The problem Brum would always have to overcome was the 21 years between The Wheels and the return to Perry Barr. After the initial burst of interest at the start in 2007, the crowds settled down to mainly the old fans and a few newbies, unfortunately dwindling gradually over the years. Speedway is a sport that no longer captures the imagination of the sporting public. How you attract new fans and returnees in that climate I'll never know.5 points

You appear to have absolutely no idea what your talking about. Perhaps you should learn about the stadium set up and who runs what before you make uneducated , sweeping statements .4 points

We have Oxford back. Newcastle and Birmingham are still running. It's important we don't talk the sport down. Times are tough and money is tight but speedway is still a reasonable option in these times. It's not as expensive as football and some other sports. I just hope that the promoters think about this and give value for money - decent tracks, promptly run meetings, some s smiling faces when I buy a programme or a drink - and no last minute cancellations. Oh and have a word with the riders about making sure they turn up properly prepared. I personally cannot understand why people on this forum don't attend meetings. This is a speedway forum after all!2 points

Mark was a good rider, not that it has anything to do with someones's ability to run a speedway club2 points

What a pathetic post that is, did you ever see Mark Lemon ride? Where did you get third rate from?2 points

We have the best track and stadium in the UK and what has improved at the club over the past 5 years is very little. Crowds have not increased, no significant sponsors on board. Catering at the stadium is a joke. BV have given up running the stadium now, we are back to square one and deep in debt…and now we have a third rate speedway rider in charge…what could possibly go wrong..!!!2 points

I'm sure some positive pr before 2023 will help, but don't think they'll be a lot of bad feeling anyway. Perhaps we could burn an effergy of a certain someone on the centre green during press and practice to expel the ghost? Too radical maybe .2 points

He wasn’t there to run the ‘ speedway ‘, he was there to run the business side of the club, which he did extremely well, Lemo is the speedway side. Considering the obstacles in their way and the fact they are still running, they appear to have done ok so far and as some one who has had dealings with Adrian, he is a top class businessman .2 points

Been told the track work is near completion. So when the team is complete and I'm sure it will be sorted soon, will have a good track to race on. That's got to be a positive. Sure all be OK in the end .2 points

Im still hoping for a competitive side to be created (as a poor team does nobody any favours) but i do feel a burst of honesty would be refreshing from the club. An announcement of we missed out on a few captures due to confidence in the club and we wont break the bank to sign riders. Our goal is to get through the season and build on foundations.......rather than the spiel that we are still looking to build a play off team blah blah. I genuinely hope that a rabbit or two contacts the club but i do feel if they were even in the wind the rumours would be out and circulating.2 points

The whole sport has gone not only backwards over the past 5 years but actually into free fall.1 point

Surely, bspa should have used that money to pay Eastbourne debts? I mean even just ethically its correct thing to do (I know bspa and ethics what am I thinking)1 point

I also had ‘dealings’ with Smith and found him to be arrogant and frankly clueless! How you can say he’s a top class businessman with club losses and debts running at many many hundreds of thousands of pounds and the club going backwards over the past 5 years. Sadly for BV Lemon is not fit to run the club as he has proved with his poor team management.1 point

Sad about Les Fineing, seem to have been a lot of supporters/sponsors lost to us and other clubs over the last year.1 point

I have no doubt the club/management will be doing all they can to get things over the line.... Seeing/hearing about all the work that's going on with the track/stadium is inspiring.1 point

Surely most that will be gone now Ian Jordan has shown he was not a man of his word paying up all the bills and1 point

I appreciate what you say. I think though that the "sponsorship" bridges have to be crossed as you come to them. The Brummies gained a crappy reputation thanks to its former owners for not paying some foreign riders. The current owners have stated that the finances are on a knife-edge and have not yet demonstrated that there's money in the pot through new sponsorship to pay riders this year either. If you were sat at home in Denmark, or Germany or wherever, would that be an enticing prospect to you, not knowing if your efforts were going to be rewarded or not? Contrast this to previous years when there were plenty of announcements about new sponsors (Mercon, Selco, Edwards et al...) This year - zip. The only sponsorship announcement this year was about the Bulls MDL team. Even the Edwards Plumbing adverts have been removed off the web site which now features less than half a dozen adverts in total. If the riders aren't willing to come over to ride for a team, not knowing whether or not they are going to be paid, then you aren't going to get as far as the visa sponsors license issue.1 point

Pavel Karnas passed away 14.02.2022 after a long illness. He was a member of the Czech team for many years & has always supported his club at Pardubice. He will be greatly missed. best wishes to his family & friends.1 point

According to details on the app terms and conditions the millennium stadium is now fully ticket less. meaning you have to have the app to show your tickets, can see this causing allsorts of issues to old and young people a like as we are not all good on smart phones, it does say if you lose charge on your phone the ticket office may be able to help on the day, just imagine the que. I have bought tickets for other older people, thought I could print tickets out. Now gonna have to try and help them download the app so I can send a link to upload tickets so they can get into the stadium !!! Oh the joys of technology give me printed tickets any day Also said tickets released around 3 weeks before the event1 point

I’m really going to miss Eastbourne in the league this season but good luck to everyone involved trying to get them back on track. Just out of interest, did the riders eventually get was owed to them?1 point

I don't think for a minute that there would be any ongoing track work happening if they didn't have enough riders to start the season or to not run at all....1 point

I think there will be mixed views on this. He’s certainly been part of the team that has kept BV alive since the bankruptcy of the previous promotion, but they’ve not really moved things forward, have they? Part of the original concept for the NSS was that it was to be a training hub for young riders, operated by BV. That never happened and it was only because of the hard work of Ian Sinderson (ATPI) Richard Cotton (Rentruck) and a whole host of others through “No Limits” that any training took place at the NSS. Ultimately, the bulk of the training took place away from the NSS as the rent requested by BV made it non-viable for No Limits. If you look at what Glasgow, Berwick and Isle of Wight have done in the last few years, and compare that to the efforts of BV, the picture, to me, is one of under achievement. Perhaps if there is a change of management, and at the moment, it’s not clear if Mr Smith has just stood down as a promoter, then progress on all fronts - promotion, community involvement and training - will be made.1 point

Lots of challenge about the operating model, and how change was needed to move the sport forward as he saw the operating model as something that prevented growth rather than something which encouraged and ultimitely facilitated it.. The sport does seem to lose far too many decent, modern thinking people all too frequently.. Whilst keeping many of those who appear "quite happy" with their lot...1 point

As far as im aware nothing has been paid back to anybody and the Company that Ian Jordan ownes (Eastbourne Eagles Ltd) is still active Sadley, Les fineing passed away last week, a great supporter of the club and a fine man0 points

NOT a surprise really, the big surprise it took so long. BV has been badly managed by these to clowns. Smith knew nothing about speedway and judging by the losses at bv next to nothing about business. Lemon who’s clueless about business and by bv results and team management knows very little about running a speedway team. At the bottom line you have to look at the owners off bv for making very poor appointments in a sport and business the know nothing about. Clearly they thought they could make a quick profit and how wrong have they been. Lemon in charge is yet another serious desperate blunder. Where this will take bv is anybody guess but the future looks very uncertain.0 points
