  1. Well the P.Offs (P/Ship and C/ship) so far have certainly captured my imagination. Both edge of the seat stuff. In fact I have nearly fell off my seat in the lounge at every meeting only to be woken up by me wife. Certainly the most important BSPA conference in the history of the sport will be looking to build on the great success of this season. It has been truly breathtaking and all supporters must be tyred out watching the action, anlas you are a Peterborough supporter.

  2. It's not a cool on board Scott. It's a bloody awful camera angle and crap when they go to it during the heat

  3. why wd we want the second leg when we'd be 30 or more points behind. Best just get a single figure win at home and pretend the 2nd leg isn't happening

  4. GSA figures give you facts, whether you like it or not. People now seem to want a different system that deals in feelings or whether someone had a good or bad night here or there. People are then going to argue about how the facts came about. Finishing last by being dog slow or finishing last with a puncture after leading the race for 3 laps is still 0 points from 1 ride. Is Lambert better than Fricke? when he has a good night yes, but when he has a bad night no. The system isn't perfect, but sometimes I don't know what some of you really want. It seems to me some people want something to moan about more than they want to watch 4 guys, racing 4 laps with no brakes. Half of the people on here don't even go or watch speedway these days, they seem to get their kicks by moaning on here. If that is what floats your boat, crack on. For the record, I think Lambert and Fricke are pretty even overall. At the start of the year Fricke was probably better, by the SON, they were pretty level, and at the moment Lambert is the better rider on form. You can argue all you like as to who is better, all I know is I don't mind watching either of them at full tilt on a good racetrack. Belle Vue brought him in to replace one injured GP rider with another, a couple of members of the BSPL spat their dummy out and withdrew the permission with their own self interests at heart, and neither of them were the opposition promotion at the time. Just another example of where independent governance would work better than what we have at the moment.

  5. I gave up after heat 10 and watched something else, I get Eurosport with my sky subscription , I can honestly say if I had to pay extra I wouldn’t bother. The GP,s haven’t been a lot better either, apart from one or two they have been borefests as well. The sport is on its arse at the moment and the TV coverage isn’t helping.

  6. And trying to get excited about the racing which is worse than watching paint drying. Why don’t they just say this is crap and not worthy of live television, then shut up a play background music during each race. Bore fest sums up this year’s climax to the season and the morons in charge call it entertainment

  7. My memories from early 70s until closing... Collecting hubby bubbly bottles for a penny each. Winning at white city at a Saturday afternoon meeting in the mid 70s. Going on the coach to Bradford to witness their biggest away defeat at the time...kenny carter was in his last season.. Watching hans nielsen winning by nearly half a lap for oxford My favourite swindon rider in the 80s was bo petersen...really thought they would win something with crump, nilsen and simmons The smell of the bikes and fried onions from the burger van. Watching swindon getting a 5-1 in the last heat to win at coventry Standing on a cold bank in the dark watching a tractor going around.. Some good, some bad..

  8. To be fair in the early to mid 90's both tracks served up some cracking racing.. With Aces v Wolves matches often amongst the highlights of the season at both tracks.. Then the bikes developed but the tracks didnt...

  9. Different times, British Speedway was the pinnacle of the sport. 1 off finals etc. Tight difficult tracks today get you nowhere if you want to reach the top. Zmarzlik, now 3x world champ is an absolute speed merchant, no trick track learning to be where he is. Any thought process pre 2000s is irrelevant

  10. Let's be honest British speedway signed a deal with an engine manufacturer and that worked well then signed a deal for tyres you can't use at Peterbrough as they fall apart I'm guessing we will be behind Poland under 11,s in the pecking order

  11. But they are both a long way from being their nations' top riders. Lahti and Loktaev (who may be otherwise engaged at present) must be wondering what they have to do to get noticed.

  17. Can’t see a thread about this… Looks like both sides are at full strength so going by previous meetings this season, it should be fairly close and is by no means a done deal for the Tigers. Think we will edge it, but doubt it will be a comfortable night. After a day or 2 of rain the weather forecast is dry all day according to the BBC and Alexa… so the massive downpour this morning didn’t happen and was just my imagination! All fine now with the sun peeping through and a bit of a breeze so all should be good for tonight

  18. I don't say these things lightly as I was really looking forward to watching these play offs not having had TV access for some time. I used to watch it on sky and the difference with what I saw then and what I am seeing now is unbelievable. The Sky presentation was highly professional but when I watched the meeting that was rained off, I couldn't believe how amateurish the whole presentation was, compared to Sky. The interesting thing being most of those who were involved with Sky are doing it for Eurosport!!! The actual racing wasn't much better in the meetings that ran, there seems to be a 'tired' air about it all, as though it doesn't really matter who wins this league. It's a shame because I love my speedway, but I get the impression that if you are not prepared to accept any drivel that's served up then you are not a real speedway supporter. In other words, this is the 'viscious speedway circle' leading to the ultimate demise of the sport as an option of interest to any organisation looking to get involved in real heavy duty sponsorship.

  19. Only proves how poor the fields of those meetings were. Awful rider

  20. Complete overuse of the onboard cam in ht14, it offers absolutely nothing to the entertainment, not that this meeting is providing much.

  21. Let's hope the two best teams in the league by a fair distance serve up a couple of cracking meetings..

  23. Hi Ghosty, all of the Gladiators TV streams are produced in house, not by an outside company. So the club is in complete control of all aspects of the Gladiators TV streams, including finances.

  24. Easy... The tens of thousands of lapsed fans who will come flocking back to attend every week... All of them very happy to pay 25 quid a pop... Come on. Keep up at the back... Wonder if it is another five year plan.?

  26. Kings lynn v Belle Vue should never have been postponed in the first place but someone thought it was going to rain so it was called off the day before but as it turned out there wasn't a drop of rain that day. Maybe they should stop calling off meetings the day before because they think it might rain.

  27. They say that reserves win you matches. The present Sheffield reserve pairing at home have rode together 6 times this season. Only one occasion has the opposition pairing have outscored them, interesting the only team to do was Peterborough. Those that have failed were; Belle Vue Kings Lynn twice Wolves Ipswich. Would have preferred the camera's not been at the meeting as it tends to be a longer night than usual. But I think that we will have too much for the Wolves , but it will be close.

  29. Exactly... We have to go by FACTS, not by "What ifs?" How many times have I said that? Agree 100%. As I said, the only way that averages and statistics would be anywhere close to perfect is if every rider rode to their average - which we know will never happen. Some will go up, and some will go down, and you have no idea who is going to be in which group. Welcome to life...

  30. As Briggo once said of Crashby " Was the best rider in the world at one time but didn't realise it". Visited the Marlborough Flyer at his workshop in the town about 7 years ago, probably retired now. Such a modest, quietly spoken guy.

  33. The trouble with averages and figures, they DO tell you the truth. However, they don't tell you the STORY behind the truth. Like who finished top of the 1973 British League Division 1 averages? It was Alan Emmett, with an average of 12.00... Trying to equal out team strengths by averages is great in theory. The big issue with theories is that they are just that - theories...

  34. They “failed to ride” at Plymouth because it was rained off? And does anyone actually know anything about the Jubilee Cup, or is everyone just pointing fingers? I don’t see why Glasgow wouldn’t want to win a trophy. I thought the Facennas were desperate to buy anything at all costs? That’s the usual insinuation.

  38. When Lockdown was eased and you could venture further afield I wished to visit the local Arboretum only to find that you had to book in advance...an Arboretum of all places where social distancing wasn't an issue. When I went on line to book reluctantly (who would want to book in advance not knowing what the weather might be like?) only to find that there was a £1-50 booking fee...Sod that I said and didn't pursue with the booking out of priciple.

  42. Hopefully the NDL playoffs on BSN will be well supported, the service has been a breath of fresh air for an nomad fan like myself. Hopefully will see you covering a meeting at Northside, Workington next season!

  43. Yeah it would make sense start off small and build it up, run in the NDL and make money on track hire, other events etc. However, looks like there could be as few as 7 in the championship next year IF Glasgow were to have a go in the Premiership. I’m sure if that was the case the BSPL would be asking the possibility of Workington joining the Championship. Afternoon racing in the NDL, with trackdays, the British youth championship and a few Open meetings with star names is probably along the lines of what will happen in 2023.

  44. Would you have confidence that Lambert would come back here and give it 100% in every meeting like Jason Doyle does? I wouldn’t. And that’s pretty shocking to say because one is a Brit and one is an Aussie but there you go. Doyle is worth more to a Premiership club than Lambert. If Lambert does commit to a full season here and you back him to have a better season than Doyle with actual money, you’ll lose it.

  46. As Skidder said it's not the spectator singing that was the issue it was the recorded version that was broadcast - if they didn't have the correct version then an instrumental version would have been the better option (and it's nothing to do with "nit picking" either).
