  1. The aim is to have an official club launch before Christmas... the web site is good to go so once the launch happens WorkingtonComets.com will go live... still a lot to do track wise from now til Easter(ish) start meeting and we may have to start off with the site running on generators as Nor-Web aren't making any friends by dragging their heels on the installation of the new electic supply to the track... local MP Mark Jenkinson got a special mention for all the effort he was putting in to make things happen along with Allerdale Council... nice to have some friends... Entry prices and corporate package proposals are being worked on and the team manager has the team lined up and contracts will be put in front of riders very soon... AGM team build points limit depending... Supporters club and the Friends of Workington Speedway will be resurrected in some form or other... and the VIP sponsers box will be open to all... not just companies for corporate entertainment... First meeting... the track... the ground and finance were discussed in full and a dozen other issues were parked until after the NDL AGM however there is still a great deal to do before we turn a wheel at Northside.... but the will is there to make it happen and be a success... Regards T HJ

  3. His brother Kanga is doing okay too. Coming along in leaps and bounds apparently in his homeland.

  4. I don't think Doyle gets enough credit for committing to British speedway year after year, never goes missing, and rides his heart out, very classy rider. Yes I know he`s based fairly locally to Ipswich but when you think about other British riders who either cant or wont race over here its to Doyle`s credit that he does.

  5. The world number 10 was the standout rider in the Premiership in 2022 and he revealed how a press day encounter gave him some extra motivation to score well for the club. “I had a funny encounter when I first signed at Ipswich, on press and practice day one of the trackmen said to me ‘welcome to Ipswich, we didn’t really want you as a number one, we wanted Chris Holder but hopefully you can do your job!’ That sat in my mind a bit“ What a thing to say ffs! If you’re reading this and it was you you’re an absolute bellend.

  6. They will use D King as a guest from April onwards.

  7. LOL a typical response from a fan of another team that hasn’t signed him. The same always got trotted out when Leigh Adams, Jason Crump and Hans Nielsen had similar averages. Doyle is unlikely to improve that average no, but don’t pretend you wouldn’t love him leading your team. He’s outstanding in this league and your response comes across as pure jealousy. Enjoy KK.

  8. The plan is to get rid of the 9/10 point riders to make it cheaper. The same promoters who vote for that plan, then fill their teams with top heat leaders & 2.00 reserves, meaning the 4/5/6 point riders may miss out!

  9. I presume Nicholls will become Tatum's permanent partner or even better replace Ermolenko on the Eurosport coverage for the top flight stuff he'll certainly make more money out of doing that. A lot safer too

  10. Maybe if you actually went and watched some live speedway you’d see for yourself how Doyle is so easily worth that and an awful lot more!

  11. Ipswich scored 892 points in 2022. Doyle scored 327 of those... so 37% great guess

  13. when sitting down to agree admission prices you can not put your expenses first - it has to be market level first and costs have to be adjusted to accommodate that market level. Asda can't sell milk at £5 a pint, they have to compete with the others. Speedway has to compete with cinema, pizza or even going out at all. In any business control of costs is paramount otherwise its disaster for any business and speedway is no different. Controlling costs has to be the way forward, cheaper bikes, whatever, that's the big question. £22 this year, £25 next - its the road to oblivion.

  14. Nobody should pay more than £15 for a night at a speedway meeting IMO

  17. I think you’re basing your assumptions on the remarks of a few of the usual sceptics on this forum. Harris, to my mind, is still very much a class act and puts many bums on seats. Entertainment is what speedway is all about (or should be)….and he is still the king of that.

  19. Doyle is first class and remains committed to British Speedway and for that reason he’s not all about money! As he has said many times, riding British tracks (more technical than elsewhere in Europe) makes him a better rider. His fellow Aussie mates have picked up on this when you consider that next seasons Aussie GP riders will all be riding in this country. Despite his high average I think most teams would try and juggle their team building if they thought they could get him to ride for them. Think he will get a good reception when he comes to Leicester with the Witches. We’ll secretly wish he has a stinker on the night, but know it is unlikely!

  22. I’ve just read the Polish article and it is total BS.. Here is the actual statement from Discovery, make your own minds up.. https://fimspeedway.com/news/fim-speedway-dse-join-race-for-sustainable-future

  23. Sounds like the best thing to do is hold all of the GP's in Poland then

  24. This was actually a press release by Discovery, just to de bunk this, at no point did they say they would want to get rid of methanol or that the end was nigh. They said they wanted the whole SGP circus to be more sustainable, transport, logistics and the meetings themselves. They are aiming for net zero by 2040, not zero emissions. Which means they would have to contribute on some way to offset their carbon levels. They also said that methanol is one of the least polluting fossil fuels, but they can improve things further. To me, having seen the statement from source in English, it’s more to do with carbon levels associated with meetings. Flying, trucking gear around from one end of Europe to another. And can they make it work so they’re doing less miles by say making rounds happen in a logical order geographically.

  25. Think it is better to have electric speedway, than no speedway at all Quite honestly, as long as the racing is close i couldn't care less what is powering the bikes

  26. Whilst I'm all for giving the young British talent pool a fair chance, They have to want to race at this level not be forced into a situation that they are unprepared for just to tick a box. If it was made a rule would these riders be helped with an upgrade in machinery that maybe required or transport to meetings for instance In this Oxford team I worry for Luke Kileen He has had one good meeting for Oxford in the NDL but he has been off his machine many times & suffered a bad break to his leg. He may well be a nice kid with great people around him but is he ready for this big step in his speedway life? Then what will it do for his confidence & his future?

  27. if prices are whats is being said on here then its going to be the demise of speedway in this country is an amature sport pretending to be professional

  28. In all likelihood, it will be a paper exercise for accounting purposes only.

  29. Yup, track spares never seemed to be kept in great nick but they were a necessity back in the day as riders generally only had the one bike which was usually transported on a rack across the backs of their cars or on a wee trailer. The only other option, if things went wrong, was to borrow a team mate’s bike. Most riders in those days did their own mechanics too and the only other personnel involved were pushers. Speedway was also only a full time job for very few.

  30. Literally every race every meeting here he gives it his all. Not only is he a points machine but he’s hugely entertaining with it. Committed, dominant AND entertaining, what more would you want?

  31. Not sure about that - remember the diminutive Mitch Shirra struggling on a borrowed bike at Coatbridge. His feet could hardly reach the ground.

  34. Often wonder how it would be if they reveryed to all the machines were owned by the team and mechanic employed to tune and maintain them and riders contracted to race them? Might find some talented kids who could never afford machinery that that way. Oh and if a rider wants to chase individual championships he uses machines he has purchased and maintained himself.

  35. Easy solution though is don’t overpay the riders.

  38. Would have to agree there.Problem now is priorities and Speedway might suffer more than others given the shambles it became last season.

  39. Find lowering the points limit quite strange,if it was for financial reasons why just not set cap on riders Points Money, they seem to think limiting a signing on fee will solve problems so do the same with the points money( we know none of this will be adhered to anyway).Diluting the standard and expecting fans to pay the same or more Admission is not going to be the answer.Intersting what Admission prices will be at certain track this season.

  44. Things change on an hourly basis let alone daily basis with this team building lark. That’s why it’s a bit misguided and premature to confidently state that certain riders have definitely signed. Even some in rare cases find themselves out of the team even after actually signing a contract..

  45. Ya never know,,, anything is possible,,, maybe another swap between the clubs,,, you can have Danny,, we will take Holder. Holder used to love Foxhall

  46. When you consider that almost 90% of the riders also rode in the 2nd tier that would suggest that a minority of only 10% of riders could be classed as Elite. But at the end of the day its only a title to make something sound better than it is.

  50. I think how much better and professional it makes a speedway meeting/broadcast look outweighs those. Should have been compulsory long before now for all Prem & Champs teams to wear them.
