Just a shame he didn’t realise it was a Pairs event, the only time Doyle looked for his partner was when he crossed the finishing line.5 points

To be fair to Bomber... He probably didnt overtake some riders as he must have been a bit confused as to who his team mate on the night actually was....5 points

Absolutely gutting, as much as the facilities aren’t great was still our home for 26 years and where we have had our best moments as a club and successful moments too. completely understand the owners situation and they have been great owners at that as they were great for the speedway. Gutted for the club as they’ve done so much for the youngsters in the last year or so with the speedway academy and mini track being built, to entering a team in the NDL again and this year putting two teams in to the NJL. Hopefully we can find something soon that we can continue to do all these good things. Think being at the tapes come 2023 could be struggle but we can always hope.4 points

A group of us (including Steve Brock) have been doing shows, schools, festivals, etc, for over a decade with videos and three bikes from different eras, advertising Newcastle Speedway to everyone. Where have you been ?3 points

The one change that they couldn't afford was losing the ringer at reserve and that's what happened. Didn't the whole team end up down there at some point last season? That's some luxury. That tells you much about where most are now in their career whilst now also being a year older and having to improve their performance against better quality riders as you highlight. That improvement isn't going to happen to riders on the wrong side of the hill. Loyalty is admirable but it was fairly obvious that that would come at a cost in 2022.3 points

Maybe the trailing hair blocked Ellis vision At least Lynn kept up there record of only riding against teams missing riders3 points
-
So he should be!! A victim of the scoring system requiring Lawson to manufacture a pass to avoid last as opposed to being encouraged to fight for the race win Looking back as much as forwards for 2 laps acting as a rolling road block and then turning left at a slower speed was only ever gonna end one way.... Very lucky it wasnt a more serious incident - Ellis unlucky to be excluded IMO3 points

There isn’t much turnstile congestion to talk about IMO.The sport is expensive enough without having to pay a booking fee.2 points

Seen the video this afternoon, coming down the home straight Ellis cuts back to be on the inside of Lawson, who then looks at him twice over his left shoulder before turning left across him, catching his front wheel with either his back wheel or dirt deflector, causing Ellis to lose control!2 points

Tom is riding and scoring far better than ulle is currently. And I'd take him over Starke too on any given day2 points

Easy win for us now even if we are a top heavy side .don't do speedway any good as a whole though2 points

People talking about the concept being wrong because of a small turn out. I'm of the opposite view. Crowd numbers at the venue are pretty much irrelevant, similarly to how greyhound racing works today. If there were 2500+ watching via streaming @ £13, this competition has started with flying colours. 3/400 at the stadium, 1900 online etc, it's a success. No longer will promoter be to concerned by paying punters at the gate as long as there's a gradual uptick in streaming purchases2 points

Could always go to Easter Road.Never any decent passing there either nowadays.2 points

Defeats the whole object tbh!! It's a pairs event so team riding has to be rewarded.2 points

A poor crowd but not that low. Bosses however have got the whole thing wrong again2 points

Consultation with those involved in attempting to run clubs in Cumbria "from a distance" -- I'm talking Berwick-at-Barrow in 1981 and Glasgow-at-Workington in 1987 will reveal that such a concept is a total no-no. Indeed, running the Scottish Monarchs at Shawfield in 1996 was equally financially disastrous, although that operation did at least see out the season.2 points

You can't have Bomber for Auty, his average is higher than Ryan Douglas' !!2 points

so because we used R/R for Leon at Plymouth we were entitled to have a guest for Jye2 points

You are absolutely right about the crash being caused by the scoring system. This pairs scoring format introduces a race where the only thing is to not finish last. Once Holder had gone, you could see that Lawson was trying to slow the race down and had been doing so for at least a lap before, backing Ellis into pickering to hopefully secure the pass. These bikes when flat out are not easy to slow down or change line. Richard certainly turned left on Adam. But I have some sympathy with them both, as it's not as though Adam didn't know what was happening, and could have been prepared for it. Only time recently I have seen similar was the championship Pairs 2017 at sheffield when Ben Barker tried to slow the race down backing Kyle Howarth and Charles Wright into each other, ending Charles' season with broken wrists. It's the scoring system which changes the natural instincts of what's important in that race. It caught Adam out last night. I have sympathy for both of them. I'm not a fan of the scoring system for that reason. Whichever way Tony Steele had gone, and it wasn't an easy call he would have upset on side or the other. I can see both sides of the argument and I think the root cause is the scoring system. But we hear every week about wanting to see more team riding and more track craft. The incident last night shows it's not as easy as we think2 points

The format itself is entertaining and is perhaps worth pursuing but the idea to enforce a reserve to have a ride is pointless, I think this detracted from the overall competition. Going forward I would suggest any 2 of your top 5 with a teams no 6 or either of the Rising stars at reserve but definitely letting the TM chose his line up and his choice as to whether he uses a reserve or not. No guests please, whatever is chosen.2 points

This is true, but when announced I and most Panthers fans were more than happy with the team.2 points

It's amazing so many blank dates these days & still manage to arrange a fixture that clashes with an international date. Why does Danny insist on riding the outside line when it's clear that that line doesn't work? Will certainly be a tough fixture, hopefully Ipswich will have enough to get though.2 points

Don't know how it came across on the stream but watching it live, it was a good meeting which got better as the racing developed. As the promotion were keen to get it finished early and I was texting updates I didn't get chance to go to the toilet until the gap between heats 10 & 11 when the announcer was interviewing Fricke, I was regretting the refillable soft drink at the Harvester long before then! First comment is that it is nice to park on tarmac rather than a muddy field - 1 improvement on last year, I'd say the crowd was slightly down compared to the twice I visited the EoESg last year. The only rising stars that looked competitive in this company were Brennan & Thomas, guessing Lemon thought Douglas may have issues swapping to his second bike - mentioned by Masters when interviewed so took a punt using Brennan. In fairness Douglas & Masters gave up chasing Fricke and team rode Brennan out of it toward the end of that heat. Thomas kept Kurtz honest for a few laps. Gate 4 appeared to have a big advantage at the start which disappeared by the end. Without doubt the best ride of the night was MPT passing both Witches in heat 7, other than that Panthers were disappointing - the couple of times Harris gated a queue formed behind him, but I only recall Holder passing him, it was obvious Holder was way quicker throughout, Harris only got in front from the gate by grass tracking to push Holder wide. King was the slowest non RS on show, when he did make the gate and he did a few times he went backwards. IMO Fricke was the quickest rider on the night, with Holder & Doyle not far behind, think Belle Vue made a mistake choosing gate 4 in the semi, advantage had gone. Kings Lynn probably deserved to win, best pairing overall and their 7-2 over their local rivals was the best heat. I had moved from start/finish straight stand to first bend so I didn't get stuck on car park for final, Lawson was obviously looking what was going on behind him throughout, because of fence & no elevation couldn't see if Ellis clipped him entering the last lap but it looked like he did. Other than that Ellis was largely anonymous! Sheffield got to final without me really noticing him. Similar story for Kurtz, who is proving rather an inconsistent enigma, the only thing I remember him doing of note was making a mistake that allowed Ellis to pass him, nothing like peerless previous visit to Alwalton. Wolves seemed to start strong, Masters looked good, Douglas looked slow. Douglas swapped bikes and was much quicker, but Masters faded as the dirt went wide, yet he was the first rider to sweeping outside pass overcoming in Lawson heat 6. Nearly a month until the next round at Foxhall! Lets hope Peterborough don't declare their top 4 unavailable and go with three RS riders. I can se some iffy pairings towards the end of this from the teams out of contention - the only negative comment, for now.2 points

Panthers woes continue...and how is this format any good for these "rising stars"..all this way to ride in 1 race cold against 2 top guys who have been dialed in all night...who's brainchild was that?2 points

If you just don't like it then fair enough, I was just interested why you thought they'd got the 'whole thing wrong' and it needed 'scrapping'. The reserve thing isn't good (I don't like it in the SoN either and they've just copied and pasted it from that) but the concept of a round on every track and a choice of two of the top four is good IMO. Let's see what the rest of the competition brings, looking forward to attending the Lynn round and streaming the BV one.1 point

I think Rob or whoever is involved with team building showed great loyalty to the fantastic job the riders did for you last season. While others tried to strengthen. Add the fact that your already aging team were are a year older, are all factors to varying degrees. Your only 3 league meetings in, so very early days, and i'm sure some riders will pick up, but the drop off is big so far. Your top 5 riders are 10 points down between them on their starting aves so far. From Ully down 3.09 on his starting ave to MPT at - 0.77.1 point

I think a big issue is ulrichs average, was never gunna maintain that, the others all be it not at current stand a better chance of maintaining1 point

Think you are doing the others a disservice. They are all quite capable of getting an 7+ score home or away. Only away blip we have had is at Plymouth so far.1 point

Like Lakeside and Peterborough we've all known that it would be a matter of when not if these stadiums would fall to redevelopment. On the plus side Edinburgh have one of the most stable promotions going and have I believe been actively searching for a new home. The Monarchs have a dedicated following, I hope there is some good news for them soon.1 point

We could be called the Fulham of speedway, they won the championship and Stamford Bridge is in Fulham so all good!!1 point

Who needs Ekstraliga & GP riders to achieve success? Panthers proved it last year while King's Lynn proved it tonight. Well done to the King's Lynn boys who were rank outsiders with the bookies tonight.1 point

If the magazine(s) do fold, you can take enormous credit for creating a huge body of work in terms of interviews and articles which will be there for ever as an important, permanent and entertaining record of speedway times past. Superb tribute to Nigel Pearson as well by the way.1 point

Oh no! I had to cancel Backtrack for economic reasons but still subscribe to Classic, which I thoroughly enjoy - so professionally produced, full of my best era with our wonderful sport. I would miss it if it disappeared!1 point
