  1. All good thanks, just got out of habit of posting on here, in fact I hardly checked things out on here for a while, close season, loss of interest etc. But now the season is getting closer I`m looking forward to getting back to track side for what could be a half decent season given how the Berwick team is shaping up, one signing to go of course.

  2. Reference the poor crowds in 2007 Oxford started the season under Colin Horton some teams named top heavy sides preventing Oxford having no number one and a poor team Colin withdrew mid season and Alan Trump kept the Conference team going. Alan was prepared to run the next season (I think in the 2nd tier), but was stopped by the stadium owners GRA who did not want the stadium to be succesful so they could justify building houses. Thanks to lots of hard work by speedway, greyhound fans and supportive MP'S and councilors we are in the situation we are now. The new leaseholder is certaintly making moves to ensure that speedway and the stadium has the best chance of succeding.

  3. Or painting your own programme board including a very big bulldog clip! That's what got me into speedway as it was much more interactive than football.

  5. Well, I googled "people who went to speedway in 1946" and it brought up this Indian version of wikipedia See Here

  6. It doesn’t matter how you say it, your spelling and grammar you use. It’s the content and aggressive meaning of your posts that angers. Which is obviously your intent. Sorry but you can’t then play the emotional card if you continue to throw stones. That often contains your desire to lose another Speedway club.

  8. Insults on both sides get people nowhere. Not taking sides but maybe if you were not quite confrontational this would help to calm things down. Nobody should have the mick taken if they have a problem. May I suggest let the riders do their work on the track and not people on their keyboards.

  10. Jason's grandfather Neil Street was one of the best ever "team managers" incorporating coach, motivator, advisor & talent spotter ever in the history of speedway. For a multitude of reasons I can see exceling in this new role.

  11. Whilst I admit I don’t know the facts about pay, I would be very very surprised if there was any truth what so ever in these “rumours”

  12. Should add 5% at least motivation to the riders having someone with that as your TM. I know in my team I sometimes feel we're losing about 10%! Lol Don't get the obsession on here with "rumours" of what other teams pay their riders. It's up to them and must be based on some sort of business plan. If and when that proves wrong then criticise but before that hardly see the merit in it. Also, as I understand it's the stadium owner whose running things, so no rent. So will have more available to pay riders than those who have rents to pay.

  13. Im more than happy to see riders transition accross from other sports and be included because they are good enough. The original post was regarding signing riders who haven't even ridden a speedway bike yet so unless fragile Crutchlow fancies a crack i think it will be someone who knows roughly what to do. Sadly there only ever was and will be one Danny Ayres

  14. Not really. But the correct there/their/they're is primary school grammar. Everyone knows which one to use it is whether people can be bothered to use the correct one.

  15. ok, to save the forum becoming overrun did anyone go to speedway prior to 1948 or can that award go to Hyam and we can all be done with it?

  17. Just ridiculous belittling a team is in no way the same as doing it to an individual! Its not even close and an embarrassing attempt to justify it

  19. Well decent looking team, 'big names' involved, feelgood factor in it being a phoenix for the ashes, this should mean an excellent start to the season. However, it will need serious and sensible heads to build on this foundation and I hope that is going to be the case. The quality of the racing on offer (and that doesn't mean a home win every match) will be important. The race night has to run smoothly, the riders need to turn up regularly and they need to get the supporters feeling valued. Last season I went to Leicester and I felt it was well run and the people involved were friendly and helpful - I am sure it's not the only club like that. Oxford would do well to look at the clubs that have retained their support and take some lessons. Oxford needs to be a success for the whole sport not just one city. Speedway needs a good story for next season after the problems it has had recently. I'm looking forward to being a fan again!

  23. I will be happy to add my comments before the deadline dates but will have a thorough study of the proposals first as they do seem to be very involved. My very best wishes to the people looking to ensure the continuation of speedway in Poole.

  25. Maybe the leaseholders decision to stop running Greyhound meetings is all part of the plan to reduce the community use of the Stadium, and then get the Stadium designated for future redevelopment, mind im stuggling to work out how Stadia UK will benefit financially from redevelopment unless there aim is to be the developers.

  26. They're paying significantly less than some in this division, but then again, this is 2022 and facts mean nothing. When all is said and done, they have to balance their books accordingly. that's their business. But then again, people believe what they want to believe these days

  27. 2nd Division teams seem to do "ok" with 700 or so... And in Oxford's case you would like to think that the early meetings in particular will be a huge % amount higher than 700 given they are relaunching.. Lots of local publicity too initially, so hopefully these early crowds will help pay for a successful season overall as the crowd levels settle down and stabilise to its true level.. And even (if it is "just 700"), it's more than would be watching the sport if they hadn't have come back... 20 home matches or so and that is 14000 more clicks at the turnstiles for the sport..

  30. If rumours are true they are paying top $$$ for riders; including reserves on more per point than some Clubs are paying Heat Leaders. JC is a legend and great role model but won't be doing Team Management for peanuts and expenses like some TM's do. I just hope for the sake of everyone at Oxford and for the Sport in general that the guy in charge of the Stadium has deep pockets. Wish them every success.

  31. I'd personally rather see the next Danny Ayres, Steve Worrall, Craig Cook rather than seeing James Chattin and Ryan MacDonald again (no offence to them lads, but they just haven't cut it with so many opportunities) Fair enough, if the league was bigger, there'd be more space for the likes of James and Ryan. I'm sure if a promotion is willing to put a rider in their NL team on a 3.00, even if they are a ex motocross rider, they'll have had plenty of experience on a speedway bike at the many training days across the country. There are currently a couple riders just from the top of my head I can think of who have just transitioned from road racing and motocross who are based in the midlands of the country. They are older lads (late 20s) but they are very talented at riding fast bikes. They could do a real good job helping our leagues grow into more homegrown riders, which is what we need at the end of the day.

  32. I would find it extremely insulting to everyone involved if the 3 pointers were non speedway riders. They would be a danger to all other riders on track with them and insulting to paying fans and every other 3 pointer working hard to secure a team place. Develop riders through an academy sure but dont ridicule the NDL

  36. a winning team need reserves that are going to move up/down every average change so the rider moving down can get some points and confidence

  39. It would be nice to get as many former riders to attend over the course of the season. I'm sure everyone would love to see Hans, Dag & Gordon Kennett but I'm sure some of the former lesser known have a story to tell as well. Spencer Timmo & Jon Surman are still living fairly local, I know Marvyn Cox comes back to these shores each year. Armando Castanga is here for the SGP just a few ex Oxford riders to start working on.

  40. As someone who used to buy and read programmes at all meetings I attended my pet hate was a rain off issue that had no connection with my team being sold for full price with an insert. No one likes it and programme collectors hate it. In the current climate surely it’s better to save it for when the original team returns and just offer this with an up to date insert, at the very least it’s of interest to both sets of fans. Bearing in mind 75% of a programme is Owners, Promoters, Team Managers and Team Captains welcoming the visiting Owners, Promoters, Team Managers and Team and thanking Sponsors and pages upon pages of adverts it’s a wonder anyone still buys it. I am aware that all copies of programmes go to the BSPL to ensure no one says something out of line and risk a fine but this practice has over time made a lot of programmes bland and uninspiring unfortunately. Since 2014 I have used an iPad spreadsheet (I produced myself) to follow matches although I still glance through the programme I get with my ST. I no longer buy programmes at away venues and haven’t for years, although I might look at an Eastbourne copy to see why it won programme of the year in the recent star awards.

  41. Get real - Good Friday has always seen every team that can run do so with many home and away double headers You didn't need a fixture list published to realise this would be the case again I suppose we should be grateful that he didn't suggest certain teams couldn't ride on that day so that riders were available for Josh I didn't offer any opinion on the organising teams decision to accept the date. I will everyone form their own.....
