  1. Everyone who has subscribed has been emailed/contacted this morning (or will be) not only with the official apology but also a breakdown of the various recompense to their different subscription passes. Big investment in new equipment also underway. As a season pass subscriber I am more than happy with their explanations.

  2. I thought their response was excellent, the issues shouldn't be occurring but the customer service and compensation can't be argued with really.

  3. Not sure it has been confirmed. Helmets should be a good fit obviously and maybe he didn’t want to take the risk with someone else’s that he a) couldn’t be sure it would fit well and b) didn’t know the history of the helmet. I don’t think his decision is too ridiculous tbh.

  4. Absolute Garbage for the whole night from start to finish. That is the worst venue in GP history and a complete waste of money for anyone thinking of attending.

  5. Right! There's quite a bit to unpack here... God Robfrey: "I can only apologise to the fans again, but I hope they realise that it was an event beyond our control". What exactly was out of the control of the promotion? Joe Alcock crashing that's all, absolutely everything else was in control of the promotion, they took the decision to run a meeting with inadequate medical cover knowing full well that if the ambulance was required to travel to hospital that would be the meeting called. And if they didn't know that, they should, there have been quite a few meetings in recent years where there has been inadequate medical cover, especially post pandemic/Brexit, now the NHS is under such strain and yet these chancers still don't have the insurance of a 2nd medical crew. They nearly got lucky with the fact that the air ambulance was in the air already and was able to attend but for whatever reason they didn't want to take Joe to the hospital. And look at the full statement and last night when he addressed the crowd over the PA system... except for the apology and wishing Joe well, he made it all about himself and how he wished he hadn't got up and what a disaster of a day it had been... and then in the statement on the website sought to absolve himself of all responsibility by using the old circumstances beyond our control line! Even Boris Johnson would be proud with his lack of responsibility. Where I will give him credit is the gesture of goodwill in "allowing" full re-admission to another match... even though he didn't have to, he felt the need to add on to the end of the sentence. This might lead some Birmingham fans to question their promotion's statement "Whilst it is not appropriate to deviate from the official re-admission policy agreed between all clubs and the BSPL, they have decided to offer a free programme to supporters who come along with their Berwick re-admission ticket." after one of their fiasco's earlier in the season. So let's look at a night out at the leader of British Speedway's track... You turn up after a 2 hour drive from Leicester at quite an expense on a nice(ish) summer evening, the crowd is pretty meagre, there's no atmosphere, there's a low key rider parade, Tero Aarnio is announced as not riding... no explanation R/R, heat 1, big crash, re-run Palin & Douglas nearly crash into each other again, heat 2 Joe Alcock crashes and I think we all knew the writing was on the wall when he was loaded into the ambulance... the only thing we didn't know was whether there was backup medical cover, listen to God Robfrey tell us all how bad it has been for him and then a 1 and a half drive home. To finish on a positive... Simon Lambert! What a ride in heat 2 to sweep by both Lions in one move on turns 3 and 4! Not quite worth the journey up from Leicester on its own but exactly what Speedway racing is all about! The sport is in dire need of riders of his calibre, never going to be a top star but a solid middle order/reserve that knows how to ride a Speedway bike, interacts with his fans and sponsors and is the life blood of our sport. Cue the Godfrey apologists... bring it on!

  6. It's got better week on week and altho last night seems to have been a bit of a shambles (I couldn't watch live) I get the impression the folk at BSN listen and will get it right. It's a big step forward for speedway which normally lives in the past.

  14. As a realist, I have learnt from past mistakes not to bother watching, that is why I am always amazed at the optimists among us and somewhat baffled by the stupidity of watching and moaning, and never learning. Keep it up

  15. Absolute borefest - the city is great but the track is absolute garbage. If the Marketa Stadium doesn't put banking in, take the SGP away from the City. Has been awful for years.

  17. Despite Sheffield's flying start (ignoring the Wolves hiccup) I still think this is the closest it's been for years and anyone really could win it. We're not making any assumptions in Sheffield as to how the season will pan out. A dip in form here, the odd injury there, anything can happen before October.... and then there's monkeypox!

  18. I guess what would happen if he got injured whilst wearing someone else’s helmet. Would his own insurances cover him? Too big a risk I guess.

  20. Nothing like pre-judging, eh! The book will, of course, be edited. That PC's book wasn't written well before now was his decision but it means it will now be bang up to date and, from the feedback we're getting, eagerly awaited. People won't agree with everything he says - but then isn't that true of most decent autobiographies in which the author is forthright in his/her opinions - whether or not we agree with them.

  22. This is British Speedway. What I suspect has happened, the people running British Speedway will have been of the opinion that a streaming service would never work, not enough people would sign up/be interested to make it worthwhile etc. The people at BSN thought otherwise and were willing to put there “money were there mouth is” and test the waters by giving it ago. I signed up for a season pass, and in the beginning it was Ok, nothing fantastic, but enough to justify the cost of the season pass, but importantly, the people at BSN, listened to feed back from subscribers and improved content on a weekly basis, to the point more people were willing to sign up, be it monthly passes or individual matches. I suspect, Demand has outstripped the ability to supply a consistent signal. I have no doubt that the team in charge at BSN are working on a solution, and it will be fixed. At the end of the day, it is we as fans, who have caused the problem by being willing to watch a stream service in large enough numbers for it to become an issue. How many times in the past have promoters/naysayers used “fans won’t watch/pay/turnout etc” as an excuse not to try something new or reintroduce something that was once popular like the Fours qualifiers, and they are probably the same people who will have been sceptical of a streaming service. I hope BSN goes from strength to strength and keeps improving on the back of/and for the fans who are willing to watch and there by make it a success.

  23. I'm currently in the process of listing my entire collection of speedway memorabilia, which i have decided to sell. I sold my collection of race jackets recently and having retrieved over fifty years of stuff from my bulging loft, it was fascinating to go through it all and find things that i had forgotten i had. The one thing that i wont sell however, is a signed, framed picture of Bill Kitchen that his wife asked him to sign whilst literally on his deathbed. It must be the last autograph he ever signed and it takes pride of place in my office at home.

  25. And so she should. She rode to the best of her abilities, and came across well in the pitside segments. I was impressed when I saw her live at Gustrow, but still it was tough on Norrick not to get the call up.

  26. Thats 2season ending injuries at scunthorpe so far this season, best wishes to you Joe and Dan gilkes. You would have thought lessons would have been learnt about having adequate medical cover but obviously not. As for the derogatory comments on the streaming about Leicesters track just confirms the bloke is a bit of tool, made similar comments about Plymouth very amateurish. Pot,kettle, black springs to mind.

  27. Scunny av Redcar & Glasgow at home before Poole who are there on the 17th June. But it's on the night & available paramedic's it seems as per Godfrey's report on the Scunny website. Pays yer money takes yer chances which is no way to be thinking when attending a meeting at Scunny. Maybe all tracks should be made to declare how many paramedics & ambulances will be in attendance when the team line ups are announced??!!!!!! As you quite rightly ask questions Steve about attending when Poole are there............ Again, it doesn't matter how valid a club's reasons are for calling a meeting off the bottom line is this puts people off!......ok the weather is accepted, in most cases, for a call off. Hope Joe Alcock as a speedy recovery

  28. Not just publications - everything. I have a few modern bigraphies and the like, and I really have trouble reading them; most look like they have been written by a 10-year-old. As for websites, well... There is hardly a website I check that doesn't have appalling grammar or spelling, and that includes "legitimate" news sites like BBC, CNN, and most of our local TV and newspaper sites. It has to be the result of educational standards declining - partially - but a lot of it just comes down to laziness, and a lack of pride. With all the technology available, it has never been easier to spellcheck, so why are there so many mistakes?

  39. It was a few years back during a double header, there was a huge black cloud heading for the stadium and instead of sending the riders out the management thought it was a better idea to keep sending the tractor out... I pointed out to them, politely, several times that it was going to be washed out unless they pulled their finger out... they blocked me... meeting was abandoned due to a waterlogged track

  44. Doesn't seem like it was a great night for Speedway last night... Unfortunately I was at Scunthorpe for 2 heats of Speedway, decided Live Speedway was better than streamed Speedway... No Win! There were a few teething problems in the early days that led me to think that something like last night happening was only going to be a matter of time, especially after some of the technical difficulties at Peterborough. I've read their statements on Twitter and they seem very fair, compare that with the twaddle on the Scunny website! One question though... With EMTV having been in operation for some time and being quite good from reports that I've heard, why were there problems last night I wonder?

  48. Quite agree; we shouldn't stream anything. Why would people want to watch it? Shouldn't be televised either. Come to think of it, shouldn't have spectators; do it behind closed doors. There, solves everything...

  49. I too have subscribed to both Backtrack and Classic Speedway Magazines. I am so sad that Tony and Susie feel unable to carry on with what, in my opinion, is a really good and professional Magazine. I loved all of the articles, as a 1970s Speedway enthusiast I think they are impossible to beat. I get a number of none Speedway related magazines but the two Speedway periodicals are the ones I look forward to the most. The '70s were a special time for me and Speedway and I love revelling in the memories evoked by both of these publications. I will miss my 'phonecalls to Backtrack, and talking to Susie when I renew my subscription. It was like talking to a family member. I would like to thank both Tony and Susie for all of their very hard work in producing these two wonderful magazines. I will miss them very, very much should they have to close down. Tony, Susie, I wish you every success in the future, you have kept me happy with my memories. I don't think I can give you higher praise than that. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
