With all due respect you are clueless. Mr Chapman isn't particularly my cup of tea and I fully understand why you and others dislike him, however he essentially saved the club in 1992, 1996, 2003 and again in 2023. The club could have been long extinct but for him.9 points

Its the main attraction, and one of the reasons I go. And I don't have a car.8 points

If it hadn't been for Buster saving the club back in the 90's, we might not have had speedway in Norfolk since that time. So we've got a lot to thank him for.5 points

I’ve heard a rumour that Kings Lynn might get a mention anytime soon , bearing in mind it’s a Kings Lynn 2023 thread.5 points

Also, I would have paid £22 to watch Sayfutdinov ride round on his own. Probably one of the best performances from a visiting rider in my 49 years of watching speedway and the first time he has ever seen the track. Absolute genius.3 points

4 quality riders + 1 rubbish track = borefest Gate 2 is absolutely dogwank3 points

I'm not really sure of the origin of the word speedway and how it came to be applied to the sport. This is as far as I can trace it. Inventor and entrepreneur, A J Hunting, opened the concrete Marouba Speedway track somewhere round about 1924/5. Before that, a series of small oval track meetings had been held at West Maitland and various other locations. Although they were actually grass tracks, the grass got so worn away that the riders were effectively riding on dirt. Because this made the racing more spectacular, A J Hunting began to create first class dirt tracks from the off, i.e., not relying on the grass being worn away. His first was in Brisbane and it was this track that was really the first specially created dirt track. Others soon followed suit, for example Johnnie Hoskins created Sydney Royal Speedway. Hunting then set up his organisation, International Speedways Limited to bring speedway to this country and founded the Speedway News, the first edition of which came out on 19 May, 1928. That quote from TwoMinuteWarning that iris reproduced above is not quite accurate as the term speedway is used in that very first Speedway News to denote the racing and not just the stadium or track. For example, there is a large advert on Page 12 for the Gold Helmet which says that "the Gold Helmet is the blue riband of speedway racing....", though, it has to be said that both terms, speedway and dirt track racing, are used throughout. Enquiries are ongoing!3 points

Saw this on the Ipswich thread. If Erik still has blurred vision should he really be riding? You wouldn't be allowed to drive on the road like that.3 points

oh you mean the announcement before Buster vetoed Tomalin's plans? Yes? If I was supposed to be charge of team funding this year and Buster wrecked my plans, then I would definitely cut my financial investment way back just like he has done3 points

The demise started long before Sky came on board. The top flight has been in trouble since the mid/late 80s. Sky was the golden egg that should have sparked a new dawn but was completely mis managed by the powers that be. The demise has accelerated over the last 20 years but can be traced way back to the 80s3 points
-
Absolutely this. The demise I'd exactly pinpoint to when SkySports came on board. No blame at all is to be put on them by the way, it was the promoters just totally mismanaged the whole thing, over paying rider's, not securing their own stadia etc. Zero future planning went in to the sport to which it really should have hit it's peak. Current 80's standard stadia conditions, mismanagement etc the sport remains as a £10-£15 sport but due to economics the price has to be higher. British Speedway is now in a rock n' a hard place in balancing VFM & unfortunately, it's no longer in the favour of the fan.3 points

The absurdity is that it doesn't exist in the Championship, the place where if could be of most benefit.3 points

Then it'll be your loss because some of the NDL stuff has been superb so far this season. After a bad start (and it was a really bad start), I thought the meeting improved. I saw quite a few overtakes, so not sure what you were watching. Admittedly it was often because a lesser rider got out in front of a heat leader, but it there was never going to be any overtakes the other way around was there. Plus there was plenty of close racing. I can see why the delay at the start was frustrating, but they apologised often enough about it. Mistakes happen. Most of the people I spoke to were happy to forgive and forget, and just enjoy the evening. After all the meeting still finished by 9.45pm, so was only 20mins ish later than usual. It's certainly the only time I've known it happen at Oxford, so give them another chance.3 points

After opening our home league campaign with a comfortable win over the hapless Brummies , its the turn of the other diddy team to get battered this week . After pumping them in their own midden last week , its important we show them no mercy at the cauldron of speed tomorrow night and build up the points difference . We should be as we were last Friday , but who knows who will turn out for them . Will Pickering be fit ? Will Cook get permission from Nurse Ratchet to ride ? Or will it be two guests again ? With only Birmingham , Oxford and Berwick not in action choices are limited . If it is two guests my guess would be Schlein and Kerr , but who knows . With another scorchio week up here in Hotland, the track staff will have their work cut out to live up to.their impeccable standards.2 points

It wasn't the most exciting of meetings in terms of racing for sure, but it retained some interest in the scoring and seeing if Sheffield could build up a big enough lead for them to hold off the Witches big guns in heats 13 and 15. I don't think Sheffield's track is as suited to modern day speedway as it was in the past, especially at this level with riders being so fast and not making as many errors and 10 of the 15 heats tonight were won by riders who are world class and rarely get passed. Another issue must be the long dry spell which has made track preparation everywhere quite difficult, especially when it's been as hot as it has. The racing has been ok at Owlerton this year. Not brilliant, but entertaining enough. Any sporting occasion can be boring. It's the nature of sport. But it's not quite as boring as some of the f**kwits who seem to make up a large proportion of the posters on this site that can't wait to decry speedway at every opportunity.2 points

Cheers mate, great time. Not back until Tuesday so that means we’ll win on Monday as well. Back to usual once I return2 points

Good meeting that, glad I came over. The power of a true match winning #1 making the difference (yes I’m looking at you Peterborough)2 points

Berwick, Oxford and Birmingham the only teams not riding. Rory injured. So leaves us with the choices of Sedgmen, Nicholls and Kerr as the only option. But do I expect anything from a bitter man with a camera not really.2 points

Maybe Glasgow should send the Edinburgh promotion an invoice based on the loss of away fan income because they are fielding an under strength team2 points

I am amazed at his honesty.! If you can't see properly, how can you race a 60mph bike with no brakes? If there is an unfortunate incident whilst he is racing, surely he would be potentially liable?...seems that risk needs to be taken out of Erik's hands!2 points

Upto the club who they put where. Parker is a sacrificial lamb in this scenario and he knows it, very much in at the deep end but he will give it a go. Lyden coming back from ‘injury’ might be suspect but Booth is not ready for NDL either so be interesting as to who stops on and picks up some points. Championship riders up against second halfers/ amateurs , not a good idea but what choice is there ?2 points

Shouldnt be allowed anywhere near a speedway bike if thats the case. hope he gets sorted though2 points

personally I find Erik's description of his symptoms and situation very disturbing. He's confessing to racing with blurred vision! Then thinking about whether to do it again. At what point, should he have to pass some sort of fitness test, before riding again. Not sure I'd want to be one of the other three lining up along side him when he admits his vision is blurred!2 points

As Boughen was actually at the track, and apparently did the track walk before throwing his toys and leaving, I'm guessing the SCB are making the point that they think the club should have done more to control the rider, and talk sense in to him, to stop him leaving. I wasn't there and I have no idea which members of the Leicester management were there, and how much effort they made to stop the rider leaving, but I know the referee was very involoved and the fine will have been based on whatever he put in his report.2 points

So you think Alex Brady left King's Lynn because of Keith Chapman? Like I said you are clueless.2 points
-
Good point really - Poole are probably stronger this time around with Rowe back and been riding well. Edwards has found it difficult at 4 but Bailey and Mulford have improved recently and will need to contribute against their opposite numbers.2 points

What a shambles but no surprise as Chapman couldn’t run a drinks party in a brewery! I feel sorry for loyal Star fans who deserve better than this incompetent clown. He was useless at the BSPA together with the equally stupid Mr Godfrey and clearly at KL and Pboro…what a depressing state of affairs these clubs are now in, all down to Chapmans disastrous mismanagement. The sooner Chapman gets out of speedway the better.2 points

He will have given his 1-7 already, so there should be no "secrecy".2 points

I was one of the few that wanted Batch back. He was averaging more than King and Riss for most of the season, but a poor end to the year made his average look like he didn’t have a good season because of the way the averages are calculated. For me he was on a good average to return. Hopefully he gets fixed up soon in the Championship and then possibly the Premiership before the cut off…2 points

Spot on The rising star scheme principle is great but should be at Championship level first If used in the Premiership it should be for Championship second string level2 points

Poole favourites again for me, a team of 5 ex Bears and the other 2 members of the team are the Cook brothers who both love the track. Big winners on their last 3 visits so won’t be short on confidence. Meeting will be decided by the second strings and reserves, Pooles bottom 3 (r/r for Rowe last time) heavily outscored the Bears bottom 4 and if that happens again it will be a similar result. Bears were outgated last time around too and need to give themselves a chance this time. Having Riss back should help and hopefully a good meeting for BSN. Oh and it’s Teesside btw ( there is no River Tee - I’d insert a winky emoji but my phone won’t let me)2 points

It is very rare for a rider to peak at 19, unless they completely lose interest in the sport. I think it more likely they will continue to mature, adjust to being independent adults seperate of each other and their father and return to an upward trajectory.2 points

I think it's harsh to judge Dan on this season, didn't have a Champ spot till now, which would be the correct level to judge his improvement in. Also did a decent job for Leicester as their RS, posting a better first season average than the likes of Jenkins, Plain, Edwards & Thomas did!2 points

Roy Clarke not a bad track presenter is he! Have only seen him do the Redcar SM bits when interviewing their riders. I heard the joke about putting subtitles up! lol. Laguta!!! Soooo good! We can keep him for Friday's team at Redcar right? Plleeaaassseeee! Best I have seen Tom Brennan ride Poole, so that looks good for Glasgow @Jaizer Enjoyed it a lot. You never know how testimonial meetings are going to go, but this one was really good I thought!2 points

Rob Lyon I believe. Alex has stepped down from his duties at Lynn for personal reasons. Nothing to do with the club, money, riders or Buster, it’s totally personal thing that has to come first.Alex was financing the teams wages this season, but Buster has stepped back in to keep us going.1 point
