Last minute decision to go to Berwick on Saturday , my own track doesn't open till the 15th so was getting impatient. But it turned out a good decision as it was pretty decent for an early season meeting . It never really told us much , we know Berwick look a solid outfit , and sadly while Josh Auty is riding a lawn mower Birmingham lack the fire power to make much of an impact away from Perry Barr . Berwick can make early season hay with Etheridge at reserve and will dish out thumpings at Shielfield while that remains the case.6 points

That's a bit negative, think you better shaddup your face, although if BWD doesn't improve its goodnight Vienna to any hope of a No1 slot.5 points

And yet they are still winning at a canter. They are going to be a tough nut to crack at the EoES once again. Early season gremlins for Andersen I'm sure.3 points

Flappy to busy flapping about Basso when really should have been worrying about Hans! Zero?3 points

Yes there is certainly a shortage of riders but hopefully Polish rules maybe relaxed and more Scandinavians can be found? Losing the Shay was a massive blow not only to speedway but in the long run landlords Halifax FC also suffered. I'm convinced that had ways been worked out to keep speedway going at the Shay in the mid 80's then it would likely still be running there now cause that place was always well supported!2 points

I don't think anyone's saying get rid of them now!! I think it's just a 'oh no here we go again' moment we've had to get used to so much over the last 5 years or so... Maybe even longer for some of the older fans... Just sick of not having proper out and out number 1s in the team kinda thing... But I guess we're the lucky ones because we actually have a team As for Ben Barker... I am a massive fan of him, Plymouth being my second home, I've seen him a lot down there... However it was plainly obvious that Ben did not want to be at Newcastle last season even before the tapes went up on the very first meeting... He tried to get out of it enough times anyway... He's VERY talented and VERY spectacular to watch, but he'll never make it as a big time rider, because he's a nutcase... Still love watching him though, particularly on small and tight tracks... Balls of steel And if BWD does read this forum (which I highly doubt) he's not hated already and it's nothing personal against him, it's not his fault he's been given a ridiculously inflated average... However I don't think us Newcastle fans particularly appreciate giving up after 3 laps or so, so hopefully that stops by next week... Even Ludvig, who was amazing around Brough, got hate for that...2 points

I'm not exactly feeling the love for BWD; I hope he doesn't read these Boards. Why don't we see how it goes in the next few weeks? I think - hope - most of the Diamonds faithful will be willing him (and George) to succeed. Me in particular as I have 500 inflatable Kiwis on order... On a different note, did anyone else think yesterday that maybe it's a pity it didn't work out with BB? Still, that's water under the bridge now.2 points

Even if the Council have a developer ready and waiting with a Plan that would require approval, I cannot see anything happening until 2024 at the very earliest - and thats without any formal protests, objections and/or legal challenges!!2 points

It's all well & good saying that changes need to be made ! But the thing is where are the riders going to come from as with being a Sunday track we all know how hard it is getting a out & out number 1 rider in as a majority of the riders Rob tried to get in last season are fixed up this season already so we need to get behind the current team & enjoy the rest of the season..2 points

Teams from the official site:- WOLVERHAMPTON: Sam Masters, Luke Becker, Nick Morris, Ryan Douglas, Steve Worrall, Drew Kemp, Leon Flint.SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Craig Cook, Tobiasz Musielak, Kyle Howarth, Adam Ellis, Stefan Nielsen, Connor Mountain. Looking at the Tigers line-up it is clear to see why they are league favourites (with the bookies at least), Cook at 2! This will certainly be a stern test.I look forward to seeing Kyle Howarth again, he was a fine team man during his stint with Wolves, never gave less than 100% and was exciting to watch. Holder is no track expert but can get round well enough. Cook during his Belle Vue days gave us problems at Monmore.Musielak is another old boy and Ellis is more than quick enough, although he tends to rely on his gating. Perhaps we need Kemp and Flint to outscore their opposite numbers to give us a chance. A tight encounter, with hopefully a Wolves win, 2-4 points ?1 point

Ah yes but didn't work for BV last year. I mean Wolves could do that but his form for Poole needs to be good then, so he doesn't lose confidence too much. I just think it would be better for him to start at 3.1 point

Thank you for the correction. That's what you get for trusting Wikipedia eh? But despite the erroneous logic, I still think "The Peterborough Pensioners" has a certain ring to it1 point

I was only joking! Still shocked he didn't get anything at Peterborough. Ah well no time for rest or to over analyse, Plymouth tomorrow and Poole Weds.1 point

Basso is a superstar. What we really need to worry about is our 3 & 4 pairing on highly inflated averages due to a spell at reserve in 2021.1 point

Several months ago a new free newspaper the "Chronical" was launched, it is I believe distributed around the whole West Midlands, this week it featured a full page article on Wolverhampton Speedway and there has been a couple of other reports on Wolves. A few months back it featured a full page article on the fight to get Speedway back at Cradley. So far not a single word on the Brummies. This paper is pushed through every letterbox in the districts surrounding the stadium, someone is missing a trick , please note, Mr Tolley1 point

depends which forecast you look at! few showers in morning ( saves John watering) then dry from 2 with a possible shower after 9/10 . Negative postings don't help with weather !!1 point

Plenty of parking, they are opening up a field on the left as you drive into the 'stadium'. Other tips. Bring a chair if you want to sit down. Bring an extra coat if its cold and try the burgers the one I had at p & p was lovely.1 point

From what I read, it seems Poland would lift its restrictions but UK would no longer have any protected nights = riders would need to ride in Poland even if it clashed with a UK match.1 point

Aye, doesn't seem to be having a great welcome to the North East. Having beef with other riders and now the fans is getting on his case, give him a chance,,, he's only been here a fortnight or summit on an inflated average. Look at Crump last year, come in on a 12 and left on about a 6!!!1 point

If BWD does improve, you'll be dancing with tears in your eyes.1 point

Yeah, didn't say or imply it would. Was just replying to 'jaizer',,, but like 'cpc' guy has said, it's not like the proper no.1's are queueing up doon the Fossway to get in.1 point

Add Peterborough to that list, he's good on the tracks that you don't have to turn the bike too hard. Championship heat leader in your 3rd season racing is a hell of an ask but I am sure with more experience he will master the tighter tracks.1 point
-
I think Palin is very overated. Godfrey expects him to be a heat leader, but his away average was far lower than his home ave last year. Take him away from Belle Vue or Scunthorpe & he's effectively a reserve!1 point

I reckon 7-9 easy around Newcastle1 point

So very sorry to hear about this Mimmo. If I was in the area, I'd love to be able to drop you off at the front door of the stadium a couple times a year, just so you can enjoy your meetings at Peterborough again. It's a track I've never visited RIP to your wife1 point

Bit early to be judging scunny as a #### team just yet imo Dissapointing result last night of cause, but it was our first meeting of the season - and we really couldn't have wished for tougher opposition, and at Leicester, a track we never peform well on. Leicester already had a couple of meetings so was less race-rusty. There wont me many if any teams go to Leicester this season and pick up any league points imo. Scunny will improve i'm sure!1 point

Ok after 20yrs I thought I better register and post and clear this Eurosport/discovery+ thing up . The Grand prixs WILL be shown live on Eurosport 2 and on discovery+ the only difference is Eurosport will show commercials after every 4 heats etc while discovery+ won't have any commercials and will have cameras in the pits . Hope this clears everything up1 point

That's OK I'm not offended , just thought i would highlight the important issue in my mind. Bees fans in large numbers are patiently waiting & hoping for a chance to see their club back in action. Brum have stated they need people to attend in larger numbers, tonight had it gone ahead tonight would have very likely kept all parties happy.1 point
-
Meaningless to you perhaps. Had the weather not deteriorated I'm pretty certain that there would have been a strong turnout of Bees fans which would have helped make the evening a success for the new Brum promotion in terms of crowd levels which I would imagine is very important to them, so not completely meaningless really.1 point

I don't envy you that bit of research. Glad you did though. Makes interesting reading. I kinda feel like I should have got Mort too. What is also says to me is what a stalwart Chris Harris has been for each club. I've seen him copping some flak on here many times. But he truly is a throwback rider, never giving less than 100% for each club. Plus delivering some of the most exciting moments in league speedway in the modern era.1 point
