i remember back in the 70's when i was just a lad sitting in the office with the lovely Mrs Taylor rain bouncing off the pavements and the good old fashioned phone ringing with people asking is the meeting on. Yes was the reply and around 6pm the fire brigade would arrive and pump the water off the track. Riders would hoy a boiler suit on top of their leathers and we would have ourselves a meeting. In the words of Mary Hopkins, Those were the days my friend.3 points

That's odd because it's nice and dry in Scotland atm. You know you're getting old when you find yourself mumbling "I remember when riders rode through sleet and snow!". Club owners will one day have to come up with some sort of solution to keeping the track dry up until tapes-up. Large sewn-together track-shaped cut tarpauling (four individual segments?) draped across the track from over the top of the air fences and weighted down on the centre green perhaps? They have to do something soon otherwise these milder summers with more rain are ultimately going to kill this sport.3 points

Just pointing out facts. Maybe the best thing to do would be start the season later and finish it earlier? With the amount of fixtures, should be pretty easy to do.2 points

Massive thanks to the Poole management. Get to watch the mighty Robins twice in a few weeks now.2 points

Back in the day, you would get four or five of the team returning the following year. Look at Wimbledon. Trevor Hedge, Reg Luckhurst, Bob Dugard, and Jim Tebby were there from 1965 to 1970 (six years, they formed the basis of the team), and Olle Nygren was with them for the first four of those years...2 points

Regardless of whether (no pun intended) the decision was correct (and I'm sure it was) we have to lament the loss of a really mouth watering opening match. I was looking forward to Dan Thompson beating Emil, preferably from the back. Well he did it to Jason Crump, 3 times world champ, and Emil hasn't won one (yet).1 point

I see that young lad Cooper Rushen was in the team photo with King's Lynn kevlars on.Is he a future Star maybe? He looked a great prospect having watched him at the Ben fund in the 250cc races.1 point

You can bet if next year starts at the end of April we'll have a dry March & first half of April, then a very wet spell as soon as the speedway starts!1 point

Hardest sport in the world to pick the winner as injuries plays a massive part of all sides final position in the League . Here’s hoping that all leagues are a success and crowds rise as spectators are needed to keep British Speedway going . The winning team will have the least injuries and have an astute team manager who will make changes to the starting 7 riders at times when there averages allow them too . Hope attendance’s hold up and support your side as it’s a sport with dwindling audience numbers , good luck to every rider involved and keep speedway alive in the UK1 point

What is probably more damaging to the club, rather than a comment on an obscure forum, is there being no Speedway on the opening night of the season when the weather is fine after all the build up, returning to the top league, a spot on local TV and radio and the visit of a former World Champion and the returning Russian. Instead the season opens with a junior match. Still, you can't do much about the weather without some kind of track cover system.1 point

Well I can confirm it was not the drainage that caused Thursday call off, the damage had already been done, I am not sure if people realise how much rain we have had, we have emptied the drains 3 times since last weekend, each drain hold approximately 5 thousand ltrs, we have 8 main drains, they were full each time.1 point

I'd agree Steve but was the list based upon a maximum points limit?1 point

It's OK saying it's "dry in Scotland atm," but first, where in Scotland? Secondly, it doesn't really matter what the weather is like now, if the damage has already been done. As far as covers are concerned, you need volunteers to put them down and take them back up again. Not always possible. Some tracks may not be allowed to put covers down, owing to their landlords not giving permission. Berwick have/had covers, so maybe someone can tell us why they were not used in this instance?1 point

There is a couple of French men doing well with their season underway. Possible Danes, Swedes or Aussies on a 4 or U24 Poles willing to do a short term deal for racing experience.1 point

Not sure how I feel about new race suits. Better than last year but wish we'd go back to the traditional tiger not the cartoon1 point

How about this one. I was scheduled to ride in a (sidecar) speedway meeting at Mildura in 2007 (you know, north-west Victoria, Australia, where Leigh Adams came from). And that was rained out (Oz for rained off). You won't (can't, actually) travel further than that from my then Coventry base for a rain off!1 point

I'm mindful of what happened to Sam at Belle Vue in 2021 (?). Massive scores at reserve & moves up to number one, where he then struggled badly. Riding at 7 I feel Luke could potentially do the same thing. The tougher rides as number 6 gets could avoid that & let him reach the top of the team on merit (not this season probably) rather than statistically. For example finishing 2nd in 3-3s ahead of your partner only beating a novice reserve - means a you get an 8.00 ave!1 point

Wasn't there talk they lost their last few meetings comfortably and team average went down 1 or 2 points?1 point

Definitely Complin who cleared the fence and landed on the terracing on the 4th bend. Also recall another rider doing the same it was in the home straight, it may have been Kieszak.1 point

Don't see the issue with practicing on your home track whenever you fancy personally. Even on the day of a meeting.1 point
