I'll re-write this for you in the Queens English.... The irony of there not being one fact in this load of rubbish is again amazing. I'll also expect all Poole fans to stop commenting on other teams threads. After all, they're for their fans. I'll also re-write it for you to make it factually correct.... There is no irony in this post which is a list of factually correct statements which are amazing. I'll also expect the handful of Poole fans who comment on other teams threads to continue to do so as they do not troll unlike the above and Thrushrat. After all, they're for all fans. Now back to being sensible, commenting on any thread is welcome by all. But trolling and fishing is childish, pathetic and unwanted. Us Poole supporters are very passionate about our team which is run well by owners who genuinely love the club. They ensure that the Pirates are financially stable and build teams which are capable of challenging for honours year after year whichever league they're in. There are other clubs which are also run well, however they are nowhere near as successful as Poole have been and that's the bottom line. I do concede that I've not always agreed with some of the tactics that Matt Ford has employed over the years, some of which have been perceived to be a little 'naughty', however all teams have been guilty of the same if it produces results. Also, since taking the reigns a couple of years ago, Danny Ford so far hasn't implemented any tactics which 'bend' the rules...and for that I applaud him. The basis of the 2022 team which has been announced so far looks very good. If the rumours are true (and looking at riders that are not already signed) then the rest of the team will also look very good and IMO we will again be the team to beat. It's a real shame that a handful of folk will continue get pleasure from trolling and posting antagonistic nonsense just because our club are is so successful. I guess the saying is correct, 'success breeds contempt'. Here's to another successful year for the mighty Poole Pirates!8 points

I have just submitted this . Please make your voices heard . I agree that Poole needs to be regenerated as I feel the town has fallen by the wayside in some areas, such as the bus station & High Street. However, I am extremely concerned about the future of Poole Speedway and Poole Stadium in your Local Plan . The Poole Pirates have been a popular sporting attraction to the town since the 1940's. They are an extremely successful club who have won multiple trophies over the years and the sport is extremely popular in the County and further afield, attracting fans from around the UK to the area to spend their holidays whilst watching the sport. Speedway is very much a family sport. Many of my family members have enjoyed the racing since the Pirates inception, which has been passed down. As an avid fan of the club and the sport as a whole, I sincerely believe any notion to remove Poole Stadium as a sporting venue, resulting in the club folding and thus removing an entertainment facility which the town lacks, would be a serious detrimental negative impact to your Local Plan and the local community. I would like to also take the opportunity to remind you that Poole Stadium was left as a gift to the people of Poole by the Lord & Lady Wimborne to be used as a sporting venue. Therefore, it is my opinion that the venue should be exempt from redevelopment for anything other than to improve the current facilities. Kind Regards, Jason C7 points

Nice to see Pirates going for youth in the team. Only 17 years old so we must be prepared to give the lad a chance and not get on his case if and when he has zero scoring meetings. Reports have been all positive with praise from the Eastbourne camp. If he can add a point to his starting average, that’s all we can expect and should be happy with. Welcome to Poole Nathan.6 points

Not forgetting the programme insert that they put into old programmes for meetings that have been rained off, really encourages people does that.3 points

Just to add that this has the full support and encouragement of the Poole promotion who cannot (at the moment) show their hand officially' I've sent my comments along similar lines as above but re your last sentence I have also added a bit about any new stadium redevelopment should be under a different leaseholder ie NOT G.I. (Personally I cannot see why the Stadium is not specifically mentioned by name as the Dolphin Leisure Centre and Lighthouse theatre are? Although I still feel that the soon-to-be-announced Poole Town FC proposals - currently under a confidentiality agreement - will have a lot to do with it!!)3 points

Apologies if this is a duplicate thread. As some of you may be aware, the land on which Poole Stadium stands has been ear marked for future redevelopment in the BCP Councils Local Plan to regenerate the town and surrounding areas. Now is the chance until March 7th for people to have their say on the notion. If any of you could please spare 5/10 minutes of your time & make your voices heard in support of the club and speedway as a sport in helping to preserve the stadiums status as a sporting venue it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. https://haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/localplan2 points

Interesting topic having just read all the posts about getting kids, teenagers and families to attend. I often think this is a problem at most Speedway clubs in that so much focus is placed on trying to get new fans through, when actually they would be far better placed to try and get previous fans back who have decided to stop attending. That is of course easier said than done, but you are at least then preaching to the converted (or at least they were at one point) instead of a complete newbie who has no idea what is going on with no connection to the team or sport. When I first went to speedway in 2000 it was billed as a “family sport” and a night out for a the family. I think that’s absolute garbage. It should be billed as an extreme sport. 4 guys racing flat out with no brakes is about as extreme as it gets and that’s the selling point I think.2 points

Great minds think alike. Oxford Cheetahs and Oxford Chargers. I quite like that. Much better than every feline nicknamed club calling their junior side "Cubs".2 points

When the date was offered it didn't have to be accepted. Also with the sudden change would suggest that all riders and teams know the provisional fixture list which wouldn't of been available at the time of setting the original date. Just another excuse to blame Rob for something2 points

It does make me laugh when some cov fans come on here moaning about Poole fans and the club and cheating, think they should think back to when a certain polish rider missed a meeting so he could stay at reserve for the play offs. With the club stating he was injured the FACT WAS HE WASN'T so who was cheating then?.2 points

Yes - alienate your regulars by ripping them off with an overpriced piece of tat masquerading as a programme when all most want is a basic scorecard2 points

LOL. If someone is telling you that a speedway club has lost over £1.1 million in two years, they're pulling your plonker. And if they had, I don't think they'd be telling every keyboard fan. I'd suggest the only people with sight of the club p&L account are the two owners and their accountants. So unless your insider info has come from them, I think you've been had.2 points

No site news required & team news sorted so it is quiet on our thread, like a few others. I would not say yours is interesting as it is getting a bit tedious.2 points

I'm sure that's what people like about you on here, the pleasant way you come across I've got a suggestion to increase income, get rid of the out of date programme which is overpriced and in many cases poor and provide something on a digital platform and/or a phone app which is much more accessible and get with the times. Done properly and everyone could be a winner.2 points

Thanks Skidder . Yes happy with that move. You only have to look at that Eastbourne race on Youtube to see that the lad has potential, and that was his first meeting for them. Such a shame Eastbourne closed so quickly after thus depriving him of more meetings/experience at that level. I really hope Poole supporters exercise patience with him. We have been kind of spoiled for so long having strong reserves over the years. Will be nice to see him progress and also as an asset (following your above comments) its an added bonus. Will no doubt have plenty of last places, but let's concentrate on the positives when he does beat riders and picks up points like he did in that Eastbourne ride & meeting with 4 paid 5 from 4 rides. Will also be good having experienced riders in the pits to help and a good manager in Middlo. You never know, if anything like late last season we could even have Jack Holder (and maybe even Chris as well) attending in the pits when not on riding duties elsewhere. They sure did help out some of our young riders during those last meetings giving advice. That's the kind of experience young riders like Nathan will hopefully learn from.2 points

Barry Briggs once said that to be World Champion you had to string 5 decent starts together. Mort and Booey were lucky if they could string two or three good starts together. It didn’t show at league level because most riders were average gaters and they could both come through from the back, but is a different kettle of fish at World Final level, missing the gate when race after race after face you have Mauger , Briggs , Fundin , etc or riders of that standard who dont exactly wave you through. I don’t think home track advantage makes much difference at that level. There were one or two exceptions perhaps but they were very rare.2 points

Getting back on thread....what would B'ham fans preference be to how we utilise the remaining 20.51 points to complete the team? 2.5 on a reserve and 2 X 9.00 riders? That would certainly make for a strong line-up and change people's opinion of us finishing bottom.2 points

I'll stick with Exeter as Crumpie himself said if it was held there he'd win and also it's the only example so far of a rider not on his home track.1 point

They run the club now for 5 years and lost money every year and I’m told the bv 2020 accounts show eye watering £630,000 losses which is up over £100k from 2019. I thought smith and his lot was top rate business people. First rule in business is make money. They’ll never get that money back from a sport that’s seriously bust!1 point

I think Flint and Kemp will be at reserve all season. That doesn't mean they wont improve, just that it wont be enough to dislodge any of the top 5.1 point

Just go on the programme generator and print your own racecard, thats what i do all the other information a programme contains can be found online or in the star.1 point

Birmingham had a lot of close meetings last year that went down to the last few heats, and with the likes of Harris and Riss in heats 13 and 15 there was always a chance they could win. Add to that some needle matches with other teams moaning about the track creating atmosphere, pit walks, track walks with the riders and kids entertainment, we still struggled to get decent crowds in. Other than what they were doing, I can't see how they will get the numbers required through the turnstiles. But I hope they do because its a smashing club and we all want them to survive and continue for many years to come.1 point

Lucky for 13 years?! They won three league titles and 4 KO Cups. And most seasons if they weren't there they were thereabouts. In '76 when they won the double they lost No.1 John Louis for six weeks due to injury and No 3 Tony Davey also missed a couple at the time due to a workshop accident yet operated R/R and double R/R instead of guests. Louis was top of the averages so in theory could have used any one as a guest. Berry took a stand as he could see the damage that guests did to the credibility of the sport. It can be done.1 point

That should keep STEVEHOLS54 happy!! and when he's done 12 meetings he becomes a Poole asset.1 point

And they also only finished outside the top six twice in that period too when on average the top flight had 16-18 teams. So not to shabby with a promotion that wanted to use their own riders.1 point

Putting a team together that can win their home matches is the best thing the new promotion can do, in my opinion.1 point

Does one of them include "know your market"? Which includes doing research into what people want, what they expect, etc etc? Ever seen a speedway promotion doing market research? And, no, not of the existing fan base, but of people who aren't fans? Finding out what it will take to convert a passer-by into an attendee? Surely to grow the fan base, that's an essential first step. After that, mould the product to what the public are prepared to buy into, and NOT just regurgitate the same product that was offered up in the 1970's on a take it or leave it basis.1 point

I think it will be us/Newcastle and Scunthorpe battling it out for 'bottom' spot....no surprises!1 point

As all the teams haven't been announced yet difficult to say, Berwick could be an outsider depending who the last rider is. My feeling is the best team that has been announced is Glasgow.1 point

Yes I was too but it was bought as a Christmas present from wife and Daughters plus she wanted to buy before January so she was in the free ticket draw .. Anyway the Club have now been in contact having seen my post on here..1 point

You are right. Speedway's decline began in 1981... the second year of the Tory rule. But the sport's fortunes gradually picked up in 1997, when Labour won power, and two years' later it had a live match on TV every week. I believe public awareness increased. In the last 13 years of Tory rule, going back to 2010, I believe the sport has suffered a rapid decline. I know it's merely an opinion... even a coincidence. But I remember someone mentioning it once, reading it somewhere, that speedway prospered during Labour governments.1 point
