Other than major wholesale changes (which will never happen) the chances of attracting those fans who have drifted away, back to the fold are next to zero. The sports controllers have brought the problems on themselves and the riders look after number one and sometimes dictate whether a meeting will go ahead. The fans are bottom of the pile when it comes to being part of any thought process in terms of it being value for money or providing entertainment so that the punters go away wanting more. Where else would you maintain a scenario of having seven man teams but rarely race with seven, more like six and Mr R/R. They cannot even complete the fixtures. You have several months to fulfil the meetings but yet again here it is October and the options for completing fixtures are getting fewer thanks to the weather or the non availability of stadia and probably the doubling up which meant some meetings could not take place earlier in the season because of rider availability. The current business model does not work and those with disposal income who have been going to meetings for many years have decided it is just not worth it and over the years the promoters have failed to make it an attractive form of entertainment for a younger generation. Get rid of the BSPL and start again on an amateur basis with a five year plan to rebuild the rider base. Some stadia will fall by the wayside but it would happen anyway with the current set up and with very few if any local authorities interested in having a track on their door step the chances of new tracks appearing is fairly low. To sum up, the BSPL would have you believe the sport is in good shape. How many fans believe that one?2 points

Yes it is. I had to use this option on Glasgow streams as it seems there weren't permissions to cast. I've only got a basic cheapy phone and it couldn't cope so I had to use my wife's top end phone and even then it wasn't ideal. The beauty of using a Chromecast device is that you only need your phone to log on to BSN and start the broadcast. After you have selected the Chromecast device from your casting options, the stream goes directly from your WIFI to the Chromecast device which is plugged into an HDMI port on the TV and your phone is then basically redundant except to use as a remote control through the Google Home app. I've only got cheap equipment but it works fine even in my summer house at the bottom of the garden which only has a basic TV which isn't even smart. It just needs HDMI ports. Once you have paired the Chromecast to your WiFi on initial setup, you can just put it in any TV in the house without any further setting up. For an outlay of £20 for an older version of Chromecast and any TV with an HDMI port the jobs a good 'un. It works for me anyway. Perhaps others would like to share what works for them as it might help others that are struggling?2 points

After about 5 or 6 races at Poole if your back wheel isn't on the fence you can forget about it2 points
-
Really! Poole has plenty of lines. We get plenty of passing normally, less if it's a damp track I expect.2 points
-
That's right, it's because we don't want to serve up a 1 line track like you have at Poole2 points

Just to add - it’s been absolutely belting it down here today - tomorrow doesn’t look that great weather wise either - could well be off2 points

,,,,and there you have it - The Birmingham Brummies troll has spoken so we should all take notice - NOT!!2 points

Met Office definitely more accurate but personally I wouldn't be taking too much notice of any forecasts four or five days ahead, very likely they will change more than once by Thurs/Fri.2 points

I don't know how you can cmpare Belle Vue to Sheffield, completely different, Sheffield is a multi use stadium not owned by the club and that causes many issues with the running of the team. Slagging off the promotion doesn't help anyone.2 points

Well climate change really has so much to answer for doesnt it? I remember when I was growing up, loads of hot dry days and lovely evenings in October with the barometer often reaching the mid thirties.. Off I went to Hyde Rd each Saturday in shorts, T shirts and flip flops, looking forward to a "Senor Whippy" ice cream... (Yum Yum)... With a Flake obviously... Sometimes I had a tub instead, but they cost a bit more... Raspberry sauce too, goes without saying... Nowadays, incredibly, the back end of October has almost become like "the start of winter" hasnt it? Cold, dark, damp nights with the threat of a huge downpour seemingly always imminent, and the temperature often getting into single figures... "All of a sudden", that appears to be the norm doesnt it? When did THAT happen?2 points

Personally I believe the League Table Toppers at the end of a season are the Champions and the PO winners are just that ... the PO winners ....2 points

I wouldn't feel bad in the slightest, the promoters collectively voted in the play-offs, in the hope of some big crowds & a meaningful end to the season for clubs around mid-table. In doing so they gave up any right of the winners of the "qualifying league" to be considered unlucky if they don't win the league! Or even to be considered the "most deserving" winners. Imo if Poole finish 3rd & win the play-offs they deserve to be Champs. However I would personally prefer no play-offs & the table toppers to be crowned champions.2 points

Just to clarify this, the policy regarding how postponed fixtures are displayed hasn't changed for many years, although the presentation is slightly different this year since the new website came online prior to the start of the season. I took over responsibility for BSP website editorial a number of years ago now, and one of the things I was keen to bring in was that we would show a separate news item previewing (and subsequently reviewing) every fixture individually. (You may remember that in the very old days, the updates tended to be 2 brief news items per day, and the reason for that was the content was tailored to fit in with the space requirements of Ceefax/Teletext). It's always been the case that if a meeting is postponed, the news item is removed and there's then a separate section on that front page where the fixture is marked as POSTPONED, along with any other relevant info, which would typically be the re-arranged date if available. As mentioned above, it looks slightly different now to the past when it was simply a text box showing results, but that information is still on the front page when a meeting is postponed. The news item previewing the meeting is obviously removed, as to leave it there would cause confusion, and personally I wouldn't want to see separate news items reporting meetings being postponed, especially in a week like this! Individual clubs, of course, would be putting postponement news items on their own websites, but on the BSP site it is reported on the front page down the fixtures/results section on the side, which has always been the case. We've worked over the years to add a huge amount of information to the BSP site - items such as official meeting scorecards, Green Sheets, match-by-match averages, pics from the previous night's meetings rather than standard press day shots, to name a few, but we're always open to suggestions on ways in which it can be improved. We'll look all aspects of output over the winter and happy to receive e-mails to the press office with any feasible suggestions for what you'd like to see in the future.2 points

Very sad news from Tony Hurren (Hawkeye): GAVIN HEDGE It is with the deepest regret and sadness that I have been asked by Pam and Trevor Hedge to inform the speedway fraternity that their son Gavin passed away early this morning (Thursday) after a nine-monh battle against illness. He was 51. Gavin followed in his father's footsteps as a speedway rider and had spells with Oxford, Skegness, Isle of Wight, Peterborough, Arena-Essex, Glasgow, Reading, Mildenhall and Wimbledon. After finishing his speedway career he began his involvement in the Trevor Hedge Racing business, where he launched his own motor cycle business concentrating on tuning and repairing road bikes. Pam and Trevor request that people respect their privacy at this early time of grieving. Gavin is survived by his parents, fiancee Emma, sister Tracy, nephew Kenzie and other family members.1 point

Yep to all of that. Sob stories about riders spending a fortune on machinery get real, the sponsors partly fund that and the riders have no chance of making it big time without support from benefactors. Stadia falling by the wayside is inevitable otherwise tell us who was willing to put money Into saving Rye House, Arena Essex, Eastbourne, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Somerset, Swindon, Buxton, Stoke and many more. No one with half a brain would invest in a club or track given the current state of the sport and having a group of managers at the level of BSPL who expect you to invest on their terms and conditions without any say in how you run your business and they appear to have an attitude that says sod you in terms of how much money you piss up the wall buying into a failed business model. The BSPL do not allow open licences so that tracks could survive as was the case years back. You need an independent body to run the sport and if that goes against the grain as far as the current crop of promoters is concerned then it shows what a poor business model they have simply to satisfy the egos while pretending to have the best interest of the sport at heart. The halcyon days have long gone and what you see in this country today is a the sad demise of what was once a reasonably supported spectator sport. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and your optimism is to be admired.1 point

So you want to get rid of the BSPL and replace them with who? So you want the sport here to become amateur. And fall way behind the likes of leagues in Poland, Sweden and Denmark. It's funny that the BSPL get stick every year for watering down the product and here you want to take the ultimate watering down decision. Good luck selling that to the current riders, who have spent a lot of money on machinery. Who, out of the current riders, would be willing too ride for only expenses? Good luck getting crowds to watch amateur racing, when they've been used to professional standards. And you're okay that "some stadia will fall by the wayside"? Sounds like a plan to me...1 point

Nevermind mate, you stick to whatever team you support, or in the case not support. Which means you don't really get a say on tracks. 26 Trophies tells me we've done something right down the years. Keep sucking those mouldy grapes old son1 point

Refreshing to hear several Sheffield fans on this and other threads detailing the lack of availability at Owlerton. Shame Bates couldn’t have been more honest pre season. At least now we know it’s impossible to get all top flight competitions completed at Sheffield and second division speedway is the only option for them as it affords greater scope for rider availability. I can’t see Bates putting the league through this again even with his immense self interest, the integrity of the sport should, you’d hope be uppermost in his mind.1 point

What weather forecast are you looking at? Giving dry in Poole from midweek onwards. If Wednesdays proves damp, forecast for Thursday and Friday is dry.1 point

Scored 6 at Poole on his first visit there, don’t really think he was brought in to win the league, he was brought in to replace Justin who had dropped from the main body of the team and was struggling at reserve. In reality should’ve replaced Broc or Ricky. he stated then that he couldn’t come back this season due to Polish commitments but would be back in the future. He’s just announced that he’s left his polish club Łódz but hasn’t said where he’s going.1 point

No way Nowak was coming or will probably ever come back. Was brought in to try win the league as the polish season was done and didn’t work cause other than Ashfield he was hopeless.1 point

So based on that theory there can't be a winner of the jubilee trophy thingy as clubs signed up for a 3 team final.1 point

The only club I believe Woźniak has ride for in GB is the Lions, can't imagine he is an "asset" of any other club but could be wrong. I think Woźniak would be a strong third heat leader, maybe even second heat leader.1 point

Oxford have had a hugely successful first season. Silverware in the first season back (NLRC winner), Chargers getting to the play-offs and great crowds for both Cheetahs and Chargers. I suspect the NL crowds are around double the Championship crowds at Birmingham. That translates to a great atmosphere at Cowley, especially given the younger-than-usual crowd demographic at Oxford which sees many twenty-somethings and thirty-somethings on the terraces alongside the older fans. You'll find there's not many Oxford fans on the BSF, simply because it's all doom-and-gloom on here, and our first season since 2007 has been anything but that!1 point
