Another promoter not interested in listening to the concerns of the sports customers.5 points

Which is probably why it's in the state it is in. Lack of awareness or denial. This is a senior experienced official denying that the reality of British speedway isn't *depressing, despite (seemingly) falling attendances and as a result fewer tracks. I worked a bit with promoters of music event's, club night's and the like. They can never comprehend why their ticket sales for the next event were poor when they had such a great time putting the last event on. It was a brilliant night they'd say. Maybe it was for them as there's a lot going on when you're organising an event but did the paying guests enjoy it as much? They didn't get to hang out with the superstar DJ or didn't have to queue for the bar etc etc. You have to remember that the vast majority of customers don't have access to the pits/backstage or superstar performers/riders. Any lulls in the entertainment aren't filled by dealing with running the event or catching up with old friends. And the backstage facilities aren't always the same as those the paying public have to endure. It is hard for promoters to distance themselves from the experience of the event being at the epicentre of it to what the experience is like for the paying public. Sometimes they're vastly different. You see it with TV series like Question of Sport or Celebrity Juice. Those involved in making the shows must be having a great time doing so but they're basically unwatchable. Therein lies the problem. If you don't even think there's anything wrong with the product why would you try to fix it? * I wouldn't have used that word. The declining state of speedway wouldn't depress me, there's a million and one other things to do. It's just a shame that such a potentially exhilarating sport is producing such a weak product.5 points

Quote from Alex Harkess, the Edinburgh director in the Speedway Star two weeks ago. "If you ever read the Speedway Forum, you would easily start to get depressed. Fortunately the reality of speedway is nothing like that".4 points

depends on how you define a great job. If that's keeping the sport running in difficult times then certainly, great job done. if it's making speedway the best possible product it can be, then no. because it's not. again you can't view this in isolation. even if Edinburgh is great and can't be faulted the holistic piece is not in great shape. what's the point in Workington, Eastbourne, Swindon or whoever returning in 2023 when they (or some of the other teams) won't be able to track competitive teams because there are not enough riders to go around even if they are riding for more than one team, which in itself is a divisive issue. How long will those clubs last starting off at the current NDL level? Could they even contemplate it? These are all things which could be addressed but never seem to be. On the point of tracks being lost to development if speedway was a vibrant important part of the local communities there'd be more chance of those developments being denied. You don't often get successful sports clubs kicked out of their home venues as they should boost the economy of the local area. Maybe that's a little unfair on my part but the weakest always get picked off first.3 points

Great meeting. Score flattered home team in the end. Lublin riders making silly errors in the last few heats. Two good top flight meetings today.2 points

Yet another cracking meeting from Poland... Every point getting contested.... Running a last means so much given how close the teams are...2 points

Max dont need to prove anything to the doubters, as I said weeks ago he is better than a reserve, Rogers at Brum missed 2 tricks not signing Max, 1. he is a better rider than some that they have. 2 a fair few Cradley fans would have gone to watch him ride so poor management from Brum.2 points

I don't think that's correct. The last set of accounts prior to the liquidation process kicking in was the year to 30 November 2018. At that point, the net assets were £25,562 but, as the issued ordinary share capital was £100K, the remaining reserves amounted to £(74,438). This is most likely the profit and loss account reserve but no detail of the split is provided, as they're micro-entity accounts (pretty useless in all honesty). The next thing we know, the company is facing an HMRC liability of £158K, following an investigation of the period prior to Rob Grant taking control. This would have been more than enough to wipe out the £25,562 net assets, even if it consisted wholly of cash / bank (which it probably wasn't, as current assets at 30 November 2018 were only £33,696 and most likely included stock and debtors). The liquidator issued a Statement of Affairs, showing assets with an apparent market value of just £500. This was cancelled out by a creditor of the same amount. The bottom line of this statement showed net liabilities of just over £258K (£158K to HMRC and £100K ordinary share capital, all owned by Rob Grant). By the time it came to the liquidator's final report being published (around 8 months later), only a further £2,684.92 of assets had been realised, all of which was swallowed up by professional fees. Both HMRC and the ordinary shareholders received £Nil, as there was nothing left in the pot. Bottom line is Rob didn't "spend it on something else".2 points

If the council tax payers of Birmingham had voted on whether to hold the games or not, I'd wager the result would have been a big fat no. No other city wanted them, Brum stepped in.2 points

Used to happen all the time back in the 70s and 80s when the sport was semi-professional and on "tours". Teams would arrive missing an injured rider and use a local reserve or "junior". So those "levels of stupidity" would happen regularly. Something to ponder for those who think that things were always better in the olden days or want the sport to go back to being semi-professional?2 points

The Speedway Star need to interview the meeting promoter- Paul Bellemy(ex BSI chief) about the whole ticket situation and the fans fears etc. This needs to be very much sooner rather than later.2 points

Some better calls tonight from his mate? Riders pulling back and delaying the start and getting away with it (when the 2 minute light has went out). Letting Pickering off with a serious delay when on a tactical (2 minutes light at Berwick cancels after 2mins and 3 seconds) where the 2 minute light was off for good couple of minutes. The green light was flashing in the second half but not the first meeting? Shame when riders are taking the mickey the race cannot be started with the rider not ready (digging away). It would make them learn for later on (instead of letting them continuing to take the mickey).2 points

If I am not mistaken just three more home meetings. Long gone are those halcyon days of weekly meetings at Foxhall. What a sad state of affairs when you are in July and at the height of the school holidays etc. Just two home meetings in August and nothing other than league fixtures with no other offering including the 16 Lapper likely to be run. Ipswich has a loyal following but sadly the sport is shooting itself in the foot and is unlikely to attract a new following with a limited racing calendar.2 points

We must remember that the powers that be run meetings for the benefit of a few riders and not the fee paying public who are basically given what is on offer on a take it or leave basis. Shame that the promoters show so little regard for those who turn out to watch what is sometimes dross and treat them which such contempt. I agree, if this was held on a Friday or Saturday more supporters would travel as they do to the GPs and surely the host stadium would make more money. Says it all when I think it was Tungate who was recently in the Star bemoaning the way speedway was run in this country because it did not suit the overseas riders who would coming flocking back if it changed. U K speedway can neither afford or should give in to rider demands and should plough its own furrow starting by allowing clubs to race on days that suit the business not the rider. Clubs should sign riders who want to commit to British speedway and not want to ride simply to top up the coffers when they have a lull in Poland or elsewhere. Sadly nothing will change and in a few years it will be into single figures the tracks left running and they will only survive if riders are part time and have jobs elsewhere.2 points

Couldn't Peterborough try and push the regulations in the interest of speedway & have Chris Harris guest for Hans Andersen? I'm sure that would work.2 points

Well, like I said, if you were in the habit of reading Sportowefakty regularly (maybe you are, maybe you're not) then you'd have known long ago that it's the equivalent of the Daily Mail. In other words to be taken with an absolute pinch of salt. And for what it's worth, R&R's coverage and posts throughout the International section are unrivalled anywhere. Outstanding service provided for us all here.2 points

This site here is the least sensationalist and most reliable one, and you'll be able to use Google translate quite easily on it: https://po-bandzie.com.pl/zuzel/aktualnosci/ Regarding the traffic to the International section of the forum, looking purely at this thread, we have almost 60,000 views alone, which suggests to me it gets a whole lot of traffic! I come on only occasionally but from what I have seen, there appears to be a mixture of some who are highly knowledgeable about Polish speedway and speedway internationally generally, such as R&R, and others who'd like to imagine they know lots but actually don't! For me personally, I run a speedway FB group that deals exclusively with European speedway and I can tell you this with absolute certainty. R&R is the most valuable resource and poster I've come across anywhere on the net, including in Poland!1 point

Where is Bomber this weekend? Seems a really strange idea to sign one of the most entertaining rides in the sport in the UK, and then run meetings without him... Given his LT commitments, and individual Speedway ambitions on the european and world stage, is a weekend track the best place for him and the sport in general? Bomber getting replaced by other teams' best riders does nothing for the sports reputation and of course he ends up missing meetings and another pay cheque.. (No wonder he guests so much)...1 point
