  1. The latest measurements hot off the press (and I will be back round with the wheel next week to confirm it again) Inside Line on the kerb 299 metres Outside Line on the boards 410 metres Straights 13.5 metres wide Bends 18.5 metres wide Camber on Bends 8% All subject to (minor) change of course but its about where it is going to be... So if the riders want to go round the boards they will really have to go full throttle at it and wind it on... Should be a really fast track with plenty of racing and passing lines that is for sure... Here's hoping... Regards THJ

  2. I'm shocked by this choice. I fully expected Peterborough to name Tony Atkin as their your up & coming number 8

  3. I think it’s july, August initially pencilled in . Good turn out for Aunty Sues funeral, with a Speedway bike on a truck leading the procession after the church service and Radetzky march played on leaving the church.

  5. To be fair the Berwick collapse in the last few heats was a thing of beauty though

  6. I'm confused, wasn't the track perfect and it was just Redcar whinging?! It's amazing how it's now being admitted that it needs re-laying but last season there was nothing wrong with it despite a plethora of riders from many teams stating otherwise.

  9. That looks a perfect size length/width etc. What's amazing is if someone wound it on and rode most of the race near the boards ( unlikely I know) distance wise could be nearly an extra lap against someone riding the white line! Bet some of the brave on the boards riders like Chris Harris will love coming here, especially if it's a bit grippy .

  10. I suppose most fans are concerned rather than being negative, and the 1000 attendance statement didn't do any favours, but as you say wait until the last signings and see then.

  11. I'm the same its plain to see even from day 1 when mention of massive rent increase and crowds of 1000 need to break even. No one wants to see clubs disappear etc But the writings already on the wall Masons struggled all last season with crowds not attending and that was with two very good heat leaders in Harris and Riss for the crowd to watch. LR has already used excuses or told few fibs

  12. There you go then.... one down, two to go. So, how about Shawn McConnell as the second of the three? Still entertaining the crowds in the USA and a firm favourite of the fans of a certain generation.

  13. Great plans ahead for Scottish Speedway and Edinburgh in particular with the plans that are to be adopted in 2022 through the Monarhs Speedway Academy. Details can be found at this link. More Progress Ahead for Academy as James Grieves Signs Up | News Centre | Edinburgh Monarchs Speedway | Official Club Website Good to see James join David and Sean getting involved in training new riders, having seen them learning their trade way back at Linlithgow.

  15. Maybe it's time to put the silly old bugger on ignore, if everyone did it then we'd never see his posts again, he'd never be quoted, it would be as though he didn't exist at all. Although I don't know if the ignore facility covers new thread titles, either way it's nauseating having to trawl through his inane ramblings, he's like a one man wrecking crew and he's probably proud of himself, wouldn't last 5 minutes in a real life setting with normal people, they would just boot him out of the room.

  18. I think they are developing the site in the best way. Start with the track, then the buildings, standing and seating areas, and then the add ons such as parking and services.

  19. Doyle - arguably the leagues top rider King - ended last season as No1 and now No2 Batchelor and Riss both started last seasons as No1 Heeps now 5th - last season heat leader Starke and Rowe both in top 5 at times last season

  22. Only because Birmingham 'fans' don't seem to bother reading their club's own official statements or articles in the Speedway Star - preferring to voice their own - mainly negative - agendas!!! As stated previously for a successful Championship its to nobody's advantage for there to be overtly weak teams in the league.

  26. I think reserves look far stronger this season without the rising stars, the 2 pointers might find it bit harder with no like for like in every team. Kemp shout be kicking on now, in play off matches I saw him at home he was very good, the 2 times saw him at Glasgow thought Willie Lawson was back

  27. Berwick lacked a real No1 last season or their strength in depth would have paid off.We we’re woeful when it came to 13 &15 away from home.

  28. I think that Kemp IS a strong reserve
    1 point
  29. I think you need at least one strong reserve which is why I am a little worried About the Poole team. Obviously having two strong reserves weakens the team higher up but no reason why it can't work.

  30. Based on some tweets today it's looking like the Discovery Group are going to partner with BT Sport going forward rather than DAZN buying out the BT Sports business. That could be good news for those like me who want to watch speedway and MotoGP.

  31. No, but they're a useful tool when a second string has an off night . Strong Heat Leaders don't figure in Heats 2 and 8...... Not sure we've had much choice with team selection, so far as Heat Leaders go, but having strong reserves is a positive from experience. I'm sure most teams don't start with strong reserves as their priority and I bet we didn't either, it just is what it is and IMO it's not a weakness or a bad thing. I'm sure most speedway fans will have their own views on it.

  32. It's all very well having strong reserves but they don't usually figure in hts 1,13,15!

  33. Sounds like much same dimensions as Glasgow (the messiahs last track project) since his work the track been brilliant as several racing lines and loads of passing

  34. It looks good on the pics, and your detail seems fine THJ......must check it out visually, if can find it, on my next ASDA trip. I assume the banking seen on pics will be for the speccies - with the 1200 seats purchased to be divided between both straights.....anyway roll on the first action....

  35. Surely the likes of Gilkes, Thompsons, Hume, Mulford will be used, as I assume they will be 'paid' to attend as No.8 anyway?

  38. I finally found the track width info about those tracks (provided by the SCB): Ipswich: Length: 285 m Home straight: 10.7 m Back straight: 10.6 m 1st and 2nd bends: 16.0 m 3rd and 4th bends: 16.5 m Redcar: Length: 271 m Home straight: 12.0 m Back straight: 11.0 m 1st and 2nd bends: 14.6 m 3rd and 4th bends: 15.6 m Scunthorpe: Length: 285 m Home straight width - 15.0 m Back straight: 13.0 mt 1st and 2nd bends: 16.0 mt 3rd and 4th bends: 16.8 mt Redcar is shorter than Foxhall, and also not as wide on the bends - so any banking must help? Scunthorpe is the same length as Foxhall, with similar bend widths, so again the banking must help - the extra width on the straights is possibly a factor in enabling different lines into and off the bends? I've asked the SCB if they can publish this info for all of the tracks.

  41. Whilst you might not like his decision, it’s his track and his opinion and that has nothing to do with ‘nomadic teams ‘.

  42. Track size and shape could be "perfect"... Not too big so a differential in horsepower spreads out the riders down the straights.... And nice wide entry and exits into wide bends, meaning the bikes will be going sideways for a fair amount of the lap, thus giving those who can use the grip the chance to make inroads into leads of others.. 8 percent banking is "just enough" too I would suggest for good draining and safety of riders, helping them to ride the turns... Look forward to visiting, hope it all goes well...

  45. Can't believe they didnt base the dimensions on those of a Cycle Speedway track... That would work great if someone did it, wouldn't it? Great to see someone with pretty much a blank canvas thinking about how the entertainment value of the racing will be affected by its shape.. Look forward to visiting... Going to take my 18 year old with me and let him enjoy the delights of a night out in Worky post meeting..

  46. That sounds a great recipe for some proper good racing. As we know,, it's all about having the room for different lines entering the bends,, and room enough for getting out of them with riders next to each other. I am so looking forward to visiting this track when is up and running.
