What happens when another team is just 0.16 above scunnys 0.16 and so forth. There has to be a cut off point somewhere!6 points

If our friend Lord Ford has been screwed over then bloody good job, he's done it enough to others in the past. FWIW the press release sounds like a toys-out-of-the-pram load of cobblers to appease the regulars, although I expect we'll never know the truth.5 points

In my opinion this is all just for the fans, Basso said himself that riding for Poole next season was complicated, he is hardly going to drop his Danish team to ride for Poole. The Ford's knew that he was very unlikely to be able to ride for us on a Wednesday, probably just annoyed they can't get a loan fee as he hasn't done enough meetings to be an asset. It is most likely that the team plans haven't involved Basso for a while and he was signed by Glasgow weeks ago.The problem was that the fans took him to their hearts so they had to release a statement telling fans how hard they had tried to keep him.4 points

And Poole still have to agree a loan fee with his parent club if indeed he signs. Now who could that be.3 points

Not at all, Buster has done it for years and it's embarrassing and cringeworthy when he does. Bottom line is that riders come and go as self employed sportsmen, you win some and lose some. The reaction from Dorset has surprised me to be honest, lacks class. You are allowed to criticise your own promotion by the way, its ok3 points
-
Not sure why Poole are surprised… riders always use smaller clubs as a stepping stone in there progression, thats all Basso has done here and now hes moved to a much better run club.. when you add in how much the new MX bike he would of needed for the Poole track it all makes sense3 points

From what has been said about the 'culprits' on here previously, it would be burnt-out and possibly with the security people still inside3 points

Didn't do MPT or TJ any harm slumming it in a six berth caravan in the pits. Only illegal dinghy people get 4 star hotel, free board, phones and pocket money!3 points

Rather Matt than Buster tbh! A KL fan going on about toys out of the pram is a bit ironic!3 points

You have absolutely no clue what Glasgow pay their riders or a clue what's in his contract. Bad enough get this rubbishe from clubs already in championship but when you're getting from Poole fans? Just take the bitter pill that is your own medicine n realise you're not the be all and end all of British speedway3 points

Let me say what i do know about Laurence Rogers, Firstly I have no idea if he owes anyone any money or not, he is a Speedway Fan above all else, he lives, eats, sleeps, breathes Speedway and has done for many years, yes its true that many of his Speedway projects have fallen by the wayside Mildenhall, Newport, to name a few and he has been involved with other Teams such as Coventry and more recently Plymouth, then there was the young American touring Teams put together by Steve Evans and others. Laurence is an ordinary working guy just like you and I who has done his best to try to keep these teams going, yes primarily with other peoples money but had he not tried then the majority of these Teams would have closed down sooner rather than later, Its surely better to have tried and failed then to have not tried at all, he is always willing to give young riders help and assistance to get on in the sport, The other thing that I know about Laurence is that if I contacted him wanted some help with something to do with Speedway he would most likely never say no and that maybe that is his biggest failing if it can be called that. I agree he is probably not the finest team manager that there ever was but thats possibly more to do with budget restrictions than anything else. My final word, It would probably have been easier for Laurence to walk away from Birmingham speedway and let it be consigned to the history books than to have the hassle and ingratitude of some by trying to keep speedway in Birmingham, but NO speedway is in his blood just like you and I, agreed maybe its not his money but no-one forces these people to put money into clubs that are struggling to survive, one thing is for sure Speedway will be the poorer when he finally decides enough is enough.3 points

Because it is run by amateurs who have continually failed to market the product. Those in charge would have trouble making a corner shop successful let alone an entertainment product that could be so good if they had imagination and the foresight to promote it for what it is, four riders racing hell for leather for four laps on machines with no brakes and that in itself requires a specific set of skill sets. No instead let’s piss about with rules that no one understands, teams that are not unique with double up/down and a series of league meetings which mean dick all as you have a system of play offs that mean you need only ride to a certain standard, get guests and win the championship with a group of riders who have been brought together to boost the ego of the club owner. The sport is a joke and until it is managed professionally with clubs towing an external party line, it will never attract serious sponsorship or attract main stream publicity be it press, radio or television. It has a group of hard core ageing fans watching the decline in this country of sport that in its current form is part of a bygone era.2 points

Going back to the 1950's, the rule was that any rider who had scored less than 50% of possible points over the previous 6 matches, could be named as reserve. This gave Team Managers of the time much more options when selecting their teams - especially for away matches. There was never any ruling then, of which rider could only be named as number one - the Team Manager was free to juggle the riding numbers of his riders in any way he wanted. In those days, team were of eight men - 6 in the team proper, and 2 as reserves. Matches were over 14 heats with the 6 team-proper men programmed for four rides and the reserves two each, but each reserve could have an additional two rides in the place of an off form team-proper man, or if a visiting team happened to be a man short as sometimes happened, each of the reserves could take two of the missing man's rides. The modern idea of allowing reserves to have up to seven rides is nonsensical and frequently gives the reserves a totally disproportionate say in results. Towards the end of the 1950's, the format was changed to 7-man teams but with 3 pairings, each taking five rides, and only one reserve, and again, the reserve was programmed for only two rides but could replace a team-proper man in another three. This seemed a much better system to me, and I'd like to see it brought back.2 points

I must say I was surprised at the outburst from the promotion re Basso moving on. I thought it was a given that he would not be back for 2022 considering all the clashes with Danish fixtures. It's one thing to sign halfway through a season, and I was glad he did!, but to commit to a full season would not have worked for him or the club. I for one am grateful for his contribution to Poole's success in 2021 and wish him well for the future.2 points

I don't have sympathy for Poole. Yes Basso probably was expected to sign but like Plymouth expected Lawson to come. Poole are a well run club and will find a replacement.2 points

I think easy to underestimate how badly injured Jordan Stewart was in that crash at PB it was horiffic not unlike the one Mitchell Davey had. Maybe a year in some Aussie sun may be the best healer. Edwards is an excellent prospect as good as any of the current crop. The respective Team Managers at Eastbourne and Plymouth last season probably wanted short term fixes and overruled their Owners at the time. Edwards improved a lot once he got substantial NDL track time at Mildenhall. He's one for the future and Redcar have 2 excellent and improving reserves with him and Jenkins. A nicely balanced side.2 points

No comparison. I went to Glasgow for the playoff final and was shocked how small the crowd was in their clubs biggest meeting. Empty seats all over the place in the grandstand and probably no more than 1200 there. Crowd was double the size at Poole. Having said that the stadium was tidy, and the fans were very friendly. Nice setup.2 points

Both Poole and Glasgow are big clubs, Poole have been successful for a long time, Glasgow are making strides, year on year, considering where we were at when the Facenna's took over, that is a major achievement in a short time, starting from a dump of a stadium and very few assets.2 points

The track is in excellent condition, we all know it. Trackerman has done a brilliant job and the racing at Poole is top notch. I believe he has been asked to continue his work for next season. Looking at the likely Poole team, we will again be the team to beat. Three very strong heat leaders two improving second strings, and if it is Kemp at reserve we shall always have someone at the bottom capable of winning heats, as it will be him or one of the Cook brothers. Two titles on the bounce? Highly possible if we steer clear of injuries.2 points

Poole one of the best run clubs in British speedway, hence the success, hence why anyone that's any good wants to ride for them. What's this about the track, know complaints from anyone, best it's been for a long time, agreed its had its problems, but it's fine now2 points
-
I believe over the years the options have been taken away & now all the fans are left with is a set menu. There is now nothing for the terrace manager to discuss. All that can be done in todays speedway is to put a TS in when you go 6 behind & this is only once. I think teams should start with a named squad of ten riders working with a team on a set average & then must track a team of riders below that limit all season so that teams are kept level all season. The top 5 should be able to be positioned where they are most suited & paired up as the manager wants. Tac Subs should be unlimited but only when 8 or more behind with riders only allowed one per meeting.2 points

Lets all hope Workington (Comets?) can make a come back soon. If its true they can run open meetings next year, then lets all support their comeback and make sure it a success and they are not lost again. Having read about their recent set back and by the look of the pictures of their new track (class), lets all hope there is support from both local businesses and supporters and show that speedway has a place in Workington. If there's anyone out there who can help in any way, then I'm sure the promotion like any other promotion, would welcome any support big or small. So get in touch and help put Workington back on track. Who's up for the launch of the all new Workington (Comets?) Speedway? ☝☝☝2 points

Any outsider reading Poole’s statement on Basso would think that there was a degree of loyalty within the sport. Loyalty should be a two way street. In speedway, riders can be signed up and moved on within weeks if they don’t hit the ground running. Nobody is more ruthless in doing this than Poole. Money talks, get used to it.2 points

Nice to read some posts that are not just about money. We are not all blessed or lucky enough to have earned a fortune of cash to invest into something but, some people can only invest their time. Time isn't always cheap and when given free isn't always noticed.2 points

As of yet, Basso hasn’t signed for any club to compete in the U24 league and we are now outside of the transfer window. Even if he was going to be riding, Poland operate large squads so would anticipate they have plenty of cover for such a scenario.1 point

I've just re-read the book on Tommy Jansson. An excellent, if somewhat poignant, read with many references from different sources. It's clear that many of his rivals held him in high esteem. The likes of Briggs, Mauger, Michanek, Persson, Nordin and Collins all thought that he could have reached the very top. Ivan summed it up perfectly when he was quoted as saying "...that Tommy had everything but luck!" How true.1 point

Exactly and that is what they did in 2021. They got rid of Keleher and as Mr Shovlar has said spent big to get in Basso. As I've said in another post the Ford's reaction is purely to get a story in the local press and to get the pirates sheep, sorry fans, to support them, and get angry with Glasgow rather than with them. They must be lining up another purchase of a chateau1 point

The reduction is 2.5% but the greensheet averages on the bspa site are not the final ones, they still have to take out eastbourne matches, all promotions have the official gsa, we are just left in the dark1 point

The big (& grossly unfair)anomaly regarding riders being paid/not paid is that riders would be in an immediate breach of contract should they refuse to ride because of not being paid for previous work (meetings) done with the consequence of not being allowed to ride elsewhere in UK. Promoters however have no reciprocal action taken against them for not paying their workers/contractors “on time” Whilst clearly this set of circumstances is so that “The show must go on” (which wouldn’t happen if riders withhold their services) it seems appropriate that something along the lines of rules being set where riders must be paid no later than (say) 10 days past the due date and if that payment is not made then the BSPA makes the payment from the Bond fund. The delinquent promotion then has to reimburse the fund within a set period time with interest or face further sanctions. Frankly the only promotions who would be unable to live with this type of agreement are those who are in reality unviable in the first place and need to face the consequences sooner rather than later so the sport has a realistic financial & moral operating base to work within.1 point
