Why is it I wonder when clubs are having a tough time (and I don't mean just Birmingham)& fans are getting more upset about what's happening, that people like you spring up spouting all the aggression? I never realised that anyone needed to put money into the sport to become an expert either. You might be close to the internal proceedings at the Brummies but you are no "expert " on public relations from what I have seen of your posts on this forum.15 points

I too have subscribed to both Backtrack and Classic Speedway Magazines. I am so sad that Tony and Susie feel unable to carry on with what, in my opinion, is a really good and professional Magazine. I loved all of the articles, as a 1970s Speedway enthusiast I think they are impossible to beat. I get a number of none Speedway related magazines but the two Speedway periodicals are the ones I look forward to the most. The '70s were a special time for me and Speedway and I love revelling in the memories evoked by both of these publications. I will miss my 'phonecalls to Backtrack, and talking to Susie when I renew my subscription. It was like talking to a family member. I would like to thank both Tony and Susie for all of their very hard work in producing these two wonderful magazines. I will miss them very, very much should they have to close down. Tony, Susie, I wish you every success in the future, you have kept me happy with my memories. I don't think I can give you higher praise than that. THANK YOU SO MUCH.4 points

Sad to hear that might be the end of the 2 mags. Have been a subscriber since issue 1 of Backtrack and have most of the Classic Speedways. Have really enjoyed them but I have to agree with Falcace that the "Life and Times" feature is not so interesting as the new interviews. Obviously with over a 100 issues it becomes increasingly hard to keep the mag fresh. Even so, I'm hoping someone else takes it on. Great to hear from Tony that he intends producing occasional books and DVD's. Many thanks to Tony and Susie for their efforts over the years.4 points

Give it a rest for christ's sake - people are entitled to their opinions whether you like it or not... This is a discussion forum, not a playground for throwing around childish insults.3 points

idiot me here you go again - a lot longer then you that’s for sure - and just to add a lot closer to speedway then You as well. one thing for sure is I am sick of reading all you lot winge about the riders where 99% of you have never even ridden one. You are all such experts but have never seen you put any money into the sport - as for you GiveusaB put your hand up and be the team manager ! Simple - but no you would rather slag everyone off.3 points

Unfortunately there are many on here who feel that any track that isn't shaped like Belle Vue is rubbish and should immediately be condemned. The particular skill set required to race around places like Armadale, Wolves, Plymouth, and many other "more technical" tracks are being lost every year. Personally I find the variety of different tracks in the UK very enjoyable. Admittedly they could often be prepared better (the entire speedway world miss Doc and his like) and this is the case up and down the whole country. Places like Armadale can produce terrific meetings. Sounds like the owners have been as reasonable as possible. They have decided to sell up, and have offered the stadium up for the Monarchs or anyone else to purchase. I do fear that if the Monarchs miss 2023 then we could end up with enthusiasm waning and another slow drawn out death.3 points

When you think what brennans been thru in a relatively young career its amazing, a horrific crash where things were touch and go for a bit, family trauma etc. He is the one youngster that looks capable of getting properly on the world stage if things go his way the next 2-3 yrs. The result was predictable, theres just a huge gulf between best and worst in this league, as big as its ever been i think .3 points

Timi Salonen is the first Finn qualified or wild carded for the series since 2010 when it became a series. Nike Lunna was on the reserve list that year when the BV quali rained off after heat 8 or what ever and had the chance to ride in the Gdansk final, but declined. Niklas Säyriö was picked in the covid-final in 2020 and actually did reasonably well finishing 9th. Previously Kylmä was in a few final on a SE license. Before him Laukkanen had that fluke in Kaanaa, getting a wild card for the final having not qualified. Still he was one heat win away from the title. Before Laukkanen, dont think we had any riders in the final since Koponen late 70’s when he won a medal. Expecting Timi to finish in the top 8 after prelis on a track he’s never ridden before practise. He’s on spanking new rides and quality fresh engines. Beer is in the fridge, I’m ready.2 points

It was both! The super double pass was in heat 10 which is in the second half of the meeting!!2 points

Not unless the ‘ lesser rider ‘ has scored enough points in his programmed rides to make him a ‘ qualified rider ‘ , in which case I doubt he would be classed as a ‘ lesser rider ‘. Is that clear ?2 points

Also stadium with planning use restricted to leisure activies: Market value £500,000 to £1million Stadium with planning permission for residential development: marketvalue £5 to £10 million. Note figures are illustrative and dependant on location and a host of other factors.2 points

Completely agree regarding the different skills required in GB,but unfortunately the modern day riders are not interested they just want to earn money abroad..2 points

Completely agree. This is why I find Polish extraleague quite boring because I enjoy watching riders mastering a track or failing badly and it's not always about overtaking or the best set up bike.2 points

Brennan has the talent. Learnt his trade at Arlington and last season was getting faster, braver and is dedicated. Has a point to prove and riding at Belle Vue and Glasgow will only help his development and every Eastbourne fan would wish the Eagle every success in his career as he continues making steps upwards. Hope that he gets a go a GP2 and no doubt has every chance of riding at Cardiff in GP22 points

Thank you. We'll definitely continuing to produce DVDs and publish occasional books with a retro theme if the subject warrants it. The Peter Collins autobiography, launching at the Cardiff GP in August, will be our biggest yet at 386 full colour pages. Next year we'll publish another autobiography that we expect will provoke plenty of reaction.2 points

Thank you for your kind words. We're talking to people in the hope that someone suitable will take one or both of them over.2 points

If the magazine(s) do fold, you can take enormous credit for creating a huge body of work in terms of interviews and articles which will be there for ever as an important, permanent and entertaining record of speedway times past. Superb tribute to Nigel Pearson as well by the way.2 points

Having just received my latest edition of "Backtrack" I read with dismay that the next editions of both magazines may well be the last as the present team of Tony and Susie wish to move on. I sincerely hope that someone else picks up the mantel because I thoroughly enjoy reading both magazines and not having either to read will create a massive void in my retrospective insight into speedway's last "Golden Era". May I wish both Tony and Susie very best wishes and thank you most sincerely for producing two great magazines which I will cherish and continue to read the back numbers in an attempt to re-fresh diming memories.1 point

I have posted this in the general section, but thought it worthwhile for those who are only interested in the Prem ... The Green Sheet Rolling Averages have been based on 20 matches for a while, but this season (2022), the number of matches is reducing by 2 each month, so: June 18, July 16, August 14, September 12, and by October the Rolling Averages will be based on the last 10 matches. I checked with the BSPL office, and they confirmed that it has always been the last N matches, irrespective of home or away, i.e. not half of each. Therefore, by October it's possible that riders will have averages skewed by 6/7/8 home and 4/3/2 away, or even 4/3/2 home and 6/7/8 away. Obviously, the smaller the sample, the bigger the impact on the overall average - especially when a new score is added and the oldest is dropped. Another change by the BSPL for which the consequences have not been thought through ...1 point

And to benchmark yourself you really need to be in Poland and/or Sweden.. Years ago when the best were over here you could do the same, so it was another advantage to riding here... As we can see, not many seem to miss riding over here anymore... And, to be fair, the intensity level of leagues over here, where you share riders on any given night, cannot be the same as riding in leagues which offer big financial rewards and publicity, and you are tied to one team with a tribal, fervent following..1 point

Forget it! They couldn't make it work, and nearly bankrupted the club when they ran in a comfortably-plush, big-city stadium just 45 miles from Edinburgh in 1996. No way could they contemplate running at a place like Northside -- in the early stages of its development -- 130 miles away. Plus, it was proved in 1987 that the Workington public have no interest in supporting any speedway team that isn't called "Comets"...........1 point

If that’s the case all I see on this forum is insults towards the riders and the management? Sometimes the truth hurts.1 point

Depends who is changed,,, Oh yes,,, the good old let's give Bellego a chance and not sign Rasmus,,,,, how did that work out Think history shows he turned Swindon into winners,, and we ended up getting rid of Bellego when it was to late1 point

Brennan was a good guest and it did look for a while we weren't going to have the predicted easy win but there was very little passing early on, racing was better later in the meeting with some good passes but Birmingham were just beaten by the better side in the end. Don't know what is up with Vissing, sad when you see a rider of his ability ride so badly but he wasn't the only one who rode poorly, Thompson looked a good guest but faded later in the meeting. Overall not a bad meeting and the Chicken Balti was pretty good too!1 point

The whole of the Brummies team have been disappointing this season so far even though I can't attend anymore Change the team manager, the club beggar,I do everything behind the scenes without being paid etc.etc.Just maybe, maybe things will move on If I'm out of of order with my comments then please let me know Please can the Brummies be a competitive outfit instead of just making up the numbers in the Championship league1 point

Never visited Armadale only Powderhall used to enjoy the northern tours , wasn't it an lce cream factory next to Powderhall , recall one year got there early off we went to find some food ,found a greasy cafe on a corner near the stadium, we ordered the food then sat there watching the guy cooking burgers etc whilst his ash from his fag in his mouth fell onto the food and he just turned over the food and carried on coughing , to afraid to really say anything due the size of the guy we just ate the food and left , great memories though. Hope something can be sorted to see the Monarchs on track in 20231 point
