I'd have thought that mentioning Poole and Cheetahs in the same sentence, is inviting some interesting comments!3 points

Dont concern yourself about anyone in the Bowes family, you wont find a more genuine friendly family in the sport of speedway. Cheers Darrell Branford3 points

Adrian Smith will be another in quite a long line who have seen the sport from outside and thought "Wow! What potential".... So therefore, got involved, .. And, like others before him, would have gone into it thinking that all he had to do was highlight to the those already incumbent all the obvious inherent flaws that all can see hold the sport back in the UK... And then simply convince them that there are a great many alternative ways of moving this great sport forwards... However... Like so many others before him he has failed to take into account how insular and short term focused so many within the sport are, with many appearing to be "quite happy" with their lot as they hold 'some power'... Failing to grasp of course that they 'hold power' in a sport that hardly anyone has heard of, never mind cares about.. "Ideas People" are not wanted....3 points

He could be pleading for extra funds? extra help or going to tell the fans exactly what’s going on ? Best way to find out is by attending.2 points

Having watched all of them most weeks during their attachment to Wolverhampton, my view is that during their time with the club Olsen was by far the best rider of the three. Spectators expected him to win every time he came to the tapes and he rarely lost to anyone other than a high ranking opponent, especially at Monmore Green. Nielsen was on a steep learning curve for the first two of his four seasons with the club and although a high scorer in his last two seasons he was still well below the dominating level that he reached after moving to Oxford via Birmingham. Hans was not as adept at the art of team riding in those early stages in his league career as he later became. He left for Birmingham in 1981 when Wolverhampton dropped down for an ill-fated season in the National League. Sam was phenomenal at times at Monmore but he was sometimes erratic and prone to on-track errors which were rarely seen from the other two. I would still place Sam marginally ahead of Hans during their Wolverhampton years. In addition to the seasons referred to in an earlier post by Iris, Ermolenko also rode for Wolverhampton in 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2004, by which time he was well past his peak. My opinion only relates to their time spent with Wolverhampton and not their overall careers.2 points

Lots of stadiums have this ridiculous no food or drink ruling. A lot of football stadiums play the non violence card saying that full bottles can be used as weapons, so take them away but then when you get in the ground they are selling drink! Alot of people with specific dietary requirements, health issues, oldies (myself included) don't/can't eat unfrozen cheap fastfood or fizzy drinks stodge so need to take food and drink with them. I know King's Lynn have this rule (whether it is enforced more at stock cars than speedway I'm not sure ) which doesn't effect myself cause I don't go there nowadays but if I ever did decide to go back and was refused entry cause I had a bottle of water of some light refreshments then I'd ask for my admission money back and go home, probably never to return! Back to the subject matter - good luck in saving the Birmingham Brummies. If the consortium pulls this off then it may work out better than the Masons era cause living that far from the track you promote at like David and Peter did can't always be conducive to the tracks well being?2 points

Had a walk down to Northside today, plenty of activity from around a dozen volunteer's, the base is in and looks well packed down, plenty of camber on both bends and also on straights, inside curb being laid, about 2/3 done, shale ex Derwent park being sorted to be laid in the next few weeks, changing rooms and pits to be marked out and built, so still lots to do and winter weather on its way !! Good luck to the people behind the venture,2 points

It wouldn't be a Scunthorpe thread without Ryan Kinsley getting a mention. He proved last year with Redcar he's not good enough for Championship level move on for God sake.2 points

Absolutely brilliant to be scrolling through the teams and see Oxford in the list2 points

So basically “all is well here, more of the same please!” Except it’s a shocker to get rid of the rising star scheme in the championship. Although I don’t know why I’m surprised, I just don’t get it one little bit. I’ve said it many times but it should also be 6 man teams. Time and time again there is always a rider shortage so limit the number of riders needing to be found in the first place!2 points

You're right and you're wrong in your perception I'm afraid, when a club ceases with debts or is annulled the riders registrations/loan agreements become the responsibility of the BSPL consequently there is a responsibility to find the riders a team if possible. As you can see clubs clamour to cherry pick a failed promotion's riders which makes it unpalatable to those with more integrity so riders get dumped to make way.1 point

Your spot on mate from whaty mate from up north but now lives in the north east & I think Connor only got a bit help from 1 or 2 Aussies !! Why bully the lad whoever has it's just not on & there's no place for it in society1 point

I think a lot will depend upon whether or not he is still classed as a Rising Star. If he is not classed as a Rising Star then I think I prefer Stefan Nielsen.1 point

The only thing he can be described as is a liability! How many meetings did he actually ride in and how many heats did he actually complete? Think he ought to retire, he can't afford any more injuries at his age. Stick to the day job, digging holes for PBHS with his mate Proctor.1 point

I would not envisage either team racing on EVERY Wednesday. I would put money on both derby meetings being on a Wednesday.1 point

Ken McKinlay is often forgotten when one talks about quality riders. He had a career that over many years proved that he was a force both at domestic and world level. One of my first heroes although past his best when he rode for the "Rebels" during my first season (1972)1 point

Are you related to Steve Shovlar by any chance? He used to hijack the old Oxford Speedway Forum with his usual 'banter'. I check out this thread expecting to read news about Oxford and find that it's bombarded by comments regarding Poole?1 point

What ipswich need in their team for nest season is a decent third heat leader,,, I'm pretty sure the other teams will be going that way,,, but we will need it even more if we are blowing a big chunk on Doyle1 point

Some good stats there. Olsen joined Wolves from Newcastle as their number one so was already established. Nielsen was a raw 17 year old when he joined Wolves but hit the ground running...remember seeing him the first time at White City in 1977 and one could tell then that he was going to be a bit special. Ermolenko arrived after a year away from Britain (after a year spent at Poole in 1984 when he sometimes appeared unpredictable falling when unchallenged) on the back of a successful 1985 World Final appearance. He quickly became the undisputed number one at Monmore Green. Difficult comparing eras but by time Ermolenko rode for Wolves the likes of Carter, Sanders, Sigalos, Penhall, Lee (effectively) amongst others had left the scene. Both Nielsen and Olsen rode during the era of Mauger, Collins and in Olsen's case, Michanek and Briggs to name a few.1 point

I can't see Craig Cook returning to the Tigers next year <controversial statement!> and along with Ricky Wells Glasgow will be looking for two new heat leaders. Jensen won't be back, his riding tailed off badly during the last quarter of the season and Ulrich will probably not be the rider he once was after coming back from a serious injury at the age he is now but why is no-one mentioning Marcin Nowak? Is he not interested in a return? The riders i see returning from last season are Nicol, Nowak, Bailey and Brennan. That's it.1 point

Thanks mate - absolutely over the moon. 14 long years. Hard to believe I was 21 when the speedway shut! Now… where’s the best place to find riders averages? Need to get fantasy team building1 point

He had his little measuring wheel out for a walk when I was there and I cant remember if he said 298 or 308 metres long but the straights and corners are what you quote width wise... Don't know about any amateur meetings soon as there is still a great deal to do infrastructure wise but when Andy and Steve get going they really crack on so who knows... be great for Workington as a town that is for sure... It's a sensible move! Clubs struggle on Fridays as it is for guests etc. You only have to look at the prem when all 6 teams are riding and guests are needed1 point

The track record at the beginning of the 1963 season was 72.4 by Jon Erskine on 27th July 1962. This was still the record throughout 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1968.1 point

Yes supporters often get somewhat engrossed with the 'star' riders but it's often the bread and butter riders who made the sport what it was/is. RIP1 point
