The weather forecast for Saturday in Glasgow looks like mild-heavy rain from 12noon to 4pm. I can quite easily see it being cancelled and the season will probably continue into November at this rate. When i think back to the last 7 weeks of great weather and all those speedway-less Fridays at Ashfield i am more than a little annoyed by what's happened this season. Heads should roll at the BSPA.5 points

They say bs baffles brains, not in this case, we all knew once a new stadium was muted it was code for more houses, they were allowed right up to the pits, no buffer zone or green space between. Our so called mp and promoters have been a disgrace with their lies and silence, I would rather hear unpalatable truth than their bs. Anyway I still have my memories of hundreds of great nights at the Abbey, first started going as a kid in the 70's and after a hiatus having moved away started going again in middle 80's on. My mate who was Jimmy Nilsson's mechanic reigniting my interest. Leigh was also my favourite rider. I fear for Speedway in this country, those in charge sleepwalking from season to season watching clubs fold, leagues down to six teams and interest waning.5 points

Never known a club whose supporters are so obsessed with rain and have such glee in discussing it. (acknowledgement of plaigirisation. Mr Marko)4 points

To be honest, I expect that if you hadn't posted it then it still wouldn't have made its way into the public domain. Because you put that here, they had no choice but to announce it. I'm assuming that the snippet that you posted was from 30 August judging by the numbers at the top. That's a week before they started moving the crates out of the car park and saying that reports of the end of Greyhound Racing at the Abbey were not true. Once you made that post and people became aware of it, they had to make the announcement. It's quite shocking that we had to hear it from you rather than anyone involved with speedway - either the club or the BSPA.4 points

The fact no one has slated gaming or the council for shafting us says a lot to me.4 points

Possibly, although Louis said last winter that the idea was to loan him out for a couple of years not the one. Has to be some concern with the lack of progress as well. The thought was he needed a move from Ipswich as riding his home town track was putting too much pressure on him. If anything, he’s moved away and gotten worse!4 points

You have been slated for years because you dared not to be swayed by the b………. .I knew it in my heart this was happening but the funny thing is it still is a huge shock hard to except. The Abbey has been a huge part of my life and no one can take away the great memories i won’t be going to anymore live speedway my heart is not in it anymore.I hope the sport goes on to prosper but i think not my yesteryear collection will be my main passion now.4 points

Why is it shocking ? How long have you been around speedway ? The bspl and it’s members dont give a damn about fans, the sport in this country is where it is because of crap like this, fans are the be all of the sport and are treated like dog dirt, the way the Swindon fans have been treated since they closed is disgusting3 points
-
Spot on. If the sport had a bigger fan base & a higher profile then some of these tracks wouldn't have closed & there would have been more of a fight to keeps the ones that have opened or relocated elsewhere. When you're a developer who wants to build on a site used by a few hundred people for half a year that are involved in an event that has no profile it's very easy to get what you want.3 points

Probably a smoke screen. £4 share capital and two of the four have 33 other directorships between them. Interesting that it was set up today and probably cost no more than £100 to establish the company. So sell out to Gaming International, make a few bob on the side and pretend to be interested in building a new arena elsewhere when in reality they could/should have looked at this year’s back. Another historic venue and club sold down the line by a few spivs. Would you trust any of those four to do the right thing? It will be interesting to read what the local MP’s take is on this news. You can hear it now how he did everything he could etc. Some dodgy dealings gone on here and no one will ever find out who got what. How many more clubs will the sport lose? Where was the top table of this prominent sport of speedway while all this was going on? They are another bunch who you cannot trust, they cannot even get fixtures completed in summer months let alone oversee the sport in the U.K. for the benefit of all, Too much self interest. Today this is a loss for the whole of speedway.3 points

Leigh Adams for me as well..I called him Mr Clean and the name stuck a bit..The safest rider I've ever seen nearly always in control..But what I am really liked is that thou he was riding all over the world but come Thursday night him and his bikes were immaculate. .what a pro.3 points

Without sounding to unkind, don't think there's any chance he will remain at Wolves next season..3 points

I was one of the ones who knew it would never happen and never believed a word of BS from Tomlinson or GI. But I wish I had been wrong. It's clearly the end of speedway in Swindon forever, we've been shafted by everyone. The thing annoying me the most now is the lies from the usual suspects after that 30.08.22 meeting and the complete silence from the club. At least have the nerve to front up now. If Gaming have shut down the dogs to force the speedway to close then say it how it is. Nothing to lose now by speaking the truth about them. Most of us knew it all along anyway. SBC will now focus their attention on getting the Oasis dome de-listed so their partner can build some resi flats. Complete and utter scumbags.3 points

Russell has always been a bit of a wideboy. I imagine his interest in the sport fizzled out when his cut of Sky money stopped. Doubt he's even interested in reviving Swindon anymore. The worst out of all of this is Rossiter and Kilby. These are supposedly Swindon through and through and have backed the bullsh1t and lies for many years and even had a pop at the fans for questioning GI and the new stadium. Rosco sitting on bikes with plans and telling everyone it will happen was pathetic You could see it wasn't happening from a mile off but Rosco wouldn't have it. He's happy to get front and centre when a trophy is being lifted but he has been very quiet lately.3 points

After all that nonsense spouted from the Dorset area and of course West Lothian . Hope that fires up our boys to go down there and run them close tonight . C'mon the stripes .3 points

Its not aggressive at all. You were fighting a campaign that you would always win because GI wanted the stadium completely gone. We never had a chance of saving speedway.2 points

Anyone involved in Speedway knows that Osbourne and his company have no interest whatsoever in building a stadium for Speedway or for anything else. So in my eyes the fact that TR is claiming to be be doing just that with them proves it is purely lip service. An insult to any fan of any club that has ever suffered at Osbourne's hands. A few years ago I was contacted by a Torquay United fan who was worried about GI's promises of a new out of town stadium, as he had seen their track record. I told him the most important thing their fan club could do was to convince the council not to be fooled by Osbourne's lies. The fact that these councils continue to do so absolutely astounds me. Do they never research who they are dealing with? I guess the truth is they no more honourable than he is.2 points

I don't think they are allowed to change the advertised start time - certainly would be an unwelcome thing to do on the day of the meeting. Edit: just checked the Regulations - the Meeting Steward has to be present 2 hours before, and riders 1 hour before (other officials at different times). Changing the start would have an impact on so many people - mostly volunteers, who have other jobs, as well as riders and, most importantly, paying customers.2 points

Speedway teams relying on greyhound racing have no future. Far better for speedway to decouple from greyhound racing especially as Dogs Trust, the RSPCA and the Blue Cross did a joint press release yesterday calling for a nationwide ban on greyhound racing within five years. (This has been some time coming.) I found the snippet from the minutes of the BSPA meeting in the Twitter feed of a greyhound trainer in Ireland. I was surprised the news hadn’t made its way into the public domain already. I hope the speedway team manages to find another venue although I saw above that the company mentioned in the press release had only been set up today and it has Clark Osborne as a director. If that‘s true, then I don’t hold out much hope for it as anything that Osborne is involved with turns to houses. He is a director of tens of companies and most of them seem to be dormant. Perhaps the fans need to take control and approach the council for help? It was the council who stipulated that the site couldn’t be redeveloped until the stadium was refurbished and they have not held GI to this condition. The Dogs Trust press release is here: https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/how-we-help/the-future/cut-the-chase Pleaae do not (metaphorically) throw rotten veg at me. Our group always supported the speedway team but not the greyhound racing.2 points

I just looked at their website. Wow f*cking wee. What a p*ss take that is. Lists the clubs Osborne was involved in and they all are defunct!!! Some absolute comedy there on a bad day.2 points

Its so obvious now that Gaming will close the dogs and blame the speedway going for it. Then they will quickly get that change of planning permission in and just like that a 15 year old plan will finally be realised.2 points

Such sad news to lose Swindon, great local Derby’s in the past and always made the trip up. Massive loss to the sport! With my Poole hat on - Gaming International playing games again, will this be Poole in 12 months time? Hope Swindon find a new home and fast.2 points

What a shocking statement from the club..The history of club is just worth half a page. NO sorry so empathy .No comment from Rosco or Lee.i see he's changed from the dogs closing to long term future..Quite clearly it's all load of lies .why has he not given the chance for the fans to raise money to etc keep it going...The bottom line he sold out to Gaming for money. What a complete scumbag ..2 points

I could never support an Oxford team in any sport but I do hope the success story carries on for years to come!. Too many teams being lost and not enough coming back. Dread to think how it will look in 5 years time.2 points

You should, Oxford's return has been (largely) a roaring sucess and my transition to Cheetahs fan is going smoothly. Although I'm sure for both of us we'll always be Racer/Robin at heart.2 points

Do me a favour. He has been fine in CL. His average has gone up nearly 2 points. He has pushed both Cook's down to reserve at different times this season and hasn't gone back there himself. Not sure what you were expecting tbh! Anyway back to Wolves...2 points

Total drivel, this match will take place when the weather allows it,as fans we don't want to see a late call off and all the expenses incurred by our promotion as we can ill afford that to happen. Do you actually have any idea how this all works or are you allowed a bit of time on the bsf when you've finished your homework.2 points
