  1. Overall quality in the Championship is lower than the Premiership, but they’re not miles apart. I hope Poole stay. I certainly wouldn’t be keen on Glasgow going up. It’s nice having more teams to face off against. On Glasgow, a lot of people get fixated on the amount of money the Facennas have spent to “buy the trophy”. I’m sure they would dearly love to win it - why wouldn’t they? - it they aren’t spending money just to win it. They want to invest in the area. They want to expand attract new supporters. And they want a stadium/racetrack that can host meetings outside of the domestic league and individual championships - as having two Test matches and the Speedway GP qualifiers shows. I’m sure that’s a more complex mix of wanting to do a great job, forge a reputation for high standards, wanting to achieve success and have the satisfaction of having a local speedway team to watch. All good things.

  2. the championship is a far , far better league than the premier . hope both teams stay put for 2022 . well done Poole and well done Glasgow for putting on a superb finale .

  3. We noticed the hatred against Poole and Poole fans when you were in premiership, but I have been to Poole for both Glasgow matches this season and found the fans to be lovely. Since the Facenna's took over Glasgow, we have became equally hated in the championship and get a lot of abuse from rival fans. Poole has been a welcome addition to the championship and as a lot of your fans are realising, the championship is the best league, see you next season

  6. Douglas has signed for a Polish team, so he may, or may not fancy the overnight dash to Poland to ride on Sunday afternoon. Talk of Nick Morris doing likewise also

  7. Wishing you all the best. I was a regular at Perry Barr in the late 70s, along with Cradley and Wolves. I know how much speedway needs a beating Midlands heart. The Brummies are too important to lose again. It's amazing how quickly these situations change though ;-)

  8. Good to hear! A lot of love between Poole and Glasgow fans that attended last night. On twitter a few who work within the club saying how you are a credit to your club and how easy the Glasgow management are to deal with! A new experience, as in the Premiership everyone definitely hated us and would not attend our track very often!

  10. What I was referring to was when we were on tour in the late 80s early 90s people like Boyce, Crumpie, and the rest stayed in the same hotels and we were one. Lingos and Ali Stevens knew y son by name. Different times but great to have had them.

  11. Lions team news next week (to be drip fed over several weeks no doubt). Reading between the lines, I would imagine that Howard will be retained as he was Dickson’s rider of the season. Whatever the points limit is to be for team building, I can see 2 of the top 4 not returning. Someone on here will know a lot more and no doubt inform us!

  12. Although I actually agree with you the problem as I see it is how can a rider earn a decent living with so few meetings only riding for one team. In the past it was great when a rider was only yours and they knew you and you knew them. Riders were part time and still had other jobs. Sorry but I think those days are past, unfortunately.

  14. I think its success envy mostly, if Poole stay in the championship again next year and do the double again that may well creep in again maybe? When my team Eastbourne we're in the Elite league with Poole, we never hated each other (well I didn't ) but it was so good to beat them at Arlington which we did more often than not even in your title winning seasons, different story at Poole obviously, but long for the day's of Nicki Pedersen winding up the crowd and being wound up by the Poole fans.Shame we didn't see what would have happened in meetings this season, but the last heat decider early on was pretty good.

  15. 100% correct but sadly it seems it is only now realised that they are a training ground and a 'rest home'.... It was obvious to a great many several years ago though how it was going, and instead of accepting it and building their own plan around it, the UK still tried to pretend it was relevant on a world stage and changed fixture lists to suit riders, and paid out more than was coming in to afford them, and neglected to follow any clear development pathway for riders to improve... The current situation of 'not enough riders' and therefore zero credibility for the sport, and therefore zero major sponsorship, didn't happen overnight, but was a clear 'end game' for a good many years if they carried on doing the same thing ad infinitum... Dan owes the UK nothing, especially given it was his then Polish team who paid for his treatment from his major injury.... Let's hope it all works out for him... The heavily invested in U24 League in Poland will also help develop a few of our lads too I would think...

  16. It would mean everything to you if we had lost but we won against a very good Glasgow team that were, unlike you, very gracious.

  17. Now here's radical... Maybe bring back teams like Cov, Reading, Cradley etc etc but run them at the current tracks (however many are left).. With the riders used all being ones riding for teams already in that league (a bit like guesting and DU'ing but all at the same time).. And.. This is the best bit to make it credible.. We swap the first letters of the surname and christian names of the riders to make a completely different rider to represent one of the new teams, thus increasing the much needed rider numbers overnight... For example.. You could advertise... "The Irish No1, Mick Norris"... Or Hollands leading rider "Edam Allis"... Or maybe? "China's National Speedway Champion" could be a moniker given to "Lichard Rawson"... I agree Ben Barker and Craig Cook might be difficult to sort but as the saying goes... "No ideas a bad idea".....

  18. Sad thing is there is plenty of opportunity for young riders to practice and train just a lack of people wanting to do it

  19. Thse few seasons under Russell Lanning were immensely enjoyable. A proper promotion in the true sense of the word and a real sense of a meeting being properly presented. Dave Lanning was excellent.

  21. Your right about a lack of an apparent plan for the future but your point on fan representation on the ‘ board ‘ is one that will not be welcomed by the people in control. Why would individuals who own their own clubs and therefore fund it, with all its is current stress and financial loses, want a fans rep saying “ your doing it wrong “ ?. Your ( our ) voices are heard, every home match if you actually speak to the promoter before or after a meeting. Happens every week at Redcar , usually over a pint after the meeting, but you have to take into account that the promoters voice is one of many at AGM’s and the like so whatever point you put across has to be agreed by ‘ the board ‘ and even if your club promoter agrees with you, it might not get accepted higher up, which is possibly why there’s been a recent trend of new promoters not lasting long in the sport and giving up bashing their heads against the wall.

  22. British speedway and it's clubs are in such precarious positions that it's impossible to have long term plans, promoters have to plan season to season? Of course they'd all love to have long term, big TV deals, long term, big money sponsorship deals etc etc but they don't exist for them?

  23. All the equipment sold belongs to the outgoing SHOWGROUND owners, all the speedway tractors and track equipment is in the speedway compound or at Lynn under the control of Buster Chapman. The new Showground owners declined to buy the existing equipment so it’s been sold. It doesn’t affect the speedway at all.

  25. Speedway is a strange old game,,,, I wouldn't want Batch anywhere near my team,,, but, he is probably one of only a very few riders that could have average improvement in him,,, and that's how you win.

  28. TEAM NEWS The Redcar Agilia Bears promotion have announced the purchase and 2022 signature of captain Charles Wright and youngster Jordan Jenkins at last night's End of Season Party Wright has been a key figure in the Bears team the past few seasons, which urged the promotion to approach his previous owners, Poole, to enquire about making him a full asset of the club. Jenkins joins Wright as a club asset after his purchase from Kent. Both riders were unveiled to a packed crowd as a positive start to the 2022 team building plans. Full reaction to follow...

  29. It's really not though is it, better because more teams but the riders are virtually the same and I'd be surprised if the Champ final was as good as the Prem one which was superb. There are too many people like you unfortunately who like one league and slag off the others when we need them all to be strong for speedway speedway to thrive, and the top league really needs a couple more teams.

  30. With the success this season and I assume with the playoffs crowds added in, pretty good crowds, a no brainer really, only downer would be if they hammer the points limit again I suppose.

  32. It depends what they finally decide at the AGM re. Rising Stars and points limits?! I know what has been discussed but there is still the issue of how many teams will be running - and in which league?! I think there could be a new young Aussie (although 2022 may be too soon?) to go with the Cook Brothers. Following the article in Speedway Star I can't see Basso being allowed back as Denmark are planning a full Danish league fixture list in 2022 rather than the shortened version this season. Despite how much Basso has been a revelation and has clearly enjoyed himself over here, he won't want or be allowed to p!$$ off his Danish Federation. Poole's finishing team average totals around 41.60 (thats excluding Danyon Hume) so even with the 2.5% discount for British riders to be taken into account there will need to be some changes!

  36. Again, as clear as day... Hardly anyone cares who wins any Speedway title in the UK due to the ludicrous way it can be attained.. Yet promoters will try and out do each other in all sorts of ways in a desperate bid to win one... Rather than focusing on how to make their competitions credible and actually worth winning in the eyes of the many who no longer go but still follow the sport closely,... And also focusing on how to ensure all have a decent crack at winning one of those titles... Say 18 teams come to the table next season... It would be far better for the sport to have all 18 running in front 500 punters extra each meeting, due to racing on the best night for each track to get their best crowd in, and the entertainment and closeness of the racing on view, as that would grow the sport by 9000 punters each week... No matter which individual clubs win either title they could never hope to grow their crowds by 9,000 on any week, and it would be very doubtful if they could grow their crowds by 9,000 over the whole year....

  38. At Harringay on 23rd May 1936: Parker Brothers 12 Milne Brothers 14 Heat 1: Jack Milne (3 points) bt Jack Parker (2 points) 76.0 (Parkers 2 Milnes 3) Heat 2: Norman Parker (3) bt Cordy Milne (2) 76.6 (Parkers 5 Milnes 5) Heat 3: Jack Milne (3) bt Norman Parker (2) 76.2 (Parkers 7 Milnes 8) Heat 4: Cordy Milne (3) bt Jack Parker (2) 82.8 (Parkers 9 Milnes 11) Heat 5: Cordy Milne, (3) Norman Parker (2), Jack Parker (1), Jack Milne (0) 75.4 (Parkers 12 Milnes 14) The only way that the score could alternatively have been 14-11 was for Jack Parker and Jack Milne to have failed to score in the final heat.

  43. Well if 3 or 4 clubs don't run next year then I'd say so. One thing that has, IMO, killed speedway was averages below 45pts. Each team has 45 available in a match so that is what teams should be built to. Fans are being cheated when they are given a team with less than that.
