  1. Some of us are on a pension and with the rising cost of fuel, food heating etc can't afford to travel to away meetings like we used to. At one time I wouldn't have missed a meeting, home or away, but now have to think about what meetings I go to. It doesn't make me any less of a supporter though. Think yourself lucky that you can afford it and make the most of it while you stIll can.

  2. BIRMINGHAM have declared their intention to compete in the 2023 Championship campaign. There has been regular communication between consortium leader Nigel Tolley and the British Speedway Promoters’ Ltd in recent weeks with more than one eye already looking towards next season. During his process to take over the Perry Barr side last year, Tolley outlined an ambitious business plan for the club. But with the takeover taking much longer than anticipated, that hampered several plans on various levels. Tolley and his other consortium members feel that an increase in promotional initiatives, attracting significant new sponsorship and assembling a competitive and entertaining rider line-up could see them achieve their goals. And Tolley has moved early to allay any fears of supporters. “From the moment we sat down to begin our bid to takeover the Brummies it’s been a whirlwind, it really has, Tolley said. “We put together that business plan for 12 months but of course we didn’t take over until December in the end. “Things took a little bit longer than we’d have liked to put into operation so with our season almost over, it really is a two year plan. “So we’ve now got to be looking to next season to put all the things right that were wrong this year. “It’s been a very, very big learning curve for me, but what I’ve learnt is unbelievable and I’m going to use that experience for the future. “I’ve said it all along - we certainly won’t just throw in the towel. “There are a lot uncertainties, but we are looking to the 2023 season. “As I’ve said, some of the things we didn’t get right this season, some through no fault of our own, I’ll do everything I can to get them right for next season. “For me, the main thing there is building a team to get us into the play-offs. “Because of how much longer everything took than we first anticipated during the winter, team wise we were on the back foot from the off with a large chunk of riders already committed elsewhere. “And while things have gone against us almost from the off with an unbelievable amount of bad luck, we can hopefully put ourselves in a better position when it comes to building a team by declaring our intentions nice and early. “We’ve already had a good number of riders say they’d like to come and ride for Birmingham next season - and based on those riders, along with one or two we’d like to try and include ourselves, I have every confidence that we could get into next year’s play-offs and build a team that supporters would really enjoy coming to watch week in, week out.”

  3. Lol, what a load of predictable horse manure. I'd suggest that if the promotion aren't serious about us being a competitive outfit that they either let somebody else have a go or drop us down a league because these last two seasons have been a million miles short of good enough. I'm just thankful that I didn't feel up to going tonight and didn't waste a hard earned twenty quid.

  4. I've stopped going to Poole. Full of the Speedway eqivalent of Sun + Mail Readers who think they know everything, cheers when opposition riders fall and cheer when there riders knock them off and altogether an uncomfortabe atmosphere if you sit in that Stand in away team colours. Bigots probably best sums the worst of them up. Thankfully most Speedway supporters are mild mannered enough to cope with it but I voted with my feet some years ago. I've done Brummies at Cradley / Wolves / Coventry , Black Country derbies in the past but never met a more blinkered set as at Poole As for when they visit your own Track, you'll wonder if the clown Prince and his merry band have actually been watching a match in a parallel universe so utterly biased are they in all they see, say and report. Sooner they go back to the Premier the better.

  6. I see the Lynn fans are using the old Shovlar tactic of claiming a miracle if their team wins against all odds because their replacement reserve isn’t as strong as their usual reserve. Behave. You’re facing a side using R/R for Riss who have their number 8 in the rising star role and their rising star who nobody has seen or heard for months taking up a spot in the 1-5!!

  8. What an absolute load of rubbish! I've been going to Poole meetings home and away since I was 11 and 90% of this post is untrue!

  9. Lee Kilby if he's available. Very knowlegable and would be an asset in other roles too.

  10. Forgetting that 8 days previously he’d scored a 4 ride maximum in the European semi final ( which Team GB won) while Harris was replaced in two of his rides after scoring only 4 points. It pîsses me off that I even need to point this out but it seems that the numpties online spout cråp with impunity. i know I shouldn’t bite, but when I get personal messages slagging him off and read some of this on here I just like to put the record straight. it’s no wonder 99% of riders and officials in the sport avoid this site like the plague.

  11. That has never happened ..The previous winner been given the wildcard . Ellis just like any other isport is the Current champion until its ran again and we have a new champion ..nothing new about that .

  12. Well I don't intend to find out. I stopped going when they started issuing those fangled printed paper tickets instead of a parchment scroll, handwritten in olde English with a proper quill pen

  13. Anyone who thinks that Shanes and Morris are fans favourites needs to be questioned (there hasn't been a fans favourite since Jason Lyons retired) I know of a few lapsed supporters who if certain person wasn't involved would be attending PB more often. I'm sorry to be cynical but if you're moving things forward then things have to change.

  16. Makes you wonder what goes on in the heads of those in charge. Dodgy air bags, knackered starting tapes, broken fence posts.... whatever next?... a plague of frogs? Of course, it's NEVER their fault. Sheffield's woes are down to ill fortune on a biblical scale. They must have committed some really heinous offence in the past that has really upset the Almighty! Let's put this in perspective. If my daughter was getting married on Saturday morning and British Gas turned up the week before and dug an enormous hole on the path outside my house, there would be no question of my daughter having to climb into the limo wearing her wedding dress and wellingtons. Even if it meant me staying out all Friday night with a shovel, that hole would be filled in and the pathway cleared. Some things are just too important to leave to chance. So how important is a Thursday night speedway event in Sheffield? Clearly, their solution is to cancel the wedding. Tells you a lot. Sheffield Speedway has a duty of care to its customers, employees, contractors and stakeholders and should be moving heaven and earth to protect its interests. So I just don't believe this "we were given our first access back into the stadium today (Wednesday)" statement; the Speedway Office is inside the stadium - they should have been out there checking for damage every hour of every day and insisting the contractors don't leave until everything is ship shape long before Thursday night. I'm afraid three major disruptions on the trot shows that somebody is just not up to the job.

  17. Most on here are such speedway experts and laying the blame for everything thing has gone wrong lately firmly at the feet of the Sheffield promotion but its hardly there fault when there told they have access to the track to prepare for the meeting and find that there is damage done by others that prevents them from doing just that. The starting tape problem was frustrating but again was it the promotions fault when it was tested before the meeting (I asked that question) but when the referee got hold of the buttons it all goes wrong. Over the years how many of us have witnessed the tapes packing up part way through a meeting? It happens get over it. The air bag problem again frustrating but it happens, I'm sure if Danny King had busted any other air bag other than the one covering the gate the problem wouldn't have been so great but it was and again rubbish happens get over it. Maybe you would have been happier if the track staff left the bag off put a couple of strips of hazard tape across the gap and told the riders to avoid that section of the fence if they find themselves in trouble on the track and just get on with the meeting? The bottom line is all you so called experts here really know sweet FA and just enjoy knocking the promotion (any promotion) for the sake of it. If god forbid a rider got seriously injured or worse due to a faulty safety fence post or wrongly fitted air bag then yes the promotion would be responsible hence the reason they want everything done correctly even if its time consuming. We all have a moan about a club or promotion at times and sometimes they deserve it but a lot of you on here are blaming and moaning for the sake of it and I'm afraid the sound you are all making is coming out your rear orifice. Rant over.

  18. I'd imagine most Oxford fans who would have potentially made the trip to Poole normally, went to the Chargers meeting at Sandy Lane instead. That's exactly what I did. The Chargers have been getting good crowds (and good results), so I didn't want to miss it. Oxford also offered heavily discounted prices if you bought tickets to both meetings together (just £24 for both - kids free).

  19. Ellis was and still is 2021 British Champion. As regards the rules for the 2022 British championship there were only two options within the rules: 1] declare a result using countback regulations, or 2] abandon without a result with the intention to rerun at a later date It appears nobody was happy with option A which would have meant drawing of lots. The choice of Cardiff wildcard is a separate matter and the SCB made a pragmatic and reasonable decision in picking Ellis. PS No lots were involved in 1977 European Junior Championship. Scores after 12 heats: Busk 9, Owen 8, Collins 7. 2005 on the other hand....

  22. Middlo isn't worried about Plymouth or any team, he knows we are capable of beating anybody, he was just making the point that Kennett should have been replaced not gone all season using guests . You seem to suggest Lawson took MPT out on purpose, I completely disagree with that, it was a racing incident..
    3 points
  23. Perhaps because a lot of Oxford fans were supporting the Chargers who were riding at home tonight.

  26. Why would the landlords remove the fencing. That doesn’t make sense at all. Why pay someone to remove it when they can remain where they are like they have for the previous 90 years. is this grant removing them so if anyone wanting to take over has extra expense Now the company is kaput he won’t receive any money if he sells them
    2 points
  27. Why pathetic? As a former Pirate Eddie was probably on Middlo's list of potential riders for his testimonial, so perfectly reasonable to ring him up to ask the question.

  28. So Lewis Kerr can ride for Plymouth on Tues, pull out of KL cos of injury but okay to ride in this?!

  29. Poole, Oxford and Swindon definitely need to be in the same league, I agree with that!

  30. Great news... this forum would be a hell of a lot quieter without all of the Birmingham fiascos .

  31. It's not just Poole fans that cheer when a rider falls off, that is a general thing at most clubs. I take it you want Poole back in the other league so as to give your club more chance of winning something, the league would be poorer without us, easily the best supported club in the country, and lots of trophy's to back it up, promotion must be doing something right, so toodle of and slag some other team off
    2 points
  32. So the club announced some good news & some bunch of grumpy old gits look for a negative. Why?

  33. And who will pay Sheffield Speedway for the lost revenue, the riders for their loss of earnings, the stadium for lost car-park revenue, the fans for the disruption to travelling arrangements and the bars and on-track retailers for their losses? And before you mention it, the meeting will still go ahead, but it will probably be at the back end of September. This doesn't make allowance for weekly cashflow which requires all these stakeholders to pay their week-to-week bills in the meantime. It's a complete dog's dinner, and eminently avoidable.

  34. Bigot /ˈbɪɡət/ noun a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group. Mr Gould With the comment that you av made it seems upon definition of the word bigot that u av in fact called urself a bigot? That's how I understand the very clear definition. Interesting

  35. I think the likelihood of Kerr being released for Andersen is incredibly slim, you wouldn't make a change at all in that case. The Jakobsen rumours are strong so I expect him in for Monday. Klindt probably doesn't cover Iversen's scoring but heat leaders are thin on the ground, so it's a very limited market. He's certainly a lot better than R/R and guests here and there.

  36. From a neutral perspective I agree same old Lynn

  37. Seems very strange there’s no merch. Huge earner for a club. A very nicely designed jacket can sell for £70 and cost the club £25. They could sell hundreds of jackets, t-shirts, mugs, caps etc. missed opportunity this season.

  38. Hit nail on head. stock cars diddnt take the risk. They find a solution to a worst case scenario. in speedway, as shown Monday in British final. As shown with sheffields air bag fiasco. It’s we will cross that bridge when we get to it. And when they get to it they haven’t got a clue. It’s the fans that suffer. And they don’t care. there’s only ever a plan A

  39. One of the few failings of the Oxford relaunch is the complete lack of merchandise. Four months in and not so much as a bleedin' biro available to those who wish to show their support for the club.

  40. Good news, priority should be a new manager.

  41. I agree Tai, Dan , Robert should have invites to British Final. If they decline fair enough. British Champion should be a badge of great honour like it used to be. Not a Pass in to a GP at Cardiff or a Competition of "the best of the rest". In 5 years it's possible the 10 best British riders WILL be riding in Poland regularly and may only ride in UK when it suits. The situation in Sweden may be a bigger factor there than anything though as if UK becomes better "second option" than Sweden then who knows. The British Final should be marketed as "the very best of britain" (by birth)

  43. Fair play to Dan and Lambert who were not afraid to jump in to the toughest League and try to progress rather than stay in comfort zones. It's clear to see how quickly Brennan has done the same, he would probably not have progressed as quickly had circumstances not forced his hand and it's sad they did but every cloud has a silver lining and circumstances made his mnd up but moving to Belle Vue and Glasgow, power big tracks has bought him on far quicker than had he stayed in his comfort zone at Eastbourne. He needs to be riding in Polish middle tier regularly next season to ensure he keeps up with some of his Under 24 peers in Poland , Czech and Scandinavia. No reason he can't do that and ride for BV and Glasgow either.

  44. To be fair, domestic Speedway in the UK is now beyond parody... It is make it up as you go along, and probably won't ever change given it is the 'easiest way' to run it... But individual tracks are getting decent enough crowds, so enough fans seem happy enough just watching 'any Speedway, without having too much investment in the result... If you watch the Polish Speedway and attend a UK meeting each week you get the best of both worlds... In Poland? A proper, bona fide, sporting contest, with a host of world class talent riding in front of thousands of passionate tribal fans, with big financial rewards for success and relegation for failure, financed by major sponsors and massive media coverage... And over here? You get to see, (whilst none of the above,) "live action", which can still deliver a "very good night out"...

  49. Absolute farce...speedway continues to shoot itself in the foot by msking stupid decisions. Should have been 12 heats and then finals..rather than brainstorming up that crap after 1 hour...disgraceful and if this was in Poland there would have been a riot and what's the betting Eurosport don't show the restaging!?
