He had his little measuring wheel out for a walk when I was there and I cant remember if he said 298 or 308 metres long but the straights and corners are what you quote width wise... Don't know about any amateur meetings soon as there is still a great deal to do infrastructure wise but when Andy and Steve get going they really crack on so who knows... be great for Workington as a town that is for sure... Regards THJ3 points

Steve told me it’s 17 mtr wide corners 12 mtr wide straights just over 420 odd mtrs long a bit like Redcar and belle vue combined and he is hoping to be ready for a few winter armature meeting3 points

Northside starting to take shape... what was it Steve Whitehead used to say #webelieve? Was watching Dan Bewley going round on his dirt track bike 24th October 2021 prior to his first DT meeting at BV and this track and the plans Andy has for it sound and look impressive... Good luck Andy... Regards THJ3 points

Nope! But it sounds as if he’s “making plans for spending Nigel’s” Got a tune in my head now…!2 points

If opening a new track need couple big names to entice people back who've maybe found other things to do with their time since last had speedway. Similar to crump and bjarne at Plymouth last season and Nichols himself at Kent2 points

You can still quite clearly see the outline of the track and the terracing on the ground. I took some photos of it a few years ago.2 points

This is where Ellesmere Port stadium would have been if it had been built at the time the map was published. You can see Thornton Road. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=17&lat=53.27220&lon=-2.88282&layers=193&b=12 points

Sure I have seen that he has signed Daugavpils. So he would be allowed to ride in two other league's. UK Poland Sweden2 points

It isn’t, read the advert, it’s the East of England Agricultural Society selling THEIR equipment.2 points

I’ve heard he’s going the other way in East Anglia. Sure one of us will be right2 points

I had the same experience as you. When my son took an interest in riding we contacted our local track (Poole) to enquire how he could get started and where he could receive training and they couldn't offer any advice except that they thought Reading had training sessions (at the time) but you would need all your own equipment. That's a big investment to make to find out it's not for you after a couple of outings. I only later found out through a work colleague who did amateur speedway about Sittingbourne (Iwade) where we could hire equipment and get training initially. After that I spent a lot of time driving lots of miles to amateur events or practice days where you just queue up for track time. I was disappointed that a major club couldn't even point us in the right direction. I think if there were more domestic riders who were a major force on the world stage like in the past it would possibly generate more interest.2 points

Just wait till the top coat goes on (former DP shale)… I have been told it will be like a "babies bottom" (direct quote from Steve Lawson) Regards THJ2 points

Depending on the qualification rules maybe NDL but that will be down to Andy as to which way he jumps... but it is positive news for a change... Regards THJ2 points

Now the secret is out was told track based on Redcar with a bit of belle Vue, maybe a bit early for training this winter, would think (only my opinion ) that a training track and open meetings in 2022 then see how speedway as a whole shapes up for league speedway in 2023, good luck to the guy sorting things out, will have to have a walk down this weekend to see progress1 point

Who says the rest of the team wud av to be made up like that. So long as it doesn't go over 42 it can be other combinations to what you have stated. And won't the rising star be less than 4? Dunno. King, Worrall, Ben & Zach Cook I understand are certs for Poole wotever they add up to?1 point

Not sure what you are expecting ? Probably because they , the promoters, aren’t supposed to announce any news from the AGM meetings until there’s been an official press release. As for Riders, most are advised to keep stum until the club issues it’s release.1 point

Yup totally agree, should be 9.5 anyway next season if has everything sorted. Get him some consistent support be a different rider imo1 point

Yes Lew used to run training schools at Weymouth but as you say not at the time my lad started. We did get a couple of practice days in at Weymouth though before it closed down completely but little in the way of tuition. It was just pay your money and queue at the pit gate. Interestingly though, my lads first 500 was a Jawa 898 which had been converted to a laydown by Lew Coffin. The Iwade set up is a great facility and I always wondered why the bigger clubs didn't support it more. I understand that the big clubs don't always have access to their own stadiums except for on race nights but If amateur clubs can hire training tracks to run meetings then why couldn't the bigger clubs hire them to run junior leagues etc with riders on hand for tuition etc? I keep hearing how expensive it is to get into speedway but really it isn't at grassroots level. You don't have to spend a fortune to find out if you're good enough to pursue it seriously.1 point

Although he spent most of his career riding for the enemy down the road Martin achieved consistantly high averages and was one of England's best during that period but very underrated. He gained two Gold Team Medals but who's to say that he could have been a much bigger threat during the 1968 Individual Final when carrying a very healthy career best average at the time? If I recall he missed the practice due to the non-cooperation of his promoter and had only the one bike which he used whilst on duty with "The Falcons"...didn't have the chance to prepare a special one. Afteral fellow Brits Gordon Kennett and Les Collins came within a whisker of becoming champion during their only appearances at that level so it wouldn't have been inconceivable if Martin had achieved the same. A tremendous rider and "Briggo" was often quoted as saying that if Martin could gate he could very well have challenged those on the World stage. Great memories of him riding at Blunsdon and Cowley and I know that Cyril Maidment was very keen on him becoming a "Don" when Martin often deputised for the late Tommy Jansson. That may well have been the impetus for Martin to step up his game but I guess that he felt comfortable at Swindon. A true great!1 point

There are more deals that are complete already then announced to i suggest upto 75% of Championship team spots are already agreed I.E Leicester have all 7 riders signed & within the 42.00 limit . It happens every year & this year is no different . All the league promotors get together & agree a limit . Which is then passed at the AGM . That’s how teams can sign riders before the AGM. Nobody gains an advantage by it because all clubs know what the agreed limit is so it’s up to clubs if they wait until AGM. The only grey area over 2022 is the rising star grading’s. Riders who are to come off , riders to be added on & riders to be moved up & down the ratings . I am informed SCB are issuing this to clubs by the weekend.1 point

Not at all I'm sure a Glasgow fan would be only too happy to purchase a scarf on your behalf and post it to you, obviously with an administrative/finders fee + p&p1 point

BIRMINGHAM supporters will have the opportunity to meet the man leading the bid to save the club next week.Nigel Tolley, a successful businessman based in Kinver, will be appearing on stage with current team boss Laurence Rogers at the Aston Manor Cricket Club on Tuesday, November 16 (7pm) to bring supporters an update on the future of the Brummies.Tolley, who is heading a consortium to keep the Perry Barr outfit on track in 2022 and beyond, will speak openly about all current situations and is also inviting questions from supporters in attendance.Club chief Rogers is urging loyal fans to turn out in good numbers and hear the latest on the future of the club first hand."There are problems we have been faced with - but we're not just going to give in like that," he said."We will give everything we've got to make sure the Brummies do survive and race on in 2022."No sale has been agreed as of yet and Nigel and the consortium are working tirelessly behind the scenes to try and secure extra funding etc to ensure everything is viable."Tuesday night is a great opportunity for supporters to hear first hand where we're currently at, the problems we are facing, how we plan to overcome those and where we want to try and ultimately get the Brummies too."There will be no admission fee for the event, however supporters are encouraged to make a donation to the Birmingham Speedway Supporters Club on the night itself. Peterborough Panthers Speedway Supporters Club have been running what we call a 100 club for years, members pay £10 a month and 50% of money collected each month is paid out to 3 lucky members. Its been running for many years and provides the owners with cash for a variety of articles from air bags, fence panels, track equipment, shale etc or just funds to pay the maintenance bills and running costs associated with a speedway club. Keith Chapman is the latest owner to benefit and has remarked on it several times, this is in addition to the 50/50 raffle at every home meeting.1 point

You think a a mug and some reduced stock they couldn't shift in 2020 is 'getting it right'? With it being nearly Christmas and them being crowned World Champions I was looking for some present ideas but sadly not. They are seriously missing a trick here.1 point

Combined with a definite 42 point limit held for at least 3 years, as you say crazy concept and probably too radical for the powers that be to implement.1 point

"IF" Ruml is a Plymouth asset then it would be a no brainer to have him back. Lot's of pros & cons with Ben Barker & Adam Roynon - the biggest con would be they are both injury prone!1 point

It's a cheaper team than last year. It's also a better team than last year. Winner winner chicken dinner for Mark Phillips so well done1 point

I visited Meadowbank a few years back to view the Peter Craven plaque thinking that the speedway track was on the site of the athletics track but judging by the the map overlay its location was to the side of that.1 point

It be ok @teaboy279 we are in the same position at Arlington but have a little bit of hope with open Meetings in 2022 by the new committee being formed and looking to return to league racing in 2023. Was a shock to us when our season was pulled in August but not as big a shock realising our Director now wants to be known as Carol and wanted to rob all us fans. I was looking forward to some Tuesday nights up at Central Park in 2022 and still believe something will still happen there. I heard from a mate yesterday AGM is now been put back 3 weeks. Maybe thats to allow more time for clubs like Kent to come to tapes in 2022.1 point

Don't think that's the speedway rider,,, otherwise he would know how to spell his name correctly1 point

also there is the doubt whether they will get paid for their efforts ? be interesting to see how the crowds are next season their ?1 point

To give them maybe more of a balance on away tracks? Tracks like Lakeside, Rye House and Eastbourne often seemed to overkill the home small track specialists to the detriment of their away results.. One thing for sure with MPT is that you will get 100%, so any gap, however tiny, will have his bike aimed at it, which will be fun to watch on a tight circuit..1 point

But everything's already decided and agreed. Just need to decide what they're having for lunch now.1 point

That's just change for change sake, leave it as it is it's not an issue.1 point

From what I've been told ARC the have set rent for all 3 tracks at a big rent increase, baybe that's the reason for Kent pulling out.1 point

The U24 league idea is an absolute belter and will be a great addition to the main league The play off idea is an absolute shocker and must have been given to them by Rob Godfrey or something. A team can finish 6th in a 8 team league, lose their first round of play off matches and still win the league! I don’t begrudge the top 6 qualifying but surely it has to be 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 with the winners then advancing to meet the 1st and 2nd placed teams. After the roaring success of the play offs this year it seems mad to change the system so drastically.1 point
