  1. We were well beaten by the team that gated better ,If you are happy with that then fair enough. But don’t give it the Violin rubbish Basso is a racer as you well know but if the track doesn’t allow that then he is pissin against the wind.

  2. I agree but continue to do that and we wont beat anyone like this over 2 legs in the play offs. Fairness doesn't get results. Tonight was about gating not racing, I was getting bored watching on TV but Poole got a 12 point win and the fans looked like they were going home happy. Could we pull back 12 points at home if this was a 2 leg affair. No chance IMO, our track is too fair.

  5. Hardly "second season syndrome" he's had a fantastic year & having one disappointing match doesn't change that

  6. Seems to be the theme in speedway if a rider like Jonas is doing well they will end up at Glasgow the following season. Hopefully, his friendship with the Flint family will see him take the sensible route and remain at Berwick in 2023.

  7. Ostergaard got away with a huge roller. Lawson was well pissed and got straight in the phone. Crowd were shouting at ref throughout heat and afterwards. Ridiculous miss.

  8. Interesting to read the view points of the track when one particular Poole fan slammed Berwick for the limited amount of passing... Oh the hypocrisy!

  9. Poor meeting overall, hyper slick track with almost no passing. Had hoped to see better.

  12. You only have to look at Google Maps and the adjacent development to the showground to see the intensity of the housing. The Grandstand, pits, track and backstraight areas are roughly 150m x 200m. Overlay that on any part of the housing, and you'll see 40-50 homes.

  13. F1 doesn't have a track operating in London either, but still gets plenty of attention. The 'mass media' is much less important than it once was. Few under the age of 50 read newspapers or even watch mainstream TV these days, so the opportunities are there for sports that can gain attention through other channels. The problem of course, is that speedway is largely followed by people well over 50 and unfortunately has been unable or unwilling to address that underlying issue for the past 20-30 years. Just as an example, any sport of any credibility has an app where you can get news and live results, but does British speedway? The SGP now has one which is a start, but even that's somewhat lame (e.g. its developers are apparently unable to even make a proper logo for it).

  14. Green Sheets are not a reflection of this season, because they still include some from 2021. Averages are updated regularly now, showing Home, Away & Overall for 2022. Note that the Green Sheet figures are updated as soon as the referee's official scorecard is available, so will not reflect the current month (and don't forget that the number of matches used for the GSA will reduce by 2 for August): https://britishspeedway.co.uk/2022-rider-statistics/

  16. He will be the first sportsman in history who finishes bottom and second botton in two leagues who also qualifies for winners and runners up medals in the same competitions... "How did you do this year Bomber?".. "Finished bottom".... "And first"... "And second".... "And third... "And fourth, and fifth and sixth as well"..

  17. Yes, if the team manager was more aware / ruthless, Berwick could have come away with a draw!

  19. I was bored, so did a bit of research into which clubs are getting the best performances from their riders based on Championship averages compared to Premiership averages. List below... Prem Champ Diff Leon Flint 3.22 7.05 -3.83 Joe Thompson 1.85 5.44 -3.59 Jye Etheridge 4.72 8.00 -3.28 Danyon Hume 3.61 6.85 -3.24 Ben Barker 5.30 8.44 -3.14 Drew Kemp 3.50 6.63 -3.13 Jordan Palin 2.27 5.36 -3.09 Jordan Jenkins 1.07 4.14 -3.07 Scott Nicholls 5.44 8.50 -3.06 Richard Lawson 6.93 9.62 -2.99 Cameron Heeps 2.40 5.10 -2.70 Kyle Howarth 7.13 9.38 -2.25 Hans Andersen 5.97 8.19 -2.22 Anders Rowe 2.86 5.00 -2.14 Lewis Kerr 5.63 7.53 -1.90 Erik Riss 6.92 8.78 -1.86 Craig Cook 6.93 8.64 -1.71 Richie Worrall 7.45 9.00 -1.55 Charles Wright 7.76 9.26 -1.50 Nick Morris 7.87 9.30 -1.43 Jack Thomas 4.23 5.50 -1.27 Benjamin Basso 6.81 8.07 -1.26 Ulrich Ostergaard 6.13 7.38 -1.25 Connor Mountain 4.94 6.13 -1.19 Tom Brennan 6.28 7.45 -1.17 Ryan Douglas 8.29 9.44 -1.15 Chris Harris 8.54 9.58 -1.04 Stefan Nielsen 4.34 5.37 -1.03 Danny King 6.77 7.70 -0.93 Steve Worrall 8.47 9.28 -0.81 Michael Palm Toft 6.92 7.70 -0.78 Josh Pickering 8.49 9.13 -0.64 Troy Batchelor 6.86 7.41 -0.55 Sam Masters 10.03 10.44 -0.41 Adam Ellis 7.74 8.13 -0.39 I think you can forgive some of the younger riders, but pretty disappointing from the likes of Barker and Nicholls being over three points down. 20. That part of the preview hasn’t been changed from Tuesday, the first part of the preview had Starke OR R/R if he doesn’t make it, and that part has been updated today to state he’s out and it’s R/R.

  21. If that’s the best meeting of your season then that is a sad reflection on what you are being served up. I make no apologies but that was absolute dross as a spectacle.

  23. Good to see the track doctoring sorry practice session work so well. But seriously is it normally as bad as that , slick track = shi*e meeting Brennan trying an outside line and goes backwards. And here was me naively thinking it was supposed to be entertainment.

  29. Wrong type of fence, The Northside fence is wire fastened to upright light metal poles which is suitable for speedway, especially on the bends with the air fence cushioning the impact of a rider and bike. Stock tracks need a sturdier type of fence using Armco, which is bolted to upright metal spikes, cemented into the base. Same as motorway barriers. Scunny has that type of fence embedded into the bank at the back. For the stocks, the deflated airfence is slung over to be behind the Armco, to save damage.

  30. Just from the start of 2022. Thought it would be a fairer (or at least as fair as it could be) reflection that way. I think it also shows that Kyle has been decent in both leagues, and Hans...well....hasn't.

  31. In truth it was always a fairly marginal sport with few or no wealthy benefactors, and to a certain extent has fallen victim to land pressures and environmental concerns that have forced it from prime locations. But Hackney in particular was basically situated within what became the London Olympic park and the sport apparently did nothing to ensure it was included amongst the other minority sports that had facilities built for them. That sums up the mismanagement of speedway down the years.

  32. If using a simple conversion factor it should be in the region of 1.25-1.3. However the relationship is not strictly proportionate (witness all the low average rider at the top of the table) so a linear regression would be better modelling. (I have done this before. I think the answer would come out as something like: Prem av = 0.9 Champ av - 2) Edit: just done regression on 2021 stats: formula is: 0.824 Champ Av - 0.32 = Prem Av

  33. Leicester are waiting for a date from Scunthorpe . The blank dates Scunthorpe have had are due to rider availability . Also Mr Godfrey doesn’t want the same team there twice in quick succession. Leicester are at Scunthorpe in the Jubilee Trophy next Friday so I think it will be 26th August

  37. Clearly they didn't think it through when planning the rule change! Also compare a rider like Joe Thompson's last 10 matches in the team vs reserve. The difference could be anywhere between 3.00-6.00!

  38. There is a big difference between racing at number 6 compared to number 7. If every Champ side had to put their weakest rider at 7 (like Prem teams have to) then he'd at least get another heat against the opposition number 7. Signing a 2.00 rider at number 6, like Coles, means the most you can expect from them is 1 or 2 points imo

  41. Before I started riding I used to be that fan that went nearly everywhere with wolves, on coaches to away meetings,it was always the same crowd singing away our songs like Brian karger has no father or we all hate the spoons to the American national anthem, great times and we loved our clubs no matter how bad they were at times, it was a tribal thing now I don’t even go to wolves that often and don’t feel an affiliation with them, I still love speedway but I can’t get behind a bunch of riders that don’t “ride “for that team, they ride for the money and anywhere they can get it,the sport has created this modern way but the riders have pushed it just like the modern bike, the riders have pushed the bike and nobody has ever held them back and we are now riding bikes cost to much for little reward and certainly no reward for the sport, British speedway has got to understand it’s a team sport on bikes not a motorbike sport and when it does understand that the fans are the lifeblood of the sport

  44. If Woffinden Lambert and Bewley came back to the U.K. that would be a huge boost to the Premiership but can’t see it at the moment. Sweden is going (to go) the same way as the U.K. with interest falling alarmingly, again I would say through lack of top Swedish riders. I think after the pandemic U.K. had the chance to reorganise and have one professional league to employ the stay at home riders and from overseas - mostly Aussies and where would be without them! The sport is becoming Northern dominated as stadiums in the south come under pressure through ever increasing land values and housing requirements.

  46. Second Chargers crowd was in half term week and was nearer 1000 than 500. In any case, it was several hundred higher than the first Chargers meeting and the Oxford promotion were extremely pleased by the size of the crowd.
