  2. Hi All, We have already held several My First Skid sessions following the flood. The track is in first class shape. Other little bits that needed repairing following the burst are being done as and when materials/volunteers are available working with the loss adjuster from Southern Water who have been very good. now we look forward to more MFS (this Thursday and every 2 weeks) before starting another action packed speedway adventure from June 23rd. Many thanks and I trust you are all well and looking forward to the start of the season with your local clubs. All the best, Barry

  3. I remember listening to a tennis commentary on the radio. They try to describe the shot, and by the time they've half explained it the other person has returned so they have to cut themselves off and start describing the other shot. It's hilarious.

  6. Thanks for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated. These are our first efforts in the Podcast world so still finding our feet as such, but we take on board all comments, whether positive or negative and try to improve. We like to think as the season progresses it will go from strength to strength.

  9. Out of interest, does anyone know the availability of Marcus Birkemose, the 2020 European u21 Champion? I know he's a squad rider in Denmark (same team as Ulrich Ostergaard) but I've not yet seen that he's signed for anyone in Poland or Sweden. Another rider without too many "foreign" commitments would be Oskar Paluch, the almost 16 year-old Polish junior, and 2021 250cc European Champion. One for the back burner should Birmingham's season get past June when Paluch will be old enough to ride in the Championship. Mind you, that really would be showing ambition, wouldn't it?

  10. I really disliked Peter York’s on field commentary….however years ago I used to watch racing at Claremont in Australia and the on track commentary was superb and really added to the night…..it never works over here though

  11. Don't think you'd want it to be any more than twelve quid though.

  20. It's not an easy job commentating at all. I've had a couple of very small dabbles at it. It's really not easy at all. You can plan, but are ultimately on the hoof. You are there to be shot at for what you say in the immediacy of a moment. I think speedway is pretty lucky in this regard. Back in the day, Dave Lanning called it brilliantly and I think Nigel and Kelvin are very good too. Pearson's voice suits the fast moving nature of the sport and he and Tatum have obvious chemistry. Of course, it's horses for courses...what works for speedway wouldn't work for other sports. Peter Allis, for example, was perfect for golf...

  21. Another worry I would have if I was a brummies fan is absolutely no news on any sponsors either existing or new ones. Especially as the promotion made it clear when they took over how crucial this would be to survive

  22. Was going to say something similar, there isn't time between shots for tennis commentators to say what they are trying to say on the wireless and it ends up sounding a complete mess.

  24. I always find listening to commentary of Tennis on the radio completely pointless... although silence on the radio doesn't work well either

  25. Everything was new to Palin last year including most of the tracks, the second year is usually the one in which you see real improvement and I and a lot of others expect him to show it. He learned a hell of a lot last year, the fact that he rides for the same teams again is a big clue as well.

  26. Every time he opened his mouth he was annoying, especially when he forgot which track he was supposed to be at. I do actually think it's a difficult job, especially in speedway where you've got to fill a lot of dead time and there's only so many things you can say about four riders going around in circles. I didn't find him too bad as a deejay years ago, albeit a bit Smashie and Nicey, but it was better when he just read out the results at the speedway.

You're spot on TINYSLast November I'd purchased tickets for Wales rugby matches at the Principality Stadium and were paperless,so only way of entry was via the Principality App and a COVID passport! My Father in his late 70s got extremely agitated as he hasn't got a smartphone or even an internet connection(no PC) was at a complete loss on how he was going to attend.A real stress which is unnecessary Whoever makes these decisions on this is how it's gonna be needs a good kicking imoCan anyone tell me what's wrong with having a ticket/tickets sent in the post ,available to collect on the day of the event,or print at home

  30. Definately wasn't. Sure its been like that for a couple of seasons.

  31. I think Cram and either Howie or Lockhart are great commentators, they raise their voices only when necessary - which was not often. The guys who do all the snowboard cross/snowboarding stuff are very excitable, but that fits in with the vibe of the sport so makes perfect sense. My real beef is with commentators who can't speak English properly. John Jackson, the 'colour commentator' for the sliding sports could barely get through a sentence without the English language taking a pummelling. I'm not a pedant, but a constant stream of 'lines what they're driving' 'good starts what they're making' type comment is fairly unbearable.

  32. I think Jonathan Pierce started all the shouty commentary we get today. I remember, at one time, he was seen as something of a comedy value novelty with his excessive way, but now just blends in with all the others. You need commentary for speedway. I, for one, want to know who is who as I don't fill in a race card when it's on television. And on televised sport it adds something for me. Nigel and Kelvin do a reasonable job in my opinion. The best sport for "non-commentary" is probably tennis. You don't get it during the rallies really, but they then discuss things during the gaps.

  37. I have not seen much of the Winter Olympics but I have no problem at all with Nigel Pearson and Kelvin Tatum…at least they sound enthusiastic and try and promote racing to a casual viewer….and producers want enthusiasm in commentary now, times have changed from old style commentary so if you don’t follow then you are replaced.

  39. I agree that Jack Millen was extremely hard - his battles with Frank Auffret were something to behold. No love lost there at all!

  40. Jack Millen stands out a mile over all others off & on track..........hard as nails on both.....underrated as a rider.........yet a great bloke taken to early, RIP crazy jack.

  41. Bob Ferry has written two books on the late Jack Millen. "Crazy Jack" and "Millen, Both Sides Of The Track". As well as doing an article on him in one of the early additions of Backtrack.
