  1. Bored with the Poole thread now?

  2. Conversely, Suppose for a minute, someone decides to subscribe to an away meeting…and invites a gang of his mates around to have a “watch the speedway party” …. Bring your own food and booze, etc.. a few of whom have never been to a track before… but after watching decide to join his mate at their local track. It can work both ways. You can either sit back and do nothing “out of fear” or try something new. The sit back and do nothing approach hasn’t worked so far, so I applaud this new venture and hope it provides a catalyst to grow the sport.

  4. A few years ago Bloody hell Mr.R… try like 18 years this year. I did not and have never had a fall out with Berwick, it’s a club I’ve associated myself with since 1990 and always will; I simply filled my Sundays coming down with Roger Goldie (RIP) and a friend who was seeing Kenneth Bjerre at the time as I am a SPEEDWAY fan and Roger lived close and asked if I wanted to go. Not like you to get actual facts wrong when trying to twist something to suit your agenda now

  5. Very interesting that it's a new Paul Bellamy company that is running the show for them. I wonder if this was put out to tender or if they just asked him if he could organise it? If the event is no longer being organised by the series promoters, you would think that the BSPL would have wanted to take back control of this major event in the UK...

  10. I see no reason why lots of Oxford can't race on a Friday! When they race against other Friday tracks, they'd have to change race night, which is fair, but they should be allowed to race Fridays for the other fixtures imo Stopping too many clubs racing on the same day must be to free up riders for guest bookings? If every club is racing no guests are available! Which is a rubbish reason to refuse Oxford Fridays tbh. Basically saying "you can't race on a Friday, because others do & they may want to use your riders"

  11. quite a few tracks would not be able to do anything an hour before within their planning permission which only allows even the warm up of engines from a set time . Plus the track man is usually finishing off his watering etc . Nice idea but not practical

  12. It could be a good thing, or it could be a bad thing...I'm not sure. Anyone remember the Bet365 streaming service from a couple of years ago? That didn't last long did it? I assume this one will be paid for on a pay-per-view basis? So where does the money go? Is there a BSPZzz oligarch who will be trousering 40% of revenues again, like with the Sky Sports deal, or is this genuinely for the benefit of the Championship clubs and they will get a fair share of the revenue? Questions need answering. And how long before the "usual suspects" on BSF start distributing the links to the streams like what happens with Polish and Swedish speedway matches, meaning that all the "genuine fans" belonging to BSF will opt for the "free" links rather than spending their money on the subscriptions that will fund the sport? Suppose for a minute, someone decides to subscribe to a meeting...and invites a gang of his mates around to have a "watch the speedway party"...bring your own food and booze, etc...how will that one subscription compensate for a whole gaggle of people who now won't be paying their admission on the door because they can watch the racing on TV, and not have to pay stadium prices on food and drink, and of course they can download their own race cards off BSF too, so they won't need a/several programmes?

  13. Regarding the bjerre and Freddie crash, the ref totally got it wrong but it was an easy error to make really, if you watch the video then Freddie goes to clamp bjerre on the curb but gets it all wrong and turns his bike inside out. Bjerre had no where to go but into him. It was one of them things. It was just unlucky for the aces fans and luck for the wolves fans. That's sort really

  18. Got to love the official Newcastle speedway website. Home page shows the latest results for last August!! , as well as last years team. Fixture page shows up and coming matches for LAST September. You have to search the news page to find this years fixtures. Come on Newcastle, sort it. how do you expect to attract the casual spectator when the first impression you get is that it's shut as the info is SIX months out of date.

  21. Am sure there's a will to run such a thing, Tsunami used to run a training school at Newcastle. It wasn't done without effort and organisation and, he probably burdened the cost of it all. So maybe you need somebody willing do the same?

  22. Believe me it isn’t feasible and yes, it’s been tried. A PL match was once put in jeopardy because the track concerned had the air fence damaged by an accident and the paramedics were then taken away to deal with the injured , never mind the last minute track maintenance . Have you ever watched a complete novice child try to ride four laps? Besides the painstaking time it can take, usually with an adult running along side to keep them ‘ steady ‘ how many kids are you going to get on track in an hour ? How many different size kits are you going to require? How many qualified ‘ trainers ‘ ? and so on and so on…. As someone who helps run a training school with hire bikes I do know a bit about what’s involved.

  24. I would suggest if Justin was good enough to be a heat leader in Div 1 and Div 2, like so many other riders are, he may put up with the "sh*t money" given he would be getting two wages.... I am off to email my boss now asking her if she will let me work for just six months this year but pay me enough to live on for the full twelve.. Will keep everyone updated as to her answer...

  25. Whilst the 6 PL Clubs can take 90% plus of the TV money the "closed shop" of the PL will continue. Whilst CL Clubs pay too much for doubling up Heat Leaders there will be "the haves and have nots and some who try to have what they cant afford will struggle. The likes of Poole; Leicester and Glasgow have sufficient support and financial clout to enhance the PL if the PL will let them in and if they could share the TV pot it would be more viable for them surely. The best current solution is surely a 9 - 10 team PL of similar strength to now but with lower points limit to share heat leaders around and a similar 9 -10 team CL/DL with one double down heat leader over say 8 points and a lower points limit with more focus on development. More competitive racing, more balanced leagues and less financial risk to those who have to struggle to survive. When Justin Sedgeman complains of reduced points money and having to spend more on equipment he truly hits the nail on the head! I'm not picking on him but it just shows the mentality of too many riders who over-spend on engine tuning in particular and then blame the Promoters for not paying enough points money and then moan when they are paid late or not at all, rather than look at what they actually need. Maybe the idea Barry Bishop tried with the homoglated Jawa Ice engines is the way to go at CL level??. No tuning and only essential repairs allowed. Would the racing spectacle suffer in any way? I doubt it! The days of a rider having 2 Jawa 2 valve engines that would both last a season and the secong one only a back up in case of a calamity are a distant dream but until riders show reality and in some cases actually get a day job and turn semi pro the situation will get worse.

  26. In a sport where "winning" brings you so little reward, and is pretty much down to it's most die hard followers, and no more, everywhere... I would think having EVERY track competitive is far, far more important to any possible future growth of the sport as a generic entity than having teams possibly close down due to riders not being shared around, meaning home crowds drop.. Especially in Div 2 where clubs are using Div 1 level riders in the first place, and a 2nd div in any league has less kudos in winning than the top league in any sport.. If the likes of Newcastle and Birmingham do close the sport will lose around 1500 or so die hards, who will have attended virtually every week.. No team winning any league will add 1500 to their attendance every week of the season. Therefore. Another net loss in fans to add to the many other times this has happened over the past 20 years or so.. And the irony of it all is that having uncompetitive teams also impacts every other team financially as when these teams visit, crowds will invariably drop due to some home fans feeling it not worth attending.. Bottom line is, hardly anyone cares who wins any UK Speedwsy title, so the sport would be much healthier generically if the vast majority of meetings delivered entertainment through both teams being at least relatively even, and clubs all ended each season...

  31. The way I understand the race night decision is as follows; Monday - premiership race night Tueaday - free Wednesday - free Thursday - premiership race night Friday - too many other clubs already ride Friday Saturday/Sunday - greyhounds

  32. I think the RS system worked too well, most of the reserves are now second strings, so to keep the RS system would mean moving up the next bunch on prospects, who are far weaker & Champ sides don't want to weaken their league!

  34. I think you will find that the infamous Pirates didn't take kindly to moving off their traditional Wednesday race night, which is I guess almost engrained into every Poole residents calendar. They will be happy with any night as long as it is a Wednesday. Too many clubs on a Friday ............ who says ? We have Edinburgh and Glasgow running on Fridays ( a most bizarre situation ) Do Poland seem to have too many clubs on a Sunday ? Do Denmark too many clubs on Wednesday ? Do Sweden .... etc etc. Time the blinkered promoters allowed tracks to run on nights where they can make most money , not for the convenience of other Friday night tracks. Promoting British Speedway is not the description I would use for Rob Godfrey ( unless it's promoting his own club)
