  2. Why did you pay £14.99 when you criticised the line up ages ago??. That was before KK had to pull out !! Again your the only one complaining.. I think they did well to get the meeting on. Making plenty of money to go towards helping injured riders.... Maybe speedway isn't for you.

  3. Dr Peter Kenyon was a true gentleman & always a fan of speedway. I have known of him for many years & know that many involved within speedway are very greatful for the services of the good Doctor. I know Tony Briggs speaks very highly of him & that the care he received from Dr Kenyon after his serious neck injury saved him from life changing injuries. Thank you for all the help care & advise you have passed on in your time you will be fondly missed , may you rest in peace

  4. Normal service resumed for Doyley. Dropping the one point to Lindgren in the heats before gaining his revenge when it mattered in the final Still the man to beat in this league.

  7. Basso has had some racing. Albeit a challenge match but he looked quick. Worrall looked mega last night at Ben fund, Andersen will be the big worry. Danny king and Erik Riss looked mega fast at Redcar the other night as well. Going to be a close one but I can also see Ipswich just taking this one, I think jenkins and cook will have the better of hume and thompson though which is a positive

  8. For me Peo Soderman was the first Swede I ever saw ride for my team in the '50s I think, and overnight when he came to ride for Brandon he became my favourite rider, basically because he was different, and a superb rider and nice guy as well. For some reason the various foreign riders who came to ride for the Bees seemed to hold a magical charisma, no disrespect meant to others. But by seeing and meeting these guys I realised that there really is another big bright world out there. Perhaps that was the spark that eventually set me on the way to travelling the world and my fascination with other countries and cultures. Henryk Zyto although not Swedish really sparked my interest in other countries. I thought he was a magician from behind the iron curtain. I suppose in a way in the '60s Gote Nordin replaced Peo for his absolute classy style and consistency. And then of course the great man himself, no it's not Norbold, but Ove was just pure strength and speed, and I clearly remember standing in the pits at Long Eaton one night watching his great calmness throughout a meeting and knowing that I was, I suppose in the presence of greatness in our sport.

  9. I have to disagree with you about it being a crap meeting, there was some excellent racing at times, and I thought Danny King was a deserved winner. The junior racing was also very good considering their ages, and Neil Vatcher must be congratulated for the effort he puts into this level of racing. The Veterans was obviously just a nostalgia thing, but part of history of our sport. I do agree with you about the endless displays between heats, they were far to long. I wish Dick Barrie hadn't kept speaking on the centre concrete for so long at a time, thus making it a rush for Kevin Moore to read out the results and times. Just one thing mate, when giving the times, can you keep your voice raised please, as many of us around where I was, and you know where, just couldn't catch them. Just a request please, thanks buddy. I disagree with FinalBendThree, I was bloody frozen in the latter stages of the meeting. But hey ho, whatever our differing thoughts, the season is underway, and I hope bags of money was made. Have a good year, whoever you support.

  10. Really enjoyed that, some good racing as there often is when Lynn is much slicker than normal. Freddie was great value as he gated last in most of his heats. King a deserved winner. One or two good prospects in the youth races too. And not cold

  11. Understandable first heat nerves probably after his first competitive heat for 18 months, but then quickly back on it and finishing second after beating Zmarzlik in a run off. Promising. Edit: Good to see Jarek still on the gas!

  19. Who remembers Brenton Barnfield? I came across his name (while looking for something else) in the 2012 team announcement pages & couldn't remember his riding for Berwick!

  22. That is just completely untrue. If you think it's true, I repeat my challenge for you to name all these riders aged 15+ who could ride in an MDL league aiming to put themselves in the shop window for an NDL place. It's not the case that the rider pool has dried up because there are no MDL teams. The reality is that there are no MDL teams because the rider pool dried up and the people running them couldn't get enough riders to staff them. The British Youth System does a good job with what it has, but there are very few riders even in the youth system, and many of them are several years away from turning 15.

  23. Interesting article in the Speedway Star and interview with Martin Dugard. Who has no part of the ownership and was even removed from the stadium by Eric Dugard (owner). "I know there are applications for planning going on ... If there is one less sport in the stadium; it means there is more chance they will allow planning there. But I am not privvy to what is going on." He talked about the fractious relationship he and Jon Cook had as tenants at Arlington in a podcast - may of been My life in Speedway well worth a listen. Worrying as there was article on various closed tracks recently and a map in with the remaining tracks - considering you can eliminate Peterborough, Edinburgh from that map shortly it doesn't bode well as team sport in the current climate , despite the success of Oxford , Workington to get tracks back running.

  25. I'm not sure being called Victor Meldrew or a 'clown' is particularly abusive, in fact the worst word on the entire thread is 'crap', and you used that yourself. Would be nice if you could acually have a discussion rather than slagging something off (as you normally do) and then disappearing when people disagree. Other than the delays which to be honest I didn't really notice as I was chatting to lots of people I hadn't seen for months, why did you think it was 'crap'? There was passing and close racing from the first heat to the last on a good surface between a well matched field and it raised money for a good cause. As somebody has said perhaps speedway is no longer for you.

  31. Everyone must understand that a lot of old timers, like my Dad supported teams now long gone. But they still have an affinity to them and although never happening these teams will not return. So any of the so called Ghost teams who they loved, were appearing in these leagues they would sponsor them and support them financially. Is a trick being missed here?

  32. Yes there are already adverts on Eurosport and BT Sport (same company now) saying Speedway GP and British Speedway on Eurosport. BT Sport will change its name to TNT Sports in July and Eurosport expected to change in 2024.

  36. The hardest of the 3 leagues to make a prediction, Some of the riders have been in this league a while & have maybe found their level whilst others are just begining their career & are largely unknown. Then of course to fresh new 15 year old starlet that pops up mid-season & the unfortunate injury that often happens. BELLE VUE - Strong top end with the reliable Jack Smith securing double figures almost every meeting at NDL joined by James Pearson who may gain some confidence at this level & the ever improving Sam Hagon. But I think the Colts will find it tough this season. BERWICK - I have to be honest in saying there is not much that inspires me with this seven I just hope they enjoy their racing & stay healthy. EDINBURGH - Adam Roynon is possibly the leagues top trapper & with the CL experience of Bickley & Hook should do well enough & may well be in the dogfight at the end of the season. KENT - As with Jack Smith at Belle Vue Ben Morley has a wealth of experience to call upon & with Nathan Ablitt as his number 2 they will not loose many of the big races but it's a long tail to wag. LEICESTER - A big season is always expected for the Cubs & many would feel this should be the last season for the Thompson twins in NDL. Boughon making an average towards the end of the season may hamper the 15 year old as he will start in the top 5. MILDENHALL - A top 4 that I think can achieve great results if things go their way, Bowtell can top the averages whilst Complin is superb at this level, trigger should again up his average & the returning Kiwi Congreve may find life easier at this level. OXFORD - The Chargers track much the same team as last year with Fellows coming in at the bottom. Killeen must establish himself this turn as his long fight for a passport then injury scuppered his chances . It could be a big year at Cowley. WORKINGTON - Home track advantage will be a big factor for the Cumbrians. Pijper will be the lynch pin as they move forward & I'm sure Bailey can sharpen up his gating at this standard. Top 3. Oxford, Workington, Mildenhall
