Yeah it's the photo angle, the width of the straights and bends are the exact same specification of the NSS. The overall track size is just about 50 metres short of Belle Vue, around 298 metres in total. Belle Vue is 347m i think.3 points

Bullets' fixture list offers three home stand-alone NDL matches, plus four double-header nights featuring both Bandits and Bullets. The stand-alone nights in April and May will fill blank dates in the CL calendar and provide regular speedway this season, hopefully allowing a continuity of Saturdays that hasn't been enjoyed at Berwick for quite a number of years. This alone makes last year's creation of the Bullets a worthwhile decision -- all the refreshing entertainment they provided in the process was a terrific bonus!2 points

Seen this ad, and it looks like Ovaltine had a fairly long association with speedway. Ron Johnson , Malcolm Craven of West Ham and Mart Seiffert of Wimbledon are others featured I guess in the pre-war and probably post war eras, a number of products used speedway riders. Of course the famous cigarette series are well known. What others were there ?1 point

Whilst you might not like his decision, it’s his track and his opinion and that has nothing to do with ‘nomadic teams ‘.1 point

Great Picture of Munich's two most famous horse racing tracks. In fact, both tracks seen in this picture were tried for motorcycle racing before WW2. The track in front is the 1000m Trabrennbahn in München-Daglfing, and this track is in fact the cradle of "Sandbahnrennen" = long track racing in our country. The very first such meeting with motorcycles racing on a lose dirt/sand surface oval racetrack was held at Daglfing in conjunction with a bicycle race in the summer of 1921. The motorcycle races were most exciting and easily outshone the cycle races. The bicycle races were in the following years altoghether dropped from the program in favour of the motorbikes. The biggest international motorcyle track racing events at Daglfing were the annual Golden Helmet of Germany (Goldhelm von Deutschland) meetings, inaugurated in 1933, when the Führer AH himself was the donator of the trophy. The first Golden Helmet was won in pouring rain by the sidecar driver Josef Möritz, in a handicap race final that featured the day's fastest solos and sidecars of all the various classes. The track in the background of the picture is the much larger (2000m) Galopprennbahn in München-Riem. This track was used only once for a motorcycle grass track meeting in the autumn of 1931. The racing there on a very soft track surface was not nearly as good as at Daglfing, and as the turf was quite damaged by the bikes ,and cars racing in that one-off meeting München-Riem, it was not to be repeated.1 point

Nice tagline. This was mentioned in a backtrack interview recently with Colin Richardson. Bonus was he got loads of them. Surprised they didn't use Roger Johnnies instead... Yep. Lucozade with simply GRIT emblazoned across a pic of Havvy. I confess I tried to nick one for my student pad in Edinburgh at the time....until a police car pulled up and asked why I was whacking a bus shelter with a grolsch bottle. I had more testosterone than brains back then. Cool poster though1 point

If we're thinking of the same advert, I definitely remember a Mars advert ( I think late 70s), involving speedway. I think there was a series of adverts on the "work, rest and play" theme, showing someone doing their day job and then enjoying some kind of sport in the evening. All I can remember of the speedway one was the bloke stood on the terraces eating a Mars bar as the bikes raced into the first turn, and he says "I hope Pete wins tonight".1 point

I remember a Marathon (or possibly Mars) advert that was filmed at a meeting at Wimbledon. There was also a Durex advert which had a Speedway rider in a Durex race jacket and the words: "Crowd Stopper" emblazoned across it. I can't remember who the rider was though.1 point

According to Maurice Jones’s Speedway Survey 1989 book Arena didn’t use any in the league or KOC, but Hackney used one. Nigel Leaver in for Andy Galvin at Eastbourne. He scored 9.1 point

Fixture list now offers a nice continuity this season, with three stand-alone NJL meetings fleshing out blank Saturdays where there isn't a CL match scheduled. One blank Saturday in June is presumably insurance against one of the previous ten being rained off -- another in July would cover KO Cup progression or another rain-off. August has two blanks because of Cardiff and the GP Challenge, but all in all a pleasing roster of Saturdays in prospect. Bring it on!1 point

Playing at managing a speedway team, on an ego trip! Have you ever actually looked at attempts to bring back some of these teams.......Dont think so!!!!!! Otherwise a more balanced statement would be made. It infuriates me at such a generalised statement with no factual evidence. As for my efforts to re introduce speedway at Halifax, it is well documented. The ill health I suffered as a consequence, put paid to it and not to mention the personal financial costs. Would I do it again, YES. Why might be asked, but look through Premiership Teams, Championship Teams and National League Teams and you will find many who have progressed through opportunities with Halifax Dukes in the Northern Junior League.1 point

The founder of DerelictLondon, Paul Talling, is a Facebook friend of mine, and we've had a few discussions (usually about pubs where I used to play darts). I think it is one of the most fascinating websites out there, and I have the related book. Definitely worth a look or two.1 point

Just thought I'd let you all know the news regarding the magical New Cross book about which John can't find any details... He emailed me the link on the museum website for it, in case anyone wants it! I know, I know, WHAT museum website? Do you need the link, Norman?1 point

Winning in Poland means “your”Team won the League and the Prestige means something to riders and Sponsers.Over here “your “ Club won the League using every other Clubs riders during the season. Not a lot of Credibility in that IMO.1 point

I think a big thing being missed when discussing "free" illegal streams is the format. Yes you can get illegal streams of Polish, Swedish and even Premiership meetings but these are broadcast on a television service which can be tapped into fairly easily. An online stream of such a niche audience is highly unlikely to be hacked and companies that provide such services have many things in place to prevent them. How many free Edinburgh, Glasgow or Redcar streams were available last year? Whether streams take fans away from the tracks is yet to be determined. Edinburgh clearly feel it doesn't affect their crowd as they continue to stream weekly (I think only Poole have additionally announced their intention to stream each week so far). There is a whole audience of speedway fans that currently do not attend meetings whether that be due to ill health or purely distance to their nearest track (even more apparent with weekday tracks). Whilst we chase the new fan, this will hopefully bring some revenue for the already converted but just can't attend.1 point

Sheffield have compiled a great septet. They will take some stopping. But you never know what will happen. If all things are equal, only Ipswich can upset Sheffield currently.1 point

Any chance this place held Dirt Track meetings ? Seems to be mention of motorcycle races as well as greyhounds here From 1906 racing bets could be accepted; In the years that followed, until it was incorporated into Munich in 1930, the tax to be paid by the Trabrennbahn was the main source of income for the municipality of Daglfing . In 1909 a second grandstand was built for 1,000 spectators. Racing was restricted during the First World War , but not given up. During the Munich Soviet Republic in 1919, the trotting course was briefly occupied by Spartacists - equestrian sport was the domain of the nobility and the well-to-do bourgeoisie. In the times of crisis in the 1920s, greyhound races , car races and motorcycle races also took place on the trackinstead of. In the 1930s, when sport was heavily promoted by the National Socialist regime , a lighting system that enabled evening races and a new restaurant were built. The "Silver Horse of Germany", advertised from 1937, was conceived as an international trotting award. In April 1938 the main stand was destroyed by fire. https://second.wiki/wiki/trabrennbahn_daglfing1 point

What I'm suggesting is to go back to 13 heats & then with all 14 riders + 4 local talents in the second half with sponsored final. The objective being discover & encourage MUCH NEEDED new riders but also freshen things up. Keep this going until we have enough riders to fill our team places without the hated double-up/ double-down shenanigans.1 point

I would suggest if Justin was good enough to be a heat leader in Div 1 and Div 2, like so many other riders are, he may put up with the "sh*t money" given he would be getting two wages.... I am off to email my boss now asking her if she will let me work for just six months this year but pay me enough to live on for the full twelve.. Will keep everyone updated as to her answer...1 point

I personally think rider control did work 95% of the time! The current biggest problem in the U.K. is lack of riders per team places available. Maybe it's time to bring back second-half's & introduce 4 to 6 new riders per club to the sport with regular second-half rides. By next season you could have 30 riders in the U.K. ready for team spots. Also a couple of years of second-half's would "mix" things up a bit.1 point

Well many would wouldnt they? As they are all Div One heat leaders... (And therein lies a pretty big problem in itself)... The counter punch though is that many would then NOT go along and watch their home team against a visiting team with no Div One heat leaders in their ranks... Due to a great many of the fans (the majority I would say), being Speedway fans first (those who want to watch close racing as an entertainment), and fans of "their team" second, (those who still take it seriously and want to see their team "win")... With no promotion, relegation, europe to qualify for, financial reward etc, for many teams their season can be effectively "over" by June/July, therefore keeping each meeting competitive has to be a priority to keep fans engaged...1 point

Whilst the 6 PL Clubs can take 90% plus of the TV money the "closed shop" of the PL will continue. Whilst CL Clubs pay too much for doubling up Heat Leaders there will be "the haves and have nots and some who try to have what they cant afford will struggle. The likes of Poole; Leicester and Glasgow have sufficient support and financial clout to enhance the PL if the PL will let them in and if they could share the TV pot it would be more viable for them surely. The best current solution is surely a 9 - 10 team PL of similar strength to now but with lower points limit to share heat leaders around and a similar 9 -10 team CL/DL with one double down heat leader over say 8 points and a lower points limit with more focus on development. More competitive racing, more balanced leagues and less financial risk to those who have to struggle to survive. When Justin Sedgeman complains of reduced points money and having to spend more on equipment he truly hits the nail on the head! I'm not picking on him but it just shows the mentality of too many riders who over-spend on engine tuning in particular and then blame the Promoters for not paying enough points money and then moan when they are paid late or not at all, rather than look at what they actually need. Maybe the idea Barry Bishop tried with the homoglated Jawa Ice engines is the way to go at CL level??. No tuning and only essential repairs allowed. Would the racing spectacle suffer in any way? I doubt it! The days of a rider having 2 Jawa 2 valve engines that would both last a season and the secong one only a back up in case of a calamity are a distant dream but until riders show reality and in some cases actually get a day job and turn semi pro the situation will get worse.1 point

In a sport where "winning" brings you so little reward, and is pretty much down to it's most die hard followers, and no more, everywhere... I would think having EVERY track competitive is far, far more important to any possible future growth of the sport as a generic entity than having teams possibly close down due to riders not being shared around, meaning home crowds drop.. Especially in Div 2 where clubs are using Div 1 level riders in the first place, and a 2nd div in any league has less kudos in winning than the top league in any sport.. If the likes of Newcastle and Birmingham do close the sport will lose around 1500 or so die hards, who will have attended virtually every week.. No team winning any league will add 1500 to their attendance every week of the season. Therefore. Another net loss in fans to add to the many other times this has happened over the past 20 years or so.. And the irony of it all is that having uncompetitive teams also impacts every other team financially as when these teams visit, crowds will invariably drop due to some home fans feeling it not worth attending.. Bottom line is, hardly anyone cares who wins any UK Speedwsy title, so the sport would be much healthier generically if the vast majority of meetings delivered entertainment through both teams being at least relatively even, and clubs all ended each season...1 point

Can't believe they didnt base the dimensions on those of a Cycle Speedway track... That would work great if someone did it, wouldn't it? Great to see someone with pretty much a blank canvas thinking about how the entertainment value of the racing will be affected by its shape.. Look forward to visiting... Going to take my 18 year old with me and let him enjoy the delights of a night out in Worky post meeting..1 point

I’m sure Poole is up to the task of seeing off any development. A few bribes and underhand tactics will see the job sorted.....lol1 point
