Yes, they set fire to straw that they put on the track to try and dry it out. Apparently someone then called the fire brigade about it6 points

Seemed like a healthy crowd to me - I hope Glasgow Speedway made some money as their facilities and organisation were excellent. Why do members of this forum feel such a need to talk the sport down? The track, the fence, the delays, the coverage, the crowd, the time of the races, the format, the winner of the meeting for god's sake - all been panned in the preceding 40 pages, much by the keyboard experts who sat and watched a stream. How about taking the positives and advocating this great sport. I count myself lucky to have seen that meeting on my first visit to Glasgow and also thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Edinburgh the previous night. Both clubs seem well run with good tracks and consequently well supported - isn't that what we all want? Sometimes it seems that the forum members hate the sport and look forward to it's total demise just to say 'I knew that would happen' - c'mon try loving the sport as it is!5 points

Totally agree - there is 0% effort put in promoting any meeting at Lynn or meetings up and down the county cone to that by other clubs with the exception of Glasgow- they are not promotors they club owners - none of them actually promote the sport4 points

It's funny because the BSN crew spent about half an hour telling us how good it was going to be! It's madness... you have 1 club calling a meeting off over 24 hours before it was due to start based on an incorrect forecast and another who let all the fans in and call it off without a race being run! All in the space of 48 hours3 points

Dry all day. Plymouth track is a disgrace. When Poole were down there a hole appeared on the third bend with billowing dust for the last few heats. The track man down there should be sacked. Clueless. Imagine the frustration of the Glasgow fans who have made the huge journey down? And don’t come back say the Poole track is crap blah blah blah.. Plymouth should hang their heads in shame.3 points

That is 100% categorically untrue and I was good about 10 metres away. Craig's dad stormed in and told Wright to f*ck off, which upset some Redcar fans who had a go at Craig's dad. Team Manager then stormed in effing and blinding at everyone and did receive a barrage back.from the fans. Fault from both sides in my eyes, some fans did not help the situation I admit. At absolutely no point was Cook himself subject to any abuse whatsoever, and his ambulance was applauded off the track and I will happily go to any court in the land to testify to that.3 points

All day to fix a track, get a big crowd in, and then call it off. Shocking stuff.3 points

Never mind the announcement for Harris, how about announcing Harris isn't going to be there in the first place. There was a preview of the meeting on social media yesterday with no mention that the Berwick No1 would be missing.3 points

Seems like the bullies who usually change half their team for the Play Offs are getting a bit shaken and stirred by the fact that someone else may be about to do the same. No doubt scratting around for replacements for Kemp and Ablitt and would even dump one of the others if they could find a viable option. Maybe Glasgow could get the prodigal back for the play offs. Corporal Middleditch yelling down the batphone to the Chateau..... "we don't like it up us"....as Matt drops the latest chandalier on poor old Helen. What's Greg Hancocks CL average , oh how loveree jubberlee that would be by Plymouth! (isn't Wilbur best mates with their media chief Jerry or is it Gerry?)3 points

Completely agree, wolves used to be a great track when there was the Karlsson corridor AND an outside line. Now the outside line has all but disappeared it's just 4 guys fighting for the kerb most of the time. In the past used to get to around heat 6 and the outside developed and riders could ride the track "big" and then you had some terrific battles. Whilst I understand a lot of the home riders want it how it is now, and I get that winning teams and home advantage etc is important, it has lost a lot of it's entertainment value.3 points

And people wonder why speedway is not taken seriously by major sponsors,,,mainstream media and mainstream TV. Could you imagine the laughing stock of a newspaper report,,,, tomorrow's meeting called off because it might rain.3 points

Feel for everyone who attended tonight , yes we can blame whoever we want but as people are stating the riders don’t want to ride and I’m being serious if they feel it’s not safe then let’s leave it at that ,it’s them that are risking damage to themselves and there machinery2 points

Having been at the track tonight, I can confirm that every effort was made to get this meeting on. Several tractors working hard on the track to try and get it in a fight state. The biggest disappointment of them all is for the riders, staff and the excellent crowd that was building for this huge meeting tonight. Mark and his track staff did everything they could but it wasn’t to be. Whilst I understand everyone’s frustrations, including everyone who was at the track tonight, we should think first before offering too broad a comment. British Speedway doesn’t need infighting, it needs supporting and offering views such as banning Plymouth or fining them does nothing to help that. Unfortunate how the evening has played out but we must move on. I accept it is not a good look to those turning up for perhaps their first meeting etc but sadly this was the hand that was dealt to us Gladiators tonight2 points

I wonder how much it’s costing BSN too turn out each time? They’ve been hit with a fair few postponements…. Hopefully still making profit too go again next season2 points

Just logged onto the stream to hear them say the track was unfit to ride. I have to say that's pretty indefensible. But apparently that's speedway.2 points

Here here! I was there too, my first visit to Glasgow. Good enthusiastic crowd, good organisation (entry, stewards etc) and lots of exciting racing, thrills and spills. Unfortunate that riders were injured and this was the only downside. Loved the way you could stroll right into the pits before the meeting and be up close with the riders. How many other tracks allow you to do that? Well done Glasgow!2 points

Seems the pie rats are rattled, more posts about Plymouth on on the Poole thread than the usual trumpet blowing surely you don't see little ole Plymouth as a threat2 points

I agree about BV getting the 4 points to a degree -but season ticket holders would lose out (if there is any ? ) and the riders losing a pay day in some ways it’s punishing those not responsible it needs to be targeted more and the owner of the club . Seems to me the reasons for call of was Jorgensen injured Eurosport camera was due to be there that = very poor crowd and lastly and the reason used poor weather forecast were no rain fell on kings Lynn - some action should be taken but should be aimed at those who called it off2 points

The adverse camber is worse than rye house used to be, It never was like that in the past up till about 7 years ago and was quite shocked to see how bad it is today, nothing wrong with the shape of wolves but it only has 3/4 of the bends usable and imo that makes for not great racing2 points

But as they are the governing body, I doubt anything will change anytime soon.2 points

Problem with that, is eventually teams may run out of dates & have to race when the forecast is worse than the original staging!2 points

It’s August, it’s school holidays maybe if your club actually promoted it, put some extra entertainment on, advertise, put some special offers on. No just have a damp squib in September instead with no Tv.2 points

I posted the forecast from an accurate source on here yesterday. There was no heavy rain or 50% chance of showers. The call off was for other reasons in my view.2 points

It does if you're Redcar, Glasgow, Poole and a few other club's fans. Grant made a pathetic effort of promoting the club and was full of hot air.2 points

it wasnt meant to be offensive to our heroes of ww1, my grandad was injured in ww1, and my Great uncle was killed, my Grandad used to have a bit of banter about the ww1 trenches with his old pub pals, dont get so offended in this politically correct world full of snow flakes, I fought in the falklands as a 21 year old marine, i dont get offended by anything or what people say, it was part of my job at the time and i,d do it all over again. people need to chill out and stop being offended2 points

Pooles track took a pounding from the weather last week, it took them an hour but they got the meeting on, i would think the curfew at Plymouth gave them know time to sort it out1 point

Richard Lawson and Kasper Anderson are the guests. So it says on the Berwick Facebook page.1 point

Don't they have an issue there with tidal flooding from the river that is right next to the track. Certainly shouldn't be rain related. Might be a freak tide? Sounds like rider power. At least no one can blame Cookie.1 point

Poole's Ben Cook and Zach Cook are the meeting track reserves.1 point

Finishes up the same every season fixture wise, why does someone in charge at BSPA keep an eye on what’s going on.It’s Ok Leicester saying we’ve finishes our League fixtures but then to say we can’t race a meaningful Championship match for the next month is wrong.1 point

I think there's a better bulk deal on air horns in September, so maybe that's why?1 point

These kind of dodgy call offs won't stop while promoters can carry on making their own decisions as they see fit without some kind of adjudication from the governing body.1 point

OK, here are my views on the meeting. Arrived just after six and the place was packed with fans, the entry to the stadium was done with the usual Glasgow efficiency, tickets checked, programme bought, 50/50 bought, and drink purchased on entry all within a few minutes. The parade was started at around 7pm , in hindsight maybe the parade should have started at 6:50pm. The racing was fantastic and for what it's worth I thought the track was fine. The crashes which took place were on the face of it did not look serious but did cause some nasty injuries to the riders and although it was a long drawn-out meeting for the fans the rider's safety must be paramount and the utmost care must be taken to tend to the riders injuries. When the sun went down it did get cold and did not help when standing around for over four hours. We had to leave before the end to get transport back into the city and so missed the last three or four heats... A great gesture by the winner of the 50/50 draw (£525) to donate it to the children's cancer hospital which was matched by the promoters.1 point

As it’s called the challenge then i think Glasgow is fine- I certainly are happier with it there than at places like Zarnovica, Gorican or Krsko.(Daugavpils would be good if prepared right).1 point

Absolutely. If it's NOT performance enhancing, it is NOT being used to gain an unfair undvantage, so it cannot be considered cheating. It's just f*cking stupidity!1 point
