Like everyone on here, I’m saddened to hear the news about Swindon Speedway. Personally I have been going since around 1971, with the odd break for a few years, and then returning like so many others. I caught the final season of Barry Briggs. I was totally hooked. The smell, the shale that in those days peppered you if you stood anywhere near the corners, and the noise! No silencers, or deflectors! In those days it was every Saturday night too The crowds were huge. I remember at least 4 double decker buses arriving to ferry people back to Swindon after the meeting. The car park was always packed. The atmosphere terrific. I’m told in those days the crowd was consistently over 3k and on occasions rivalled Swindon Town for the biggest crowds. The seventies, despite the crowds, were a difficult time for the Robins. The trophy cupboard was bare. But the racing was excellent. Martin Ashby was the master at Blunsdon. His last bend passes were exhilarating. His gating exasperating! Bob Kilby was the complete opposite at the gate. Reflexes and anticipation like lightening. Sadly, this skill is rarely seen, or allowed by referees these days. Geoff Bouchard proved one the best signings of the 70’s...a real trier and a thrilling rider to watch. I missed most of the 80’s and 90’s, but the desire to see Leigh Adams every Thursday did the trick. Adams was absolute mustard to watch. His team riding was second to none. I saw him nurse the likes of David Rudd, Travis McGowan, James Wright around Blunsdon in majestic style. His heat 15 riding with Zagar was up there with the best. Then came the title winning seasons. The crowds remained very decent, the racing, in my opinion started to decline on a somewhat tired track. The reshape certainly helped, and in the final season, once the track bedded in, there were some superb meetings. Speedway at Swindon was my life as a teenager. Every Saturday night, regular away trips on the coach. Often there were 2 or 3 coaches at an away match. When I left the stadium after that last meeting, having won the title, I drove home to my home ( now in Cornwall) and didn’t dream for one minute, it would be the last time I watched Speedway at Blunsdon. Most people on here have said what I think about the management and it’s treatment of the supporters and indeed many predicted the stadium would never be built I perhaps naively, thought it would be I had some great times at Blunsdon, met some great people and even introduced “Everyone’s friend” Steve Shovlar to the sport! A sort of claim to fame! RIP Swindon Speedway. EnglishRoundabout.6 points

A different level... No Zagar, No Kurtz, No Doyle when he rides in the lower tier to take points off him.. A good, honest 100% GB rider... But he has a level...5 points

Tungate played for the foul and got exactly what he deserved.5 points

Not only did he get (and regularly gets) riders names wrong, did anyone else hear him after the break following heat 4. He said: "welcome back the score here is 14 - 10 with the Aces 3 points behind." Honestly not only is the guy an embarrassment to himself and Eurosport, but it's criminal that's he's getting paid for it! His hairdo ain't doing him any favours either, unless he's had it done as an attempt to distract people from actually listening to him!4 points

Loved his pronunciation of the Premiership, just got the score wrong and called Brady Kurtz Bradley, the blokes an utter plonker4 points

Had a horrific week, turned this on for some relaxation and Ermobollox is fronting the bloody programme4 points

He's literally riding in the Premiership and abroad, in Poland already. What are you jabbering about now?4 points

Always makes me chuckles this when you get pumped. It’s the standard response now since the new regime have brainwashed some of you. “yeah they racing was bad, least we see proper racing at our place”. You weren’t competitive for there to be any passing as you were that far behind from the second the tapes went up.4 points
-
With all due respect we’re not talking about the GP’s are we? Before the season started on the predictions thread, plenty said Doyle would be eclipsed this year by Fricke and Holder and would be demoted to third best Aussie. That went well.. He hasn’t missed a meeting all season, the effort he’s put in to every meeting and every ride has been clearly visible, dominant and entertaining. Been a privilege to watch him this year and if finance allows and he wants to return, should be the first name on the team sheet regardless of his high average.4 points

He was scoring big points at Championship level whilst at Eastbourne. As for last night you could have picked any of the other Six on last nights performances. But you decide to pick an upcoming British youngster Strange.3 points

The track wasn’t wet last night and my own personal opinion is if you think there were many passes you must be easily pleased. Only my opinion of course as you have yours.3 points

Tungate tried it on, even Kelvin thought so and Bates certainly did.3 points

The Premiership is a joke. Nothing against the teams, it’s just embarrassing there’s only six of them.3 points

Thats the most stupid comment I've read in ages. Go and do some research. Brennan rode Eastbourne all his career and until joining BV last season was crying out for big track experience and bike set up experience to ensure he continues to progress. His move to Glasgow merely aided that development. He's probably the best technical small track rider in Britain, certainly he needs more European track experience but small tracks you're having a laugh.3 points
-
No you said he's not good enough to ride in the Premiership or abroad when he's literally doing that already. It's not a question of your opinion, it's a fact. Do keep up.3 points

Looks like someone is telling 'porkies pies' then? 'Swindon Motorsports' directors need to speak to each other. Otherwise their 'honesty and integrity' could be severely harmed.3 points

I thought Adam did really well on comms - not just last night either!! I did feel for Lee Kilby when Swindon's demise was brought up. Poor bloke couldn't hide his heartfelt emotion. As for all the insults that Lee and Rosco have been suffering its just not on, Neither are 'on the board' or had any influence on the latest outcomes. Shame3 points

I’m not sure any rider takes serioudiy being booed when being. They know that almost invariably, it’s a bit of fun and neither the rider nor the spectators are upset by it. If the riders are, they’re in the wrong job. There is a big gulf between genuine banter and abuse - being booed on the parade is not abuse.3 points
-
Exactly. I don't blame Rosco and Lee Kilby one bit for what has happened to date. But I don't get why they have put their names to this new joke company. They are 100% Swindon and can surely see this lot are full of BS.3 points

We're in to the nitty gritty of the season now and one aspect of Team Building starts to show through. It's an aspect that Poole + Leicester (to a slightly lesser degree) have in common. Look at the Poole team, 3 heat leaders whose career bread and butter has been UK speedway. No pretentions (especially at this stage of their career) of doing anything else than to get in to play offs and elongating their income drawing periods for another season. Two Aussies who t the best of my knowledge don't ride any where else. Ablitt trying to transitions up and only one with any pretentions of cracking Europe, and surprise surprise, he's the weakest link. Leicester and not dis-similar certainly the other Worrall, Howarth, Thompsons and Mountain. Comments a few times lately about Brennan and his attitude. Is he trying to run before he can walk, Undoubtedly the lads got ability, bags of it but s his head being turned by the bright lights of Poland and Europe. You can have all the ability in the world but if your attitude sucks, its a slippery slope. Obviously he and Basso want to do well in SGP2 and U23 Team Events but Glasgow pay their wages and I'd make the point that unlike a far more focussed Poole team last night, did Brennan and Basso actually put in 100% like at least 6 of the Poole team did? That's the difference at the business end! of the season.3 points

But surely if the track is any worse than it was on Sunday and they ride, the ‘rider safety’ excuse goes out the window?3 points

Found this nice drone footage someone has taken in August on YouTube, really shows off the track and it's surronding area... The BSPL AGM will be fast approaching with the NL AGM to follow later on I think, may hear some more news soon.3 points

So the dogs are not closing...? Meaning the track will be viable...? So the Speedway can run....? As Jim from Friday Night Dinner may have said. .. "Confuuuuuused"!!!!.... The other question of course is that even if the dogs were closing, (which they now 100%, no chance, err err, no sureee, never on my watch, are now doing)... How do the many non dog track stadiums that run Speedway keep it viable and Swindon (with a bigger than most fanbase) couldn't? Must have been some serious crossed wires when they launched this new company mustn't there?2 points

.....And he rides abroad in Poland. Blobby is denying facts, to suit his own anti Glasgow agenda.2 points

Way back when the Sky broadcasted the Elite league, in a deal by Terrry Russell, I was told that TR took a sizeable slice of the Sky money. Along with this, he took 20% of all the advertising revenue from every track, as well as pulling all the strings with his violin brigade. It is no accident that nearly every club he has been associated with has gone to the dogs (forgive the pun). Speedway is much the worse because of people like him. The chap who told me was a very knowledgeable fellow, who has supported Speedway in general, and BV in particular, for a very long time and was in the know so to speak. He walked away from our great sport because of this and has not been back since. He told me then TR would suck British Speedway’s blood and was not to be trusted.I t seems he was right. I feel saddened at the plight Swindon find themselves in, as I lived in Swindon for a few years back in the seventies, and hope that something can be sorted on a permanent basis securing the clubs future.2 points

The problem is with him is that you get all talk and no action. But I will say one thing, he has made a dig at GI which is something the club didn't do. In answer to your question above, I feel totally let down by the club. They appear to have rolled over for GI and the formation of this new company yesterday is a p*ss take. I've got no issue with the lack of communication over the last 3 years as there was nothing going on. The silence of the last month though is a disgrace. I'd imagine we still wouldn't know if it hadn't have been posted on here.2 points

The whole situation regarding wet tracks and speedway is completely out of hand. The Refs have no control,it’s simply Health and and Safety rules. We have situations like “ it’s rideable not raceable” were thinking of the fans, that’s a lot of “bullsh#t.The riders know the meeting will have to be re-run. In Testimonials and Open Meetings they are willing to ride round on tracks that’s not raceable just too collect the money knowing it will probably NOT be re-run. Speedway is a dangerous sport whether the track is wet or dry. Excuses not to ride are running out weather or track used all the time.Fans are getting fed up .IMO. The fans that say we want see decent racing usually get “Gate And Go “racing in UK,on dry tracks and covered in dust, but Hey the riders are Happy. PS The throttle works both ways, that doesn’t seem to be the case nowadays though.2 points

Anyone that has paid any attention to the league this year, will know full well the home advantage Belle Vue have. And to think people said that Belle Vue was such a “fair track” and that there was little to none home advantage. LOL. How many 60+ scores have you had at home Phil? And yet without looking at the stats, I’m guessing your away record is one of if not THE worst in the top 4?? That tells you everything you need to know about your home advantage. Keep in within 20 at Foxhall and you’ll still be favourites to progress. Why do you constantly keep doing this as if the Witches are some sh!te team that finished bottom? Despite on Eurosport Monday night with Stead, Tatum, and the other presenters claiming every 5 minutes that they had “won the league”, “finished top” etc etc, they’ve done no such thing! Now if Sheffield beat Ipswich in Ipswich’ last remaining fixture then they’ll have achieved that. But that’s not yet settled is it. You’re doing Ipswich a disservice, good side as the table suggests, (joint top on points), but the home advantage Belle Vue have will see them through to the final.2 points

Sad to see this confirmed although clearly it's been obvious it would happen for years. Poor statement, the vague mention of a new stadium just seems to be another way of stringing along the fans. Also unacceptable that they've been sat on this news for a month and only acted now because it was brought up on here.2 points

A rusty side away from home against a bang in form team with all 7 fit and well on home shale, always going to be a home win , nobody i spose thought it would be so one sided2 points

Have you been to any actual Devils meetings @ Armadale this year? If you had, you would be aware that they have been sparsely attended. So, to expect the Edinburgh Promotion to run a team @ Ashfield next Season imo would be financial suicide. When the Edinburgh Promotion ran as the Scottish Monarchs from Shawfield in 1996, as the only Speedway track in Scotland that year, it was admitted that it nearly bankrupted them. If there is to be a NDL team competing @ Ashfield in 2023, then surely it will be run by Glasgow themselves, and it ain't going to be called the Dale Devils! For the Monarchs to return at some future date as "Edinburgh Monarchs" I reckon it would have to be at a location nearer the Capital, not further away, to attract viable attendances to support its existence.2 points
