June 14, 1969, KO Cup 2nd Round. Riding at No. 1, he won Heat 5 in a new Track Record of 65.6 from Gote Nordin, Les Owen, and Eddie Reeves. Booey equalled it in Heat 7.3 points

I have seen him & I agree he is special, However last season he had no pressure at all but now he is in a team set up & because he rode enough meetings he already has an average so will not start at reserve which I believe will mean him starting with much harder rides. I saw him at Oxford -V- Leicester last season play off match & he scorched Ht 2 but his next outing struggled at the back. I hope he can build on his first taste last season & become the special rider we believe he is.3 points

Pedo is not too much of an issue nowadays ...... unless he's on gate 1 and take other 3 to the fence. Or on gate 2 and trys to clamp rider off 1 Or on gate 3 when he tries to take rider off 4 to the fence. Or on gate 4 when he tries to clamp all 3 riders inside of him. Ok I see the issue here... WARNING PEDERSEN Actually i think his last 3 big crashes have been caused by one of the above2 points

Obviously I was very dissapointed yesterday, having travelled so far & arriving in lovely weather - who wouldn't be! I can read about all the effort gone into running it & understand why they chose not to call it off earlier. The downside of their efforts falling short of creating a safe track, apart from fans wasted journeys, is how many fans will stay at home in the future of the weather is iffy (or there's been a few wet days)?2 points

Nigel Tolley has posted this on the Brummies forum : A preplanning consultation was lodged in 2022, please check the Birmingham City Council website, it was withdrawn before any consultation took place.1 point

All of the Premiership fixtures are listed on the website as you will be able to get updates from every match. We were never doing Wolves v KL as a broadcast, we’re doing Wolves v Belle Vue the week after on Easter Monday though.1 point

and calling it off with fans queuing at the turnstiles is 100 times worse than that. I understand that Robbo wanted to get this meeting on after all of the failures of the past, but it's still an event that fans are expected to pay for at the end of the day.1 point

I’d expect a fair few neutrals will be traveling also. Sayfutdinov Pedersen and Doyle all in the one meeting mixing it is something we haven’t seen here in quite a while. I’ve quite a trek so will wait until Thursday morning to get a more accurate forecast as we know it can change on an hourly basis.1 point

And Ipswich have Email at No 5, love it. I anticipate that their will be strong travelling support from Peterborough so regular weather reports during the day will be very welcome.1 point

I think you are under estimating young Ashton Boughen this lad is special, I have never seen a rider take so quickly to speedway. I can see him as a heat leader by the end of the year which will push Leicester towards the title again1 point

It's a bit like my first year watching Oxford in 1972. From the starting line up only two survive...Rick Timmo and Norman Strachan. Those no longer with us include Garry Middleton, Oyvind S.Berg, Ken McKinlay, Colin Gooddy and Svein Kaasa. Thankfully Gordon Kennett and Malcolm Ballard who appeared later are still with us.1 point

As most have stated Belle Vue + Sheffield look very strong. Ipswich with the Emil and Doyle pairing will be competitive and no doubt will get plenty of Eurosport coverage. The rest of the teams look pretty even and should keep the league competitive. Leicester look pretty solid, especially if Fricke can make a contribution as an out and #1. Wolves despite the home track advantage and Peterborough Panthers look weakest. Panthers took ages to get the team finalised + just not convinced. Pedersen + Iversen back from injury. Andersen struggled last season although Basso is on the upward curve just don't think they will challenge for play-offs. Stars look ok but can see them having some horror meetings away from Norfolk. Hopefully though we will get a decent season of speedway with tracks allowing riders to race and entertain. Belle Vue Sheffield Ipswich Leicester Kings Lynn Wolverhampton Peterborough1 point

I can't believe it, such sad news Jim Lightfoot and Col Smith both gone within a few days of each other, good guys and team mates. Rest in peace Col, my thoughts are with your family and close friends. My era at Brandon is disappearing fast1 point

I've always thought the season should always begin with the BenFund Bonanza. Who knows, this year it might!1 point

Yes it's often said that we are living longer but I have often questioned that generalisation.1 point

The NL isn't just about finding 3.00 reserves who could become superstars (Harrison, Killeen & James) but also about continued progress of the previous seasons "rising stars" to accurately describe them: Hodder, Perry, Boughen, Trigger, Warren, Scott & Pijper all of these guys could have a future in the Champ & hopefully above. That is if Champ promoters use these up & coming Brits instead of flying in Aussies to average below 3.00!1 point

Or maybe the positive PR of getting speedway back but preferably someone other than Terry!1 point

Who are the 'usual knowalls' out of interest? The fact that most people think you'll finish bottom should be viewed as a positive, it takes all the pressure off and means there is only one way to go. People can only judge and speculate on what they see on paper, its what a forum is for. You shouldn't take it personally if folk think thete are eight better teams, they are only opinions after all.1 point

I have to say that Anders was the Swede I most admired (although he rode for the "Berks" down the road!)...1973 he was just awesome. Nobody really has come close within Sweden in my estimation for sheer magnetism during my time following the sport although Tommy Jansson had class but to be honest I saw very little of him (clash of race nights with Oxford) but my abiding memory of him was two classic races with Gordon Kennett at White City's opening meeting in 1976 when Gordon had to pass him on both occasions.1 point

Conny Samuelsson could have become the next big star when he joined the "Cheetahs" in 1969 however he just couldn't get on with the Cowley circuit but registerd useful points at Swindon, Coventry and I believe Cradley?. Shame that he wasn't perservered with because he could have made it in the UK with the right track but I guess it was his own decision that he never re-appeared but he did go on to excell at Ice Racing finishing on the rostrum twice (?) and had a long shale career riding for his club team in Sweden.1 point

I attended one of Olle's Training Schools at King's Lynn back in the early 80's...a real character but I think that he soon realised he was going to get nowhere with me!1 point

Gote Nordin was one of the best riders in the world in the mid-1960s and a big favourite of mine. I watched him cruise to two consecutive wins with sublime displays in the Internationale at Wimbledon in 1966 and 1967, each time against a field of world-class riders. He also claimed second place in the event in 1965 and but for a fall he might have secured a top three finish in 1964. In 1961 Nordin joined Ove Fundin and Bjorn Knutson on the rostrum to complete a Swedish 1-2-3 in the World Final. Between 1964 and 1967 he had three seasons in Britain, averaging over 10 points per match for National League Wimbledon, then in the British League for Newport and Poole.1 point

This reason I ask is because I care for the survival of speedway in the U.K. I'm not convinced the U.K. controllers know what's best for our sport. If more forward thinking was given when all the SKY money come into U.K. speedway where might we be now?0 points
