only rides at home you can probably afford to keep him.. Anyhow... Get well soon Artem....

  26. I only mentioned Budapest because I fancy going there for a weekend break and having a GP there would double the excitement! Seriously though, I am just toying with new ideas because something needs to be done. Volleyball at the North Pole could be fun??

  27. Or look at new venues in major cities. Probably been discussed previously and would be expensive but would create alot of interest and publicity. Berlin, Munich, Budapest, London, Amsterdam etc. How many more people would travel to see a GP in Berlin compared to Teterow??

  28. I understand it for bonus point or in a cup/ play off match. But as you say why can't it just be a draw in the league

  30. Over the last few years the GP Series has got more and more boring. You watch a pretty boring meeting but then have the mindset that the next one will be better so you tune in again and hey presto, it's another boring one. Overall, not much excitement and very little real controversy. Riders too pally with each other, no real characters and the whole thing has become rather stale. No one to challenge the current champ (not his fault) and the emphasis quickly shifts to who is going to qualify for next year as opposed to who is going to be world champion. To liven things up why don't they have a wild card track every year, each participating country could nominate two tracks so the UK for instance could name Wolverhampton and Redcar. A draw is then made live on TV and a meeting is held at that particular venue. Just an idea of course but the series needs major surgery.

  31. Heats 12 was Tom and Ace against Simon and Nathan, both of whom had been beaten by the aforementioned riders. Heat 13 and 15 would've been another potential heat advantage with Bomber and Basso Leaving heat 14 with RR (think Simon had a ride to spare) and Nathan Ablitt again for Connor. So leaving with a ten point deficit to overturn would be somewhat easier than a 14/16 point to get that extra aggregate point.

  34. No money because Chapman (the promoter and owner, the person who has all the financial responsibility) refuses to spend any more on Panthers than he has done already, even though he doesn't have to pay any Pedersen type money out

  35. He was unfortunate to be dropped by Scunny, but they were honest & explained the situation, so I wouldn't say he was "treated badly" as for Ipswich he was scoring terribly (as I expected) so can't have been surprised to be replaced. Ideally riders should be second strings in the Champ before moving up into the Premiership.

  38. His signature move... If the riders move over and allow it, then fair play to him for keeping doing it... Edit A few weeks ago I watched Nicki P change his line and rode about four yards from the kerb down the straight when Bartek was doing his usual "nail them on the apex"... On this occasion Bartek had to bail out or hit Nicki's back wheel as he cut across him... Nicki obviously watches him race, maybe one or two of the GP lads could do the same,, ...

  39. I don't know about Madsen laughing on the podium I reckon after the final he should have nutted Zmarzlik. Well maybe not nutted but certainly had a go at him. By laughing with him Zmarzlik will just think il do that again next time

  40. Supporters who have seen clubs close because promoter ran out of money will have no problems in Keith Chapman running the Stars to budget. Having said that, I hope he keeps Laguta. If you want an example, look at Eastbourne where the Arlington. Stadium is now just for cars with the bikes banished. Ask an Eastbourne fan if they would prefer ‘on budget’ speedway or no speedway.

  41. Just looking at the fixture lists and seeing most teams have periods of inactivity for several weeks I can't but wonder how the ruling bodies can get it so wrong. Come the business and rainy end what's the chances teams are going to be struggling for dates yet again? Total mismanagement and financially clubs much be taking considerable hits. IMO we must go to a single league and ensure fans get weekly racing or fans will find other (cheaper) forms of entertainment. Changes are needed now

  45. I have absolutely no problem with budget speedway but teams need to be competitive, if he isn’t willing to run teams up to the required level in the Premier League then run them in the Championship where the costs are a lot lower Teams need to be at the very least competitive, that way you ensure good support and confidence levels ensuring everyone, riders, supporters and management remain positive. Getting stuffed everywhere just drives supporters away like it has at Lynn, tomorrows attendance will be interesting as it’s on TV so the usual travelling supporters will be able to watch it on Eurosport.

  47. They used to count, but certain clubs used the premier trophy or whatever it's called to blood assessed riders to get new averages and strengthen once the league started. Now that assessed riders can't go below a 4 no sure it's still required tbh especially with so few league meetings now

  48. Fair play to Doyle and Freddie.. Old heads... But they ride each race like "winning is everything".. And take risks that others simply wont take... Bartek is undoubtedly the most talented rider, but he is also one of the most brave and committed too.. Several of the other "talents" should reflect on how they do the "hard part of the job" if they ever want to compete with him...
