I wonder sometimes why speedway only seems to attract an audience from the lowest social strata. It's hard to grasp why 600-700 people will "struggle" to afford an evening's entertainment where the admission is under £20, when a night at a music concert at a 10,000 capacity venue can easily sell out despite tickets being 5 or 6 times the price. That tells me that there are plenty of people with money in their pockets. So why can't speedway attract them? And to those who say that you get 2 whole hours entertainment for your money for your concert admission compared to 15 minutes for your speedway admission, I'm reminded of the day that 25,000 people paid over £50 each to see Usain Bolt for 10 seconds at Perry Barr's "other" stadium. People have money. Speedway just has to find out how to attract the people who have it.5 points

I'd much rather have Gappmaier than Proctor and according to this forum, so would most Berwick posters.... Woeful may be harsh, but I use the term woeful, not to describe the rider, but to describe the signing based on what Berwick had to play with4 points
-
Everyone slating Proctor about last season and poor maintenance of his gear ?? If I’m right he was working full time for Amazon or another retailer and doing speedway. , so this season he will definitely up his average at Berwick3 points
-
Think this season will end up being a "what could've been" for Berwick. If they'd just nailed that last signing it could've ended up being the best Bandits team in years and for me genuine title contenders. Proctor screams as a desperation signing to me and does show the lack of planning to go a near 2 points under the limit. Can only hope if its not working out with the initial side the promotion won't be shy to make a change.3 points

Proctor is a much better rider than his current average shows. Before covid, his average was always around the 7.50+ mark and I think If he can get back to this level Berwick will make the playoffs for the first time since 2014.2 points

The signing of Proctor doesn't turn Berwick into a poor team overnight, but I believe it is a poor signing giving what was their to spend on the final team place.2 points
-
Is that because they don't want us to see how bad the team is for free, they want us to pay instead so have to wait for the first official fixture to witness it first hand!!2 points

No nothing at all. Proctor’s terrible attitude towards racing prompted Leicester changes. Ty turned upto meetings with unwashed bikes from previous matches & then put 0% effort in regularly pulling onto the centre after half a lap , keeping the bike running & then riding off at the end of the race. Bates was injured & not returning , Proctor was literally taking the urine so he had to go for the good of the team spirit because his antics & attitude infuriated team mates, he officially resigned from the team but he left because he knew he was about to be sacked.2 points

It's hardly disregarding the other 6. But yes, when you essentially sign a second string/reserve in space of what could have been a genuine heatleadler then it will have a knock on effect to the rest of 6 and creates more pressure and expectation to perform.2 points

I wish the people involved with the work to return speedway all the best. It must be hard to stay positive when it appears the odds are stacked against you. However, as it has been said, Oxford's revival is a beacon pf optimism. I have lost the two tracks I supported - Coventry and Reading - an I feel fortunate that having moved into the area I will be able to see speedway again on a regular basis. For that I have to thank those whose hard work and persistence hard got Oxford back when it looked t as if they were lost for ever. I am still hoping that speedway will return to Coventry, though I think at Reading i it s very unlikely. Those who denigrate the efforts of the ones who work hard to keep speedway going are the sad ones.2 points

I'm shocked by this choice. I fully expected Peterborough to name Tony Atkin as their your up & coming number 82 points

So you quote we have a bad TEAM !! At least we have a team to watch ( thanks to Rob & Dave tinning ) but we look a lot stronger than last season imo1 point

The list of "announced" riders released thus far for the 3TT are all NDL riders. Im sure there might be a couple of fringe amateurs feature in the main events and perhaps moreso in the grasstrack classes but its a decent distance away from clubmans amateur events.1 point
-
I think there is a significant difference where most amateur events are run just for the riders where the Isle of Wight meetings are run for paying spectators. National Off Road Association I believe.1 point

Who knows,as we don’t know what deals were wanting to be done.Dany Gap was the obvious to most fans if they were strugglingto find someone nearer the points limits, but perhaps he was not wanting to return.Roll on March and see what happens.1 point

These are still ‘covid’ times so a U.K. based rider attracts as a better option. If he had a poor attitude at Leicester then he is going to have to show the management greater effort to repay their faith in him. Like Bridger you only have so many chances in this sport.1 point

Thats fair enough then in that context. Gappmeier would be a good pick up for brum. Genuinely intrigued byt the brum situation at present. I hope you pull out some wildcards!1 point

I can't see us bettering Harris with a new number 1, or having one of the best prospects (Flint) in the country in middle order....but I do hope that Rogers can give us something to cheer about with our final 3 signings...... Berwick's final 7 seem way behind Glasgow, Poole/Edinburgh/Plymouth/Leicester/Oxford(possibly)......1 point

I do enjoy this time of the season.... The time when the vast majority of all riders are signed due to them being very much the last resort, yet, with all of them invariably being riders who could "easily put a point or more on his average"... When, in reality, they have had several years of opportumity to do just that riding for all and sundry, but haven't... The pre season preview edition of the Speedway Star is a great read so it will be worth playing "Peterborough and Workington Bingo" to see how many times their league winning teams from last season, and a few years ago, are referenced by promoters justifying why their septets are not going to be also rans... With "we have "deliberately" put this team together with "strength in depth" to always have a strong reserve", and "you only have to look at what Peterborough did last year/Workington did a few years ago" getting you a full house if, "he is yet another one in the team who could easily put a point or more on their averages" is mentioned writhin the same club review..1 point

Craig Cook is very good when his mind is on it and i think this season it will be, Ulrich is a worry for both Glasgow and Peterborough after injury but i do think Basso can put two points on his average and Danyon Hume will improve too so in my view Glasgow are serious title contenders.1 point

Given his home track form compared to what Ty has ever done at Berwick I would suggest that Dany Gap would have been a “safer” option with the points to spare, but it’s Ty and let’s just give him the chance.1 point

So because we’ve signed “1 weak rider” in Proctor, it’s immediately disregarding the other 6 we have. Half a point from Leon on his average, a point plus from Jye (which is very do-able) and that’s almost the 2 already! Bomber doesn’t really have bad meetings at Berwick so could add a little also! The promotion have taken a gamble and given us a new look team… the large majority had been crying out for it! I’m sure they’ll change if needs must but they’ll also give time too!1 point

Proctor is very much a confidence rider, with the right management and people around he'll score points1 point

Pre-season preparations at PGE Ekstraliga are underway, modernization of stadiums is underway, players are completing their individual preparations and going to training camps together with entire teams. The last test, as every year, will be sparring matches with clubs, both at the same level and from lower leagues in Poland. And the banks have lost nothing during the pandemic. All loans underwritten by the government are what is described as ‘zero risk’ rated so no bank capital is used and the return on the loan goes straight to the bottom line of the bank as net as profit. The conservatives have been irresponsible in the loans/grants to businesses during the pandemic and those in receipt are surprised regarding the tax implications and are pleading ignorance on this point despite most having accountants who will have given best advice. The tax payer in the U.K. has been ripped off because of so many unscrupulous businesses falsely taking loans and an irresponsible government who with such abandon, threw money at a situation without thinking it through and consequently leaving a system open to abuse. How many businesses owners have taken the open cheques from the government and bought premium bonds etc. Those who doubt this are ill informed, most accountants know what has gone on and when tax returns are completed, accountants are alerted as to why the returns are wrong and most of the issues relate to the grants and loans dished out willy nilley by the government to businesses who are less than honest. The current financial implications for the domestic market re price caps on fuel etc. are because of the failure to manage the reduction in fossil fuel use over a reasonable period of time and the investment in alternatives which has lead to everyone paying over the odds in the short term rather than a managed financial strategy over a reasonable period of time. The hike in direct/indirect taxation through NI as well as the fuel increase etc. should never be solely down to one individual of the like of Sunak who through family wealth will never ever be impacted by the hardship of the average U.K. citizen. It says it where the country has a top table as a governing body which is made up of the privilege few who the rules do not apply and yet claim to understand the current financial crisis but will never be affected by the financial hardship many will suffer. They seem to be really taking the p... out of each and every struggling worker/household.1 point
