  1. Same as those who pay lots of money to watch football only to leave with ten minutes still to play having watched 80 minutes of a boring 0-0 draw. I always like it when that sort of match explodes with three goals in the last 10 minutes. Serves them right and if you enjoy the sport why would you want to miss anything. If you don't enjoy it why bother going in the first place?

  2. I was just reiterating what Jenga said about there are more important things other than who will be race day announcer. I agree the team, the league and the track looks fantastic and hopefully supporters old and new will come flooding back. Workington needs speedway and by losing it, it makes you realise how much you have lost. ( I never missed a meeting). I just hope others think the same...

  3. Looking at the other teams, I seriously can’t see past us making it a hat trick of titles, injury dodging accepted. Think we are just going to be too strong again, though it could be tougher than this year. Experience at the top, the Cooks very likely to improve, Jack Thomas on a bargain average, and our experienced reserves who should see off the majority of their opposition fairly easily. Backed up by management who are very good at getting the best out of the riders. Happy New Year to all Pirates fans. I believe another successful season awaits. Is there another club in this league capable of giving us a proper challenge?

  4. It’s sad that there appears to be no fan organised opposition to the loss of the Swindon robins along the lines of Coventry or Oxford who have had plenty of positive support during their wilderness years Surely there must be plenty of people with the required skills and passion to drive this forward

  7. Presumably the concern would be third-tier racing rather than second. FWIW I think NDL is the right level (for now) to establish a base and build on it and I echo your comments on both the competitive nature of the side and the racers within it. The track looks superb and I think the huge bends (so big they almost have their own run-off areas!) will encourage the youngsters to wind it on. Really looking forward to the first meeting.

  8. Or perhaps I meant it. No one knows what will happen. But happy with the touted team.

  11. Could I ask is there a reason why the support won't turn out to get behind the comets. Personally think the teams very good for the NDL will be very competitive and good to watch. Plenty of racers in the team to give the fans something to cheer about.

  13. we need ALL the support we can get atm , i think we should forget about hoggy for the moment, unless he wants to help out and try and pull supporters old and new into the arena these guys have built for our entertainment for the good of northside speedway .

  16. I never bought a season ticket in all the years I went to speedway...too many variables in my opinion.

  17. Can remember going to watch motor racing there in 60s, bloody boring afternoon. Then they had some sort of cubs/scouts jamboree celebration in the same decade at the athletics stadium, about 10,000 watching, my troop was 24th. Camberwell. We had to do various exercise routines in middle of stadium. Dont know why the Palace didnt develop it, better than Selhurst Park i reckon.

  18. It seems looking through the prices so far there isn’t a big enough saving/incentive to buy a season ticket, with postponements etc there isn’t much flexibility

  19. I know that it's all relative quoting prices from the past and taking into account inflationary adjustment but when I first went to speedway (1972) it cost 30p entrance (child) and 8p for a programme for 13 heats of main match action plus anything between 6 and 7 second half races.

  21. There's a real mixed bad of 3rd heat leaders this year, so is Cook is 3rd heat leader quality? Lewis Kerr, Ben Barker & Charles Wright look the strongest. After that they are similar standards: Leon Flint, Kye Thomson, Tom Brennan, Ben Cook & Jake Allen. With only James Wright far weaker imo So it appears Cook is on a par with the majority of 3rd heat leaders after all.

  22. Although half the crowd would leave after heat 13 (some even during it). As heat 13 approached there would always be a crowd gathering around stadium exits ready to run out and avoid traffic. I never really understood that myself. The best time to avoid queues was after 2 or 3 second half races.

  23. Is admin a Poole fan. Get rid. Now wonder why peeps don't like Poole. This don't help. Second tier team. Why have threads in both leagues??. Who else can...

  24. From the age of four I was taken to Wimbledon for Speedway. In those days it ran on a Monday evening and even during term time we never missed a meeting and I never suffered problems at school. We never had any stadium bought food. My parents always took a flask of coffee and we stopped at the local sweet shop on our way to the stadium to buy a Mars, Crunchie or other chocolate bar for each of us. Sweets and coffee were had during the interval. My father always bought a programme and when I was old enough I also had one to fill in. These days I print my own race cards for both sports and don't normally buy a programme as most seem to be 24 or more pages of adverts. For Speedway the old programmes tended to be 8 pages which consisted of front cover, administration and advert for next meeting, promoters piece, centre page spread of race card, meet the visitors, sponsors adverts and back cover with fixture list that had results of meetings already run. Such a programme was cheap to produce and most people bought one as they were cheap. Today's magazine programmes have probably one extra article and half a dozen colour photos but the rest is all adverts that never change but you pay for over and over again which does not appear to be very good value. I am happy to agree that some current programmes are better but some are worse.

  30. It's about context and respect. As keepturningleft pointed out: 'How many former Belle Vue riders can there be that live in or near Manchester? A tiny handful. It seems quite mean spirited of the BV management to stick with such rigid formality rather than show some heart, waive the entrance fee and instead wave these valued old timers in.' In fairness to the current BV regime, my understanding from speaking to several ex-Aces who have attended meetings this year, the club management's policy seems to be that all-ex BV riders ARE admitted free of charge . . . BUT they first have to contact Mark Lemon to get the OK from him. That obviously wouldn't be necessarily (and would save Mark time having to reply to requests) if BV simply issued the handful who wish to attend a seasonal pass with a passport-style photo that cannot be transferred to a mate or anyone else. It must be a little demeaning for prominent ex-riders, including one legend (not PC), to have to phone or text Lemon to get his permission. For this reason I know of one ex-Ace who, to avoid embarrassment, either just stays away or pays to get in. It shouldn't be this way. As for the lesser lights you mentioned, my purely personal view if that everyone who put their neck on the line for any club in at least six official senior matches should be offered a season pass. If I was running a track, I'd want the ex-riders to feel welcome. If they are, they are so much more likely to spread positive vibes about the speedway, which can only be a good thing when the paying support is diminishing at most venues.

  32. How has he added to it he asked a genuine question and he is correct. There is not a thread you haven’t hijacked at some point. There are two threads relevant Poole 2023 and the most important one why does everyone hate Poole.

  33. Yeah it was all fine when we were bottom of the league every year but changed when Facenna's took over, we now have a lovely stadium, great facilities and a team that challenges for the top, however ,I miss the old family atmosphere, I couldn't care if we won the league or not, I do like that we have exciting racing and to me that is the most important issue.

  37. Its a misnomer about clubs releasing riders after the end of a season. All riders are self employed regardless of who's asset they are if they decide to ride elsewhere there is nothing the parent club can do about it .

  38. i think you owned up to being a part time supporter at Scunthorpe a while back , didnt you ? also only going to home meetings when the oppo were good teams and when it suited you i am sure your promoter would have liked you to attend more than you did you should be able to answer your own question .
