As ever it's all cloak and dagger How hard is it to be fully upfront with the Rising Star criteria and a full list of who qualifies? Similar applies to a full list of team building averages for EVERY rider. There is no reason it shouldn't be there plain as day for all to see8 points

Steve Lawson is grey enough and every time someone mentions stock cars you can see another one turn grey in front of your eyes... So at present I can say with confidence there won't be stocks on the current track... However you should never say never but in this case as long as Steve remains track curator it won't be happening on his watch... Regards THJ7 points

I would say I’m British as well if it meant I could start my speedway career much easier on a 2.00 average than a 4.00 as well. Nothing against him just taking advantage of the system. I’d be doing the same.4 points

Like what. Don’t implicate yourself on any reply and be sure to mention the following. However I would not endorse any practice that may impact the integrity of the sport. And also I emphasise that Edinburgh would not partake in any underhanded payments to there riders.4 points

There is a reason, they don't want us to know as they haven't all got their teams sorted yet so adjustments to the list may look amateurish (sorry, had to laugh at the last bit whilst typing)3 points

Where does Tom say he’s leaving BV? All he’s said is he’s no longer a Rising Star. Maybe this is just a pre-announcement (by BV) tease?3 points

I seem to remember the long wait for Kileen to receive his British passport to enable him to race in NDL meetings. So I feel he is very much British3 points

Now l agree a 16-year-old getting a CL berth isnt always going to mean he'll be winning a GP in five seasons or so (and in Dan's case he had a really bad injury and a Covid year to contend with, too!) but my point was, no-one should be written off as not being up to standard until after he's been given his chance......3 points
-
Something l read -- more or less word-for-word -- when Dan Bewley, Tom Brennan and Leon Flint were introduced to CL racing as very raw, 2-point, 16-year-olds.... All theee raced at the Cardiff GP this year, and one of them even won it!3 points

Chunky suggests :- But... 21 - The racing is just the same, so items 1-20 aren't important! I don't think so. 21st century speedway on laydown engined rev rockets with tyres that barely last 4 laps. Get out of the gate - head down and hang on and fill your boots.3 points

Seen Rew a few times now, can be very up and down but certainly has talent. a tall lad so tighter tracks might be the problem3 points

Glasgow’s running costs were six figures in the negative in 2019, and I don’t see anything to indicate they’ve improved. Crowds certainly aren’t up. So I don’t think I’d be worrying too much about any possible notional rent to the profitable company that keeps the club going. For all the transformation of the facilities, and the success of running FIM events, I don’t think it’s turned into anything like a break even venture. I’m sure they’re trying to change that, of course. But it’s a big gap.3 points

That will works brilliant in theory but in practice a "local sponsor" will pay the difference demanded!3 points

What is this snipping certain Poole fans have with Plymouth. Yes there is also some coming the other way. These are the only two teams in the South/ south west of England, both of which are important to the sport. I admit I feel for both clubs having started at Plymouth in 1962 and Poole since 1985. Personally I hope both have very competitive teams and both are successful.3 points

Whilst I'm all for giving the young British talent pool a fair chance, They have to want to race at this level not be forced into a situation that they are unprepared for just to tick a box. If it was made a rule would these riders be helped with an upgrade in machinery that maybe required or transport to meetings for instance In this Oxford team I worry for Luke Kileen He has had one good meeting for Oxford in the NDL but he has been off his machine many times & suffered a bad break to his leg. He may well be a nice kid with great people around him but is he ready for this big step in his speedway life? Then what will it do for his confidence & his future?3 points

The aim is to have an official club launch before Christmas... the web site is good to go so once the launch happens WorkingtonComets.com will go live... still a lot to do track wise from now til Easter(ish) start meeting and we may have to start off with the site running on generators as Nor-Web aren't making any friends by dragging their heels on the installation of the new electic supply to the track... local MP Mark Jenkinson got a special mention for all the effort he was putting in to make things happen along with Allerdale Council... nice to have some friends... Entry prices and corporate package proposals are being worked on and the team manager has the team lined up and contracts will be put in front of riders very soon... AGM team build points limit depending... Supporters club and the Friends of Workington Speedway will be resurrected in some form or other... and the VIP sponsers box will be open to all... not just companies for corporate entertainment... First meeting... the track... the ground and finance were discussed in full and a dozen other issues were parked until after the NDL AGM however there is still a great deal to do before we turn a wheel at Northside.... but the will is there to make it happen and be a success... Luke and brother Dec were both held up from racing in the first half of last season while the UK passport office weren't issuing any passports because all their staff were processing Ukrainian refugees -- it was much the same reason that delayed issue of a work permit/visa to Berwick's Jonas Knudsen. Many people on here may remember Frank Killeen, who was a rambunctious second-halver at Belle Vue and Wolverhampton in the 1980s -- Frank emigrated to Perth during the 1990s and his two sons were born there. Both hold UK nationality, and now have British passports.2 points

If Ben Trigger is in Plymouths team at least you would have a local lad who is willing to listen and learn, and will pick up the odd point or 2 just by the fact he doesn't fall off alot and he's a good gater,I know Ben and his father there will be no tantrums and sulking and bad mouthing the manager and promoter from Lee,Ben's father. They will treat it as an opportunity for track time and experience no expectation to be anything more than a no7 but unlike Poole who to their credit stayed loyal to Ablitt and imo could have cashed in on his experience gained last season and he would have upped his 2pt average this season i believe Plymouth will see ben as a long term project. Also the make up of the rest of the team will obviously dictate who you have at reserve anyway. Atkins, McGurk both had higher expectations than there abilities imo.Ablitt scored less than 20pts and didn't win a race in the league last season I think and Poole done ok.2 points

Want him back at Plymouth as he goes well at home and was improving away. His starting average is also really good value. Would be a really strong reserve imo.2 points

What, like the Cook brothers?? (PS Is Mark Lemon still a Poole asset?)2 points

Things will be twisted on whatever way they have to be to get the riders they want. Years ago I remember hearing of one rider being on a guaranteed £300 per programmed ride meaning even if he actually only took 3 scoreless rides he was still taking £1200 home. He would have been on points and travel money too so its little wonder if other teams had similar deals many were in financial difficulties. When you hear stories of riders also wanting bikes, spares, vans and accommodation and workshop facilities paid for it would it really does make it an expensive circus. But just who are the clowns?2 points

...remember the days when a team had to declare a "junior" in their team. Noble initiative but it was never going to really work although some did swim rather than sink!2 points

would be weakest No 7 in CL if true, I know Gary May has a reputation for sacrificing riders but he's no where near ready and nowhere near the likes of Ablitt / McGurk who struggled on track for most matches in CL last year but who are much more mature too physically and off track. I can see logic for Ace Pijper who looks a genuine rising star but at least a season, probably 2 seasons too soon for Trigger. Got to be better 2 point options2 points

Obviously you need young British riders, but chucking riders in to early dents progress imo, alot more sink than swim2 points

They just seem to go round in circles regarding young British Talent a fair chance.Change the rules every season of their 5 year plan.Their 2-3pt average is just making up the numbers.2 points

Doyle is first class and remains committed to British Speedway and for that reason he’s not all about money! As he has said many times, riding British tracks (more technical than elsewhere in Europe) makes him a better rider. His fellow Aussie mates have picked up on this when you consider that next seasons Aussie GP riders will all be riding in this country. Despite his high average I think most teams would try and juggle their team building if they thought they could get him to ride for them. Think he will get a good reception when he comes to Leicester with the Witches. We’ll secretly wish he has a stinker on the night, but know it is unlikely!2 points

That's your opinion, just like I have mine, not sure why you feel the need to call it narrow minded. I'm not old enough to have followed speedway back in the 70/80s, so I don't know what it was like back then to compare, but it's still broadly the same sport as now. Electric speedway would be completely different. I do enjoy the noise I have to say. The smell has pretty much gone in recent years. I just enjoy that speedway is pretty much a raw motorsport and I'd rather it stayed that way. Maybe I'd change my opinion if/when it happens but I'm not sure.2 points
