Show me where I've said anything about wanting Birmingham to close. It's the absolute opposite and you're purely burying your head in the sand if you can't see the problems this could cause- not just for Birmingham, but the sport as a whole. My sticking point is that for all the goodwill and money the promotion put into Birmingham how on earth will it survive if its ripping off fans like this? No new fan will put up with it and the die hards will dwindle. We all need to be realistic and understand the average fan cannot be affording to lose money for nothing. With how often rain offs and crashes do occur in speedway, can we seriously not expect this to happen again? Bluntly, what has happened at Birmingham is a shambles and they need to do better. If Birmingham need a blue print of how to run a speedway team they need look no further than their opponents for this meeting. Berwick like Birmingham was once a club in trouble but their new promotion have worked theirs socks off on and off the track and not done it by cutting corners. And whilst they might not be the most cash rich side or field the best 1-7 in the league you can say with their involvement with the fans with the 5-1 draw, the dirt xtra and genuine effort to bring value to money to their fans in the double headers that they've thought outside the box and been rewarded with an incredibly loyal fan base.5 points

Indeed.... If they did it for free then that is "for our entertainment".... For so many it is their only job so they are professional sportsmen investing in very expensive kit to deliver a much greater return in earnings.... A "risky profession" no doubt, but so is Boxing, MMA, Skiing, Other motor sports etc... Not to mention Firefighting, Police, and the Armed Services... None of the above anyone does "for our entertainment"... Some do it for the money, some for the adrenaline rush... No more than that. ..4 points

I watched speedway at Halifax almost every Saturday night from the opening meeting in 1965 until closure in 1985 and therefore was witness to hundreds of races. As a superfan I think that qualifies me to comment on the quality of racing at Halifax over a long period of time and believe me, there was plenty of overtaking at the shay.4 points

Based on his performances at Lynn so far Josh Pickering is the kind of rider who will make people keep coming back, pure entertainment and a rider who gets people up on their feet and excited. They don't come around very often, in terms of excitement he appears to be in the same bracket as Lee, Gustafsson, Loram, Ward Lambert and to a lesser extent Parker and Nermark in their really good seasons. He seems completely suited to the Lynn track, it's perfect for him.4 points

Newcastle Speedway are pleased to announce, that from this week, all children under the age of 16 will be able to enter FREE of charge (with a paying adult)! This will continue to be the case for the remainder of this season. Let's share, spread the word and get more youngsters involved CHILD SEASON TICKETS: All child season ticket holders will be contacted via email, to arrange a refund of the difference. Hopefully this encourages a few more into Brough Park.3 points

Yeah. Can’t see us winning a match tbh. Changing a guy that was scoring nothing for a guy that will score at least 7 points a meeting won’t change things.3 points

Having rules open to interpretation is very much a GB Speedway thing.. All in the interest of Speedway obviously....3 points

No sure what your point is. Manchester also has the biggest British football team with an empty trophy cabinet. Greater Manchester also has one of the biggest British Rugby League teams with a currently empty trophy cabinet. Maybe it's just simply a case of 'hated or adored, but certainly never ignored'.3 points

3 newbies standing with us,dad and his 2 kids around 14 yrs old. They have now come to the first 2 meetings(enjoyed it last week).Would think the shift Pickering alone put in last week made them want to come back again yesterday. My daughters boyfriend went to speedway for the first time away at Peterborough and really enjoyed it and came to the home meeting. They couldn't make it yesterday as they are working away.It shows people can still enjoy the product if you can get the riders in like Pickering who they can enjoy to watch. It's not just his riding, but doesn't he enjoy bigging it up with the crowd.Must have to dig out my air horn from 35 years ago now.Are we still allowed to use them or are they outlawed now with many other things.3 points

There will be a fair few missing this week from what I've seen. What's not going to help is,, first league meeting against a strengthened Belle Vue,, lose that and it will be a case of here we go again. Me personally I would at least try and strengthen,, pull off the win against belle Vue,, totally different story2 points

Incorrect. There are no pay problems at Plymouth. Let's just call it 'Politics'.2 points

No, an injury replacement is permitted, as per the published rule. Quite obvious really because it would be pretty daft for a team not to be allowed to replace a rider that couldn’t ride through no fault of their own, wouldn’t it? A team that had nearly six months to put together a septet like everyone else, is a different kettle of fish entirely.2 points

He used to be but recent visits have been much better including 11 in Lewi's meeting and a paid double figure score for Poole when he last rode here. He's a very different rider nowadays to the one who rode for us in 2013.2 points

How have Plymouth managed to name Richard Lawson to guest again tonight having used him to guest last Tuesday as well? I haven't checked the 2022 SCB rules but is there no longer an 8-day ruling?? Or is it a BSPL sympathy rule? EDIT just checked and its ok when replacing the number 1!! (Eddie a number 1 - who would have thought it?)2 points

If Hawkins is happy with three heat wins from 12 races, and 21 out of 36 points for Doyle and Batchelor, then he's happy to lose matches.2 points

Genuine question - which rules have Belle Vue broken? You say rules (plural) rather than rule (singular), so I'm assuming you're saying that two or more have been broken. I'd be interested to know which rules, as the only rule I've seen mentioned that might have been broken is the '25%' rule. I’ve not checked the exact wording of that rule, but has even this been broken? As other posters have pointed out, signing a rider on a 28-day contract doesn’t really fit in with the ‘25%’ rule, but Belle Vue are not making a change to their declared 7. After Jake Allen’s 28-day contract expires Belle Vue have a team vacancy, and so only have a declared 6 rider team. Matej Zagar comes in to fill that vacancy. In this scenario, Belle Vue are not ‘dropping’ a permanent rider to bring in another. So, as such, the 'change' would not even be a 'change' as the '25% rule was intended to prevent I would have thought? But, if Belle Vue are breaking the rule to fill a vacancy with a different rider to that rider whose temporary contract has expired, then is a team that replaces an injured rider (and, say, out for the season) before 25% of the league fixtures have been completed also breaking the 25% rule? I suppose only the exact wording would give you the answer on both counts and, even then, is the rule written in such a way that it is open to an interpretation argument?2 points

thats not just Newcastle suffering though, its one team fewer for the league. We need more not less.2 points

This match and the return on Friday are a perfect example of why the bonus aggregate bonus point is worth revisiting in my opinion. I think both matches will end up 20 to 25 point home wins. Imagine the excitement if an aggregate bonus point were up for grabs. Indeed go a stage further, allow only reserve substitute rule and scrap tactical substitute rule and then every point every rider scores has more value.2 points

Something else that will keep people coming back is running the meeting at the pace they did last night. Credit where credits due, only one track grade, a quick interval and a track that offered more than one line. Some of the races literally got me out of my seat, and In Pickering we certainly have someone worth coming to watch.2 points

We might have a stand in on Saturday ahead of a formal announcement after Nigel's funeral has taken place. But if anyone is listening, what about our own Dave Goddard? Very knowledgeable, personable and engages with his audience well.2 points

Hans has both high,,, Rowe only has one high,, and that's so he has the throttle in a certain position in the corners,,, something he obviously found easier to control when learning,, but now it's a hinderence to moving body position and quick change of lines during bends. He Is sort of locked into one position because of it2 points

3 pts from 3 riders and Scunthorpe Scorpions go and get a bonus point at Plymouth tonight ,not many teams will get a bonus point at the Gladiators this season . Well done to all 7 riders it takes balls to put your leg over a speedway machine and race for our entertainment , ignore the internet warriors who have never sat on a bike1 point

By all account Niels said himself in the press conference after the meeting last night that he wants to stay for the season, it was just down to Poland. The main thing is he is up for riding over here. I’m more confident now that he’ll do the season.1 point

What a ridiculous reply!! Just shown both your replies to a former poster, and he laughed. 'Reminds me why I don't post anymore, this Steve fella is another on this forum who can't debate without resorting to insults'.1 point

Thanks for the condescending clarification. As I said, I hadn't read the rule's wording - and, I agree, it would be pretty daft!! But then, as Patryk Dudek says to begin virtually every interview, ....'this is speedway'. I know Mark Lemon attracts quite a lot of criticism - and I haven't agreed with his decision-making all the time - but has he broken any rules by taking so long to finalise his team? Obviously not if the signing of Matej Zagar has now been ratified. So, what exactly is the different kettle of fish entirely? Whilst the lack of concrete information coming out of the NSS might well have been frustrating for the Aces' fans, Lemon obviously chose to bide his time as he wasn't under any 'deadline' pressure to complete the line-up. We do know there were discussions to try and bring Dan Bewley back into the team (as Lemon himself discussed in full in the matchday programme) and also Tai Woffinden (as Tai himself went into great detail about more than once at the PCMT meeting). It must have then been decided to approach Matej Zagar, but his availability was subject to him obtaining the necessary visa - so Lemon signed another rider, Jake Allen, for a 28-day period to fill the team place whilst this was being processed. All within the rules it would appear. The League Cup has seemingly been 'sacrificed' so that all this could happen, and the Aces slipped to two home last heat decider defeats. Jake obviously hasn't had the start to the season he would have wanted – but other riders in the team have struggled to find consistent scoring too so far. So, in fairness to him, the losses haven't all been down to Jake's scoring - or lack of. Anyway, we now wait to see if / when the other 5 teams start getting the same kind of criticism that has been levelled at Belle Vue, and Mark Lemon in particular. If we find one or more teams making a change after 25% of their league matches, then maybe they'll attract criticism for signing up poor-performing riders so quickly, and some might say that they should have taken more time to assemble their team in much the same way as Belle Vue have??1 point

Transponders do not relay speeds, They relay the time taken between each time it passes the receiving device. Similarly, speedway bikes do not follow an exact route each lap so the speed cannot be calculated as it is not known how far the bike has travelled (speed = distance/time) On MotoGP bikes (as an example) speed and other similar types of data are recorded "on bike" and downloaded/extracted when the rider returns to the pit as "live" telemetry is not allowed in MotoGp (it is in F1 and the cost of such equipment would furnish the speedway GP paddock with a new bike for each meeting) To get that data collected and sorted into quick to read format for each bike the following is the approx numbers required for the "on bike tech" Number of sensors = 50 Number of channels circa 1000, 600 managed by the ECU & 400 managed by the software. Amount of data managed 60GB Length of cables on a bike 150m Just put a camera on the line - then the winner is there for all to see - as per Moto GP & F1 A1 point

I’ve heard this said so many times since we restarted last season. We have tried Bjarne Pedersen, Kenneth Bjerre, Dan Bewley ect ect but just can’t get it over the line - Really? Does this sound familiar NUFC fans from our former owner?. It’s like Mike Ashley saying we tried to sign Ronaldo but offering a 50k transfer fee and £20 a week wages :). Making headline moves are nothing if they are not feasible to start with. The old chestnut of Poland will no doubt be raised as to why we don’t strengthen but the question still remains as to why we built a side nearly 3 points under the limit in the first place? I feel sorry for the lads, they are expected to punch above their level every meeting and that is just to get us a chance to compete never mind to have a chance of winning. This is nothing to do with the lads, they are trying their best but any speedway fan knew that we were not strong enough to compete and it’s worrying that after only one home league match we are already in this situation. I am glad we still have a team to support but that doesn’t change the fact that to keep the crowds healthy then the product needs to be good enough. Unfortunately, the team isn’t competitive, the racing is average, the presentation is awful and the overall product is not worth £18. That is reflective in the crowd numbers and it’s worries me that the public silence from the promotion does not lend itself to the fan base keeping faith. We have more named guests for this weekend so no chance of any immediate changes but let’s see what the promotions ambitions are for the club in the next week or so. I hope we see a couple of changes to make us competitive, especially at home but I am pessimistic to whether any change(s) will indeed improve the balance of the side ahead of the rest of the season.1 point

I'll put your name on one then Tellboy . But seriously, it wouldn't hurt Buster to give 10 away at home meetings, or even sell them for cost. It would definitely up the atmosphere around the place. At 58 i'm to old have one , i think, but do like to hear them.1 point
