Berwick don’t go well at Armadale normally is such an out of date and ill informed statement. Theo Pijper and Ricky Wells have both won titles for the monarchs, Wells scored 14 last season in the play offs, Chris Harris scored paid double figures both times last season for Birmingham, Jye Etheridge got paid for double figures from number 1 at Armadale last season, he’s going to be at reserve on Friday, Leon scored paid 14 guesting for Plymouth last season, Proctor normally only scores a couple, as does Bickley, but Kyle got to ride the track last week so should have a bit of an advantage. We should be looking to win on Friday, and it will be a failure if we don’t pick up a point minimum imo.5 points

Although I was a plonker and wasted a gallon of fuel and an hour and a half of my time last night....looking at the photos, I'm really pleased to see that the management had the good sense to call last nights meeting off. Who would of wanted to watch racing on that type of surface, also who knows what lasting damage it could have done to the track. Great call ! Fingers crossed for next week!4 points

The first meeting done & dust free (mostly). Some good racing with places swapping on a regular basis. It would not be fair to find fault after all concerned put in a sterling effort. this was the first night & a lot was going on with all sorts of presentations the biggest of course the return of Hans Nielsen to Cowley. I think next week will be run swifter & hopefully in front of another big crowd. Get your tickets early it could sell out again with the current champions on track2 points

My brother was very impressed with what he saw...well done to all those who got speedway back at Cowley!2 points

The problem at the moment, is that the gap between the Premier League & Championship is too small, and the gap between the Championship & National League is too large. With Premier heat leaders riding in the championship, only the very talented riders stepping up from the National League stand a chance. The Championship standard should be more like the Newcastle team this year, which would give riders similar to those above, a chance to score some points and progress. Also, doubling up needs to be gradually reduced, initially only allowing riders who do not ride in any overseas leagues to double up. Imagine in the 1970's allowing top first division riders to ride in the second division !!2 points

Opening fixtures normally attract big crowds. Matches against Northern teams normally attract visiting fans desperate to see their team in action. Yet for some reason this match has been chosen to be one of Glasgow's streamed meetings. This is likely to result in few if any diamonds fans making the journey north which would be a shame as they are a good lot, normally. Surely a meeting between the Tigers and Poole or Plymouth for example is the type of meeting that should be streamed. Anyway a comfortable home win for the Tigers is the prediction with very few viewers watching the stream.1 point

His replacement won that heat as well,, maybe its a new Hawkins tactic,,,,, Cam,, go get some chips will ya1 point

Any truth in the rumour that Heeps missed heat 8 as he was stuck in the queue for chips ???1 point

Lots of pressure on Aarnio then as he’s been signed on home form alone and is straight in at number 5.1 point

Probably judging by how they've started the season but you never know, we have enough riders who can get round the EoES well enough!1 point

Ippo promotion getting Cam Heeps in on mates rates due to them using most of the team budget on Jason Doyle.1 point

More confident than I but reckon it’s going to be very close. Fantastic it’s sold out again so quickly. I really hope the Oxford promotion all the success possible. Except when they are riding against us! Fans of both clubs knew it would sell out so if they hadn’t got their tickets, tough luck. Will we see ticket touts outside Cowley next week? There’s a thought!1 point

Hopefully the meeting will be re-arranged in the summer on a date that will bring in a very large crowd.1 point

I always enjoyed my trips to both, but my recollection is of Odsal being the better race track. I remember the steep banking of the Shay, and Kenny Carter being nigh on unbeatable. Of the two, I probably have fonder memory of the Shay, but don't recall that the racing was brilliant, and the dvds I have of meetings there seem to support that.1 point

"Mourinho" trying to pull a fast one with his riding order lol. I like having your number 2 in averages at 4, might slightly weaken heat 13 but gives you strong 14 and 151 point

It is good for that,,, I just like being higher up looking down.. Its one of those strange things about speedway fans,, that we all like a different type of view,, I have never understood why people like standing behind a bend,,, especially when they brought air fences in,, at some tracks you can only see helmets.1 point

Good to see the coverage that Oxford Speedway is generated. Local BBC + ITV coverage - this should be standard for the sport but an excellent effort at getting the sport promoted. Certainly the pits and grandstand from the videos look smart enough. Any new venue / club or attempt to promote should be applauded.1 point

Yeah those were the days, Kings Lynn home and away on a Good Friday or an Easter Monday.1 point

Was going to say myself that I’m not sure how big a crowd they’d get in once they saw how many guests and R/R being on show. Separating race days/nights between the 2 leagues is a necessary evil at the moment unfortunately with the amount of riders riding in both leagues. Mind you, not sure why this fixture couldn’t have been moved to Monday afternoon? Doesn’t seem to be a stocks meeting coming up1 point

The Blosers in North Brum. You're having a laugh. Over half the 40k seats for the games are temporary. It'll never happen, simply because the Alex is the premier stand alone Athletics stadium in the country. The headquarters of UK Athletics is based there. They don't need to share it with anyone. More chance of BCFC sharing with Solihull Moors!1 point

Short sighted in my opinion. Especially if you're looking to attract a new (neutral) audience via streaming. That's why the product needs to be good. Would you pay to watch the Diamonds get humiliated at Glasgow on Friday night? Ultimately if you strangle the life out of the opposition they'll disappear and there'll be even fewer teams. Just look at MotoGP and F1. They place restrictions on teams because they could see the product becoming boring with only a few riders/drivers able to win due to their financial clout. Which lead to some manufacturers leaving the series. You have to look at the wider product. Sport is about jeopardy. And lets face it how much of a thrill is winning a national speedway league? I remember the Diamonds win in 2001 and it was a great night but I didn't spend the rest of the year talking about it in the pub with my mates. It barely made the local news and didn't seem to have a significant impact on crowd levels like it probably did in the 70's. It's the ultimate cheap thrill so why damage the product for the sake of winning something nobody cares about anymore?1 point

Perhaps the promotion should have contacted Andy who streams weekly from Poole and Plymouth. I very much doubt he would have charged anywhere near that.1 point

THE Campaign Group are pleased to confirm our planning application for the regeneration of Brandon Stadium is now live – and now we need your help. The consultation period set by Rugby Borough Council runs until May 6, and all messages of support sent to the Planning Officer will be of vital importance. Full details of how to make your voice heard follow later in this communication, but firstly a reminder of what this application is and why we have submitted it. We first went public with our intentions last summer, at which point we ran our own consultation process and revised our plans based on feedback from local residents, which was almost universally positive. Our application was submitted to the Council earlier this year, and after going through the appropriate processes it is now active and can be viewed via the following link: https://planning.agileapplications.co.uk/rugby/application-details/34048 The most relevant documents to view are the Planning Statement, the Regeneration of Coventry Stadium, and the Statement of Community Involvement, but brief details follow below. Our application seeks to change the use of various buildings at the stadium in order to provide additional community-based facilities in addition to the return of speedway and stock car racing. It should be noted that the return of motorsport does not form part of the application as no planning permission is required for this – it is already the established use of the site. The fundamental changes are that Hangar No.1 on the stadium frontage will be converted into a museum celebrating the history and heritage of speedway and stock car racing at Brandon; the under-stand bar will be converted into a gymnasium incorporating treatment rooms and a climbing wall (open to the local community); and the former dog kennels will be converted into a bar and catering outlet. Further arising from these changes, the dog track will be resurfaced to become a cycle track, with cycle speedway and other cycling-related activities taking place. A large proportion of the tarmac infield will be re-surfaced to allow for the staging of equine events. The Great Britain Speedway Team will relocate their training base from Loughborough University Elite Athlete Centre to Brandon and form a Centre of Excellence, including their Academy system for developing youth riders through established programmes. One question which may well be asked is, why submit a planning application on a site we do not own? The answer is to clearly demonstrate that a viable alternative exists to the policy favoured by the current owners, which has been to shamefully facilitate the destruction of the stadium and cause maximum grief for residents via non-existent security, and to then attempt to use the condition of the stadium as a reason to support a planning application aimed squarely at the building of houses which are not required by the Local Plan. Our application is endorsed by businessman Warren Hunter, whose offer to buy the stadium remains neither accepted nor rejected nearly two years on, and it also has the support of numerous international, national and local companies, as well as individual tradespeople, all willing to provide time, materials and skills to rebuild the stadium. So how can you help? The answer is to send an e-mail or letter in support of this application to: erica.buchanan@rugby.gov.uk or Erica Buchanan, Rugby Borough Council, Evreux Way, Rugby CV21 2RR. This response should quote reference number R22/0071 and be submitted before May 6. It is important to state here that what is not required is a comparison between our application and that of the developers. You are not being asked to make a choice between the two, and the application will be judged on its own merits regardless of the current Brandon Estates submission. Please concentrate on the positives of this application, which will provide upgraded facilities to assist health and well-being in the local community, as well as re-opening the stadium as the UK’s top oval motorsports facility. We believe our proposals represent the most sustainable use of the site, and are entirely consistent with both the recently adopted Local and Neighbourhood Plans, as well as fully complying with policies in the National Planning Policy Guidelines, and are consistent with the wishes of the vast majority of the local population. Please show your support for this application to the e-mail or postal address shown above. A reminder of the deadline, which is May 6.1 point
