He didn't kick off, as said on the Updates site, nothing of the sort. No idea why it was said.5 points

Must admit I have seen worse meetings at Brough this year and I was surprised to see the extent of track damage in the pictures. It explains the number of first/second bend falls although that end of the track has appeared patchy all year. I don’t know if there were concerns about the track before racing began or not. But when the first call was made from for the clerk of the course to contact the referee Roy Clarke said “I wonder how many times we’ll hear that tonight?” it suggested something might not be right. 2 decent races in my opinion. Ulle going round the outside of Starke on bend 4 (the first outside pass I’ve seen at Brough this year) and heat 10 with Howarth and Basso passing each other before Wethers nipped up the inside to pip them both. Wethers does seem to be the master at getting underneath anyone who moves a millimetre off the white line coming off bend 4. Hope he’s not too bruised after his off. I saw Cook talking to Wright after they got a bit close in heat 5. I was expecting fireworks - there weren’t any. Couldn’t tell if Craig was complaining or asking James if he was alright. All very civilised in the circumstances. Tonight’s updates do seem to have a slight hint of home bias. Hopefully everything gets sorted next week both on and off the track. I suspect speedway needs Newcastle rather more than Newcastle needs speedway.4 points

We are all grateful to texters (I've done it many times, it's not easy) but you can't have people making stuff up or texting what they think happened without being certain. If what was said about Cook was untrue I can't blame him for being annoyed.3 points

The referee's verdict is final, so might aswell wait for the referee's call,,, cos anything else might be what you think you had seen?2 points

As one of the much maligned texters myself , got moaned at on Friday for not being quicker than Glasgow's twitter , I've learned you should pretty much just stick to reporting what you see happening over the 4 laps on the track .2 points

All cook said was you don't turn left down the back straight on me but I'm sure he done that on the 1st lap to james2 points

Just back home in comet land i dont know what that "manager" was watching saying "crash after crash" the racing was some of the best have seen there this season ,glasgow riders fell off 3 times you could argue 2 caused by themselves, cook not interested matt wethers could hardly walk after he came off but came out and rode a great last corner to pass 2 others.it will be said by others but if score had been the other way around would it have been called off after ht 10 i dont think so.the real p*** take was glasgow walking on track to claim a victory which could and should have gone either way.i agree the pic shows how awfull and dangerous it could have been but why wait till ht 10 which was only stopped because the glasgow rider came off on his own on first corner no where near the hole.2 points

Moving away from the under strength side and the state of the track, which I cannot comment about as was not close enough to observe whether the pictures on social media are accurate or not, the fact that a meeting has been called off for an unfit track in good weather, at 6pm in the evening without any of the promotion offering the fans an explanation is shocking. We had last weeks anticlimax against Berwick, with so much going on in the pits at the end but no comment to the crowd from the promotion on what was actually going on. Tonight again absolute silence after the farce of a postponement in beautiful weather and still with hours of daylight left. The issue is that this promotion hides behind social media and have very poor press releases. It’s about time someone took it upon themselves to communicate with the crowd at a meeting to take responsibility for some of the issues before even more of the loyal hardcore step away. Totally embarrassing tonight and I feel for the Glasgow fans who made the trip down.2 points

You misunderstand. It won't be up to the speedway authorities. Any new owner is unlikely to get planning permission to run motorsports at Brough Park from the local authorities. You weren't to know this. Finding another site would be ideal but that's probably harder to achieve without any money to make it happen and you still need permissions from local authorities. As you say the sport can't afford to lose any more clubs but the BSPL have done their best to achieve just that. I chucked the towel in at the end of 2019, i.e. pre Rob Grant era as to be honest the level of entertainment wasn't worth the money and the meetings seemed to take forever for what is essentially 15 minutes of action. It's an extreme sport and it's presented like crown green bowls from the 70's. The Brough track doesn't suit the modern bikes/riders and Sunday only meetings mean the Diamonds have zero chance of putting together a decent team at the current CL level. A lower standard hybrid of CL and NDL would be ideal for the Diamonds where most riders are UK based. Absolutely crazy the the sport in this country only had one meeting on a Sunday in May. I think that makes it two meetings all weekend (excluding NDL and Friday nights). Totally bonkers imo not to run fixtures when most people have their leisure time. But it would appear everyone in the CL would prefer to subsidise the PL by offering their riders part time work.2 points

Some weekend for speedway! Moans from Leicester about poor racing on a dodgy surface -- and l'll draw a veil over Newcastle's misfortunes.... Meanwhile, Berwick staged a near-perfect meeting. It CAN be done.....2 points

Not really considering you've already blatantly broken the rules already this season and got away with it. Even with your team that should be illegal you still found a way to choke at Foxy hole2 points

So they obviously knew that there was a problem with the track but choose to run a meeting on a substandard track. If you ran a business providing a product that is not fit for purpose you will not be operating much longer..2 points

Do you think the riders can check every inch of the track? Maybe they should have picks and shovels to check it.2 points

Why do you think tractors go out after every four heats? To put the track back to somewhere near how it was to start with ! Track walks are to see what it’s like before the first heat and to work out bike set ups , which if you knew anything about bikes is quite important .2 points

Newcastle just need to shut up shop until a new owner comes along. Granty is just embarrassing the Sport this season and it's getting so bad even Newcastle fans have given up now.2 points

Wasn't the Newcastle license suspended last season due to track conditions? Until expert help was secured. If I recall at one point the bends were altered to make them wider to allow more passing. So that pic could very well be the kerb from the 20's never mind 70's. Surely should have been removed properly when that work was done? Imagine dysfunctional behaviour from a promoter desperate at any cost for home wins. Someone has created a monster. This won't end well.2 points

They wouldn’t have seen it on a track walk as it was covered with shale at the time . Have you not noticed the track gets worn each time it’s raced on !!!2 points

Not offended, just get so fed up with everyone having a go when they have no idea what goes into all the prep. Myself and Stewart are both licensed track curators, I do alot of the work in the week, with help from Sam, as Stewart is the manager and he talks to the riders constantly he has the last say on what we do to the track. Last night Andy Meredith was in control of the track as we had requested he came in to do the blade work. In a normal week it is normally me who does all the grading during the meeting, sometimes Sam or Hugh will grade as I have to do any watering. The tall guy in the cap as you describe him is unwell at the moment, so I am sure when he is feeling up to it he will be back. I did offer to go on the tractor but Stewart wanted to do it.2 points

Thats the thing with social media if your in the public eye. Someone will always say something negative, just have to ignore it.2 points

after ht 11 but the Glasgow manager and riders complained after ht 8 when it started to show2 points

no wonder was the total opposite he came into the pits after the race walked over to wright and had a quiet word then went and sat in his chair at the side of the pits2 points

Obvs not on the track so not sure about hole on 1st and 2nd corner. Most crashes apart from Basso on 4th bend seemed mainly rider error and the last crash before the call off had nothing to do with track. The track tonight was no worse than last few weeks and actually better with the race between Wethers, Starke and Basso race of the season. If there were numerous complaints during the meeting why did the clueless Graeme Hunter wait until heat 10? It makes it look a farce and the meeting should defo of been completed. They said more grading was going to take place and then 5 mins later it’s off. Would Glasgow of been as quick to want it off if they were behind??2 points

Nothing to do with the weather imo the weather has been pretty decent up here all week. Not sure who does the track now but we didn't really have any problems when Jonny Swales used to do it.2 points

Glad I made the decision to give it a miss today , best £100 I've saved in a while2 points

Seemingly the track was pretty crap last week .Senior riders would not let the Berwick juniors ride in 2nd half due to track conditions. The Control Board need to get up there and have a serious look at the track judged on what’s been happening.2 points

To be fair, Dick said it right last night… Good track prep and riders with positive mindframes= Berwick being one of the best tracks in the country to watch speedway! I don’t know what’s been done differently on the track this year… but seriously, there hasn’t been one bad meeting this year! The Bullets sit quite proudly top of the league so far with us having set the pace for people to mark up to again! Let’s just make sure we get to the play offs first and then it’s game on! I thought Belle Vue would be the team to get us at home… how wrong I was!2 points

As others have said probably one of the best meetings I have seen at Berwick in a while, full credit to all 13 riders for their entertainment. Started off with Kyle Bickley setting a new NDL track record in Ht1 but the star of the night was Greg Blair with some incredible over taking especially in Ht9 with a last to first, hopefully that race will be put onto social media later this week as it needs to be seen to be believed. Great night`s racing and those who decide to stay away and miss the Bullets matches need to get themselves there.2 points

4 out 15 FTG, you can’t pass at Berwick? That’s not what the stats say!2 points

Wow! That was an advert for the NDL! A superb meeting. How you wish Greg Blair misses the gate every heat! Simply superb to watch!2 points

I'm sure people on this forum know my feelings towards my TM so I've no doubt that's exactly right. And his comments about 1 pass does go against the updates1 point

Oh I didn’t realise it was you, now it makes sense. I didn’t actually say you don’t know what you are doing. I said it needs experience and time dedicating to it. I also pointed out it seems to be Stewart that does the work on race days or having to give you direction. I’ve also noticed that the tall guy in the cap isn’t there anymore. Maybe he’s fed up with it too. Why didn’t you get on the tractor last night and sort it out as you are the track curator ? I’m sorry if I have offended you but as a paying spectator I’m just voicing my opinion and saying what I see. I’ve actually praised the Leicester track in recent weeks if you bother too look.1 point

The whole U24 league was a total failure. Even the press on Polish sites were saying it's a write off. Too many riders way out of their depth and they wouldn't even cut it in our SGB Championship League.1 point
