Thoroughly enjoyed my trip down to Redcar last night against a good Diamonds team. If we had had something like that team in the last couple of years we would still be running, instead of being butchered. Thanks go the Redcar promotion for the agreement to hold this meeting, which benefited both clubs supporters. Thanks to all the ex Diamonds sponsors and the Diamond fans for sponsoring the meeting and making it possible. It was great to see the number of Diamond supporters in attendance and I hope that will be a sign for the future. We all need our fill of Speedway so why not support Redcar who has so many Newcastle connections. Amazed at the condition of the track especially after its condition on Sunday. It held up well, obviously slick but it did mean that practically all races had 4 riders together instead of being strung out. It wasn't ripe for passing, but there was the usual burst around the boards coming out of the second bend still and a few tried it. Pity about Danny K's fall after taking it on but pleased he was OK. On my way down I went through heavy rain the other side of Hartlepool, but that's where it stayed, except for a few drops later on in the meeting. Nice to be involved with the Junior match again, with some decent performances in the Cubs 8 point win. I think the Bears will do well this year, with 3 top heatleaders, and some gutsy second strings and reserves. Not a good night night for Jake M, as he couldn't get out of the gate, but when he does watch out for a fresh new talent to emerge. He is very fast, only 18, and I had the pleasure of watching in the Colts team all last year. He's going to be a great reserve, the same as you had last year with Jenkins. So yes, I am now a Redcar supporter now. They have done wonders to get where they are and it will continue I am sure.5 points

I haven't been to a speedway meeting since Newcastle closed, and thoroughly enjoyed this evening. Big thanks to the Redcar promotion for putting on the fixture, and assembling such a decent Newcastle team. The track came to the riders and in the second half of the meeting we saw some good racing. Also, the meeting was done in 80 minutes, which was great and a credit to all concerned. I haven't read a copy of the SStar since last summer either, so don't know how the Bears team compares with other sides in the Championship but you certainly have a top class trio of heat leaders: I wish the team every success and will certainly be back. It might take quite a lot to restore my faith in speedway but this evening was a very good start.4 points

Excellent meeting with some exciting and skilled racing. Three abreast for more than a lap suits me fine. Not too cold, Mr Bagpuss but then I’m a southern softie.2 points

Really enjoyed that, some good racing as there often is when Lynn is much slicker than normal. Freddie was great value as he gated last in most of his heats. King a deserved winner. One or two good prospects in the youth races too. And not cold2 points

For anyone interested... I've been by the stadium at 2.30 and was dry, sunny, and breezy.2 points

Didn't you hear? Roary was shot whilst on safari in Africa. An American hunter under the misapprehension that he was extremely dangerous unloaded his blunderbuss into his backside. He will be sorely missed2 points

What about a hybrid? With a quieter 100cc menthanol burning engine and maybe one or two riders using castor oil?2 points

Rowe is a talented rider for sure. At Leicester he never cracked the track at all and I think his attitude let him down a few times rumour has it. Think he will be a solid signing for Poole though. I want to see young Brits do well.2 points

I suppose we are going to have to put up with this erroneous nonsense all year now! "Eurosport "The 2023 FIM Speedway Grand Prix calendar has been confirmed as venues across eight different countries host FIM Speedway World Championships action in the sport's 100th season. "A century on from the first speedway event in 1923, the sport’s current generation of stars will mark a huge anniversary season with another epic year of 500cc, no-brakes, wheel-to-wheel racing on the most famous stages."1 point

Sure Emil rode for Torun on Friday and scored 10 from 4 rides so back in the groove pretty quick.1 point

Understandable first heat nerves probably after his first competitive heat for 18 months, but then quickly back on it and finishing second after beating Zmarzlik in a run off. Promising. Edit: Good to see Jarek still on the gas!1 point

Due to riders changing teams every year, it could be said for many teams. Redcar has 9 present and former riders in the line up1 point

The Ben Fund meeting is about to start and I've noticed that half the field (8 out of 16) are ex-Newcastle riders !!1 point

As per what BB has said. Would be nice if people could park properly though as there are no stewards normally for the main car park, and people park their cars as if they are trying to park a bus.1 point

Having said that are there plans to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the sport with a meeting or event?1 point

I agree with Boz (unsurprisingly). Once the track settles and the outside line is there Jake will be one of the best 2 pointers in the league. No disgrace in failing to score against more established riders. Danyon and Connor both showed signs as the meeting progressed. Jason was a bit 'rusty' but it was good to see both him and Connor take a spin after the meeting closed. Heat leader trio is the best since 1981 and I reckon barring injury Erik will be a top man. The future's bright, the future's Bear shaped (but I ain't saying we'll win anything, hoping yes but this is going to be a team worth watching - just wish we had some kind of home track advantage!)1 point

It's one of those days unfortunately, the Met Office forecast seems to be changing hourly and at the moment its essentially showers that may or may not appear and could either blow through quickly on the strong wind or like yesterday last five minutes and saturate everywhere in the blink of an eye, we even had some hail here yesterday which momentarily made my grass white! It's Pot Luck, I hope PE34 gets lucky today.1 point

Think Redcar's team this year is one of the better in the league, 3 brilliant heat leaders, 2 solid second strings and no matter who at reserve good, young lads at reserve... Think they're in with a shout of silverware this year and I want to thank the club for allowing the Diamonds to race once again, even if it was only for the one meeting. It's my closest track so I'm sure I'll be back across the a66 a few more times this year. Can't wait to see Jake Mulford grow over the season, I can see him having a big year both for Belle Vue and Redcar, he's certainly got something about him, especially at 18.1 point

Totally wrong assumption. Redcar track staff, including 'our' Johnny Swales, worked extremely hard Friday, Saturday and Sunday to try and get the meeting on for both Stuart and the many fans from here and elsewhere, to try and get this meeting on. All very well criticising from 40 of miles away, but if you had been there and therefore fit to comment you would have seen the multitude of track equipment plus volunteer vans being used to try and squeeze the water out of the track, which had got into the track following the downpour on the Saturday. Whilst it looked goodish to average on the top, apparently anybody that walked on the track said it was soft underneath and definitely unfit to ride on. Anybody from afar can make stupid and harmful assumptions, but it doesn't give credit for the effort that was put in to try and help Stuart and the fans.1 point

Basically, if a race had to be restarted when no one is deemed to be at fault, the riders only have one minute to get back to the tapes to restart the race, not the “normal” two minute allowance about bloody time too !!!1 point

It would make sense to move one other team to the Premiership. My vote is for Plymouth. Too far away and I don’t like the track.1 point

Also, electric speedway, could have the opportunity to shake off the 'greasy rockers' image, which still exists with some people. It could attract a fresh cohort of spectators, especially those who are conscious about global warming etc1 point
