  1. We have been through terrible times , almost going out of business on numerous occasions, had more homes than possibly any other team, but when the Facenna's took over, they were trying to save the fooball and speedway at Ashfield, don't know if you have ever been, but the stadium was an absolute dump, toilets a no go area, the Facenna's spent a lot of money upgrading it and the track, widening it and digging out the underlying holes and bumps. They paid riders on time without fail, and yes initially they overpaid to get riders to come , as the travelling was an issue, but since the guarantee with a previous rider who let us down on numerous occasions, we no longer give guarantees, riders are paid on performance. Glasgow were not the top payers in the league. We are just trying to raise the profile of speedway nationally. I hope no more teams are lost. Happy new year to all speedway fans and all clubs, hope we can get rid of this covid virus and get back to some sort of normality.

  4. Great Britain or England, I can accept either, team GB is just a a play with words, I don’t subscribe to this sort of hype.

  5. Considering in 1965 the new British league had no Craven (killed) Moore Fundin Knutsson (retired) of the big 5 and only Briggs left. So it wasn’t the big stars that saved speedway in the U.K. but bread and butter riders and a variety of teams week to week. Could it happen again probably no as people are far more informed these days and the ‘mystery’ aspect of an unseen rider coming next week in sos and so teams doesn’t happen any longer.

  11. What strikes me as quite alarming, is the fact that the internet and social media in particular have gained in popularity over the years whilst this forum is getting quieter and quieter by the month. The winter months on here used to be full of discussions, anticipation for the new season and new signings etc... nowadays it really is flat on here barring a few threads.

  23. Good News coming from Colin Jewes, who has put his speedwaychampions website online again. It is all the same as it was a couple of years ago, when it was taken down. The website will not be updated anymore, though, but nevertheless it is still a terrific source of Information. Here is the Link https://speedwaychampions.yolasite.com/

  31. His home track is owned by his father and he's grown up riding it,it's big and fast very wide and I thought when Plymouth went to scunny last season he would be good, quite the opposite unfortunately he can definitely ride a speedway bike fast but in traffic and tight starts he really struggled, he may have progressed in the last 9 months I don't know,he's got great backing and keen as mustard so maybe worth a punt.

  35. I'm pretty sure everyone would choose Wells over Ostergaard right now, especially with Ricky's very good knowledge of the Berwick and Edinburgh tracks. Letting him go to Berwick (wether or not that was the management's decision or the rider's) will definitely come back to haunt the Tigers. Ostergaard won't be anywhere near the same rider as he was but by the time the management have figured that out it will be too late to bring someone in on his starting average. Mid-table at best.

  41. Last time at Newcastle he never scored massive but was good to watch ! I recall the track was a bit greasy & he attacked it & if it wasn't for a fall he'd have probably scored a paid 9 from 4 rides so let's give the lad a chance to get dialled in & I'm sure he'll achieve a 8 & a half point average easily around brough & maybe hit a 9

  43. Yea speedway in a pickle too many people in charge with self interest, but where did the big crowds go too, and how do they get attracted back ? Just got to look at the channel 5 documentary birds bikes and blokes with Workington featured, massive crowds home and away, but in 2018 even for the last few meetings when trophies were won, the crowds weren't anywhere near those in the documentary. God only knows how to solve it, as some of the promoter's and sponsors with deep pockets will get sick and walk away, then where will speedway be? May have to revert the 2nd league to be part time like it was in the 70's, 80's and early 90's.not having young riders wanting to do it full time with a nice van umpteen bikes and full time mechanic.

  44. Think the administrator needs to do some weeding. This thread clearly belongs in the Championship Speedway section now that the promoter of the club has declared he is running a team in the Championship.

  46. speedway has never moved on . watched this today before i actually seen THJ,s documentary and the sport still seems to be run the same . a good watch . the posts on here are correct in every way . clubs throwing cash @ riders and hoping the fans will pay for it . clubs only have theme selves to blame . hope it sinks in somewhere ! It,s a £10.00 sport all day long .

  47. It did certainly feel as if there could be a "new dawn" during those first couple of Sky seasons... I seem to remember a lot of TV meetings having some "entertainment plan" included to try and make an "event" out of the evening, with, on quite a few occasions I attended, a reduced entrance fee using the 'extra money' Sky gave them for showing the meeting from their track... Then it all stopped and fell back into the usual stuff we still have today.. I hadn't seen that doc so was interested to hear Chris Louis' earnings from around that time, (almost six figures). So you can only wonder what the likes of Tony R were on then? And Danny Kelly's views on Speedway and where it could go to if marketed correctly were particularly interesting given his background.. £9 to get in at KL too, which is on par today when you add in inflation.. Of course post that doc, Sky subsequently put well over a million in a season for circa 20 years which sadly was the golden opportunity to leave a great legacy for the sport.. Probably the biggest mistake made ever was how the Sky money was used, and sadly, that lost opportunity to truly develop the sport to any where near its potential may never come again.. (In the UK)...

  48. Millions of pounds given to the teams by Sky since then too... Quite an incredible "achievement" to deliver what we have today...
