Put it this way, I know someone who is dating a russian girl way before the invasion started. Since then she can't even leave the house. Everytime they try go out for a quick pint or even the shops some up nose tosser will give her non stop abuse. She doesn't support the war and is quite frankly ashamed of what is going on in Ukraine. To all those people that think the signing is wrong and shouldn't happen....would you deny her attending a speedway meeting ? Just cause of where she was born and her accent? Give me a break. Speedway is one big family that welcomes all backgrounds. The timing of the announcement isn't great but what has Emil go to do with Putin ? He's a speedway rider. Simple. He isn't a soldier or isn't firing missiles at anyone. He just wants to turn left and do 4 laps and enjoy his riding.7 points

I saw that myself. It was posted by one bot on Twitter which was then retweeted by a couple of others. When he was challenged to provide the photo in question, he’s ignored them. Seems to be an awful lot of mischief making going on and a few negative comments on Twitter from brand new accounts created only yesterday. The majority of the negative comments seem to be coming from the Poles, and yet the same people seem happy for him to resume racing in their native Poland. How does that make sense?7 points

They are lying. I follow all of the riders on Twitter and I remember Emil posting a handshake image where one hand was painted in a Russian flag and the other hand in a Ukrainian flag with the caption about peace no war.6 points

Just to correct the last paragraph - I was in the Peter Craven Suite last night for the amazing celebration of Steve Casey’s life so checked. At the top of the stairs, outside the suite, in gold letters, it says “Peter Craven Suite”. Below that, there is a photograph of the “Wizard of balance” himself. So yes there is a mention and yes there is a photo4 points

Straight back round to the start no need for any time allowance, keep pit gate closed and no helpers on centre green allowed, and no getting of bike to kick dirt around ,simples!3 points

Or just put the two minutes on as soon as the race is stopped. The hold up isn't the two minute warning, it's not putting the two minute warning on quick enough. So not putting the shiny new one minute warning on quick enough will still mean there is some hanging about. If there was actually two minutes between a stoppage and a restart, it wouldn't be a problem in the first place.3 points

BRITISH Speedway will bring in a new one-minute warning in order to speed up re-runs following unsatisfactory starts this season. Any race which is stopped where there is no incident such as a rider falling will have the time allowance for the re-run halved from the normal two minutes to just one. SCB co-ordinator Neil Vatcher explained: “During the course of the close season the members of the BSP Ltd have been in consultation with the SCB regards regulation changes for the 2023 season, and one of the major points brought to the table was when there is an unsatisfactory start, and the race is stopped without any incident or accident. “As with any other time allowance for the start of the race, previously the riders were allowed two minutes to return back to the start after the race had been stopped. “The authorities were in agreement that where there has been no incident or accident, just an unsatisfactory start, there is no need to allow an extra two minutes for those riders to return to the start, and one minute would be sufficient. “Therefore, for the 2023 season in the scenario of an unsatisfactory start without any incident or accident, the riders will be required to return back to the start line within one minute.”2 points

This is good news provided the referees all hit the one minute button as soon as the red lights go on to stop the race. Trouble is that some referees are very slow with the current two minute warning and I fear they will be no quicker with the one minute warning. Lessons should be given by Frank Ebdon on how to do it right.2 points

Sorry, Gordon I do not agree. A serious omission from the souvenir programme notes is unforgivable. How many programme notes for rider Memorial Meetings have you seen that make no mention of the rider being celebrated at that meeting?2 points

Congratulations to Ipswich on the signing of Emil. Not only is this a feather in the cap for Ipswich, but British Speedway in general. One thing that Ipswich has to be favourites for is the Pairs that they look as though they can retain the title.2 points

'I don't know what the English wanted to prove. Probably their own stupidity and ignorance. Or maybe they wanted to "celebrate" the anniversary of Russia's attack on Ukraine in this way? It's outrageous. They don't have an ounce of decency - said the former Polish international, Jan Krzystyniak. Sayfutdinov is not a Pole and I will repeat it all the time. He was, is and will be a Russian for me and no passport will change that. The mere fact of allowing him to compete is outrageous, because as long as the war lasts, Russian athletes should be excluded from all competitions. And what the English have done is the height of rudeness. After all, they could have announced this contract a few days earlier, or a few days later, if only out of respect for all the victims of this war. For me, they are either ignorant people who do not know what is happening in Europe, or egoists who do not care about human suffering and do not look further than the tip of their own noses, concluded Krzystyniak. And do people really think that Louis has waited virtually all the close season and announced it now without having all the required visa/permit/approvals in place?2 points

Saifutdinov is to return to the British league after a twelve-year break. (…) There were immediately speculations about the other two Russian speedway riders with a Polish passport and the potential chances, that is Artem Łaguta and Vadim Tarasenko could also sign a contract with an English or Swedish league club. (…) we inquired at source whether such a transfer would be possible and whether the announcement of Emil Sayfutdinov's contract at Ipswich Witches is formally approved by the FIM. Mikael Karlsson, head of the track racing commission of the Swedish motorcycle federation, spoke briefly but to the point on this matter. - According to the information I received from the FIM, three (Russian)riders with a Polish passport are allowed to start only in the Polish league. He repeated this answer to us twice for the sake of clarity. SVEMO does not expect Russian speedway riders with a Polish passport to join any Bauhaus-Ligan team in the 2023 season. Therefore, we have to wait for official announcements from the international motorcycle federation, and we hear in the environment that the consent for Sajfutdinov is a matter of a few days. For now, however, all formalities are beyond any binding Source: SportoweFakty.pl1 point

Even with a one minute warning I reckon many refs would still not be able to keep the show running as smoothly as Frank Ebdon always did.1 point

As I have pointed out previously there is no mention of Peter Craven in last year's programme (21 March 2022) apart from being listed as World Champion in 1955 and 1962 plus British Champion in 1962, 1963. No biographical information about Peter Craven whatsoever. A new spectator to the meeting would wonder who was this rider they were holding the memorial meeting for. Yes, there is a portrait photo of Peter on the front cover but that is it. A very poor effort.1 point

King did ride at no.3 often last season when Batch was at no.5 and King didn't perform well throughout most of the season at either This season i don't think it will be any easier at 3 with the likes of Bewley, Lidsey, Jakobsen, Pedersen, KK in the lesgue full time Based on the past he is capable of going better, he does in the championship, but is last seasons prem form his level now for the top flight, will be interesting if he gets his form back then certainly ipswich should pick up alot of bonus points Riss is the same really, never liked him riding at 2 with Doyle as again on his day he can win races at Foxhall, but he wont win races in the same heat as Doyle or against one of the strongest opposition heat leaders Think King and Riss at 3 & 4 will define the season for ipswich, lets hope they both do well1 point

There was no better place to watch speedway then the EKKA, many a night 1 would leave the ekka & would have to buy the newspaper on Monday to see who won on Saturday night.. I don’t know if they still do, but when the Brisbane Show was on, they use to have speedway demonstrations, I’m talking a few few years ago now. I left there 17 years ago..1 point

Russian-born ? He is Russian through and through. The Polish passport he was granted has been used for travelling around European Union with no visas, etc., He never wanted to compete as a Pole, but now uses the Polish passport as a tool for signing for British club. He never renounced his Russian passport and citizenship. So it's not fair to call him Russian-born.1 point

It was probably only made today thanks to the Polish media making it known and no malice was intended in announcing it on the anniversary of the incursion but that said it all started some time before with Crimea. It is a good signing for U.K. speedway but we are an island with an awful lot of small minded individuals who look for a cause to rise up against whatever, irrespective of the facts. Most clubs will see some benefit and hopefully add to punters to the throughput on the gate. Woe betide the authorities if they veto the signing. It will certainly be an interesting season and Chris deserves some support for having the vision to go beyond the run of mill signings and shake up the sport with an out and out rider whose has an appetite to chase the glory. Hopefully speedway U.K. will benefit from this move.1 point

In a nutshell, yes. Those meetings were never as well supported and everyone knows they are a filler to give an additional handful of meetings. In my view if they want to give promoters an additional three meetings, just extend the league programme to give each team three extra fixtures on a rotational basis. One year you get Plymouth, Redcar and Edinburgh the next Poole, Oxford and Glasgow etc. The idea of keeping things local to minimise travel is pretty flawed given a lot of riders aren't based near their Championship track anyway. These 'trophy' meetings never get the crowds like league meetings do.1 point
