  1. Let’s face it as a so-called Professional Sport it is shambles and nothing short of embarrassing at times. No chance of attracting new fans and keeping them.

  2. Having been at the track last night, I can confirm that every effort was made to get this meeting on. Several tractors working hard on the track to try and get it in a fight state. The biggest disappointment of them all is for the riders, staff and the excellent crowd that was building for this huge meeting. Mark and his track staff did everything they could but it wasn’t to be. Whilst I understand everyone’s frustrations, British Speedway doesn’t need infighting, it needs supporting and offering views such as banning Plymouth or fining them does nothing to help that. It is unfortunate how the evening played out. I accept it is not a good look to those turning up for perhaps their first meeting etc but sadly this was the hand that was dealt to us Gladiators last night

  3. So what do you suggest gets done because it cant just be nothing… attitudes like yours are what helps drive Speedway into the ground! Why would any of the fans there last night return? Surely thats of far more value than Plymouth being properly punished

  4. Having a Scottish ref in a meeting involving a Scottish team is no stranger than having an English ref in a meeting involving an English team. Some people come up with the weirdest nonsense.

  5. It's funny because the BSN crew spent about half an hour telling us how good it was going to be! It's madness... you have 1 club calling a meeting off over 24 hours before it was due to start based on an incorrect forecast and another who let all the fans in and call it off without a race being run! All in the space of 48 hours

  6. Excellent win by Sam Masters especially given how beat up he is at the moment then winning after the big smash with Douglas tonight. Congratulations Sam Sam & Nick Morris compare war wounds before the meeting......

  8. Nasty crash in final. Been a cracking meeting in front of a good sized crowd. Some very tough and aggressive first bends. Great nights entertainment. Delay in final as the first bend is demolished.

  9. My first experience of watching a live stream from BSN and I'm very impressed. Great camera work and commentary with top notch graphics. This is as good as any TV coverage so congratulations to all involved with this broadcast.

  10. Club director Peter Facenna said: “While we were looking forward to a fiery encounter at the Coliseum last night, sadly any hopes of the meeting sparking into life and getting the tapes fired-up were extinguished, as the meeting was called off due to unrideable track conditions, which was despite the best efforts of the brigade of track staff. “We will bring news of the restaging date when known and look forward to igniting our rivalry with the Gladiators in due course. “Meanwhile, we’d like to wish Tom Brennan the best of luck in Riders’ Championship at Poole tonight. He has a burning desire to do well in the competition.” https://glasgowtigers.co.uk/hopes-of-completing-league-fixtures-go-up-in-smoke-at-plymouth/ Look at Glasgow with all the fire puns!!

  12. it would not matter where the gate was 3rd 4th bend is ridden differently it’s the entry into the first bend where every rider heads for it’s was like spongy clay about a meter and a half in diameter and there wasn’t really any way you could avoid it going into the corner it’s alway been there lots of tracks have the same problem but some use other materials it’s the same bit that gets the most use where the bike really turn hard to try keep it on the inside line some use clay to stop it rutting braking up its usually no problem when it’s dry or just a bit soft on top but too much rain and it won’t dry properly hence why they set fire to it to try dry it out leicester had the same problem but they filled it in with concrete but might be changed now the smaller tighter track are the worst because the bikes need to turn really hard i think plymouth tried there hardest to get it on and hoped it would dry out but never did as the promotor said it’s speedway damed if you do damed if you don’t

  13. Probably had an impact yes, but Poole track better prepared these days. Before they sorted the track out last season at end of August, I'd say no way would it be on. Also I think Redcar staying down after Plymouth rain off might have made them work harder to get it on. Also Charles Wright seemed keen if they could sort the track out. Definitely helps if riders are positive while track work is being done!

  14. I don't think it's unacceptable for the ref, 2 team managers and 2 team captains to make a decision on whether a track is fit for racing 90 minutes before start time in a (so called) professional sport. And by keyboard warriors you mean people who have paid to watch a speedway meeting, the word you're looking for is customers. Also i dare say there will be a few "keyboards warriors" who were actually at the meeting. Ultimately it's the ref that calls the meeting off, how he could have gotten this one so wrong really should be raising questions about his suitability to be a referee.

  15. Can't you dry out a wet phone by putting it in rice?... If so, maybe a few kilos of Basmati spread on the track might do the trick? Basmati could become the official designated rice to be used as laid down in the regulations, (and endorsed by an ex world champion), but there obviously will need some supplementary regs, re when a. "guest rice" could be used if the local supermarket didn't have enough Basmati to fully do the trick..... As you wouldn't want this type of scenario for example... "Tonight unfortunately Basmati rice cannot be here due to Tesco's running out, but instead we have fortunately managed to get some Long Grain arrive at the last minute. However tonights opponents are challenging whether the use of Long Grain is allowed given the extra length it has over the rice it is replacing, therefore there will be a delay whilst the referee inspects the rice and holds discussions with the two captains and managers"... Or Pasta? Could we use Twists maybe?.. Or Spirals if no Twists?... (Not Spaghetti, as too long and we would be in the same kind of Basmati/Long Grain controversy)... Or Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank? Monkey Tennis!!!!!!!? .

  16. Never mind the announcement for Harris, how about announcing Harris isn't going to be there in the first place. There was a preview of the meeting on social media yesterday with no mention that the Berwick No1 would be missing.

  18. Superb from Sam. All the more praiseworthy considering the injuries he is carrying and then being able to recover from the nasty crash in the first running of the final (courtesy of a nudge by Kerr), to win the re-run.

  21. I don’t see any issue with the track from a safety perspective, it’s just not racey, so your position at the end of the back straight on lap one is pretty much the race.

  24. The widened and banked track that the Faceenas and Steve Lawson and others have created is the best in the UK and undoubtedly one of the best anywhere. I'd say personally that Redcar is the next best in UK then Belle Vue.

  26. Now you are talking.... But best dressed taxi given the crowd numbers nowadays maybe?

  27. Correct .. Why would BV or any Div 1 track want to run a 2nd Division Championship? In years gone by you could maybe make a case for a Div 1 tracks' fans being interested due to the "novelty" of seeing riders that they ordinarily wouldnt watch... Hence the crowd level may be profitable with enough home team fans turning up.. However, nowadays. Every Div 1 track sees Div 2 Riders appearing there week in week out, so zero novelty and pretty much zero interest off the back of that I would suggest.. Running at a venue where the home crowd is usually good in number, and are at that level makes perfect sense...

  28. I may be mistaken but I believe all this started last week when the Redcar meeting was called off the evening before because of a real threat of heavy rain during Tuesday match day. We were shown footage at the track on the afternoon that was a proper deluge although where I live, just 8 miles away, there was very little rain until later in the evening. We here in Plymouth live in the shadows of Dartmoor. We have always experienced very localised weather, particularly regards rain. During the Monday night before the meeting, I believe another downpour at the vicinity of the track had a bad effect? I suspect with the nearing of the end of the season, and the Play-offs approaching, Mark and the management saw a good drying day that we had yesterday, all day, that conditions would improve, the track would dry out and racing could occur?. Even with everyone, I mean everyone, carrying out the Track Inspections, nothing was found detrimental. That's Riders, Track Officials, Managers and the Referee, all happy up to the time of the Coin Toss, Tapes Up and Centerfield Staff all in place. Then Marks announcement telling us all it's off! I'm sorry, but we've yet to learn how to control the weather, as much as we would like to?

  29. You still have the problem of no one else being prepared to hold the meeting apart from Poole. So people can suggest BV, Sheffield etc but if they don't want to hold it...

  32. Right, you’ve clearly missed the point of my reply. At no point did I suggest that there is no punishment for the Gladiators but I was suggesting that the idea of banning them or fining them, when last night was already a big enough issue financially for Mark and the club. Don’t be fooled into thinking that last night didn’t hurt the club financially anyway. The queue for people collecting refunds was extensive on top of paying riders, officials, track staff, medical costs. As for you criticising my attitude. I’m really sorry you feel that way. Speaking as someone who fell out of love with the sport but in the last two years I’ve got my excitement and buzz back, I’m really disappointed that someone would criticise my belief that speedway needs to pull together and support itself rather than cause division and alienate people. Wouldn’t banning Plymouth, fining them further financially etc help drive speedway into the ground rather than what I suggest about speedway sticking together?

  33. Great to see, and hear, Dan on Border TV last night.....showed you him doing a few laps......Plus very good interviews with Dan and Andrew. The studio presenter certainly bigged up the sport, nice to hear such positive stuff.

  37. So you want any ndl rider to just pootle around at the back against 3 heat leaders rather than potentially make a race of it?

  38. Track reserves should be competent enough to race if needed but not too good to influence a result. Ablitt and another NDL rider would have been better options.

  39. According to the refs interview, issues were raised with the track & the home promotion made attempts to fix it, unsuccessfully as it turns out. Some of these replies sound like the promotion did nothing & ref only inspected the track for the first time at 18:55!

  40. The increased crowd levels are the reason why we have the playoffs and they are usually fantastic meetings. We'll worth winning in my opinion from a fans point of view.

  41. It doesn’t matter who led the protest the track should not be an issue under normal circumstances.Obviously the Ref had to make the decision.

  42. Sawdust hasn’t been done away with. Poole used exactly that to dry up certain sections of the track last week to get the meeting with Redcar on.

  43. sounds like this particular keyboard warrior is getting into tin foil hat territory there

  44. So Brennan and Nichol as an example or you could say Morris and Thompsons, or Masters and Castagna (you get my drift) turn up at Leicester and say, "tracks rubbish dont want to ride it" refuse to ride, get backed by a weak referee and what are you left with. NOTHING I'd suggest.... BSN are culpible in setting and making expectation too, and theres no bigger group of keyboard warriors than those who sit at home watching live streams.

  45. So what about situations like last Wednesday when 5 hours of heavy thundery showers were forecast. The showers all missed Cowley and the heavy band that caused major flooding in King's Cross and several other places in the South East dissipated by the time it reached Oxfordshire. Would you have Oxford call off their meeting at 10 a.m. for fear of a fine? That would have deprived us of an entertaining meeting, resulted in extra restaging costs for the home promotion and caused considerable annoyance to the visiting Monarchs fans.
