Correct a mini track has been installed on the right hand side as you enter the site... all coming together with the delivery of the seating which is a massive mecano set... the pits are 80% built... lights tapes and other trackside equipment ready to go in... New generator acquired that will potentially run the full site... time will be tight but everyone is pulling together... UTC.... an all that... Regards THJ7 points

And sometimes you are just simply bang to rights. I am sure that there are many still of the opinion that Harold Shipman was just a little trigger happy with the flu jab and that Fred West was over enthusiastic when he was fitting damp proof courses.(cue the indignant comments of ''How dare you compare him to a mass murder etc etc) I have the list on my desk and it runs into the 100's and 100's and that's a fact. Whether you choose to believe that is none of my concern. The late Phil Rising was sent a copy and was well aware of its contents. This, I might remind you is from an ex-rider who retired some 36 years ago. According to some 20 odd riders I spoke with recently, all confirmed that they did not get a free pass during the one year PC was Promoter. In addition, the tone of the many letters received personally and by the BV management were abusive and demanding. I would challenge anyone reading this to say they would capitulate to such demands made this way. The P&L of any speedway club sits in the hands of the Promoter and so does the decision of the 'free list', Not an ex-rider of any description. Someone earlier mention Hans Nielsen. Does anyone think Hans would make such a demand of the current Oxford promotion and expected this to be granted? Its unthinkable. I have bitten my tongue on this subject for 7 years and have an A4 ring binder full of letters and notes that are appalling from the hand of the ex-World Champion. I also have copies of 3 letters sent to him from the BV management asking to come down and discuss the matter. Plus 1 inviting him to discuss a meeting to celebrate 40 years since his 76 victory in 2016. All unanswered. Interesting don't you think? The disgusting note scrawled in my late friends book really was the last straw and the facts need to be put out there. For those of you intimating that there are two sides of the story, its a witch hunt and it was a moment of aberration, you are welcome to your opinion. I much prefer facts. I have a clear conscience about all of my postings. The book incident was the last of many such abusive incidents and only 10% of the iceberg has been revealed. There is no getting away from the fact that Collins has totally brought this upon himself.6 points

Despite this being 6 years ago, it's interesting that this is so similar to the current thread. I guess some leopards really don't ever change their spots. I think BV would be more than justified to stop offering PC olive branches now.3 points

being a Wimbledon supporter PC was neither here nor there with me except in World Finals, but i was put off him after his treatment of Kenny Carter wanting a British Final to be on (84?). some can be great riders but not great people, and sometimes you have to differentiate between the two. i take people by how they treat me personally, others tell me to avoid so and so, or so and so is horrible, but i'll take everyone as i find them. saying that, it was quite a low move by PC with his message in Steve Casey's book2 points

I agree with Fromafar, same for Leicester too, suggesting Spencer ends up at reserve isn't me suggesting his average will drop, just that I expect James, Boughton & Perry to do very well! I think Spencer could up his average & still end up as reserve! Don't see Oxford ending up with the same firepower at reserve as their main rivals.2 points

Thank you Ian. Most of us are watching this (sad) story evolve from the outside. Inside information like this is very interesting. .......... and can I reiterate I was a massive PC fan as a rider.2 points

Taken from the new Nora Speedway League Facebook page today: A BRAND-NEW SPEEDWAY LEAGUE - the first for more than a quarter of a century - is set to launch. And it will welcome competitive team racing back to the Isle of Wight. Three other clubs, Plymouth, Sittingbourne and Cradley Heath will compete in the summer-long Nora Speedway League (NSL). The Isle of Wight will welcome back team racing after they dropped out of the National Development League at the beginning of 2020. Completing the 2023 starters are Plymouth, Sittingbourne and Cradley Heath. The Devon team will be a separate club to the Championship Gladiators and the new NSL Sittingbourne Crusaders will race at Iwade totally unrelated to Kent Royals. The Heathens, who have been without a permanent venue since their Dudley Wood Stadium home was sold for a housing development in 1995, will be a fully funded nomadic side, racing both home and away at each of the other circuits. The Nora Speedway League has already attracted a league sponsor in the form of Nora 92 and will be known as the Nora 92 Speedway League in 2023. The NSL is a major boost to the sport’s grass roots and organisers hope it will be a fertile nursery for Great Britain stars of the future. Club bosses have already agreed rules and regulations and insist the priority is to combine competitive racing with entertainment from the minute fans enter the stadium to their last step out on the way home. There will be a number of ground-breaking innovations that will set the NSL aside from other competitions with the introduction of a revolutionary handicap system that was successfully trialled on the Isle of Wight last year. Founding promoter Barry Bishop said: “The Nora 92 Speedway League will help develop riders even further with a focus on entertainment and value. In addition to this, it will be a league to encourage new riders into the sport by allowing them to be part of the meeting from an early stage while keeping a firm eye on the bigger picture of helping riders go on to great heights in the sport in the UK or abroad. What the league is not about is taking anything from the brilliant work of the BSPL’s National Development League; we are here to complement it, in a way that works for our businesses with the product that we want to put on under the guidance of Nora. The Nora 92 Speedway League is a natural follow on from the two successful Nora speedway seasons staged on the Isle of Wight in 2021 and 22, and at other tracks around the UK. Each team entering the league will consist of six riders who will get five rides per meeting. The league will make use of rules that have been tested over the last two seasons on the island to encourage rider development while focussing on entertainment. These rules which deviate from regular speedway will be included in matchday programs but are expected to include Team Manager selection to handicap opposing team riders and rider selection across all three of the last heats”. Bishop added, “We’ve proven that riders who come to the Island and participate in our meetings have shown considerable improvement over the last two seasons and the Nora 92 Speedway League will help develop riders even further with a focus on entertainment and value. My partner Martin Widman and I are so excited to be able to take the style of the Nora meetings we stage from the Island to the mainland and we are extremely grateful to stadium owners allowing us to rent their venues for this exciting new venture. The fixtures will be released as soon as possible and with most clubs, except the Warriors, running at the weekend we believe it is a brilliant opportunity for riders to get on track with the Nora 92 Speedway league for some fun time speedway. We would all like to thank Nora 92 for becoming the leagues sponsors in our fledgeling season and we are delighted they are on this journey with us. Hopefully, the fans and sponsors will welcome the teams to their hearts and get behind them all. We’ve worked so hard to ensure that we are ready for this and websites and social media will be online soon and, of course, team announcements. Hold on to your hats, this is going to be great. Please keep up to date with everything Nora Speedway League initially via our Facebook page “Nora Speedway League”. Lastly, we’re delighted to be finalising the 2023 agreement with Wightlink also and we will make a statement on this in due course.” NOTE: The last new national league competition to be launched was the British Academy League (now branded the National Development League) in 1994. and this from the Wightlink Warriors website: More Team Speedway For The Warriors In 2023 As Founding Members Of New League The Wightlink Warriors promotion have been beavering away during the off season with plans for another summer season of shale track action at the Smallbrook Stadium in Ryde – and there will be an exciting addition to the weekly fayre as the Warriors are in line to be founder members of the newly formed Nora Speedway League. The league – which has attracted sponsorship from Nora 92 will be known as the Nora 92 Speedway League - will feature the Warriors, Plymouth, Sittingbourne and Cradley. Warriors’ co-owner Barry Bishop said, “We are delighted to participate in the Nora 92 Speedway League which focuses on entertainment and value while looking to develop riders’ futures. It would seem that track time in the UK is becoming a precious commodity and we are only too pleased to allow our riders the maximum track experience that we can. Martin and I are just so excited about this, and we know the league will draw on our experience from the last two seasons to offer a new style of Speedway. We cannot wait to get going. The Nora 92 Speedway League will be complemented by a Knock-Out Cup too, and as well as the cup we hope that other innovative meetings including a Nora Riders Championship will also be possible. 2023 looks to be a bumper year for riders, fans and sponsors as we plan our full programme of action at Smallbrook Stadium including the Island Masters, Uprights, Ladies, MSDL, Flat-Track, Pairs, Handicap and more. This is an important year for us as we take the Warriors team off the Island again and we will soon be announcing team members, managers, fixtures and more.” Tapes up on the 2023 Speedway Season is expected in June.1 point

And he’s basically admitted this himself with his recent interview. That’s why I’d be very wary of signing him. Look at the “effort” he put in at Lynn, and that was years ago when he was in his pomp. I’d swerve him personally.1 point

Hmmm, each side with four guests and r/r? Let's hope, sincerely, that the coming season -- in all three leagues -- is never reduced to anything approaching this sad chaos .......1 point

Cant blame him tbh. Would u fly to another country once a week to earn a fraction of what you are earning in your own country doing the same job? Im sure the money uk clubs offer isnt worth the outlay.1 point

Newcastle Select. Perhaps you would prefer the fixture not to take place. Home promoters pay all 16 in an open meeting, relax1 point

They couldn't afford it, being a wooden stand they probably wouldn't get a safety certificate for football to be played in it.1 point

They want to take over the Crownpoint Glasgow Life facility and develop it. No idea what the plans are for the existing facilities, but it's one of the few accessible running tracks in Glasgow so I'd hope there would be strings attached, to make them keep it. Not sure what the status is tbh. The owner died last year, no idea who controls it now. The site is a crumbling mess and unless anyone has a real passion to resurrect the stadium (unlikely, as Clyde are looking elsewhere and I can't think of anyone else who might want it), it's most likely going to either become a housing development, or be scooped up by the Clyde Gateway urban regeneration project.1 point

Surely the whole issue here is that PC's recollection / presentation of his request is at odds with others who say they know. In the end you have to decide who you believe. This was discussed on the forum some time ago, with even the late Phil Rising saying he had seen the list of names, and that it amounted to a substantial number, some of which had no connection to Belle Vue. Someone more adept at searching the forum will no doubt be able to find it. Whatever the truth, it doesn't diminish the completely hurtful inscription he made in the book Steve Casey paid for, nor explain why PC has allowed a dispute with Belle Vue to go on for 35 years ( according to his apology) Edit: I've found the previous thread. It is under Peter Collins Article By keepturningleft, October 26, 2017 in Speedway News and Discussions It's worth a read, because many of the same arguments were aired then, and for anyone who has Speedway Stars from then there will be two articles to look at1 point

As long as the team is completed by March 15th I don’t care when they announce it. March 15th is the season ticket deadline and I’m still in two minds whether to get one or not.1 point

Burned too many bridges I think, too many times he has let clubs down, and not simply by having a bad night, but just just giving up and not even making an effort, whilst no doubt still drawing a wage because promoters are dumb enough to pay a downside guarantee to him.1 point

The key phrase was 'ending up'. I think szkocjasid is assuming Luke will not stay at reserve for long, an assessment I'm sure hou concur with.1 point

I'm not sure if there are any better 3.00 riders available, but they can always make changes if needed. The Oxford team is clearly built to win based on having 4 heat leaders, plus the very promising Jody Scott who may end up being their 5th HL. I would rate their main rivals Workington (S.McGurk & Kelly) & Leicester (Spencer & Foord) as ending up with stronger reserves than Oxford (Clouting & Fellows) though.1 point

I think the laddie needs to stop wearing upside down plant pots on his head, get a haircut, toughen up a bit and spend less time on producing calenders etc. Seems to be a case of more style than substance (of the right sort)1 point

Doesn’t matter what anyone’s opinion is on him, he hasn’t got a team place simply because team’s decision makers consider other riders are better value. Matter closed……..until May, when someone somewhere is under performing and the scramble starts for unattached options.1 point

It's interesting though, that this subject is nearly always raised and discussed with respect to the setting of rules and adherence to the spirit of the law. This is but a small part of the overall governance and promotion of the sport. We have to take a broader view of what is required if our sport is not just to survive, but to thrive and grow going forward. The quality of "promotion" at a club level is debatable , at the sport level, its not existent. An independent governing body / individual, needs to lead from the front. Not down in the weeds of guest riders or doubling up. Those are important facets of our sport and must be properly and fairly regulated. But get preoccupied with them at your peril. The nerds amongst us (and yes, I'm one) get absorbed by such topics but imagine for a moment. We double the average gate at every speedway meeting in the country. How many of those new fans are coming to see whether a tactical substitute is allowed in heat 8. They want to see exciting racing. The same reason you kept coming after that first exposure to our great sport. Top down. Not bottom up.1 point

Can I mention that the Tyne Tees Trophy was run over two legs and as Newcastle do not have a Track, Promoter or any Riders registered in their name who will pay anybody for riding under the Newcastle name for this meeting, I wonder if Redcar will be glad to pay the extra money hoping that a good crowd attends from Newcastle. I'm sure that the the BSPA will not sanction a team put out in the name of Newcastle since they stopped many teams from using a former clubs name from riding at another track, Cradley Heath springs to mind.0 points
