And sometimes you are just simply bang to rights. I am sure that there are many still of the opinion that Harold Shipman was just a little trigger happy with the flu jab and that Fred West was over enthusiastic when he was fitting damp proof courses.(cue the indignant comments of ''How dare you compare him to a mass murder etc etc) I have the list on my desk and it runs into the 100's and 100's and that's a fact. Whether you choose to believe that is none of my concern. The late Phil Rising was sent a copy and was well aware of its contents. This, I might remind you is from an ex-rider who retired some 36 years ago. According to some 20 odd riders I spoke with recently, all confirmed that they did not get a free pass during the one year PC was Promoter. In addition, the tone of the many letters received personally and by the BV management were abusive and demanding. I would challenge anyone reading this to say they would capitulate to such demands made this way. The P&L of any speedway club sits in the hands of the Promoter and so does the decision of the 'free list', Not an ex-rider of any description. Someone earlier mention Hans Nielsen. Does anyone think Hans would make such a demand of the current Oxford promotion and expected this to be granted? Its unthinkable. I have bitten my tongue on this subject for 7 years and have an A4 ring binder full of letters and notes that are appalling from the hand of the ex-World Champion. I also have copies of 3 letters sent to him from the BV management asking to come down and discuss the matter. Plus 1 inviting him to discuss a meeting to celebrate 40 years since his 76 victory in 2016. All unanswered. Interesting don't you think? The disgusting note scrawled in my late friends book really was the last straw and the facts need to be put out there. For those of you intimating that there are two sides of the story, its a witch hunt and it was a moment of aberration, you are welcome to your opinion. I much prefer facts. I have a clear conscience about all of my postings. The book incident was the last of many such abusive incidents and only 10% of the iceberg has been revealed. There is no getting away from the fact that Collins has totally brought this upon himself.5 points

As long as the team is completed by March 15th I don’t care when they announce it. March 15th is the season ticket deadline and I’m still in two minds whether to get one or not.2 points

They are striving to be the best team they can,,,,,,,,, I know I live on a different planet to most of you,,,, but I always thought that was the idea anyway.2 points

Burned too many bridges I think, too many times he has let clubs down, and not simply by having a bad night, but just just giving up and not even making an effort, whilst no doubt still drawing a wage because promoters are dumb enough to pay a downside guarantee to him.2 points

Didn’t he up his average by 2 points or something for Poole? the PR and magazines etc is done by one of his sponsors, and yes, financially he was held back this year2 points

One of the reasons Kemp hasn't got a Champ spot this year is because he did "too well" last year. Along with the likes of Dan Thompson, Broc Nicol & Dillon Ruml who also can't find Champ team spots. Whereas riders who performed far worse last year Pearson, Fredriksen, Hook, Complin, Heeps & J.Thompson have all been signed up.2 points

PC certainly made a” mountain out of a molehill” regarding Who he thought should pay.He should ask himself how many were really bothered whether they paid or not,or whether they would attend anyway.Seems a really trivial thing to get so involved in dispute to the degree he has.He has certainly tarnished his reputation with the matter that followed.Sad really.Suspect there was more too it.2 points

Looked almost a NL strength line-up, but you can only beat the riders who are against you. A useful warm-up for Schlein, but doesn't give any hints about his form ahead of his comeback.2 points

Thank you Ian. Most of us are watching this (sad) story evolve from the outside. Inside information like this is very interesting. .......... and can I reiterate I was a massive PC fan as a rider.1 point

Re PC holding a grudge from 35 years ago - as I said in my post I had left speedway behind before he retired from riding so knew nothing about his managerial days. I did say though I was shocked to find out what was going on behind the scenes, and that I surprised that BV still exists. So I can appreciate why he feels bad about what happened. It is obvious PC was passionate about BV remaining (surviving) as a club. In 2016 it nearly didn't, and he wasn't part of management then. As for the "free entry". Prior to reading the book all I had heard it was like every man with a dog was on the list. Reading the book I understand there was two lists, I dont know if anyone has mentioned two lists on here. And PC is very clear on what the two lists represented. I just hope that if ever I am up in court the members of the jury are reminded not to make up their minds without having listened carefully to the prosecution and the defence.1 point

Surely the whole issue here is that PC's recollection / presentation of his request is at odds with others who say they know. In the end you have to decide who you believe. This was discussed on the forum some time ago, with even the late Phil Rising saying he had seen the list of names, and that it amounted to a substantial number, some of which had no connection to Belle Vue. Someone more adept at searching the forum will no doubt be able to find it. Whatever the truth, it doesn't diminish the completely hurtful inscription he made in the book Steve Casey paid for, nor explain why PC has allowed a dispute with Belle Vue to go on for 35 years ( according to his apology) Edit: I've found the previous thread. It is under Peter Collins Article By keepturningleft, October 26, 2017 in Speedway News and Discussions It's worth a read, because many of the same arguments were aired then, and for anyone who has Speedway Stars from then there will be two articles to look at1 point

If McGurk And Kelly end up at reserve it means that Harrison and the rest are doing very well though so hardly makes any difference.1 point

Just to clarify, Redcar do not run ‘Nora’ speedway events. They do rent the track out to Flat Trackers who run under Nora but no speedway is run under those regulations.1 point

Max rode for the moanarchs few years back don't think he ever got up to a 4 point average if my memory serves me. Could be nearly a decade ago now so might be worth another go in the champ1 point

I may have misunderstood the article and the very specific wording but it's my understanding from reading it that Barry (Bishop) and Martin (Widman) will PROMOTE at all 3 NORA League Venues. They will enter in to specific LEASE agreements with Iwade and Plymouth so that they are leasing the Tracks for NORA League and that therefore it avoids any "conflict of interest" for the Iwade and Plymouth BSPL Promotions in being involved in what some may label "breakaway". Ths differs from some other Tracks (Scunthorpe and Redcar) who run NORA but in the true Amateur Training and less formal league sense and presumably no paying crowd but Riders who pay to ride. So, unless the Owners of Buxton and Eastbourne Stadiums as an example are prepared to enter in to a 3rd Party Agreement with Barry and Martin the option would be a non-starter. It makes complete sense to me that having created a Brand and Identity on the IOW that Barry and Martin are 100% committed to ensuring it is maintained in their ventures at Iwade and Plymouth so as not to denegrate or reduce it and that the Owners of Iwade and PLymouth are happy to let them do that in the knowledge that they will get some Rental income from it and two innovative professionals in Barry and Martin to run it. Whether Iwade and Plymouth see this as a backstop or alternative route for their future should British Speedway under BSPL governance continue to fragment is totally up to them but it does give them some scope to consider that. The other interesting comment was that to set up and fulfil the extra work it would appear that Iwade and PLymouth will run NORA on a weekend. No surprise for iwade as they have no lights but it would be very interesting to see if NORA at Plymouth can draw Crowds anywhere near what they get for CL on a Tuesday. Maybe I've misunderstood but that's my interpretation of the article.1 point

The key phrase was 'ending up'. I think szkocjasid is assuming Luke will not stay at reserve for long, an assessment I'm sure hou concur with.1 point

Signed for Poole in the Premiership for 2009 but couldn’t ride as complications from a leg injury sustained the previous year ruled him out.1 point

Can’t wait for Eastbourne to return. Some of the best speedway days out was a Good Friday. Poole at 11 am played out in front of a packed Wimborne Road, before heading east to Eastbourne in the evening for part two. Really brilliant days. Some titanic battles and top notch action. And some excellent budgie bashing with old man Dugard doing his best to doctor the track in favour of the budgies. Hopefully just a season away.1 point

I have to admit I thought he was a class act...the "King" of "Glam Rock". I still occasionally listen to his music now. He may be disgraced but you can't take away the impact he had on the music scene during the early/middle seventies.1 point

I seem to recall that the rising star label was only applicable for two seasons for any rider. But if Drew Kemp has not been selected by any of the Premiership or Championship clubs then he needs to take a long hard look at himself & answer his own questions1 point

It's not a numbers game on the Rising Star list. Everyone who can ride these bikes has talent. The issue is whether they have the work ethic or do they just want things to fall in their laps without effort? Has he believed his own hype & gained a stinker of an ego? Got to say that I haven't seen this "talent" people talk about. He certainly isn't up there with Woffinden, Lambert, Bewley at a young age.1 point

In my opinion he thinks he’s far better than he actually is - hopefully the talent he had will win through in the end1 point
