Don’t know what all the fuss is about Basso. He will be riding for Glasgow and Peterborough. That all that should corcern forum members as we’re not having to put up any money to pay for who he rides for.8 points

Riders are only an asset to a viable business and are only a paper value with no extraneous value so when the business goes the (Person) asset goes as well: My pals son played for a Scottish football team which went pop a few years back; he was worth £125k to £150K on paper and whilst the club were in Administration the Administrator tried to sell him for £25k to realise some cash to try and keep the place afloat; however no-one came in for him at that time knowing when the club went pop they would be able to obtain the boy for a lot less than even the £25k... how this scenario worked out was if any club had bought him he would have been entitled to a 5% signing on fee so £7.5k on the £150k valuation; and at £25k that dropped to £1,250 quid so he didn't really want to move either to be fair; so when the club went bust the Liquidators looked to strip the assets of the club; however People; Players; Employee's are not tangible assets of an entity or business so they move on and my pal's son did just that and got a £10k signing on fee off his new club; he got more cash than he would of even if sold at £150k and the purchasing club got him £16,250 quid cheaper than they would have done if they had bought him off the Administrator for £25k... Furthermore since "The Slavery Abolition Act of 1833" people are not allowed to own people its as simple as that; it gives a false impression that because riders (Players in Football) are assets of a club and the club owns their contracts that there is a value in them; however as stated that value is only there whilst the club are trading and should that business stop trading there is no value whatsoever in those assets to the folded business.. very simple analogy however I hope it explains why there were no riders listed as assets by the liquidator... The air fence is slightly different as it is a Tangible Asset however it is also what is known as a Depreciating Asset and as such represents how much of an asset's value has been used. Depreciating assets help companies earn revenue from an asset while potentially expensing a portion of its cost each year the asset is in use and it allows for a portion of the cost to be written off against tax. Depreciation is what happens when assets lose value over time until the value of the asset becomes zero, or negligible. Depreciation can happen to virtually any fixed asset, including office equipment, computers, machinery, buildings, and so on hence why the tractor and machinery were mentioned in the liquidators report as they had some value. Depreciation is intended to roughly reflect the actual consumption of the underlying asset, so that the carrying amount of the asset has been reduced to its salvage value by the time its useful life is over and you can sell a depreciated asset, however any profit relative to the item's depreciated price is a capital gain. ... So if you have wrote the item down against a tax liability over a period for example, to write down the cost of the Tractor to nothing and then you sold it for £1200, the entire selling price would be a taxable gain. So every asset has a useful life, which is an accounting estimate of how long that asset will last. ... This continues until the asset is fully depreciated. Assets get depreciated down to zero or to their salvage value, which is what the company thinks it could get for the asset at the end of its useful life and unless you had a trade in making Elephant condoms I am not sure what you would do with an Air Fence after 10 or so years. Although the amount of times that one has been punctured at Brough I am not sure Elephant condoms would be the best use for it. One simple example is that we have just bought a New VW Transporter for the business at circa £25k and our accountant writes these vehicles down by £5k each year so by year 5 with around 150k miles on the clock these vans are rated as being worthless to the business and if a liquidator came in tomorrow he would spend a couple of hours marketing the van and selling it for say £18 or £20k however if we went pop 5 years from now that van would be scrapped with a 2 minute phone call for £100 pounds as why would a liquidator whose fees are anything from £200 to £2000 pound per hour spend any more than a 20p phone call to get rid of it. So long response to a simple question; however an air fence which cost about £20k around 7 or 8 years back will have been well and truly written off by now and if the club had of went down the pan the liquidator would probably say to anyone who wanted it to take it to save him the cost of disposing of it. Wey hey Wee Nonce Troll McTrollface is back and doesn't understand what he has read and what the Eck he is on about as usual... lets just say if leaving the club with "a debt to HMRC of £158,048" which has been made reference too by the liquidator doesn't show the “mess” left by the previous promotion and that this debt does still exist? and if the collapsing of the old business by the new one doesn't also show that the “mess” left by the previous promotion existed I don't know what more information you require? you need to crawl back under that rock Biffa... Elephant Condom for @Wee Eck to stick his massive tool of a head in please... Regards THJ5 points

Pretty much what ulle said about Redcar last season, felt hard done by but you don't fall out because you just never know4 points

Success for Birmingham in 2022 is easy to measure. If they come to tapes for 2023, it's been a huge success.4 points

Ellis would be a good shout certainly he is local. I think his demands would be excessive though in terms of equipment and pay rates. Credit to the new Promotion who seem to be running a tight ship already; which is why I understand a few riders who've been offered silly (very silly in some cases) money elsewhere may have been lost. As I've said and will keep saying, it's imperative that this Promotion are here in 2023 and for many years after that!4 points

Given the fact we are lucky to have speedway, I think the Promotion have done a great job putting this team together. I would have been delighted to see Complin back in speedway full stop as his fantastic ability and massive kahoonas during a race was there to see on the track. But even more delighted it’s with a Diamonds race jacket. A team of racers and entertainers indeed.4 points

Apparently basso approached Glasgow and said it would be great if they could sign him on for 2022 season because he wanted to ride on a decent track with knowledgeable supporters but he was thankful to poole for being a stepping stone to better things Apparently3 points

It also has trophy cabinets :-) - no use for them in Glasgow , maybe you will re-instate the Scottish Cup if Edinburgh will give it back :-)3 points

Matt never announces until all 7 are signed and sealed - its been the same for a number of seasons - and then its 'drip-fed' to give the media maximum opportunity for coverage over the 'off-season'! As far as the rent situation is concerned, there is still an issue and its more down to various people's availability for a 'sit-down' rather than being a 'major' stumbling block!3 points

I feel bad even dignifying you with an answer... But things ain't that bad... If Lee can even get back to anywhere near the entertainer he used to be, he'll be a brilliant number 2 or number 4. Him and Max could ride either position then... Yeah, we not the strongest team in the league, but we have a team and for that I am grateful. We have so many entertaining riders, we may not win a lot, but we're never gonna give up 1. Bradley Wilson Dean 2. Lee Complin 3. Matthew Wethers 4. Max Clegg 5. Paul Starke 6. George Congreve 7. James Wright The 2022 Newcastle Diamonds3 points

Never a good time to announce the passing of a dear friend ( ken Davies ) who sadly passed away on the 11/12/2021.. ken was a avid supporter of the diamonds also an incredibly hard working former member of the Newcastle speedway supporters club committee & it's down to ken how the speedway club were allowed to be able to hold functions at the south gosforth club.. R.I.P ken you'll be greatly missed on the table near the speedway office every Sunday mate2 points

Agree. His record in the first 4 seasons of the BL was top class and he reached the World Final in 1967. However he dropped about 2 points on his average in 1969 and was at about a similar standard when he went to Cradley in 1970. Sadly, Lokeren meant that we never found out if he could ride himself out of this dip in form.2 points

10 years retired is a long time, look at Crump last season. Would love to be proved wrong, but can't see how that is a good signing with over 6 points left.2 points

I think tarnishing Lee Complin with the same brush as Lewis Bridger is a bit harsh.2 points
-
I just hope that Complin doesn't have a load of money thrown at him for new kit etc then packs up after a few weeks because the comeback hasn't been as good as in his head when more deserving riders could benefit from that level of sponsorship. Touch of the Bridgers comes to mind but as ever i hope to be proven wrong.2 points

I think Belle Vue are now where speedway should always have been and that’s a community run operation. The sport doesn’t afford the sums to finance stadiums and riders alike and has been shown in the south east that cash strapped promotions and development pressures have meant we have no speedway to talk of sadly.1 point

...he was never that good when he rode for the "Cheetahs" Junior Team I recall!1 point

Have to agree,in his prime he was only averaging just over 7.Wish him all the best though he is a100% effort and a good guy.1 point

What about Charley Powell. I saw him ride at Lydd and Iwade last season. He was also very impressive on the grass.1 point

Chapman is just another in a long line of promoters that threatens to pull out when things go against him. Didn’t he do it last season? It does so much damage to the sport. We had one like him at Belle Vue for years, threatening this and that, with the track closing every winter. It never did. I initially worried sick about the statements... but you just become distanced from it in time and, do you know what, realise that putting so much effort, affection and energy into something that might not be there next week, you concentrate on something that will be.1 point

Has Zane Keleher signed for Oxford ? He does seem to "like" a Cheethas tweet. If so your getting a dedicated Aussie racer who can make further strides in the UK in 2022.1 point

Came to Newcastle with a nickname of 'Tommy Gun',,, by the end of the season he left as a 'Nerf Gun'.1 point

It appears to be One of Rob’s major downfalls, his press releases are comical at best. A good PR person would be a good signing.1 point

Yes, but Belle Vue were good enough to win nearly every match. I would still say the team of Morton, Collins, Ross, Courtney, Smith, P Carr, McKinna is stronger than Sanders, Cook, Niemi, Doncaster, Knight, Flatman, Blackbird. Fun season though.1 point

It is very pleasing that people are upset by this but on this occasion I think Blobby is wrong I think Tom will push an 8 point average , just need to get confirmation that Basso is in-fact not a Poole asset and Glasgow get him for free. Can you imagine the meltdown when that happens my jaw will be aching for days laughing.1 point

If he had of been given the chance would of been approaching his peak Steve tackling the likes of Lee, Penhall, Nielsen , Gundersen, Carter,.For me had a great chance of winning world championships but only my humble view he was a great ambassador of the game to a humble bloke stylish classy rider.1 point

So depressing accurate but talk about the writing was on the wall…it could have been made last year!! When you look at Chapmans behaviour it’s of little surprise the sport has spiralled in to a big black hole. He exudes incompetence and yet he was allowed to eventually run the sport, sadly into the ground.1 point

I think crump will Be in the team. He’s not said he’s retired again and is keen to race if someone will have him, he goes pretty well round NSS and on a low average too !1 point

My understanding is 8 meeting’s to be an asset but 4h 4a to get a Cma. he has 8 meetings but 3h 5a hence why he is still assessed.1 point

I've read on the forum that Thomas Jorgensen doesn't want to ride in the Champ next year, but if Berwick could sign him, they'd be one of my title favourites!1 point

Lol……I think I’ve heard most riders say in their after season speeches that they’d like to return the following year….1 point

Hey I like Rob as what you see is what you get he's a genuine bloke... He is sometimes portrayed as the pantomime villain but does that not come with the job... There is a great deal more to get upset about in Speedway than Rob Godfrey thats for sure... Regards THJ1 point
