Absolutely farcical situation, not Poole's fault or Leicesters. Only in British speedway6 points
-
Just when you think it can't get any worse, along comes a decision to move the final to kings Lynn, most Leicester fans won't be able to watch their home team possible lift a trophy and Poole fans will find it even more difficult to travel to kings Lynn, even more of a Mickey mouse sport than I thought it was, but somehow I can't see the powers that be care about anything6 points

To be fair... No one could have predicted such unusually wet inclement weather in late October and early November.... I am 55 and can never remember those months being anything other than dry, sunny and warm... Perfect in other words to run finals of a summer sport... I am only amazed that you dont see more advertising of UK seaside resorts, and see more ice cream men on the streets during these months... They don't have a crystal ball do they...?5 points
-
Fully agree. Needs to be run as a 1 off final on the fairness of sport, home track advantage is a big thing in speedway.5 points
-
I mean where do you even start with this? Last season I could accept running into November as was a late start but what's the excuse this year? July and August when the weather was great was hardly a meeting and here we are in November with the biggest meeting of the championship season being run at a prem track. Not having a go at Leicester but what an absolute joke British speedway is. I've lost interest big time this season to point questioning if I'll be attending next year. Given I haven't missed a season since 1997 it's horrible to be feeling this way but will take some big changes in the winter to get me back5 points

He was going to branch out into Norfolk,,, then he realised they had too many fingers and toes to operate the machinery safely5 points

Farcical. Shouldn't even be entertaining speedway in October let alone November. Reap what you sow....4 points

I am simply lost for words. This is a low point for British speedway. The bates have said they moved us up because there business model is more suitable for the prem ..and what's that exactly? Having a track that has a drop of rain, had to be dug up and relayed, bladed, watered and god knows what else to simply not even be able to run a final. I am gutted . Speedway is my number 1 sport but this has hit a low point. The bates, BSPA and who ever else is involved should be hanging there heads in shame. I am 26 years old and missed out on the title win in 2018 for personal reasons so this Friday was a big moment for myself and the club. Now it's ruined. Well done to the pirates ! Proper run club who are in it to win and will run a meeting properly. Gutted and disappointed.4 points

But about 97 of them have just been about the weather.....4 points

I am sorry if I have misled anyone I don’t believe i have ever credited myself as track curator in fact totally the opposite I would much rather be warm in an office than driving round on a tractor. BTFC Lion is the main man on the track putting in the graft and deserves a medal for the hours that he has been putting in this season , I was simply commenting on the information that was provided to me about plans to try to get the meeting on for Friday in an attempt to reassure fans that fingers crossed this weeks rain will not damage the track as much this week.4 points
-
A shame they didn't make this sort of effort to get meetings on within the season......3 points
-
I don't think anybody is taking this seriously anymore apart from Poole fans3 points
-
Absolute joke. Should be a one off at a neutral venue not with the cheats already ridden their home leg.3 points
-
If Leicester had continued to try and get the track raceable and ultimately failed, people on here would then have been complaining saying contingency plans should have been made for the meeting to be run elsewhere. This has now happened so at least the meeting can still go ahead. I live north of Leicester and can vouch for the fact that the weather has been very heavy rain for several days and more.3 points

I haven’t seen anywhere where it’s been cancelled yet so keep December free just in case3 points
-
just need to find a volunteer to switch the light off on the way out and let this sport die as it deserves the current people responsible for this sport should be laying foundations for future generations to enjoy it, joke3 points
-
I know you don't talk about the weather much in Manchester because it's ALWAYS raining... but all this rain is a bit of a novelty for the rest of us3 points
-
Presumably Leicester aren't short of a few bob as they are wanting to go Premiership on an off race night next season?!2 points
-
This has taken the shine off completely whoever wins. Actually if Leicester win it I may be actually even more sad knowing I couldn't be there !!!! The trophy is tainted after this shambles2 points
-
Chris Holder still has his home in Dorset so it would be no surprise to see him race here again. He's stated as such. He's in the Poole pits with Jack and Brady on a regular basis. He's bound to get his average reduced as He's not in GPs and hasn't raced here for several years.2 points

Fair play to BBC South Today. Yesterday they said about the final being at Leicester on Friday. Today I didn't think they were going to mention the change of venue, but they did, right at the end of the sport section!2 points

Aren't the two promoters involved in this part of the "top table"? If so, heaven help the sport.... Fans will have spent literally millions across the country paying to watch the "qualifiers" of this competition and, now, all for what? How hard can it be to run a sport properly? Many, many others do seem to able to do so, and even do it well... Just two nights needed to run a final at their own tracks and they couldn't do it... Both had their semi final meetings done by the end of September and Instead of running the "flagship competition", other matches have taken place of a lesser level..... That isn't "being unlucky with the weather"... That is simply poor organisation... If those who run the sport don't take it seriously enough to organise and prioritise their biggest competition, then why should the fans? As for next year? Does anyone seriously think it will be any different? There does seem to always be an "insurmountable something" to overcome doesn't there...? Lets hope they run the final as a one off and they get enough fans from East Anglia who may want a "final fix" of the season to go...2 points

Against a team who rides there most weeks though!2 points

BV (especially) and Peterboro would charge big, big rentals for use of their stadia -- the clubs based there don't have any control over what has to be paid out -- presumably Buster is prepared to donate KL as a venue, to help get the season completed?2 points
-
Agree that more forceful control of fixtures needs to be imposed on clubs to ensure we are not trying to race in early winter. Forfeiting matches with 1 point per club for cancelled meetings after a cut off date. Banning testimonial meetings until after cut off dates as these should be “filler fixtures “ . Running meetings every week throughout the summer with no breaks for non speedway excuses ( local football matches , etc ) Leicester speedway clearly need to undertake and invest in some improvement works to their track drainage system before next season. Having to drive water bowsers along the already sodden track to empty the drainage sump seems a recipe for disaster.2 points

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse. That's me done with speedway.2 points

A number of people have said about the lack of organisation and control from the management. The problem is that the management are some of the promoters who will only act for the benefit of their team and not the benefit of the sport. Until there is a genuine control board who are totally independent the sport will continue to shoot itself in the foot.2 points

Well I should be shocked. Not at the obvious decision to use a different venue when the track couldn’t be fixed, but to use Kings Lynn? It’s a 5 hour 30 minute drive from Poole with one stop. Put it on a Friday with extra heavy traffic and it’s up to a 7 hour trip up. I have driven it many times in the past. Add in the price of fuel and that’s £150, plus £20 entry. Plus food. £180 for a trip up from Poole for the day. Rob is now not going and I would be surprised if there is no more than 30 Poole fans in attendance. Compared to the 300+ who would have been at the original running if it hadn’t been for the weather. But why on earth Kings Lynn? Poole fans have an easier trip to Belle Vue Manchester, at the other end of the country, then KL. We can get to BV in 4.30 mins, albeit slower on a Friday. Why wasn’t Oxford asked? Two hours from Poole, and less than that from Leicester. Oxford is closer to Leicester than Kings Lynn. Be lucky if there is 500 in attendance.2 points

How many buses running from Leicester to Kings Lynn I can see this being a disaster for the crowd levels and a bonus for BSN2 points

Guess the Jubilee meeting is out of the question now too2 points

I'm not sure you did in the slightest, more somebody else trying to inflate his own importance, unusual that!2 points

Yep... We didnt have any issue designing a track which directly faced the post 7pm sunset...2 points

Yes and I am sure we are all grateful for the information as some of us are coming a long way but I must say in fairness to the Leicester promotion we have been told before most of us have left home and grateful to Steve and Skidder for posting information on here in a effort to help which is not always accepted with good grace. I am sure we all realise and grateful for the amount of time given freely by the track men, it is often a thankless task and much appreciated by us all.2 points

Louis sounded pretty pi$sed off on Radio Suffolk today that fixtures couldn’t get done and that it’s “being investigated” right now and won’t happen again next year. Also on next season’s team, Doyle is number 1 priority unsurprisingly and he’s doing everything possible to get him back. Only other name he singled out for special praise was Danyon Hume and how pleased he’s been with his progress this year. You can pencil both those in..2 points

Mine dropped through the letterbox today, I'm 150 pages in already and can honestly say the time has gone nowhere since I opened the envelope after tea, great read so far, plenty of anecdotes and insights, a good selection of photos. I'm looking forward to reading on tomorrow. Thanks to @TonyMac and the team for getting them sent out, it's appreciated.2 points

Im not a well travelled man, unlike yourself. But my mate Google tells me...... Stadium to stadium Poole to Leicester is 196 miles (3h 28 mins via M1, M3). Or 177 miles ( 3h 30 mins via M25, M3) Stadium to stadium Poole to Lynn 220 miles ( 3h,58 mins or via M25, M3 4h02 mins) On paper that isn't much difference in time or cost..? Again stadium to stadium Leicester to Lynn 76 miles. Leicester to Oxford 80 miles. Bearing in mind Poole have had their home leg advantage, their fans have enjoyed the home leg, and Poole have made their £££££ ... And you are moaning about driving a few more miles and there might only be 30 Poole fans there.. Your only concerned about how many Poole fans will be there to cheer you on, not about the money Leicester will loose or the lack of support they might have. Ford cancelled the coaches didn't he. I know he lost some money cancelling them, but the money he must of made enough through the season with all your fans attending. Leicester can have" their" leg wherever suits them, and Poole and their fans will have to suck it up sunshine.....1 point
-
I bet there’s not many Poole fans with the same view though Ray.Ford would never agree to that.It would be great in the interest of the sport and would add some locals to boost the crowd.1 point

We managed to get the meeting on in the face of very adverse weather.1 point

It certainly can’t get any lower. You would think there had been a storm force Hurricane over the Country for the last month.Think it confirms that the construction of the track at Leicester was done on the back of a fag packet with their troubles they have had over the years.Onwards and Upwards now though.1 point

Mine has arrived but as its a Christmas present I won't be reading it until Boxing Day. For those who have read it, or are currently in the process, can you recommend any events from the book that I should pre-save in youtube so I can revert back as I go.1 point

I've been to Leicester all season, home and many away, I've purchased the BSN+ pass for the pairs and I've been encouraged to buy into the Jubilee Trophy. I've been waiting since Leicester completed their league campaign on the 24th of July, over 3 months ago, for the pay offs, I've been short changed with the pairs and the Jubilee Trophy is being treated as if it never existed! Yes, I'm feeling pretty buggered about!1 point

Poole did win in 2011. Coventry finished rock bottom. Poole finished 24 points about Coventry in 2010 but they had Shamek at reserve after some very dodgy manipulation.1 point

If these pics are recent then the track is not bladed to the base at all. There is material on there..1 point
