  1. Skidder1 no club over here should pay guarantees no matter what league they are in.

  3. Hi all and Happy New Year. This week in the repair shop there is an old speedway related item being restored. Depending on which newspaper you get the information from, it is either a pair of boots that evoke bittersweet memories or a bedraggled piece of material that turns out to be a vintage speedway bib that played a crucial role in one family's history. Could be an interesting watch. At the very least we get a mention on the beeb!

  4. Why wait till September...? Sign Woffy and use guests all year long for him... "Unfortunatley Tai cannot be here tonight (again), due to (fill your own reason in), but instead we have been very lucky to book the services of Scott Nicholls, (again).. "We did try and book Bomber, (the other usual "go to" guest rider for all teams), but quickly realised that he was already riding for us"...

  5. I didn't know you had a speedway bike Col. Although you might be quicker out of the start on your push bike than the Bandits riders.

  7. If your'e prepared to say it's not a rumour as it came from a Championship promotion, then i'm afraid as far as i'm concerned then it remains a rumour unless you name the promotion.

  9. The better riders in speedway as per other classes of two wheel motor sport agree their financial deals and then get on with their job of racing in an attempt to win. Those speedway riders who “need” significant guarantees either doubt their own ability to deliver what is expected of them or smell fear in a desperate promoter. (or both).

  10. Not even one clap. Not really innovative at all. The effort should have gone into creating a story that would reach non-speedway people in the central belt of Scotland. Like most speedway PR, including stunts, they are preaching to the converted. Tell it straight; put in on your website and social media at the same time. The fans will then know - and yes the Speedway Star on a Thursday. But, if you have the time and ability, find something really innovative to reach people who never go to speedway.Grab their attention.

  15. Stronger than start of last season imo. Brennan step up from wells, Hume got more improvement than sedgeman and basso at worst on a level with Sam, although on Danish form would be better. Need to get Connor more meetings, NL or premiership to keep him active and should improve a fair bit too. Don't think it's a rye house with woofy on a 3, or king's Lynn with batch at reserve level of team, but should be there or thereabouts

  16. Ok but what about supporter retention too? I don’t disagree that we need to engage the ‘non-speedway people’ but it doesn’t have to be an either or. Seems an odd thing to moan about - I think it was a good way of doing it and built a little bit of excitement in the week running up.

  20. Yeah if Berwick could get Jorgensen to change his mind I'd fancy you big time to win the league, if have to settle for a Gap or similar signing then maybe play offs at best. Happy with the Glasgow side but wouldn't say it's strongest team I've ever seen and as always be down to luck and injuries

  21. If Berwick make decent last signing with the points they have to play with they will be dark horses IMO.Potential there with Glasgow IF Ulle comes back OK.

  23. Another example of a speedway club trying to be far too clever when releasing news. They should remember the KISS rule.

  24. Its a team that will be tough to beat at home ,think they will struggle with away fixtures. Alot of teams this season have been built to be strong at home this season it's going to be interesting.

  25. I’m not sure I’d go as far as saying he’s a danger to others, and perhaps “terrible” is too strong a word to use. In my view, he’s a terrific grass and long tracker, sports that require riders to sit on the seat all the way through, but can’t adapt his style to speedway where the top riders move off their seat during the race to switch between grip and speed. If you watch Zmarzlik for instance, he never stays still. I watched the 1980 (I think) Intercontinental Final on YouTube recently, won by Chris Morton and you could see him doing the same thing, working the bike for the whole race. James just seems to let the bike work him. I had hoped that riding in the same team as Chris Harris would have helped him by spotting how the Bomber changes styles for different disciplines but maybe James is too set in his ways to change? After all, he’s been riding grasstrack since he was 6!

  28. Really ? The technique has won many finals all round the globe and has improved every year in uk , one of the liveliest riders to watch on a bike . A rider doesn’t loose his technique in the premier league and get it back in the championship in same week,I would have a close look at management as they are not there too eat, seems to me the witches fail as a team regular home and away,no rider wants 0 points as that is 0 dollars Comments like ‘easier bigger tracks’ makes me aware that you have no idea of racing speedway for a living

  29. Over 850,000 people live in Norfolk, 213,000 of them in Norwich then 63,000 to the East in Great Yarmouth! I still think theirs enough people in the Norwich and East Norfolk area that currently don't go to speedway who'd be interested in spectating at a new track in Norwich without impacting on the nearby Ipswich, King's Lynn and Mildenhall tracks. I doubt anyone from the Norwich area goes regularly to Peterborough speedway which is the best part of 2 hours drive away! As for riders well as is the same with fans the more tracks the more people come out of the woodwork to spectate and ride. Indeed one of East Anglia's greatest riders ever John Louis only took up speedway once speedway returned to Foxhall in 1969. - If Messrs John Berry and Joe Thurley wouldn't have reopened in 1969 its highly unlikely Louis would of even thought about speedway!

  34. Fundin and Nygren backed up by "Gentleman" Aub Lawson in the twilight of his career I seem to recall. There's a trio that would frighten the lives out of today's "SGP sooperstar" riders. Always wondered what would happen in a tussle between Mr N. Pedersen and any of Ove , Olle and Aub. :-) :-)

  39. It is remarkable that only in British Speedway can we hear on the one hand a shortage of riders (even with almost everyone doubling up), and yet speculative discussions of new tracks opening....... In the case of Norwich, any former Norwich speedway supporters will have long lost interest and moved on. . I doubt there are enough speedway folk left in Norfolk and Suffolk combined to support another track without impacting on the existing tracks at KL Ippo and Mildy. (not to mention PBoro.)

  42. I will make a very brief return to clarify some points made here. Yes, I do have a very detailed knowledge of what is going on, having served throughout this saga as an advisor to Steve Ribbons. We have been friends for many years. I have therefore read and advised on all correspondence between the Rye House Action Group, the leaseholders, Carter & Bailey, the land owners, The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, the planning authority, East Herts Council and also the SCB. I also supplied information to the public via the Speedway Star and social media. I even trusted this forum to accept the information I was sharing in good faith. Sadly while most responses were intelligent and respectful about our efforts others saw personal vendettas as far more important. At the point where I ceased posting here I also told Steve to 'leave me out of the loop' for some time while I dealt with my own ill-health. After a good break I hope now to resume assisting. I will however keep postings here to an absolute minimum. Here is the current situation: All is on hold until the planning application is heard by the council. We hope that this will not be delayed too much further. We have issued a detailed proposal which would see the speedway track restored and racing resume. This was at the invitation of the kart promoters who even suggested that we might be able to resume racing in time to join the NDL in 2022. They subsequently changed their position to say that our proposal was now to be included in a list of options to be considered after seeing their planning permission granted. Much work has taken place. The stadium and race track have been modified but not irreversibly. We have engaged specialists to assess the way to reinstate and crucially the cost. We do have access to funds that would pay for track reinstatement and entry to the NDL. We have the technical, legal and financial resources to see this project through. Steve is a key player but far from the only. We are not dreamers but sadly right now we are in the hands of the kart promoters. THESE THINGS TAKE TIME. I am not going down the road of this being a starting point for what is too often damaging and ill-informed speculation. Our priorities lie with the job in hand, not satisfying the egos of the darker side of the BSF. Sorry to the decent contributors. Rob McCaffery. (51 year fan)
