  1. I lived in US for 22 years until last week, now back home in Oxford. I would have given my right arm for the BSPA to find a way of monetising my interest. Would happily have paid. I think there are a lot of interested expats like me who currently generate £0 revenue for speedway.

  2. The issue could be that alongside a largely unknown quantity at reserve was going ro be James Wright who would be one of the leagues strongest reserves and would have been available to cover rides for any of the 1-5 who are struggling (specifically Complin). Now its an unknown and a returning unknown at reserve which further weakens the makeup of the side.

  5. Not that at all The last 2 could be poor granted. But only if they fail in there bid for a top rider. No point in rushing now. Its not like other teams will steal these riders. There is no need to rush

  6. Maybe for one match passes but if I've paid an annual/monthly subscription I'd be a bit miffed if then I was blocked from watching my local teams home matches. The fact that matches are going to be spread across all the venues should minimise lost home revenue. Totally understand if individual clubs are streaming all their home matches that they'd want to exclude local purchases but disappointing if the BSN did likewise.

  7. Rogers has said that he knows the final three riders he wants, and is working on the deals - just lots of speculation about who they might be. It makes a change for British speedway that people actually don't seem to know who they are!

  8. Conversely if Lee, who I think has been given a assessed 5 point average, if he hits form from the start he will still be very handy to have at reserve for taking others rides. If a 5.00 it make us start understrength again by 1.51.

  9. 100% has to be the way forward.. However... Due to Brexit, gone are the days of bringing West/East European and Scandinavian journeymen over on a "no risk" basis.. The no risk basis being that that these four and five point men would have been in an almost inexhaustible supply pre Brexit, meaning one in, then one out if it didnt work out, was the operating model... It is no coincidence I am sure that after Brexit, Speedway promoters in the top two leagues suddenly discovered that we had a good many UK riders in Division 3... Riders obviously who had gone unnoticed for decades when the UK promoters were bringing over any European or Scandinavian that even remotely looked like they could handle a Speedway bike.. Until there are enough riders for the teams the current situation can be the only way the sport can be ran... And the way that the 2nd Div have already dispensed with the RS scheme after just one season suggests it will be the same for a long time to come.. (Providing there are enough teams to run the sport as a team entity long term obviously)....

  10. Fairly sure Keleher finished the 2021 season on only 4.05, looking at plymouth's (issue 24) averages. Interesting that he's not been 'snapped up' anywhere else??

  11. I think speedway lost it's way completly when the TV got involved. We used to get a parade at 7:15 & the first race at 7:30 now your lucky to see a race before 7:50 at some tracks. Following this will be a 10 minute grading sessions & an interval after Ht 10 for another 20 minutes then a 10 minute wait to decide who will race in Ht 15. We need to get back to running the slick show that made Speedway popular & throw the TV handbook in the bin. Four blokes going sideways around an oval how can that be complicated. If it's done properly speedway is the most exciting motor cycle sport ever & it's ideal for TV. But unfortunetly they slowed it down & what we used to see in 90 minutes now takes two & a half hours at some tracks

  13. Great News According to the Brummies web site, Stefan Nielsen will be fit and ready for the start of the season - http://www.birmingham-speedway.com/_mobile/news.php?extend.3111 Was there a doubt over this?

  16. Pity Sam Jensen couldn’t have been persuaded to come over this season. Would still have been a couple of points under but I feel there is more improvement to come plus has a never give up attitude. Still a decent side though regardless.

  19. Don't panic LR has it all in hand. He's told everybody that a month ago. Best not to speculate on riders like Becker. Because the riders LR has or will end up will be a big let down. #AUTYFORNUMBER1

  20. How would that work ? Looking at the picture in the Star this week, they seem to use a permanent mixing deck located above the front stand at the Edinburgh track.

  22. In most cases it I his fair to say that the reason usually is they are scared of the backlash, the last two are likely to be very poor signings so probably won't be announced until March.

  23. Take the Edinburgh route and set up your own streaming service and get all the money from streaming.

  24. well its the same rider regardless of what average (a largely interpretable figure) so what difference does it make?
    1 point
  25. No the reassessment of Lee’s average puts him below James and means we will start the season with Lee and George at 6 and 7. I’m not totally sure of the maths in terms of the team overall points but we are certainly quite a bit down on the permitted points limit.

  28. Good shouts....I too would chance my arm with Kelleher....but now that I know his official average, we know its not going to be him.....(from Rogers statement about Nielsen/Morris as reserves) I'd prefer to watch Kelleher than Bates.....

  31. At reserve? I thought James Wright was at reserve? Assume by reassessed that can only mean 5 or worse a 4. So we are either 2.5 or 1.5 off the points limit? That’s worse than last year!

  32. I believe Lee is on a reassessed average and will start the season at reserve.

  33. "Iffy, dodgy weather meetings" keep fans away so when they do go ahead the club completely lose out... At least with streaming you may get those who decided to stay away paying to watch the stream...
    1 point
  34. There might be a minimum distance from the track to the IP address, so those 'near' (whatever distance they want) to the home track can't access the stream?

  35. Reasonably priced for the season if you're inclined to watch all the content. Monthly feels a bit step compared to say Netflix or Disney Plus but they have economies of scale and no doubt it's priced to incentivise annual pass purchases which is better vfm. Not sure what happens if you pay for a month and all the live matches are postponed?? The one off price is interesting. If you're a family of four you'll make quite a saving staying home to watch your team. They'll be hoping the extra income from away supporters and neutrals who wouldn't have travelled will offset. Also with each club only featuring 2 or 3 times you're not going to lose those families permanently. Match selection will be key. You put on a dominant home team vs strugglers (say Poole at home to the Diamonds) you might get a host of home fans taking the stream option with little or no away or neutral interest. Hopefully the knock on effect will be that the promoters at last realise that evenly matched teams and competitive matches on properly prepared circuits can now attract a much wider audience and the "as long as we win at home" theory can be shelved.....

  36. 2 teams defunct from last season, freeing up 14 riders a few retirees, but their is still a surplus of at least 6 riders,Plymouth were not excepted until much later than brum declared intention to run and managed to put a team out that increased attendance as the season went on so it can be done but not easy.

  45. Further interview with Franky and the bleak future for the sport There have always been two worlds in ice speedway, but the gap between the sport in Russia and that in Western Europe has been widening for years. While Russia has a long season and many races, especially in the junior sector, it is getting smaller in Western Europe - and not just because of official corona bans. There are many reasons why the sport is dying, the main one being a lack of organizers. And as a result, there is a lack of riders who cannot find any starting opportunities to develop further. «Stingagaden is gone, St. Johann is gone. What's next?" Franz Zorn asked in an interview with SPEEDWEEK.com. «And what if it's ice again in St. Johann? Even if you then want to drive a race, you have to ask yourself by now, with which riders? It's already bad that you struggle to get 16 riders together. The young Swedes no longer come in at over €2 for a liter of diesel. A trip to Austria and you'll have a thousand for the trip. Then you have to hope that the bike doesn't have any problems/damage. There are no more Swiss and only a handful of Czechs. We have Harald Simon and I, and there are only a few among the Germans." If you look at the situation in the ice speedway in the recent past, it is noticeable that events on natural ice no longer take place for various reasons. There were races in Steingaden, St. Johann, Weißenbach and also in the Czech Republic. There were events on artificial ice in Dresden, Innsbruck, Frankfurt and Erfurt, which all disappeared again. “There are other and many stadiums. The weather for the event in Zell was good for us, we had enough ice. But the climate won't get any better and we won't be able to avoid the artificial ice, but that's a fact," explained Zorn. Open races for youngsters were scarce even before Corona. Apart from the races before the GP in the Netherlands and the German Championship, starting opportunities were and are virtually non-existent. A development that worries Zorn: “We actually had a good time, it was really great. But at the moment everything is going down the drain if it keeps going like this. We've already discussed what to do in an ice rink, there's nothing cooler and harder than ice speedway. When there's ice skating, there are 100 or 200 spectators, but when there's ice speedway, the stadium is full." https://www.speedweek.com/eisspeedway-racing/news/187890/Franz-Zorn-in-grosser-Sorge-um-den-Eisspeedway-Sport.html
