I know there is a lot of banter with Poole and sometimes it goes too far but this is genuinely sad news. Jack is a great kid, potentially a very good rider who has had no luck at all with injuries. Wish him and Poole all the best.5 points

Hope jack isn't going to be one held back by injuries never reaches his potential. Was a lovely kid in his spell in the stripes be a shame if he becomes a Mitch Davey/ Adam roynon. Most importantly hope he makes a full recovery from his injuries4 points

It’s the start of an independent body hopefully. im all for it. And no better guy to do it. good luck Phil4 points

May be Jim Lawrence should get off his backside and get up there to check it then. Rider safety is paramount. Maybe they could ask NORA92 to offer some expertise.3 points

Kings lynn don’t have an air fence that pops or that you can slide under at Scunthorpe if the bike goes in first 9 times out of ten the body takes the full impact into the armco. It really is a dangerous fence that as caused far to many serious injuries the last few years2 points
-
Surely it would be prudent to move the air fence in 1m or more leaving a gap which would certainly lessen the chances of hitting the armco barrier Jack Thomas, Dan gilkes, Joe Alcock would certainly have had more of a chance imo. Zane Kennedy not so much as he went right over the top. As has been previously stated definitely needs some sort of investigation 3 serious crashes in less than 12months is not a coincidence !2 points

Best wishes to Jack Thomas for a full recovery, meanwhile Ipswich & Poole fans instead of worrying who will replace him how about getting some fund raising going to help the very unfortunate lad?2 points

From a lions point of view it would be great if he signed for Poole. Always said it from the start that with time and patience he would do well there. Us lions really rate him. Yes his away from is average but he's only just turned 18 .2 points

Brum wont have that tho. i wonder if KK was claiming disability allowances when he was posting those scores for BV?2 points

I rate Thomas, but given Kemp had a higher average than Thomas in both leagues last season I fail to see how it makes them weaker. Both have lots of potential, the question is can they fulfil it.2 points

My first thought: they mention Morris being the decision maker in terms of rulebook interpretation - it's a shame they realise the rulebook can be interpreted many ways & have to hire someone to make sense of it! Ideally you'd want a rulebook that can only be interpreted in one way? At least they mention he's in charge of making the rulebook simple & easy to follow. That should be a priority!2 points

If he can sort out the mess that is British speedway it'll be money well spent.2 points

Thurrock councillors have unanimously backed a motion calling for Thurrock council to use the local plan to support the retention of Speedway in Thurrock and identify a new home for Grays Athletic FC.1 point

Don’t know whether a thread has covered for this in the past, but hey ho here we go. With a little help from all of you out there, I would like to compile a list of promotors and their club who have graced us in the past & present bringing us chance to watch our great sport. I will start with Maury Littlechild Crewe Kings 1969.1 point

No, the DJ likes getting fans opinions on different things. It is on his personal twitter, so separate from the club.1 point

That doesn't mean anything. They're all young an inexperienced rider's, they'll crash everywhere. Plus the fact Kennedy has signed for Scunthorpe clearly indicates he has no problem with the track1 point
-
It would be a little harsh to make a signing announcement immeadiately. As Danny Ford says, there are a few options available so no doubt discussions are already taking place.1 point

Agree, remember them well,Monarchs -Tigers battles in 60’# were fantastic and nerve tingling affairs.Atmosphere was something else.1 point

The whole point is that the Regs should not require any interpretation. I think that many fans have got used to the make-do-and-mend / sticking plaster attitude of the BSPA, instead of the need for a major overhaul ... which doesn't mean that everything has to change, but a holistic view is required to ensure necessary changes don't impact existing stuff that does work.1 point

Maybe his appointment is being encouraged/led by Discovery? Their sporting hierarchy will know him via the GPs.. Maybe they see what Speedway can be when they see how it is ran, followed, and covered in Poland and want to try and replicate it over here? The sport in the UK has generally got viewing figures that "punches above its weight", so possibly they feel that if they could get rid of the "Mickey Mouse" rules and reputation of its leagues, then UK Soeedway may become a relatively inexpensive to cover (for them) success story? Europsrt/Discovery will be used to dealing with bone fide CEO's and business leaders, and, with the best will in the world, I would suggest those who try and administer it currently are only willing amateurs, without a lot of the required skill set to run a major professional sport,, who are "doing the best they can" to run things. Hence UK Speedway remains very much a minor professional sport in the UK... Best of luck to Phil, his starting point this season with some major talent returning has good timing for him...1 point

I see you got quoted in the star this week flappy. Peterborough mentioned a long running saga over winter, often played out via rumours and semi informed leaks on social media.1 point

And the relevance of this question?? Every club pays in to BSP Ltd every year. It'll financed by that. Yes & No. He'll have to visit every Premiership track on all Monday & Thursdays to oversee the running of meetings, from track prep to close. Will be a similar position & work alongside on occasions, with what Tony Steele on behalf of ACU & SCB. It's one hell of a job he's taking on. Probably won't see any real change for 2-3 seasons. Over seeing the rule book & working for Discovery (especially temp track weeks) & BSP Ltd is going to be nuts busy for the guy. Good luck to Phil1 point

Exactly! People just get something in their heads, and can't consider any alternative. Most of us (not all of us, apparently) would rather see four riders in a race, rather than just three or two. It's okay to punish a rider or team for a starting offence, but why should the fans be punished by being forced to watch races with riders missing?1 point

Call them what you will, what I do know is that when these "caravan dwellers" turn up that invariably means trouble for the local neighbourhood. It makes no difference whether you describe them as Travellers or Gypsies.1 point

Choosing race nights was done on a first come first served basis at the time so clubs that had chosen their race night before others had first choice, but if nobody objected other clubs could race on the same night. I can’t remember what night Lakeside raced under Ronnie Russell who was losing money anyway. When Cook and Douglas took over the allocated race night was Wednesday and it quickly became clear that for various reasons including commuting from Kent on a week night mid week crowds were too small to sustain the sport ,whereas 8pm Friday brought substantially bigger crowds so for years in the old Elite League the Lakeside fixture list was submitted for Friday night racing and nobody objected because they all knew it was Friday nights or no Lakeside at all. Then for what turned out to be the final season they dropped down to the old Premier League, submitted their fixture list for the season, had it approved by the BSPA pre - season and booked the track for Friday meetings. Racing continued in line with the approved fixture list until about August when Scunthorpe had an injury to , I think from memory Steve Worrall but not entirely sure , but Godfrey then started moaning because he couldn’t get suitable guests because other clubs were racing the same night as Scunthorpe. Then he pulled out this rule and said Lakeside couldn’t race on the same night as Scunthorpe so he could get a wider choice of guests, even though he as BSPA member had approved the fixture list pre- season and the track had been booked. By that stage Rye House had closed or lost their licence so Lakeside tried to finish the season by racing at Lakeside when they could get Fridays and the other weeks they were going to race at Rye House on Saturdays. Then Godfrey in his BSPA position said they could not do that and had to race at one or the other, which basically meant Rye House and which in turn had a catastrophic effect on the fixture list. I think with League and cup matches I think we finished up racing Peterborough three weeks out of four or something like that to complete the by then congested fixture list which of course was disastrous for attendances seeing the same team every week. We were later told by John Cook at a fans forum that Stuart lost £24,000 on that episode with no help or assistance from Godfrey and the BSPA management committee. I might have missed a detail or two but that was basically it. The Lakeside owners sold the track at the end of the season and for some reason I can’t now recall Rye House never had its licence reinstated. So two more tracks went out of business in that season and another nail was sunk into the sports coffin and the BSPA continued to fiddle while Rome burned. To rub salt in the wound the SS carried an interview with Godfrey who was bleating about “ rules are rules,” but the principle of the “best interests of speedway “ didn’t seem to apply then . In fact if I remember correctly that was the season Peterborough almost went out of business as well. It’s the old, old story again, self interest first, self interest second, and if there’s anything left over, self interest again as far as the BSPA are concerned. No surprise the sport is in a mess.1 point

I don’t think there is anymore mileage in the old Arena site. The stock car club owned it of course and it was never going to be financially sustainable with just Speedway. I’d like to think a new track can be found but given that a lot of fans came from South of the Thames it has to be near the Dartford bridge. Therein lies the problem because there will be so much redevelopment for both Tilbury Docks and Housing the available land will be very scarce . Jon Cook used to say you can’t just have land for houses and offices and nothing else but apparently the local council, or more precisely the Government think you can To be fair to the local MP Jackie Doyle- Price she did come to a couple of meetings and was very enthusiastic and supportive at the time, which is more than can be said for the local council but she is really under pressure now. When the club closed the local council had been told by the Government to build 37,500 houses in the area, and that’s without other infrastructure. This seems to be one of those impossible targets Governments give out so they can say they are doing something then leave others to pick up the pieces. I think Jackie - Doyle- Price has to be seen to be doing something although the site of the track is probably still contaminated from its old days as a sand pit. This sort of thing is I fear going to be the gradual death of Speedway over time. My final point is that realistically Stuart Douglas and Jon Cook really were Lakeside and saved the club from closure when they took over in 2006/7 Duggo , as far as I know still lives in America and apart from not wanting to own a club he is rarely able to watch, he lost a lot of money when he was stitched up by Rob Godfrey in particular, and the BSPA , as was . I very much doubt that a decent bloke like Stuart would want to get his fingers burnt by that shower again. So much as I hate being negative , and much as I would like to say otherwise I think the Hammers future is very bleak.1 point
