  1. Enjoyed that tonight... Some cracking racing from both teams.. No guests either... (Not sure if that is allowed in the regulations though).. Connor Mountain and Tom Brennan both deserved more for their efforts, but great to see young British lads mixing it with GP stars.. Plenty of sponsors on the centre green too, and that ball game thingy is good to keep the kids involved, so the Aces look like they are giving something a go off track too... Biggest crowd of the year at the NSS for the Premiership? Maybe 1800/1900? No guests, decent crowd, full on cracking racing from both sets of riders, regardless of the scoreline, interaction with the fans, and all done an dusted by 915pm... When done this well, what's not to like about British Speedway? It shows it can be done...

  2. So Clegg is too old at 25 but Aussie Keleher at 29 is fine?

  3. A young Dane would have a 5.00 average, so you would need to replace at least two riders in order to fit him in, and revert to the original Team Building limit.

  4. Max Clegg to Leicester. Riding at reserve to, great move for him.

  5. Its another in a long list of reasons why the sport isnt taken seriously anymore and why the crowds are so embarrassingly low. The new generation of riders just don't give a toss about the fans , simple as that.

  6. The riders have been doing as they please for years. It’s just a regular job ,ride as many times a week as possible.Probably have to look at their body colour to remind them who they are riding for on the night.

  7. Correct Panthers wouldn't have won without that masterstroke, clever move.

  8. So we can use Basso in 14. Lyon is the best manager in the league so he knows what he's doing.

  13. No, no problems with Sam. He is a legend up here and much loved. I’m sure ice and Ibuprofen did the job. He has not hidden his distaste for Scunny. Glad to see he will be back on form with Josh for Friday when your mob come to Armadale. Should be some fine tussles with him and the good twin!

  14. Reliably informed that the Edinburgh team manager saw Sam's foot injury before the meeting @ Scunny, & it was badly swollen. Sam is very loyal to Edinburgh and found it too painful to continue during his second ride. Despite the comments by the would be "medical experts" on here, it's not unknown for the recovery process to improve sufficiently 48 hours after the injury occurred in Poland, to be able to resume racing. It also should be noted that r/r would have been the only option otherwise for Wolves tonight.

  15. It was announced at the Scunny v Edinburgh match that Dave will miss the rest of the season due to going into hospital. . Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery from whatever the medical problem is he suffering with

  16. Correct, Sam wouldn’t of pulled out yesterday If it wasn’t bad. Has to much respect for the club to do that.

  18. Just for interest and for our Glasgow friends with a good memory the chap standing in field on the second bend was Jackson Irving... I offered to hold the dogs while he had a spin but he was slightly worse for wear...(and politely declined) https://blantyreproject.com/2019/03/1986-blantyre-speedway/#:~:text=paulveverka-,3,-years ago Regards THJ

  20. It`s not total madness if you are Poland paying big bucks expecting the riders to perform and not be exhausted by riding every night all over Europe. Sweden and Denmark both run squads so it should be possible to come up with riding number of nights per week instead of number of other league`s.

  21. He is 25 not 35 ???…. Only 2 years older than Dan Bewley !!

  22. I suspect it was the best option unless you know otherwise.

  23. Where did you get that from? The BYC wasn't covered, since the Scunny stream is done by a young and enthusiastic group of lads, some of which had college, etc, to go to today and it takes significant time for them to pack up the gear.

  24. Great attitude. To take it a step further, Leicester won at Mildenhall in the league a couple of weeks ago. Using your logic, is there any point Mildenhall turning up for the final? Or just give the trophy to Leicester now? Wouldn't that be the most sensible option?

  28. I think speedway will only survive in the U.K. if we can build new tracks. They will be out of the way and capable of accommodating the modern speedway bike that is now too fast for some of our historical tracks. Sadly the south of England is now a waste land to the sport with land values encouraging more developers into building more and more housing.

  29. Most interesting to me was the start, where the riders were held a couple of yards (don’t recall the exact measurements) and when the green light (or whatever) came on, they moved to the tapes which immediately rose. No gardening, no rolling. Ah, the good old days. Will we ever learn from them?

  32. Yes but most people it is the same company! Whereas with this it can seem that Tom puts BV first and Sam Wolves. Not saying that is their thought process, but you can see why fans would think that!

  33. Happens in every job .. What about the person who goes home ill or rings in sick saying they don’t feel well and returns the next day .. Speedway riders are no different .. I was there for Tom Brennans crash and he genuinely took a “bad one” …If he feels ok the next day what is there to stop him returning to work like any other employee?

  35. What contracts do the riders sign/agree to? British contracts don't really seem to be worth much, given that riders swap teams without any problems. Nobody has ever challenged the concept of "assets", and, as far as I know, the value of a British speedway club does not include any value for their riding "assets" - essentially, riders aren't worth anything ...

  38. The attendance at the Cubs meeting v the Bullets as to me seemed the worst number that I have ever seen at Leicester. The figures for the Cubs meetings are normally accepted as poorer than the Lions fixtures but this one was very poor.

  39. Makes the man even more of a legend the level of mince he had to carry for so many years, particularly Blantyre era. Would've walked into any side but was always loyal to the stripes. Thankfully I was but a nipper during those years and earliest memories are from shawfield!! Remember Jacko having a spin at a testimonial or anniversary meeting, but will be a fair while ago now

  40. You would have thought so! As he is going to have one of the Thompson twins with him then they will be expected to win H2, so all Max has to do is get a third place really and just outscore his opposition reserve and job done. But as I am not a Leciester fan not for me to worry about! I'll leave that up to Iainb and others.

  43. I did think you were gonna sign him as he commented on a Leicester or Stewart Dickson tweet on twitter. Nothing personal but glad he's not coming back over. Also Clegg a lot cheaper than flying an Aussie over but the only way Leicester should have signed Keheller over Clegg is if you get Plymouth in the playoffs.

  44. There plenty of industries where it is common to place restrictions of self-employed sub-contractors. I don't think Bosman would help any rider seeking to challenge the Polish rules.

  46. The council is a political animal made up of politicians with only short-term tenures on their positions. Given a choice of working for the local community who can vote you in or out of a job, or another nebulous community of leisure and pleasure seekers who are scattered all over the place, guess what a politician is going to do? Ultimately Wheels is a great facility, in the wrong place at the wrong time. When it was created it converted a larger derelict area into something that served a purpose. But sadly, that innings is now over. And with carbon footprints coming under scrutiny, having a motorsport facility very near to a Clean Air Zone isn't consistent with council policy either.

  47. I was there too. Scary to think it was 40 years ago! Yeah, the sport has never meant anything to the US public - or media. We went to a meeting at Ventura the week before, and it was like no speedway I'd ever been to before. The locals acted like we were all weirdos with our team gear, and one guy saw all my badges, and said, "He must have 20 lbs of metal round his neck"! I had a great time, and we DID have the holiday of a lifetime. We (two coaches) spent the week in LA, and then drove back to Dallas, taking in some great sights. We bumped into dear old Vaclav Verner and Emil Sova in Disneyland...
