Disagree otherwise you'll have teams bringing in the Harlem Globetrotters who can't be asked to ride over here just for the play offs and that is wrong. If the best riders want to rider here, brilliant but sign up at the start of the season and not when they just want a pay day.9 points

That’s a great post. All spot on. I heard the news on Wednesday and it’s all so expected and all so disappointing and predictable. The sad thing is like Coventry, down to greed from stadium owners. The club, like Coventry, was profitable with good crowds and a decent atmosphere. I shall certainly miss my trips up to Blunsdon, like Brandon, with the banter and rivalry. Gutted for the fans.7 points

Such a move would not comply with the Speedway Regulations (SR10.3.1)6 points

Which rather begs the question why Belle Vue even tried to bring him in. Are you suggesting Mark Lemon doesn’t know or understand the Speedway Regulations.5 points

While i realise it could be very dangerous posting this on here. Id like you to watch video first before commenting about there is no noise no smell its not speedway. Yes it isnt the same and probably never will be , however its hard to get away from all the positive notes i bring to the table with this video. I posted a scene on tiktok a platform where the age is 15-25 most used and got nearly 100k views! this is the same crowd we are missing right now in speedway. Dont think of it as a replacement this of it as a addition for people to get into speedway and hopefully it will make more riders, Have a watch anyway then give your opinions you can put NS for noise and smell if you want but then i want you to put one positive comment that youve seen and has maybe opened your eyes a little bit.4 points

I hope they switch Monday's meeting to Wolverhampton as us Witches fans suffered enough last night.4 points

I think if a final is to be rerun, then the riders should start in a staggered order. The rider leading should start 5 metres in front if second who starts 5 metres in front of third. A rerun rarely sees the same rider order coming off the second bend. The leading rider in the first running often loses out. Unfair.3 points

Good win for the Aces last night, and would imagine that they should make the Play Off Final, as there home performances having and I would say that they are the team to beat. Ipswich team totally capitulated last night and face what looks like an impossible task of pulling off the aggregated win. But they look like they will win the Pairs, which will just reward for Jason Doyle who has been the standout rider in the League.3 points

Good news as Sunday is far better weather and it doesn’t clash with the big match of Swindon v Northampton.3 points

Can see both sides of this. Would have been great to have Robert here for four play off meetings but @NeilWatson has stated its against the regs and if so then for once the berks who run British Speedway have stuck to the rulebook and resisted special dispensation. Would also suggest that Lambert's annoyance about his flights should be towards BV if they advised him to book them without permission to ride.3 points

For anyone wanting to start out, it seems ideal without the huge ongoing costs. If you had enough people using the bikes, it could be a good addition to a meeting and perhaps that is what speedway needs, the main event with other disciplines alongside. Fortnightly meetings that are more a festival rather than just fifteen heats and then get on your way. As it stands speedway in the U.K. needs to try something new and innovative or simply die a slow death as is the case for the top tier of the sport. A meeting should be an event not an endurance test for the punters.3 points

A regulation that largely exists because Aces fans kicked up such a fuss about Wolves late season signing of Woffinden. [2016]3 points

i think that this is the way to go it will open up more venues and potentially some indoor venues lets hope that this succeeds, and speedway might then have a long-term future, especially if they can sort out some form of artificial surface to race on so that temporary venues could be used3 points

Not sure why anyone would go to the expense of making kevlars for a rider that Belle Vue were never going to be allowed to use. Quire rightly the BSPL stopped this move3 points
-
A shame the thread has been hijacked by the brainless troll Yes it was a terrible night for the Witches but the majority was self inflicted The Aces though dug in and showed much greater resolve to arrest a shocking start and claw themselves back in before finishing the job with a clinical performance Fully deserving winners3 points

Found this nice drone footage someone has taken in August on YouTube, really shows off the track and it's surronding area... The BSPL AGM will be fast approaching with the NL AGM to follow later on I think, may hear some more news soon.3 points

The sad thing is that it could just add another dimension to the racing but the dinosaurs who are in charge really fail to get to grips with the mood of the punters and prefer a ‘take it or leave it’ scenario. Maybe this is the opportunity to start an alternative league to replace the NFL and let those at the Isle of Wight take the initiative and run it thereby offering something different on a U k wide basis. Machines that do not inflict noise pollution and riders who have a level platform in terms of bikes and hence rider skills may come to the fore. It may seem odd but I would prefer to watch Riders on machines that rely on the skills of the racer rather than the power of the machines used by the gate and fly merchants who hang on for dear life to a powerful bike that most have trouble controlling and races/heats that are processional because it all depends on who has the deepest pockets to throw cash at the machine to make it goes faster. Put those guys on a level playing field and let’s see just how good some of the rides really are. it will not sit well with many but the sport needs so much change to survive and something like this offers a faint glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel rather than a train coming the opposite way. BSPL please wake up and anyone who cannot face up to the issues should walk away now.2 points

Never work... The BSP would not be able to source enough extention leads long enough... And even if they did, they would inevitably all get tangled up by the end of lap four.... No doubt it is the future, so no doubt the BSP won't do anything with it... The real opportunity is to source 8 per team and just run then with box standard kit... Move the sport back to ground zero and start again afresh.... Would give a whole new meaning to "Ohm" advantage. ... I'll get me coat....2 points

Rain due to clear by 2pm and dry thereafter. If the meeting does not go ahead today it will NOT take place tomorrow as we do not have the appropriate medical cover available.2 points

Thanks for that. I cannot understand why anyone would want to leave negative comments. I really appreciate what is being done here. Engine noise certainly doesn’t mix within communities, hence all the opposition to speedway tracks. New tracks just don’t get approval anywhere near houses, and what we have all seen at Swindon where a community was virtually built on top of a track…it was easily seen by all that the speedway racing was going to disappear, and it has. These machine give access to younger ones, give them a start to into speedway, at relatively low cost, the power can be increase easily by software on a mobile phone, so gradual increases are available at any time without large cost increases in changing engine. Great for the times we are living in, and I can’t wait to see how it all develops.2 points

RIP Swindon Speedway, yet another added to a long line of Tracks being developed, but with GI as owners of the Stadium this was always going to happen.2 points

Always a few comments about Poole track being a gate and go with no passing but watched " Elite " league play off last night and almost no passing pretty much gate and go.As for Poole's demolition of Glasgow you have to say the Ford's always build good teams yes we've been lucky with no injuries but when it matters the team deliver.2 points

That in a nutshell sums up ALL that is wrong with BSPL and British Speedway. Belle Vue bought him over, presumably made him an asset, invested in him, as dod local sponsors etc. He then sought to further his delelopment elsewhere outside the UK whilst remaining loyal to BV as an asset. IF BV want to bring him back then he should be on his perfectly correct and earned average. That's life, that's sport, that should be speedway. NOT factor it by a mystery number drawn up on the back of a Scunthorpe Rain Off Ticket to appease Bates and Louis or anyone else. The whole point of the asset system is to build talent isn't it? If it gives BV an advantage, so what, may be it will make a few others a bit less lazy and try to make things happen rather than moan when nothing good happens to them. This is what INDEPENDENT GOVERNANCE would bring. Fairness for ALL, and reward for enterprise.2 points

I’d be very surprised if there wasn’t a rule change re Jaimon as even though he’s only missed two seasons his low average for Belle Vue will not go down well with BSPL bosses. Imagine us trying to sign the world champion on a 7.00, that would never happen, especially if it was just for the play offs.2 points

Fait point.... As he hasn't rode over here for 3 years he really ought to be downgraded to a 4 point assessed man... Only if he signs for the Aces obviously.....2 points

I still don't understand where misfortune contributed any significant difference to a comfortable home defeat? Edit: just saw your list of "reasons". Tungate fell under pressure, but I don't think Zagar was at fault (neither did Nicholls). King was awful, and failed completely twice on the third/fourth bend - that's not misfortune, that's poor riding. Summers *might* have done a bit better in Heat 8 - maybe the ref should have stopped the race and excluded Rowe - so no better than a 3-3. Heat 9 - no idea if the red lights came on or not - there didn't seem to be any protests. It was a strong performance by Belle Vue who learned quickly, and outfought, and outthought the Witches, winning heats 2 to 15 by a score of 29-49 ...2 points

Congratulations t Belle vue. Deserved their win and look likely league champions.2 points

Not only did he get (and regularly gets) riders names wrong, did anyone else hear him after the break following heat 4. He said: "welcome back the score here is 14 - 10 with the Aces 3 points behind." Honestly not only is the guy an embarrassment to himself and Eurosport, but it's criminal that's he's getting paid for it! His hairdo ain't doing him any favours either, unless he's had it done as an attempt to distract people from actually listening to him!2 points

The road as at present is closed in both directions about a quarter of a mile from both directions of the stadium. The road Penistone Road that the stadium situated is a main road into Sheffield and travelling in Sheffield today especially those of us live in the Sheffield 6 area as is the stadium has been a nightmare whether its by car or bus. There is a good reasons why police shut the road of nature, the last thing they need is large number of cars coming in and out of a stadium. On this occasions I think everyone has to accept that the reasons for cancelling the meeting are out of the control of the promotion.2 points

Have a look at Ventura Raceway in California. Used to be tag lined as 'Commotion By The Ocean'. When I went in the 80's and 90's you parked on sand dunes looking out onto the Pacific. The 'Beach Bikini Competitions' at the interval would get a good crowd of non speedway fans attending! Not sure if it would be warm enough to stage them at Northside though!!!2 points

Like everyone on here, I’m saddened to hear the news about Swindon Speedway. Personally I have been going since around 1971, with the odd break for a few years, and then returning like so many others. I caught the final season of Barry Briggs. I was totally hooked. The smell, the shale that in those days peppered you if you stood anywhere near the corners, and the noise! No silencers, or deflectors! In those days it was every Saturday night too The crowds were huge. I remember at least 4 double decker buses arriving to ferry people back to Swindon after the meeting. The car park was always packed. The atmosphere terrific. I’m told in those days the crowd was consistently over 3k and on occasions rivalled Swindon Town for the biggest crowds. The seventies, despite the crowds, were a difficult time for the Robins. The trophy cupboard was bare. But the racing was excellent. Martin Ashby was the master at Blunsdon. His last bend passes were exhilarating. His gating exasperating! Bob Kilby was the complete opposite at the gate. Reflexes and anticipation like lightening. Sadly, this skill is rarely seen, or allowed by referees these days. Geoff Bouchard proved one the best signings of the 70’s...a real trier and a thrilling rider to watch. I missed most of the 80’s and 90’s, but the desire to see Leigh Adams every Thursday did the trick. Adams was absolute mustard to watch. His team riding was second to none. I saw him nurse the likes of David Rudd, Travis McGowan, James Wright around Blunsdon in majestic style. His heat 15 riding with Zagar was up there with the best. Then came the title winning seasons. The crowds remained very decent, the racing, in my opinion started to decline on a somewhat tired track. The reshape certainly helped, and in the final season, once the track bedded in, there were some superb meetings. Speedway at Swindon was my life as a teenager. Every Saturday night, regular away trips on the coach. Often there were 2 or 3 coaches at an away match. When I left the stadium after that last meeting, having won the title, I drove home to my home ( now in Cornwall) and didn’t dream for one minute, it would be the last time I watched Speedway at Blunsdon. Most people on here have said what I think about the management and it’s treatment of the supporters and indeed many predicted the stadium would never be built I perhaps naively, thought it would be I had some great times at Blunsdon, met some great people and even introduced “Everyone’s friend” Steve Shovlar to the sport! A sort of claim to fame! RIP Swindon Speedway. EnglishRoundabout.2 points
